Great little Japanese restaurant in downtown Modesto. Their inari sushi and BBQ pork ramen were fantastic.The menu also includes some Chinese food like Orange Chicken, Sweet and Sour Beast, and Chow Mein. I have not tried any of their Chinese dishes yet, but if they are as good as the Japanese I will be very happy.As a side note: This is the only Japanese restaurant I have found that still serves Inari Sushi. Inari Sushi is a very easy sushi to make; stuff sushi rice into a tofu skin pocket. At one time it was on the menu of all Japanese restaurants but fell out of favor with the advent of West Coast/California neo-Japanese sushi rolls – the sushi rolls with avocado, nuts, and cheap imitation crab smothered in mayonnaise.

This is real Japanese Food. Not someone trying to imitate sushi or tempura. The waitress was Japanese and very attentive. She also spoke English which was good for our guests that couldnt decide what to order.And most importantly, the cook was Japanese and the food was delicious. My wife always judges a Japanese restaurant to be authentic if there is Saba on the menu and this place had it and it was perfect. We are now so happy to have found a true honest Japanese Restaurant in Modesto.

I can see why this place has a high rating. The service is definitely A+. Though the price is a little on the higher side than what I’m used to, but I am extremely impressed with the quality of the sushi as well as their chicken teriyaki. As much as I would like to give them four stars, they offer a five star quality dining. The ambience is how I expect them to be. They were playing Japanese music and their sashimi is of top quality. Their staff is very professional… No playing around unlike Kimoto sushi down the road. I had the caterpillar roll while my husband had the California roll as well as the bento box. All of the food was to perfection as a Japanese restaurant should be. We will definitely come back to this location when the sushi craving kicks in. This Japanese restaurant is open with seating outside right now. As I only go during lunch, the lunch portions are generous and the food excellent. The service is good and the price more than reasonable for the large dinner plate they service during lunch.

This place uses farmed fish not wild Caught, It is very rare for them to import anything anything everything is accessible in local stores that they sell horrible Japanese restaurant totally Americanized. The chefs forget to put wasabi And Ginger All the time. They are not professional Traditional sushi chefs. The waiters are young and almost seem attitude driven. If I had the money I would blow this place out the water with a real Japanese style restaurant. They dont even try.

I was a little disappointed. Food that should have been served hot was barely lukewarm. Service was good, but I had to ask for refills of tea. There are better Japanese restaurants within just a few miles. On the up-side, they have a creative menu, and my sushi roll was very good.

Our first time at Mikis sushi was Great!, my Girlfriends first time at a Japanese food restaurant, she loved the service and we both loved the food but she said her beef teriyaki was a little to pink but besides that everything was Great!.

I went to Toris on a Friday nite around 9pm for the first time with friends. Its was okay considering...the hostess was M.I.A at the doorway. The place was packed with on-lookers in the front lounge/karaoke area hearing / watching in fright at the high pitched shrilling karaoke rendition of phantom of the opera.We would have waited forever if it wasnt for the smart thinking of my friend. We sat down and when the waitress asked us what we would like for drinks, I asked for cold sake. She didnt know if they had cold sake but knew they only carried two. Two? As wait staff new or old, you should know whats on hand. I sushi chef knew what kind of cold sake the establishment had. We ordered the Nigiri, with shot glasses. Were going enjoy this night. Sad to say, the waitress came back and said they didnt have any more Nigiri, WTF! Really? For a Friday nite an establishment should be fully stocked to quench customers who have had a ridiculously amazing week. So we just drank free tap water.We ordered appetizers which took forever, so we ordered our sushi rolls. We were not in a hurry, but hungry. The sushi chef did double duty being sushi maker and waitress since we didnt have chopsticks or napkins. We ordered our appetizers which came late, after we went through our sushi rolls. The sushi rolls were good like any other place. The only thing was they fell apart easily.Overall, if you want karaoke, sushi, Teppanyaki, and spotty service, Toris is the place for you.There are other sushi places in Modesto with less noise, comparable prices, sushi and better service.
