Layang Layang Malaysian Cuisine

For Fathers Day I took my Dad (who is 3rd generation Malaysian), Mom (who is 2nd generation Malaysian), and youngest brother to this Malaysian restaurant named Layang-Layang (which means Kite in Malay) and they both said the food is amazing. This is our new favorite restaurant since our previous favorite place Golden Pineapple (formerly called Mango Island) in Fremont shut down permanently during COVID in 2020.My Dad got his favorite: Malaysian Kari Mee (Chicken Curry Noodle Soup)And for the rest of us we shared:Malaysian Sizzling Black Pepper ChickenSingapore Chili PrawnChar Kueh TeowMalaysian Fried RiceHokkien MeePisang Goreng (Fried Banana) with Fried Ice Cream.Service was also great the waiter would visit us on occasion to fill our water if it looked low or ask us if we needed anything else.I highly recommend this place!

We were a group of nine people who reserved a table ahead of time. Since it was a big crowd we shared our food. We ordered appetizers, drinks, main course and dessert. A couple of people ordered separately as take out for their home. The service was good and we were meeting after a long time hence, didnt pay much attention to anything but went with the flow. It was not even closing time but the waitress came and told us the kitchen is going to close and so the moment we heard this we rushed to order more as some of them were strict vegetarians. But we realized the kitchen was not closing that soon. Anyway, when it came to paying the bill, it was decided the take out items will be paid by the individuals. We asked for the bill and saw that our bill included the service charge and then for take out there was a service charge included too. This seemed very strange as for takeout how can you ask for a service charge? Our friend asked the waitress, to which she responded- when you come in a group and ask for takeout, its a lot of work for us to fill in a box hence the service charge. This reason didnt seem reasonable hence my friend asked for the manager. The manager came and was already in an apologetic mode. My friend explained the situation and the manager without asking anything further did a refund for all the takeout items and apologized on behalf of his staff. The other thing, I had ordered a cocktail and I didnt want that to be included in the group bill. Hence ahead of time I requested the waitress to not include the price for cocktail in the main bill and I will pay it separately. She agreed and got my cocktail bill. Later while we were checking our main bill to make sure we were paying for what we ordered, to our surprise, the waitress added the cocktail bill in the main bill as well as she gave a separate bill to me which I had requested. The food was great and I have been going to this place since 2005. I always enjoyed the food, service and the manager was a nice person then too. This time I learned a lesson, always check your bill and when in doubt ask for the manager as he will never be wrong.

We visited this place last Friday. We ordered Manchurian Sizzler, Malaysian Roti Prata,Passion Fruit Lemonade and Hazelnut Bliss. This place has good ambience and was not too crowded. The Malaysian Roti Prata was fresh, flaky and sauce was flavourful.Passion Fruit Lemonade was very refreshing and had real passion fruit pulp in it.The Hazelnut Bliss(Vietnamese Coffee) had a nice taste and we loved the flavor of the coffee. The Manchurian sizzler plate had Spring Rolls instead of fries(because they were out of fries). The spring rolls were crispy and tasty. The Veg Manchurian balls were crispy and had good taste. Fried rice and Noodles were a little bland but when combined with the sauce given both tasted very delicious. Everything was very tasty overall. But I think for 18$ the quantity was a little less(probably because of inflation, cant blame them). The fact that this place is fully vegetarian and all the dishes we ordered were flavourful, would make us go back to this place again to try out some more dishes. Best Indo Chinese food in Bay area.
Pinoy Bbq ATBP

Their sisig and lechon are a favorite party request! I have family from out of town and these are the dishes that I have been asked to order all the time. The restaurant is tucked in the same neighborhood where you can find Korean, Malaysian, Chinese, Indian and Filipino dishes (I’m sure there’s a lot more to discover). How cool is that. Pinoy BBQ ATBP is located in Milpitas CA and has been a local favorite among the lunch crowd since forever and I know why. Their dishes are flavorful, mouth watering and delicious. You have to try their BBQ, they are something else. A definite 10/10

One of the worst experiences that we had with our toddler. He turns 2 today, saw good reviews for kids, decided to drive 20 mins to come here! Were greeted with strange expressions right on arrival, ignored it! For some reason our server was in bad mood, we wanted to order and get baby food first as he'd not eaten was hungry, we were given cold stares, pls wait we're coming to you - I made up half a mind to leave right away, but didn't, she came to take order and made faces on asking (do you have oat milk for coffee) regular questions - maybe they're accustomed to people ordering their usuals! Requested to get baby food early- came after 25 minutes, after multiple inquiries. I was almost out of patience and asked the server if she is having a good morning, and if not we wouldn't mind getting a different server- she said she was trying to make her morning work! She went to the lady behind the counter and they chatted pointing in our direction- I usually don't take all this and usual is get in, dine, have a good a time and leave, but suddenly they made it toxic, the lady on the counter and almost threw the check on our table while asking for coffee! I called after her, didn't get any answers! We paid and started leaving, I was out of the door, when my wife her them shouting oh my god! Looking at our table(, my toddler had made a little mess on her plate, to be honest), horrible horrible experience! Those who enjoy here, pls keep doing so, I'll ask the new diners to take the positives with a pinch of salt especially if you don't look like the owners/staff !
Surya Darshini Dosa Cafe
691 S Milpitas Blvd #131, Milpitas, CA 95035, United States
Well! This restaurant is not for everyone- but definitely awesome for people who love this particular thick and crispy style dosa- the Bangalore style dosa. If youve grown up eating this style, read no more, go try everything from this place, you wont regret it. Its authentic to an extent that my 3 stars would make some of their fans pretty sad. Also, maybe youre not too conscious about oil/ butter like me - you will LOVE it. So go try them out :)Anyway, here I am with my honest thoughts-They have a pre order system and we ordered a takeout for Saturday afternoon and the pickup experience was pretty easy - absolutely no wait. The dosa was pretty tasty and crispy. Loved the potato masala as well. But, there were a few things which put us off - it was too buttery and when I say too much, I felt like it was almost shallow fried. Me and my partner couldnt finish 1 dosa each coz it was too heavy for us. Also, the sambar was not even mildly hot- and too less in quantity (there are two little boxes in the takeout box, one had chutney and the other had sambar. I would expect at least a 4 ounce container of sambar. Also, probably we were the unlucky ones that one side of one of the dosas was almost burnt. This restaurant today is run end to end by a couple. I wish I could support them better. Recently, theyve started serving more items like idli recently. They sell khara buns as well - we couldnt try it. They were super clean and added 1 fresh napkin in each box as well.Parking is easy and they have a good number of outdoor seating available outside the pickup area.

Stopped by here while waiting to pick up food from a wonderful Malaysian restaurant Layang Layang nearby. They had Starbucks and Peets coffee, both ground and whole beans. The place was super clean and everyone was practicing social distancing.
