Belles Beach House
24 Windward Ave, Venice, CA 90291, United States
This is my FAVORITE spot to eat dinner when I come home to visit from college! The food, the music, the ambiance, the vibe, the environment, the presentation are all 10/10. There is always a live DJ playing music during dinner. It brings me home to Europe and makes me want to dance.??I have tried almost every item on the menu and nothing has left me unhappy. It is all SO delicious. Some food recs from an extravagant foodie: The spicy tuna crispy rice is TO DIE FOR. (ps: ask for a side of the avocado mousse to add) BY FAR my favorite thing on menu. I am a HUGE sushi fan and all of their rolls make me want another bite they are THAT good (ask for a side of spicy mayo if you want to take it up a notch, thank me later??). The Lobster roll is my favorite if I had to pick one. The Crispy Rock Shrimp is the perfect appetizer!! The flavor is unmatched and it is lightly fried which I enjoy. We always end up ordering a second crispy rock shrimp it is truly life changing. I am currently in my health ERA, and I recently started enjoying salads. The salads here are NEXT LEVEL. The maple miso makes my mouth water thinking about the sweet, savory dressing and dont even get me started on the crispy QUINOA on top. Perfection!! I can never leave here with out a dessert and every dessert I have tried is a 10/10. The passion fruit mousse is personally my favorite, but the mango tart is a close runner up. The workers are always so accommodating and helpful when deciding what to get on their insane menu. This restaurant brings the Hawaiian VIBE with a Japanese flair that makes the experience everything and more. I am currently deciding when I am making my next reservation here because I cant get enough of this place. My only regret is that I didnt order more...You wont be disappointed. YUMMMMM!!!?
Venice Teriyaki
1301 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291, United States
I had a bad experience with the people who sell the food, it was very unpleasant to ask for food and to be told that you are arguing just for asking the prices. And the cost of using the card is excessive. I was very excited because I remember having eaten there when the owner was Japanese and he made delicious dishes. They are rude and inattentive. But everyone gives what they have, I wont go again and I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND IT..
Hama Sushi
213 Windward Ave, Venice, CA 90291, United States
Hama is an unpretentious Japanese restaurant located down Venice in Los Angeles. The sushi is not the best ever I eaten but it’s good, technically correct made, plus (big plus) they serve ice cold Sapporo! ? I would argue that Hama is the perfect spot when you like a casual, uncomplicated yet tasty bite with friends & colleagues. I mean, what more do you need sometimes?
wa
1635 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291, United States
From the outside you dont expect how big the location is and the inside decor is the best part. We had a romantic dinner for Valentines thanks to Owa and wouldnt have wanted to go anywhere else. We were greeted to the table with champagne, and our server was amazing. Nestled in the heart of Venice, Owa is a beacon of culinary excellence that beckons sushi enthusiasts and novices alike to embark on a delectable journey through Japanese gastronomy. We ordered the top items on the menu, all the rolls have so much flavor and was so fresh. Much needed restaurant on Abbot Kinney! Another recommendation is any of the crudos and toro tataki. In conclusion, Owa gave us the best Japanese cuisine experience. Prepare to be dazzled, delighted, and utterly captivated by the sheer brilliance of this culinary gem.

Stay Open Venice Beach
11 Brooks Ave APT B, Venice, CA 90291, United States
Wow! There are so many things I could say about my stay I am not sure where to start! I visited Venice Beach/ Santa Monica Beach as a solo traveler for the first time last week. I have never stayed in a hostel or work space concept before and was curious to try something new.Location: Stay Open literally sits on the beach at 11 Brooks Ave so the location is perfect!Check In: The opener came off a little crass while giving me a tour of the house as it was still quiet time and I was trying to move about the house with luggage and bags in hand but I was able to check in super early which was a plus!Bedding/Pod: My pod was made up and ready for me to use. I quickly started unpacking my stuff and tried to make myself comfortable. Its a Twin size bed that has a fan, chargers, outlets for additional chargers, and a fire alarm inside. The Space: The space is an open concept with no doors besides the showers/toilets. Four levels so plenty of room to spread out and chill or work if you plan to stay in most of your trip. Absolutely beautiful, especially the rooftop! The Guests: I enjoyed meeting literally people from all over the world. Everyday I woke up, someone had checked out and someone new checked in! Lol Everyone was sweet and very polite and we all go to know where we we were all from and what brought us to Venice.Other things to note: One of the openers (host) has a dog that was there everyday of my stay. I wanted to point this out as on their website it states guest cannot bring their dog but there was one that was present inside most of the day during my stay. If you have allergies or are afraid of dogs in general you might want to reach out to management before your stay for special accomodations. The dog was friendly for sure but I get how some people are just not dog people, so full disclosure here.Overall, I had a great stay! Close to everything and I mean everything in Venice and Santa Monica! I am glad I decided to make my stay extra special by trying something new! When on Venice Beach, go check this place out!
Mar Vista Farmers Market
12198 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066, United States
If you live in the city of Smog it can be hard to get quality organic locally grown food. So that means most everything is shipped in, even to the Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc. So your left with going to these markets. A close friend lives about 1 block and a half from here and must come here all the time. My first experience here was quite positive. Obviously space is limited, but I guess Im used to more vendors and more options, but Ill give them an extra star for the quality of cheeses, seafood and spreads I sampled.I ended up getting about 3 pounds of golden beets, and a pound of king trumpet mushrooms, fairly uncommon ingredients. I tried some really amazing cheeses and spreads and I got an oyster shucked for $2.00 (only bad thing was Roland Heights sold oysters by the box which ended up being $0.50 each). These tasted just a little more fresh, but they used limes instead of lemons. I was amazed at the sushi grade fish selection, right up there with Catalina Offshore Products down in San Diego. I found their salmon roe to be late season catches due to size and very globular. Only 2 vendors had golden beets and 1 mushroom vendor. I expected more food (Dreys BBQ was using Mesquite on all meats which I found off). I myself am no novice with the BBQ and prefer certain woods on certain cuts and meats. Id love to issue 5 stars, but I guess I was looking for more variety in food vendors and not farmers, who were great. A 4.5 all the way, but alas I err on the side of critical because Ive been to miles of vendors with the full gamut of food that is all locally grown and organic.
Tortoise General Store
12701 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066, United States
My husband and I always wondered what Tortoise General Store was, so we felt the need to pop in over the weekend. What IS this place? A 7-Eleven type store, a liquor shop, a small grocery store?Never mind the kimono I was wearing, I had no idea how appropriate it would be....Upon entering, a curation of Japanese goods welcomed us as we perused the shelves. Clothes, pottery, watches, shoes, lights, décor and more at this trendy yet cultured store. The lady behind the counter was friendly and said itd be no problem to take some photos, wahoo! With LAs incredibly diverse population, its normal to walk into a store and feel like youve been transported to that country. Thats what happens in Tortoise, youre transported to Japan. The store feels like a museum as well, with pottery and items on display that are so pretty you dont know if you can buy them or not, (but guess what, you CAN)!If you dig culture, minimalist style, items for your home and love to shop locally then you must stop in Tortoise! Wanderlust Creamery
609 Lincoln Blvd suite b, Venice, CA 90291, United States
One of the true competitors to Salt & Straw of Oregon fame. The flavor at Wanderlust are daring and bold, and they strive for that international flavor profile almost to a point of reach with pandan-flavored cones. Small/shared parking lot with the barber shop, difficult to locate based on navigation (it's directly across from the Smart & Final parking lot), bike racks on the wall kinda look like nooses. The bar seating has purse hooks like a brewery. The bathroom is hidden behind a panel of wall paper, tricky to find.My first time trying Wanderlust creamery was at the Smorgasburg food truck gathering every Sunday from 10am-4pm. We took a broad approach with their ice cream flight and found all the flavors to be pronounced and distinct.Fast-forward to most recent, we went to their shop and was actually confused on the location only to realize it is on a lot to an old garage. The restaurant was brightly lit and the waft of waffle cones were in the air.I encourage people to indulge in their theme and go on an adventure regarding their flavors. None of them are too sweet unless it has something intrinsically sweet, like caramel. The servings were also generous. The cone felt a slight bit soggy or stale, maybe because people shied away from Pandan (too foreign?).
Cafe Gratitude
512 Rose Ave, Venice, CA 90291, United States
TLDR; Staff was fantastic!! Food was delicious. Overall experience was disappointing. Cost felt high, especially due to our meh experience. We arrived and chose to eat in the outdoor area to minimize potential COVID exposure since we were embarking on air travel the next morning. We chose a table and began the process of ordering with the QR code mobile system. There was no guidance or indication on the correct process for this so with four people at the table getting 3 separate checks it seemed reasonable for us to make our own orders from our own phones.Shortly after ordering another party arrived and sat right next to us so we found the host and asked if we could slide down one table to increase our distance. He kindly said of course and we slid down one table. Shortly after that (unbeknownst to us) my nachos app was delivered to the party that had just seated. That party started getting a bit loud for us, and since we didn't have any food yet we decided to slide further away. I asked the hostess again if this would be okay letting him know that we had already ordered and again he kindly said that could be fine and accompanied me to where we were moving so he could make adjustments.Shortly after that one of our party's entrées had an attempted delivery to the larger party we moved away from, I saw this and motioned to the server and let him know that we had moved. When it arrived at our table we were surprised to see that it wasn't the nachos order and instead was just one of our party's entrées. I mentioned my nachos to the server and he said he'd check.A bit later the entrées ordered together for two others in our party arrived. I went up to find the original host to see if he could check that our table number was or could be updated. I did not find him but checked with another person behind the counter and they said they'd take care of it. A while after this my entrée arrived. This is where the one flaw with our meals happened, the fries were just a step warmer than cold and the burger was also cool.Still no nachos and my drink was also not delivered with my meal. I had to find a server again to ask about my drink. The nachos arrived. My drink arrived. We had a similar albeit easier experience getting our deserts. Conclusion: I know what you may be thinking, that our shifting of tables was obviously responsible for all of our issues. I agree that this was likely the trigger that instigated most of the issues other than the original order of nachos being delivered to the wrong table when we were still right there and the table that should have got them was the empty table between us and the larger party. But…This experience exposes flaws in the order from mobile with minimal server assistance. In a traditional scenario we would have had a server assigned to us that would have know of our moves and followed along with us.We would have had someone check in on us, see if there was anything they could help with or ask how our meals were. This never happened so we were forced to go locate someone for help with our missing orders and I ended up eating cold fries and burger with no thought of enduring the process of trying to correct the situation. The other issue is pre-payment, including tip.The staff and effort toward service within the system was great, other than never being checked on we were very happy with the staff and service. The food was great too, other than my cold meal, everyone else loved their meals and mine was yummy albeit cold. Other than the fries, those are never good cold.Had I not already ordered and paid for the nachos I definitely would have canceled them once entree's started arriving. The tip thing is tricky, because the food and service was great and we shouldn't be subjecting servers to whims of an array of customers and moods to get a living wage. Asking for it ahead of time may cause other diners to tip cautiously without having yet received service. Thanks for the great service and food. I hope this review is helpful.
