Spicy House
6811 Mission St, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
Ever since Little Hunan on Mission/Crocker went out of business, Ive been looking for a new place to get HK style crispy noodles. Spicy House is decent. They have a good menu of Chinese dishes. This is the first time Ive seen tempura $9 at a Chinese restaurant. The tempura was the prefabricated type and came with sweet and sour sauce. It would have been better if it came with tentsuyu sauce. As for the house special HK style crispy noodles $12, there are better places for this. This came with a confusing mixture of meats (beef, chicken and shrimp) and vegetables (bok choy, broccoli, carrots, minced garlic, zucchini.) What it needed was some sesame oil in the sauce, Chinese BBQ pork, mini scallops or squid. The noodles should have been slightly browned to bring out the wok flavor. Regardless, service was excellent. The waitresses are friendly. This used to be Egg Roll King years ago. The lady cashier was always cool to me. My orders would be three egg rolls and their three dishes w/soup for $21.
Noodle Station
6055 Mission St, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
This place confuses me a little bit because their presentation is always 10 stars- their dishes, their broths, their outward textures always look and seem solidly amazing. Always. I dont think Ive seen a questionable or bad photo from this place out there! Thats pretty incredible. However, the taste of their noodles and soups just seem lacking or somehow just dont quite hit-the-mark. My laksa house special curry dish for example, was made with a thin rice vermicelli noodle that doesnt absorb sauce/flavor at all, so my experience of this dish involved alternating drinking broth, eating toppings, and consuming dry noodles, none of which can really be considered that appealing when separate from each other. The flavor of the broth was intriguing, with lemongrass and other rich flavors which were interesting but not something Id personally crave.I enjoyed my husbands roast duck with dried egg noodles in XO sauce more, but we both agreed that the specific sauce mix was a bit salty and the flavor of this dish was generally off from our personal preferences. All that said, the price and portion sizes were good, the dishes looked good, and I cant dismiss the possibility that these possibly taste perfect to someone perhaps of a Laotian or other background with a different flavor profile than we have... then again, it could just all come down to one guy experimenting with flavors in the back kitchen, who doesnt have it quite down yet... In any case, their flavors just werent for us, unfortunately, and we wont be coming back.

Bart Grocery
108 Los Olivos Ave, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
Ive been wanting to come here for a long time, read all the great reviews. Either nobody that comes here knows good Korean BBQ or I came on a bad day. First of all, you can not order the meat only ala carte, you have to order the lunch plate which comes with rice & japchae. I ordered the spicy pork, beef and chicken. There was more onions than meat. There was absolutely no taste. I asked for some hot sauce and she hands me packaged Chinese Sriracha sauce while I politely gave back to her. I asked for the Korean hot sauce and was charge $.50 each for a little tiny container. I brought the food home and my sons thought it was so bad that they didnt finish their plate. The hot sauce they gave me was more sour than hot, Ive never had any quite like it.
Wongs Cafe
1111 Hillside Blvd, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
Service: 5/5I did not dine in so I cant speak about that. However, when I called to place an order, the gentleman asked me if I knew where they were located. I thought it was an odd question until I realized he mustve seen my area code and wanted to make sure I had called the right place. I thought it was funny and kind of him. Next, talk about speed. They had my order ready in exactly 20 minutes. Maybe even sooner. They also packed my food well. They couldve crammed everything into one bag but they didnt. They split my order between two bags instead so I could carry it out easily.Food: 4/5The food was pretty good. I ordered the Beef Chow Fun, Salt & Pepper Pork rice plate, and Hot & Sour Soup. The chow fun had nice wok hei flavor and I liked the bean sprout to noodle ratio. Some might not like all the bean sprouts but I like my veggies and it gives the dish some texture. The pork rice plate was good but a little salty for me. The soup was good but different. Its not the traditional hot and sour soup. Theres tomatoes and carrots in it but it tastes good still. And there is properly sour and spicy! Sometimes restaurants give you a watered down version. Not this restaurant! And to top it all off, the price is good at this place too. All their rice plates are a steal deal. If youre a hungry college student, a full plate of rice and lots of meat will cost about $10. Not bad in my opinion.Parking: 2/5This is the only bad part. Parking is terrible in this area. Especially at night. If youre just picking up, you can park right in front for a few minutes. But if you plan to dine in, be prepared to circle the blocks a few or 10 times. Also, for anyone not local, if you plan to pull into someones driveway to turn around, be careful and pull in veeerry slow. The drive ways arent great here and there are a lot of hills. You may scrap your front bumper and your cars underside if you go too fast.Overall, definitely recomend! Affordable and good food!
Tselogs
6860 Mission St, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
Pleasantly surprised. Ive heard of Tselogs before, but never had the chance to go until today. We initially drove to Gateway Kitchen (Google said they were open. Got there and saw they had a sign saying theyre closed for the day), then we drove to Superstar (Same as Gateway, closed for the day). Was there something going on in the Filipino community? I had no idea. But we didnt give up. We considered Turo, but since Ive never tried Tselogs, we went there instead. Parking was a bit difficult to find. We found a spot on a side street. We entered the restaurant and waited to be seated. There were 7 or 8 tables, half of which were occupied. The lone server was busy with another group of customers. After awkwardly standing by the entrance for a couple of minutes, we were told that we were welcome to pick our own table and take our seats. We were given menus and were told to order and pay at the counter. We ordered Tocilog, sisig fries, lechon kare kare, and a slice of buko pie and waited about 15 to 20 minutes before food was served. The server and the cooks sounded Filipino, so I wasnt surprised that the food tasted delicious. What started out as a budget breakfast ended up being a proper brunch (complete with a price to match). We spent about $60 before tax and tip, but we did take quite a bit of it home. Also have to mention their interiors. Love the bar and the filipino touches. The restroom was clean, too. Didnt see a cocktail menu, so I do want to come back to see what they offer. Check them out!
Kukje Supermarket
2350 Junipero Serra Blvd, Daly City, CA 94015, United States
Update:There is now a new competitor named K-Mart which is quite nearby offering better prices in geneal for the same or similar offerings (its a Korean market, I am primarily interested in things which come from Korea). I recommend shoppers to compare their offerings since they are so close to one another (unless you are walking). Most importantly, quality of service has gone extremely downhill at Kukje Supermarket, so I am inclined to go elsewhere when possible.End of Update:Technically not in San Francisco, since it is in Daly City, but as it is easily accessible by public transit from San Francisco, I have decided to include it.While there are other Korean markets in the City (for example, there are a few by Japantown. No, there is no a Koreantown, to my knowledge.), this is one of bigger Korean markets that is reasonably accessible even to those without a car. It offers a large selection of goods, both from Korea and not from Korea. While prices are not always the best (both Korean and Japanese markets, as well as restaurants, are known for providing goods and services from their respective country, not for value), if you browse their weekly ad, sometimes you will find good deals. For example, one time I bought a packet of King Oyster mushroom (300G) for 99 cents, and not only was it organic, it even came from Korea! One of the better places to buy seafood, and the quality has been consistently good (although since not everyone there speaks English well, your questions may not get answered, unfortunately), and, again, some of their sale prices on their seafood are quite competitive.Personally I think the best prices are found in Chinese supermarkets, especially those in Chinatown, but Chinatown can be difficult to park. If you travel by public transit, either option will be great: Chinatown tends to offer better prices but stores tend to be smaller (although their selection isnt necessarily smaller), and Kukje tends to offer some of the same selection at higher prices, but the store is bigger, and, in my opinion, appears to be cleaner.
Banana Island
273 Lake Merced Blvd, Daly City, CA 94015, United States
This place feigns importance nor does not respect a customers allergies! A lot of room for opportunity for their customer service and follow-up.We ordered the salted cabbage and bean curd soup (Did not specify it had shrimp on the menu, and I am moderately allergic to shrimp). When the soup came out, we politely asked our server (bald headed guy) if they could change the soup since I mentioned I was allergic to shrimp. The new bowl of soup came back suspiciously quick, and to my fear when I was halfway thru my cup there was a little shrimp piece- seems like they just scooped out the shrimp from the previous bowl!I work in hospitality, and I RARELY complain if I find customer service in a place I visit low-tier. Of course when our server stopped-by I let him know of the situation and apologized, however no follow-up from him after, did not even ask how I was doing if I am having allergic reactions (or dying!).My friends noticed he spoke to a lady in a suit and another server in glasses, because all three of them were looking at our table, and we thought there would be a follow-up from them, but nope! Did not even comp anything and charged us the full check.I only had mild allergic reactions, itching and mild swelling of my lips—— BUT, What if someone else is SEVERELY ALLERGIC to shrimp? Do better Banana Island management!!
Simple One Cafe
2025 Gellert Blvd #202, Daly City, CA 94015, United States
Its been a while since I was last here, but my has their menu grown since they first opened. The place still looks the same, but the difference is that you place the order at the register now instead of them taking your order. It wasnt super busy, but the person who works there didnt seem too happy to help me either.I went here because I was craving the fried buns with condensed milk, and it was just like I remembered. Crispy on the outside with a balanced fluffy and doughiness on the inside.Peanut butter toast with condensed milk did not taste the same. It had a hint of coconut taste to it that I wasnt a fan of and lacked a creaminess to it.Waffles (hk style)- i got it because I was curious. I mean, you really cant go wrong with waffles. I was wrong. This had the same filling as my toast, and the filling was mainly on one side. They made it into a sandwich, which left me with wanting something more, and this fell short.French fries - surprisingly tasty and crunchy.Popcorn chicken - crunchy, flavorful, and moist on the insideMango matcha latte - This was good, but I was expecting like fresh mango chunks or something. Instead, it was a puree smeared around the cup. I was also a little disappointed they dont have the cups anymore that have their logo on it.
