Oji Sushi & Sake Bar
800 1/2 W Beverly Blvd, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
Here’s the thing to remember when you go to Oji Sushi & Sake Bar, it’s located in Montebello which is a working class, gateway city in Los Angeles County. The restaurant makes up the northwest corner of Beverly Boulevard and Montebello Boulevard, marking the entrance of a sizable stripmall. Sushi is limited in Montebello so if you live there or happen to be passing through, Oji is the best you’re going to get. Oji takes pride in serving its community and Montebello is family orientated so more than likely there will be children present when you visit. It is not Urasawa or one of the other trendy, expensive sushi restaurants you would find in L.A. proper, but it provides good quality sushi and efficient service at a very reasonable price.Oji takes the pandemic seriously so the hostess will take your temperature before she seats you, offering indoor or outdoor seating. We chose to sit on the patio because it was a nice day, but the indoor ambiance offers modern Japanese decor that is aesthetically pleasing and fun. Also, the bathrooms were very clean and parking is not a problem. Our order was simple consisting of California roll, albacore, salmon, and sweet egg sashimi; we enjoyed it enough to get a second order with the exact same choices. I’m not one for sake, but Oji does offer two of my favorite Japanese beers, Sapporo and Asahi. They also offer Mexican Coke, which is made with real sugar instead of corn syrup like American Coke. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Mexican Coke is healthier than American Coke, but it sure tastes better. We had a pleasant lunch at Oji Sushi & Sake Bar on April 1, 2021, and I would go again if I am ever in the area again. The experience wasn’t so exceptional that I haven’t been able to stop raving about it, but for the quality, price, and location, you can’t beat it.
atKBOPKogi Teriyaki
7801 Telegraph Rd Q, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
First warning I missed, when I called for directions,: These was the conversation: Hello,Yes, Is this Koji Teriyaki? Yes, what do you want???Second warning the bill,: a rip off, Paid $26.36+3 dollars tip for a tempura plate and a shrimp fried rice.BTW, on their online menu the tempura plate is $8.99, same is the fried rice.Third warning: execrable food. The tempura plate that came with a soy sauce dip instead of teriyaki and the shrimp fried rice had 5 2 inch shrimps and a fried rice with almost no vegetables that was competing with 99cent store quality. And the guy who took my order was bragging about how fresh his food is....I will never return and caution you to visit.
Sakura Sushi & Roll
1228 S Greenwood Ave, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
Laid back family friendly place for good fish and sake and beer. The sushi chefs are friendly even though they are slammed for a Friday night dinner rush.Rolls are priced around $8-$15.They carry uni and quail egg which is my litmus test for any sushi place.Yet this is NOT a place for sushi snobs. This is a place that caters to its demographic and the rolls, salads and even sashimi are served in over the top plates that seem big but offer lots of fluff like lettuce and shaved radish to make the dish seem bigger than it is.The specialty rolls are over stuffed and the extra sauces do not complement the fish but mask it instead.I had a Firemans Roll which had an awesome seared pepper tuna. The siracha, jalapeño, and spicy crab completely overwhelmed the fantastic tuna. I wouldnt have known there was tuna on it except for the fact that I picked it off and tasted it without all the sauce and filler. This unfortunately does take away from the flavor of the fish. There were literally two fist fulls of shredded radish and parsley on my sashimi plate. Not necessary. Not offensive but not necessary. The seaweed salad has a nice portion atop a mountain of mixed greens! Not necessary.Looking around the dining room and the average person weighed around 240 lbs.I suspect that the presentation of the dish is aimed to please this demographic. But I cant really trash this place. You can skip the fluff and have some really good fish. The salmon is buttery, the albacore flavorful and the tuna was smooth and very very slightly iodine flavored which is rare. Its in a strip mall so if you are trying to impress a date it may not be the best place but if you want some good fish at a reasonable price, it sure beats the two other sushi restaurants in the area.
Sansei Japan
1740 Montebello Town Center, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
Sansei Japan cafeteria is inside the Patio Cafe food court of the shops at Montebello mall. It's one of few places that make the California rolls and the shrimp ? tempura rolls to order. They're really fresh and tasty. The chow men noodles are delicious. The beef ? & shrimp ? teriyaki is perfect. Great place for a Japanese quick, delicious, and healthy full filling meal ?
Miki-Chans Okazu-Ya
2529 Via Campo, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
So we saw a review done by Grub with Greg, a guy we follow on Instagram. Usually, the foods he reviews look amazing - which was the case with Miki Chans.Well, we were kinda disappointed from the moment we walked in. The place was kinda dingy looking, crates stacked at the entrance, and chairs lined up to keep you away from the glass case where the foods were. Some of the foods that were recommended by Grub with Greg didnt look very fresh - like they had been sitting for a little while - like the ribs, which I was looking forward to trying, but they didnt look very appealing. We ended up getting a two item meal with the Hawaiian noodles with pork, the BBQ pork and teriyaki chicken. I also got a side of orange chicken and a chicken eggroll -- our food came to 18 dollars and change. The noodles were just ok, the BBQ pork was disappointing since it really looked good, but it was so dry, the teriyaki chicken was tasty and not dry, and the orange chicken was just ok. The chicken egg roll was just ok - I didnt really notice chicken - it did had a strong ginger flavor though. We picked up our food around 7pm - possibly if you get there earlier, the food might be a little fresher. It seems that people like this place, so I guess we just caught them at an off time. The lady behind the counter was very nice! I really wanted this food to be amazing because she was so sweet! Kinda bummed it was such a disappointment!

Fusion Wings

I was in the mood for chicken wings and thought Id give Fusion Wings in Montebello a try. Whoooa!! Their wings are absolutely AMAZING!! Where have you guys been all my life? Without a doubt, this place serves up the best chicken wings in all of Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, and beyond. Ive tried them all, and no one even comes close.I had the garlic parmesan, lemon pepper, and jalepeno chicken wings. The seasonings are cooked into the chicken with a hot wok. You can hear the chef working in the kitchen with his long spatula, the hot oil simmering and sizzling as the wings and seasonings are added to the flaming hot wok. Tay, the master chef, works that wok like a conductor at the symphony. The sound and the aroma are wonderful! For sides, I ordered their specialty tater tots and their home made vegetable egg rolls. Fresh and delicious, just like my mama used to make. And yes, these egg rolls do count as a serving of vegetables in my world. For drinks, I had the Thai iced tea with boba and a diet coke. Will I be back? Yes, of course. Will I go to any of those other wimpy, mix the wings & seasonings in a cold salad bowl places? Hell No! Not anymore. Ive seen the light and it is heavenly! Fusion Wings is now my only source to satisfy my cravings for wings.
The Chicken Bowl

Looking for something to eat thats absolutely delicious and healthy! Eat here and the prices arent bad, because its worth the taste or, tastes for this amazing food flavor because once you start, you wont stop, you wont be able to put the fork down and if my 14 year old says; Yoshinoya has nothing on them. Trust his taste buds because he is picky when it comes to going out to eat because hes so used to my homemade cooking and baking. Hes ready to go back for 2nds! ? The gentleman who answered the phone to place our order was very helpful and patient because it was our first time ordering here.
Angry Horse Brewing
603 W Whittier Blvd, Montebello, CA 90640, United States
Good beer, decent prices. A nice selection to choose from as well as beer to go. They play the music I like (rock, progressive rock, indie, ect...)The dodger game was on, and it was cool inside while warm inside. Service was good, friendly, quick. No food that I saw but I think they sell bar snacks like chips, pretzels, and beef jerky. They have non alcoholic drinks like bottled soda. They take card. I see booths to sit at in the back almost like you see at a restaurant, but I sat at the bar today.Overall, in my experience, it seems like a nice little hangout spot to grab a drink, and try some new ones. Angry Horse Brewery also has tables outside, but I dont think you can take drinks outside.I posted the recent beer menu full of their unique crafts. I was not disappointed going here my first time, give AHB a try!
The Shops at Montebello

I used to come here quite often as a child. I and my siblings went to rosewood park elementary school and remember the events we would have there during Christmas. They would get the students to sing and perform on stage while they put out the fake snow and I just remember it being amazing. Now still shopping there, over 15 years later, not much has changed. There is still a big selection of great stores. Then if anything so many new food places have opened up. My friends and I have found ourselves there just to eat sometimes. I just bought new so addidas backpack for a friend and it wasnt overtly priced like the ones online and she loved it for her birthday. The one main issue I always find while coming here though would have to be the parking. Its really all just luck. Sometimes Ill come in and find a spot super quick and under 5 mins. Other times Ill sit there looking for parking for up to 25 mins because its just so crowded. I never worry if I park too far, they have these little golf carts pick you up and drop you off which makes it super convenient, especially if its hot or you are stuck carrying too much. Its all in the time you go as well. Many places replenish in the morning so thats when you find a ton of good stuff at awesome prices where as at the end of the day due to the high amount of people, everything good will be gone and the selection youll find wont be as great.
