Sumo Japanese Restaurant
355 State St, Los Altos, CA 94022, United States
My husband and I dined at the Sumo Japanese Restaurant in downtown Los Altos on a Thursday evening. It was the perfect way to wait for a tow truck to arrive due to my car’s flat tire! We ate indoors but there are a few outdoor tables. Spacious yet cozy we ate near the window as the hostess promptly served us tea. I ordered the Unagi Donburi (broiled eel with sauce, rice on the bottom and two slices of Takuan (pickled yellow radish) served in a traditional lacquered Unaju box & lid. The unagi was a bit mushy for my taste. My husband ordered a sashimi plate that was presented in a lovely glass bowl filled with ice. He said the sashimi was very fresh and delicate in flavor. Downtown Los Altos has many restaurants to choose from and it was pleasant to be greeted with hot green tea and smiles.

A Hidden Gem. As we walk into a narrow but beautiful small room, I am greeted with the unmistakable smell of the hibachi charcoal burning... cooking...searing meat....Definitely Authentic...Most Definitely Japanese. We were seated at a small table with a view of the chefs .What a treat to be able to see the chefs hard at work over the food... We ordered the Wagyu and a few different yakitori suggestions made kindly by our server. Our meal was not rushed and came out beautifully timed with every tasty treat plated simply and cleanly. The beginning of our meal started with a deep fried Geso Karage. Crunchy chewy yummy . We topped it with the spice from the small jar on the table. After that came our Yakitori. We were instantly transported back to Japan...the taste, smell, and sounds surrounding us. Many tables of Japanese speaking customers made us feel as if we were back in an Izakaya again. Our favorite by far was the Wagyu Beef and the suggested chicken w onion . Also, the gizzard & heart were on special, a personal favorite, we humbly suggest you try these. Do not miss out or be intimidated. So Many items we would like to try. We happened to lucked out on a walk-in reservation as we were in the area. You have to call to make a reservation. The website link they prompt you to online doesnt work, unfortunately, but the service and food here are impeccable. A small but amazing menu of Yakitori, Handrolls, and other delights await. Delicious worth every penny & We will definitely be back.

The chef with more than 30 years of experience previously opened a high-end Japanese sushi restaurant with no menu in Los Altos, San Franciscos South Bay in 2015 after operating in Hawaii for 28 years. The restaurant can only accommodate 8 people. The store emphasizes the spirit of Omotenashi as the purpose of the store. Treat guests with a customer-oriented attitude and make guests feel at home. The tableware and utensils used are carefully selected, and the sushi bar is made from the logs of an 800-year-old Japanese zelkova tree discovered in Gifu Prefecture. All ingredients come directly from small Japanese farms, including the highest quality fish and Wagyu beef from Toyosu Fish Market. Serve food in a simple way to make it taste more delicious, trying to keep the original flavor without adding too much seasoning.Come and try the chefs selection, which costs $500 per person. Its selection of ingredients, techniques, and flavor composition are quite exciting and meticulous!Sushi HongSushi HIROSHI328 Main St., Los Altos, CA 94022

Satura Cakes

For those of you who like Paris Baguette type Asian bakeries you will love Satura. My Korean friends who are fans of Paris Baguette love this place so I gave it a 3 star. I prefer traditional French patisseries so its more of a 1 star for me.We did try 4 different times, just because we live in the area, and are in Los Altos downtown eating several times a week. The last time we tried a fresh Tiramisu (we checked that it was sold out two days before so we knew it was relatively fresh), almond croissant, coffee bun, and some savory items. None of them rang our bells, not worth the calories. The tiramisu looked pretty but was just a lot of dense cream. Almond croissant not flaky but plenty of almond cream. The coffee buns are our favorite of the bunch, since we like Korean mocha bread.Husband was not happy to find that savory items like the ham and cheese croissant, bacon leek scone, had a sweet taste.Beware freshness levels. Long lines dont mean everything is sold out that day. Especially the cookies and cakes are only replaced on certain days when they run out I guess. If you want to be sure, go on an afternoon to see what they are sold out of. Then the next day they are likely to have fresh ones. On a weekday morning for example we got a rancid doughnut. The doughnut wasnt freshly fried, nor was the oil used good quality. It didnt even look good, but we naively assumed everything was freshly baked that morning (it isnt) and we tried it thinking it may taste better than it looked due to all the rave reviews.I also ordered a dino cake (sorry, I had pics but got deleted) for a baby birthday party and everyone loved it. The frosting is light. I am not a fan of strawberry shortcake to begin with, and felt that it wasnt fresh. There was some slight bleeding of the eye decoration. Assuming they assemble them a couple of days before and refrigerate them until pickup. Also, while the concept of animal theme cake is cute, the cake decorating skills could have been better. Its very basic, like a supermarket birthday cake level. I know this is Silicon Valley but for almost a hundred, you would think you could get a perfect cake.

Supplements of all types, natural health care products. Fresh seafood and meat choice counters. Hot buffet style dishes and soups (before covid interfered.) Pizza counter. Sandwich and burrito counter. Self-fill filtered water station. Excellent dairy and non-dairy choice selections. Gluten - free selections of food, along with the usual choices. Lots of fresh bread and quality commercial bread choices. Organic choices in food along with non-organic. Prices run on the expensive side, although some discounts are given if you are a special member of Amazon. Parking is plentiful. There is handicap and electric car recharge designated parking. Bathrooms are usually well-equipped and handicap accessible. Staff is trained to be very helpful, and to keep the store tidy and clean. There are food store shoppers and delivery service available here. I believe that Amazon ordered items can be picked up from lockers here (?) There had been a casual dining area both indoors and outdoors before covid rules destroyed that. At this point of time, they could and should reinstate the outdoor dining areas, but have chosen not to instead. ? Management please look into that. You have customers that are traveling far by car, bus, hike, and bike that are hungry and would like to eat on spot.
Chef Chus
1067 N San Antonio Rd #1300, Los Altos, CA 94022, United States
Had lunch with my adult daughter, her choice, Chef Chus. I was about 10 minutes early and it was a packed house. I yold them two people even though my daughter wasnt there yet but I let him know itd be a few minutes. But like I said the house was full so it was going to be a few minutes late anyways and thats what the host communicated to me. Now here comes my only negative in this experience so I rolled over to the to the bar to get something to drink while I waited for my daughter and they were using the bar for seating and the tables in the bar but there was an open slot not set with tableware. Now there was one customer at the bar with just asked for menu and nobody else in the bar area except me there was what appeared to be a bartender behind the bar yet as I stood there he walked past me a couple of times, looked at me a couple times and never offered me a drink. In fact my table became available and I never did get that drink directly from the bar. So they sat me at a table for two although my daughter had yet to arrive and I thought that was really good because a lot of restaurants wont do that. A busboy immediately stop by and fill the waters there was hot tea that was delicious on the table I informed the busboy that Id like to order a drink and he sent the server over immediately. Great job up from the server and on anticipating that I been sharing my the appetizer vegetarian spring rolls that I had ordered and he cut it and distributed into two even portions onto two has my daughter sat down we ordered a drink for her and asked the way for a few minutes and he gave us a few minutes and returned. Our food amazingly quick and tasted delicious Chef cheese has been around for a while I hadnt been there for a while but it brought back memories of the last time Ive been there. The staff was friendly unintrusive and an anticipatory. Overall were rated a very positive lunch time experience and do recommend.
