Gingers Restaurant
2201 Pillsbury Rd #100, Chico, CA 95926, United States
Was surprised to find this spot. Having moved to Magalia from the Bay Area, I have had xlnt Chineese food. 4 of us ordered from the lunch menu. First off, portions were way huge for a very reasonably priced lunch menu! We all had more than enough to take home for dinner. The Hot and Sour soup was xlnt (I could eat just that and be happy). I had the garlic chicken lunch. The chicken was not crispy fried as I expected, but chunks of white meat in a bed of mushrooms and vegtables. They were not skimpy on this entree. XLNT! So was the fried rice. No hard kernels at all. My friend had the Sesame Chicken lunch. Crispy, sweet and VERY tasty. Another friend had the General Xous Chicken, and it was very very good. Crispy and tasty. The servise....great. We were left to enjoy the meal, and our waitress checked on us at 5 minute intervals. When we were ready to leave, the cook and the staff asked us how the meal was, and politely asked us to please come back again. So many restaurants are just happy to let you go without feedback. I will return.

Rice Bowl
2804 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95973, United States
We had the Walnut Chicken, cream cheese wontons and fried rice. The chicken was very tasty but honestly very greasy. The fried rice was not good, I was hoping it was all a fluke. But the clincher was how little sauce they gave us on the Walnut chicken, they barely give you any sauce. We were hoping it was just a fluke and an off night. Then we ordered take out a few days later and got home to discover that there was barely enough sauce to even lightly coat some of the chicken. Not cool! So I called Rice Bowl and was argued with by the person answering the phone saying that there was no way we could have received it like that, with barely any sauce. This person (guy) even went to talk to the kitchen manager and came back and confirmed that we were wrong. He said theres no way that could have happened. Hmmm-interesting. Then he says it must have evaporated in the box since it was so hot when they put it in. Were very sad to say we wont be eating there again and will find another Chinese restaurant. We just moved here from out of state 2 weeks ago and had already eaten there twice. Sorry guys - can anyone recommend a clean and good Chinese/Asian restaurant in Chico? We found a great one in Willits.

Kwando Buffet
740 Mangrove Ave, Chico, CA 95926, United States
Kwandos...the last bastion of hope left in Chico for an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet!! Arrived at 1155am, and planned to maximize my time. I plated my ingredients for the hibachi, handed it over to the cook, then went for the sushi. Grabbed 8 different pieces of rolls (want something they dont have, they will MAKE it custom for you), then went to the lines...which were full and empty of people. I grabbed: Jalepeno chicken, Orange chicken, Coconut shrimp, General Tzaos chicken, Buttery Seafood medley, and simple stir-fry. By the time I headed to my seat, the hibachi was done, consisting of: Lemon grass chicken, pot stickers, ginger, garlic, pineapple, Crab, red onion, broccoli, and 3 flank steaks. I stayed for 1 hour, even enjoying a simple bowl of ice cream for dessert. The flavors were magnificent, the food was piping hot and plentiful, and I hadnt touched upon 65% of what was available (NO soups, salads, or fruits.) I left extremely satisfied and full. The last picture is the total I paid...LESS than $17 total. Extremely clean food bars, soups bars, and dessert bar. Im saving the last star for when they have better deserts, as most were a little dry. WAY BETTER than Hulas Chinese BBQ, cheaper too!! Get here on Friday for the Crab Legs & Frog legs, and shrimp for the hibachi at the dinner buffet. Update... as of 6/9/22, I went back on a Thursday night to find they added a few pans of Louisiana Creole dishes, and for that I awarded the last star for this establishment. Creole, potatoes, corn, crawfish, etc... spices were spot-on and delicious. The perfect addition to an already near-flawless restaurant.

House of Dumplings
1000 W Sacramento Ave Suite G-1, Chico, CA 95926, United States
Edit: responding to the business owner because I cant respond to your response. Ive had this dish many times at other restaurants. Its a delicious dish with a unique flavor. In my opinion your oil was rancid. Maybe you missed the part where I said the spring rolls were also cooked in rancid oil. stating my opinion is not libel. You have many other 1 star reviews. You could have offered to make this right, but instead you threatened me. Self awareness is so important. Maybe rather than threatening your MANY 1star reviewers you should take the criticism and improve your customer service and food. Thank you for proving the point that I shouldnt have sought a refund.Honestly I try not to leave bad reviews, but I dont want anybody else to make my mistake. Im so very disappointed that I had to waste an entire meal. Everything was cooked in old, rancid oil. I could smell how foul the oil was before I even opened the containers. The spring rolls were quite burned and I still wouldve powered through them. However, they also smelled/tasted of rancid oil and were not edible. Im pretty picky, so I wanted a second opinion and I asked my eat-everything boyfriend (with an iron stomach) to taste it and verify that I wasnt overreacting. He was baffled by how bad all of it was. Thirty bucks straight in the trash. Then the oil made the trash smell so bad that we had to take out the trash. After reading the reviews left by others I will not be seeking a refund because I can tolerate the loss more than I could tolerate being harassed by a bad business owner.

Panda Express
2443 Cohasset Rd, Chico, CA 95926, United States
The food here isn’t too bad for a chain Chinese restaurant. But dang, the portions are never consistent except for the lack of beef in the broccoli beef.I’ve been ordering the 3 entree plate the last two visits and I typically go with the 2 until I started getting these tiny portions. I uploaded a photo and hope it ties to my review because I got 3-5 tiny pieces of beef with a TON of broccoli in my order. The orange chicken is the only reason I came back one more time after this experience and it HAPPENED AGAIN.I feel like if you’re lucky and they have fresh food made you’ll get a decent serving. But if they are at the tail end of what they have available, they’ll just give you what they have and call it good. Unfortunately, Chico doesn’t have good Chinese food in my opinion. Other restaurants like Happy Garden (probably the best but not great), Tong Fong Low, and Egg Roll King acceptable at best. It’s one of the only things I miss about living in the Bay Area, good Chinese food!

Windys Chinese Restaurant
1000 W Sacramento Ave ste g, Chico, CA 95926, United States
First time getting Windys, we wanted to try a big order to try it out. Not sure if we just lost the luck draw or if someone was having a bad day (or if they just hate doordash). No idea what the service or atmosphere is like.Driver was sitting there 20 minutes before they even would let him pick up (he delivered fine though when he could, Windys stuck gyoza sauce on top of everything in a little container for some reason so it spilled but Im not counting that)Bun and dumpling dough tasted weird and overdone, but it could have been just travel time.Buns didnt have a lot of filling, but maybe its a style? Not sure Id ever want to eat them again now. From anywhere.I didnt see anything on the house chowmein that said it could have shrimp in it. (Checked both doordash and windys website) It wasnt bad and the noodles were great. Nice thick noodles. Just uncomfortable that someone with a seafood allergy might be playing surprise-youre-dead roulette there.House cheese wontons mention theyre sweet on the website but were more like a desert than an appetizer. Fried like heck but rubbery - was probably delivery time so not factoring that.Couldnt tell the difference in taste between the generals and the orange chicken besides that one had wet broccoli fresh from the steamer in it. Both tasted like decent chicken bits egg-battered in a tempura(?) that tastes a like what if the McDonalds chicken nugget factory forgot the salt. Only thing I could imagine there was that they just didnt sauce them.

Hulas Chinese Bar-B-Q
1937 E 20th St, Chico, CA 95928, United States
Very good service and the food is still just as tasty as always. This last visit was disappointing but thats because of luck. We ended up getting a very well used grill so the flavors of the last 30 people were added to our dishes. Its fine. I expect that, and it was pure luck that we werent a little slower. The other grill was being cleaned as we brought our bowls up. Just have to take the cards as theyre dealt! Now normally I start with the negatives, so Ill put what I didnt love here first and get it out of the way.Today was a fairly warm day and the AC in Hulas was just not cutting it for me. At were seated away from the ceiling fans, which didnt help.Next, they were out of Modelo. A real shame and I ended up just getting Coors Light, for $5.50 a pint. This would be understandable, but this was a Friday, the first day of their work week. For lunch service no less. Somebody needs a taking to in management. Either than or the supplier needs a serious taking to.Next, the price. Hulas has never been the cheap option but between the 5x+ upcharge for the beer and the high price of single-bowl lunch, we ended up paying $50 for lunch. Not an everyday mask for sure. I understand that California has ruined the cost of eating out but thats still a factor. The chicken bok choy soup had a strange, chemical taste to it and was very peppery, so my mom, who has chronic dry mouth, want able to eat it and I just didnt love the taste, nor the disturbing lack of, well, chickenFinally, its been over 5 years since I read last in, and I get that Covid regulations ruined just about everyone who did self serve but the removal of lamb from the protein choices kinda sucks.Last complaint: the fortune cookies were unwrapped and pretty stale, but who cares about the cookie?Okay thats a lot of negativity but usually its still hulas and its still tasty. There were absolutely some improvements and they didnt get down on using two bowls. Ill explain that for the uninitiated soon. The general feel of the place has survived Covid well. They always had a good sneeze shield over the ingredients, but they have improved multiple parts of the assembly. First, cheaper bowls that arent going to shatter if they get dropped. Second, TRAYS! Theyre just the right size for your bowl and the squisher bowl.Second: they added a nice hole-filled plate around the sauces. This is more a quality of life issue for the workers but its nice they added it.Now for you newbies, this is the part you want to read. You go in, get seated, order your drinks, and then the fun begins. Youll grab two bowls and a tray. Load up as much meat as you want, and dont be stingy. Now, take your second bowl and squish your meat slices down and add more! Then, and only then, should you pile on the delicious Shanghai noodles that come next. After that, add the veggies you want. Keto on mind theyre all getting cooked together at some night be under done and some over. This is the trade off. Finally you come to the sauces. You might think thats enough teriyaki. Youre wrong. Add some more. Thats still not enough. Add more. Put chili oil in. Its not that hot. Dunk to the bottom of the garlic sauce and put some minced garlic on. Be brave you should see the sauces peeking over your ingredients. They will be cooked off.Everything still tastes exactly as awesome as before the pandemic. Tip your cooks. Tip your waitstaff. They work hard, and despite the fact that California is unique in requiring waitstaff to be paid state minimum wage, its still expected and you will want to come back.Overall, if youre unfamiliar, its basically like stir-fry that you design yourself. Definitely worth trying but be warned: its addictive.

Egg Roll King
659 Palmetto Ave, Chico, CA 95926, United States
I have been eating here with my parents since the 1980s and it is to this day one of my all time favorite chinese restaurants. I always said that if they served their food on fancy platters, it would be just as good as, or better than, any of the most fancy and expensive chinese restaurants anywhere. The chefs are very talented cooks who put great care into every aspect of their cooking. It is a family owned restaurant who are respected, hard working, and successful members of our community who deserve to be such. They have kept the prices of their drinks the same since the 90s and their food is very affordable as well. Equally enjoyed by families and college students alike. Highly recommended!

Chan Phengs Mandarin Cuisine
1140 Mangrove Ave STE E, Chico, CA 95926, United States
First Chinese restaurant in Chico. Sarah, our server, was smart and congenial. Place was almost empty at around 7 PM. The celebrations of 5 de Mayo, perhaps? Restaurant was clean overall, so we proceeded to get a Family Special for two, to the tune of $17.50 each. Consisted of the following: 2 egg rolls, 2 foil wrapped chicken, and those big fried thin bread? Won ton soup for two, Almond chicken. Mongolian beef, White rice for 2, and apart a Combination Fried Rice.Egg rolls were average at best, 3 Stars. Wrapped chicken no finesse in the execution, 2.5 Stars. Those fried whatever 1 Stars. Won ton soup chicken tasting broth, served lukewarm which really is bad practice, most know soup and hot temperature go together, but if the chef doesn’t know that, then who does in their kitchen? 3.5 Stars. Almond chicken easy to enjoy, 3.5 Stars. Mongolian beef, small serving but agreeable, 3.5 Stars. Order of Combination Fried Rice, $13.50, more rice and more beef than the other two, a very famous Chinese philosopher said that when expensive combination fried rice is mostly rice, no bargain but good flavor, 3 Stars. No tea offered, a fine tradition, that in this place was a no show. Service can’t complain, 4 Stars. Water tasted good, 4 Stars. Steamed rice just that.Total $54+. Plus gratuity. Decent folks running this place. 3.5 Stars.
