Rude and racist waitress! if you look Mexican dont go there!..when I got there I ask for the sushi bar and waiter said it was bussy so no problem give me a table, but then she says if you seat at a table the sushi from the bar will take a loong time so I ask her : are you saying that we should leave? She says nooo of course not, so we seat at the table, my wife told me she was being racist and rude, so I said: maybe she meant something else, then I start ordering from the sushi menu and then she said: better order from the kitchen because sushi will take tooooo long Im thinking wth? I really wanted to try toro So I told her that I can drink a beer while I wait. Then I asked her for slice lemon for my mirugai and she said sorry I cant! So I thought, enough of this crap and I told her to cancel my order she then said let me see what I can do, and then she brought my order in a few minutes and with lemon,,,sushi was good that is why I gave one star but very expensive $118 for 2.. we will not be back.. Ive been to Japan and know of traditional sushi.. I didnt leaver her any tip..she didnt deserve it.If you want traditional sushi go to Kens.

The service was extremely attentive providing exactly what I needed before I even asked for it. I ordered a chicken curry ramen and the dragon roll. The ramen was sufficiently spicy and also complex with a lovely texture. My only complaint was that the chicken was fried which personally, for a soup type dish results in it becoming a bit soggy and losing the crispy factor we love in fried chicken. If I were the chef I'd change it to grilled chicken. Still an excellent establishment that I will be returning to.
Oni sushi

Despite decent food this establishment is racist towards not only POC but to anyone who is not Asian. They are in consistent in policies and does not value their customers.RESPONSE:Again. I would like to highlight the inconsistency of your policy. It was not until last week when said policy of DINE-IN has been set in place. Considering there is no advertisement of this policy it seems to me that it is up to who ever is working whether or not to enforce this rule.Utilizing your workers as examples on how your actions as an establishment is not racist in some aspect HIGHLIGHTS the idea that your establishment indeed has a racial bias.Again. As stated above your inconsistent policy and reaction to an opinion that was based of an experience that was created by YOUR place of business is the reasoning behind my post. So that future customers know what to expect when dinning at Oni Sushi. The service given and shown through your response may not be worth the cost of the decent/edible food provided to your future customers and before anymore time is wasted on their part I did them a service by expressing my experience to allow them to make their own decision. There are other overly priced sushi places here in Claremont that will provide an all around experience. However if my review was to personalized here is a semi unbias review of ONI SUSHIFood is decent.Establishment is semi cleanAsk for plastic silverwareOrder to go to avoid an influx of price (price increase will not be given if asked. subjected to be over priced )And to the workers at Oni Sushi, Please do not allow an establishment to use your culture/race/religion etc. to brand themselves as a non racist entity because by this response it seems as if they are the complete opposite.- Thank you

This is a traditional and fusion Japanese restaurant. They even sell ramen and udon to make the menu quite full. I tried the Shirshi bowl. Presentation was a bit odd as they used a casserole bowl but they used large sashimi slices of fish and portion was big. I think most patrons order those fusion rolls as they look creative and poured over with sauces. In general the restaurant is okay for this area. There is a back entrance that faces the movie theatre courtyard.
Takahashi Market
221 S Claremont St, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States
Being born & raised in Hawaii and being away from home, makes you realize the food & atmosphere you truly miss from your roots. Living in the SF Bay Area, I am fortunate enough to have access to places like Takahashi Market. It is humble establishments (been around for a long time - decades!) like this that allow me to visit the ‘Aina within the physical context of my local area.Takahashi Market easily transports you to Hawaii, right when you step foot into their parking space! The space itself is a 1 story building at an intersection in San Mateo (close to downtown and the Verkada, a tech company's office). Because the space is small and we have to be precautious during these times, there usually is a line outside the door to queue patrons to enter the building. Standing in line allows you to build your excitement as you are able to peek into the market and get a sense of what aspects of Hawaii it is able to offer. In the market, there is only a small amount of cashier registers in the front and about 4-5 isles of Hawaii/Asia-inspired goodies to choose from! From perishable foods to hot musubis to Hawaii-based clothing merchandise, it seems like Takahashi Market has it all! I'd say this place is like a Swapmeet (Hawaii dubbed Flea Market) in a 1-story building! Even the prices are right on the dot for most, if not all, items! But you want to be careful that you don't end up buying everything in the market.I will always keep coming back here! I hope one day, the market may be able to expand to a 2nd story or location if possible. I can only see Takahashi Market continuing to maintain and grow its fanbase! And with that, I hope it will mean more resources to expand. If not, I am still fine with this, as the small Hawaii vibes are already excellent as is at the market. Thank you Takahashi Market Ohana for all you do!

Laemmle Claremont 5
450 W 2nd St, Claremont, CA 91711, United States
What a privilege to view the documentary Only In Theaters at this theater. The storytelling is superb. I highly recommend seeing it before it leaves the theaters (Currently playing (Nov 2022) at the Claremont Laemmle theater). If youre not able to see it in the theater, put it on your list to watch when it goes to streaming. The showing that I saw had a Q & A after with the President/CEO of the family-owned Laemmle independent theaters Greg Laemmle and the Director of the film Raphael Sbarge. This 80+ year-old family-run independent theater chain was originally motivated by a desire to bring art/culture, particularly foreign films to the LA county area, which were not accessible to people decades ago other than to fly to another country to view a foreign film. This family led the way for independent cinema. Their struggle to keep the business alive, especially through the pandemic is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.Beautiful film. The theater has great prices on concessions. Tickets are reasonable and the movie selection is fantastic. As an independent theater they are able to show films that you are unlikely to find in commercial theater. They are also able to support lesser known film makers by showing their films. Each theater is intimate with comfortable seating, cupholders and large clear screens and good sound quality. Friendly service and great location.I love this little theater.
