Five Star Seafood Restaurant
140 W Valley Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Once the name meant something for such a popular location for any Chinese banquet-style restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley, now you can find this place hovering around 3 and maybe 4 stars.Yes, there you have it. My experience has been hit or miss in recent years. Understandably, there are staffing issues and possibly patronage. Management here seems to be inconsistent. The food here is good to excellent. Most popular for Dim Sum and your large Chinese banquets, the menu consists of many popular Cantonese dishes you come to love, and of course, there is a substantial focus on fresh seafood. Seasonally, you can find your King Crabs, Lobsters, and a variety of whole fishes served up to your liking. The most popular is Ginger and Scallions for any lobster or whole steamed fish. What is lacking is the service. Lately, there seems to be a staff that is unaccustomed and possibly temporary. Pricing has also been quite the driver that has alienated much of the patronage, and the cleanliness of the dining room is worse than ever post-pandemic. The flooring, restrooms, and walkways need much attention.I have had over 30 years of stepping in this restaurant location. I know they can do better. Of course, the Focus Mall, as many of us still reference, has been in decline and sadly feels empty. Parking is usually plenty thus this is a good place to meet a large group.
Newport Seafood Restaurant
518 W Las Tunas Dr, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
My family and Is favorite Chinese restaurant. We drive from San Fernando valley all the way to San Gabriel on special occasions cause the bill ends up very expensive all the time. It gets so packed after lunch, theres a valet parking in front of the restaurant but I find parking on the street easy and convenient money-wise, for groups 5 and up the tip is imposed and doesnt reflect the kind of expecting service, its too much for bringing the food you consume and pay. Overall, we went there pretty much for the house special lobster which a couple of weeks ago, we tasted it differently from previous times, less caviars, less flavor, salty and the lobster itself was less meaty.

I had the pleasure of dining at Shenyang Tasty in San Gabriel, CA, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The restaurants inviting atmosphere, attentive staff, and, most importantly, the delicious food made it a memorable visit. Their menu showcases the rich flavors of northeastern Chinese cuisine, and the dishes are expertly prepared.I highly recommend trying their hand-pulled noodles; they are a true delight. The dumplings were also a standout, bursting with flavor. Whether youre a fan of spicy or milder dishes, Shenyang Tasty has something for everyone. The staff was friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. Overall, Shenyang Tasty is a gem in the San Gabriel culinary scene. I cant wait to return and explore more of their delectable offerings. If youre looking for an authentic and delicious taste of Chinese cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit.
Sheng Yuan Restaurant
1000 S San Gabriel Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
First of all, let's talk about dining in. The waiter's service was terrible. She was slow to add water and slow to pay the bill and slow to pick up the lunch box when she was not busy. I felt very tactless. The candied haws eaten in the restaurant are also wet. The sugar has not solidified at all and is just so wet. Your family doesnt ask the guests if they are sure they want to eat this kind of ghost-looking candied haws? Which Chinese person has never eaten candied haws, yet they still have the nerve to blame the hot weather, how shameless! Let's talk about takeout. After ordering the takeout app twice, the sugar has solidified, but each time there is one less bunch of candied haws, and they are all very small. How do you manage to be so inconsistent? Finally, it was self-pickup. The fundamental beauty of the candied haws is solidified. I thought I would freeze it because I was so greedy, but the result was that it did not solidify when I took it out. When I tore the package open, the string dripped all over my pants, and I felt like it with every bite. Now, throw it directly into the trash can. As a Northeastern person, your family is really unrealistic. Just stop selling this kind of thing! Whoever buys it will be in trouble!
Yunnan Restaurant

The food is okay, but the waiters attitude is super bad. Im very curious why the boss didnt fire her. She talks very choked and she doesnt have any quality at first glance. To be honest, at her level, being a waitress is a compliment. She insists on keeping her for the Chinese New Year. Its suitable for washing dishes in the kitchen. Dont offend all your customers and end up closing down! Learn from Haidilao. To be able to do business for a long time, you still have to give customers face!I wonder why the boss doesnt fire her. She is very tough to talk about, and she doesnt have any quality at all. To be honest, even working as a waitress at her level is a great honor. Dont offend all the customers and shut down. To learn from Haidilao, can do business for a long time or to give customers face!
Long Xing Ji Juicy Dumpling
140 W Valley Blvd Ste 211, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Long Xing Ji is probably my favorite Chinese Restaurant in SoCal. Little known and not as flashy as others in its area, it nonetheless offers affordable, delicious, and unique Chinese food with freshly made dim sum and almost never a wait.Discovering Long Xing Ji is its own adventure. Situated on the second floor of San Gabriel Square, with its sign mostly in Chinese, most people wont even see it. But trust me, you want to. The place is nicely decorated and the staff is friendly and speaks English if you need it. The restaurant follows the mark-down style of ordering, where youre given a menu full of check-boxes and a pen to mark down what you want. And what a selection!Long Xing Ji lives up to its Juicy Dumpling moniker with over 5 types of soup-dumpling (Xiao Long Bao/XLB) - from savory and sweet versions of the pork classic, to a massive, fist-sized crab version that comes with a straw. For my part, I just take the classic pork, non-sweet, which never fails to please (and for XLB persons, they dont spill too easily and usually come at just the right temperature). For those new to XLB - the sensation of biting into a dumpling filled with soup and pork creates the juicy sensation of Long Xings namesake, and is something youll never forget. But the selection goes beyond that. Their sesame noodle, topped with peanut and sesame sauce, is a steal at only 6 bucks, and comes in a huge bowl (compare to Din Tai Fung, whos portions are slightly smaller and price at least 3 dollars higher). Their fried rice is light and flavorful. Their green beans come with the most amazing ground beef that has a garlic flavor and a spicy kick. Their beef rolls are savory and crisp (though packed with cilantro if youre the sort to avoid that).I could go on and on - theres really no way to lose at this place. From the experience of finding it, to the delectable food and decor (and did I mention you can actually watch their dumplings getting made through a glass window?) Long Xing Ji is a diamond in the rough - my personal highlight in a neighborhood already boasting the best Chinese food in the region. Next time youre in the area, dont miss your chance to try your own Juicy Dumplings.

This is a Cantonese comfort food place. I remember when we were young, we used to come to have late night food after meeting with friends for a night out. The Chow Fen and congee always hit the spot leaving my stomach felt satisfied. After all these year, this restaurant is still one of my go to restaurants for Cantonese comfort food. Now they added fried fish skin and it goes well with wanton soup.Having been caving for Chinese BBQ pork for a while, we stopped by this place today to pick up a pound to take home. I have to say, the BBQ pork is one of the best in San Gabriel Valley. Even though we didn’t buy other stuffs, we know they have good BBQ ducks and soy sauce chicken as well. During the pandemic, they provide varieties of take out foods that included all their favorite Cantonese dishes such as fried Shrimp, Mandarin Pork, chow fen & mian, Mapo Tofu and many others. Should go pick up a take out to help satisfy your stomach and help out a local business at the same time.
Shanghai No 1 Seafood Village
250 W Valley Blvd M, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Shanghai No. 1 restaurant has been opened about 10 years, and it was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic but reopened this year. I would say it is an authentic Shanghainese cuisine restaurant on Valley Blvd in the heart of San Gabriel Valley. The restaurant decorations are traditional Chinese designs, and there are 5 luxury dining rooms if you like to have a special occasioned party. The foods are excellent and can be expensive depending on your pocket and taste. Currently, cant travel to China but if you want to have real Shanghainese food, this is a 5 stars restaurant.Just revisiting one year after in 2024, same old thing. Not too much the Shanghainese restaurants left over in San Gabriel Valley Chinatown but their food is still the same good quality.
Changan Restaurant
227 W Valley Blvd #348, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Thanks for the DineLA program, we were able to find this great restaurant with some great seafoods such as steamed scallops and steamed oystets at a great price at $3.98 and $2.98, respectively. The uploaded pictures are steamed scallops, steamed oystets, garlic chicken wings, W J tofu, tend cubes, sweet & sour shrimp and shortrib & filet mignon skewers. This is only one or a few Chinese restaurants that calculates the sales tax based on pre-tax amount, plus only asks for a 12% services fee, commonly known as tips. The Chinese restaurant is also very clean, but most people do not know it because it is located on the third floor within the Hilton Hotel, San Gabriel.

Great food, service and setting are just as a typical low end Chinese restaurant
