Capital Noodle Bar Costa Mesa
3033 Bristol St C, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
Decent noodle shop featuring a varied menu of fusian noodle dishes served in a cozy modern space. If you love noodles of all sorts, than this place is worth a try. Enjoyed the pepper beef udon--flavourful, yet not greasy as most stir-fry dishes tend to be. The beef was tender & the noodles were lightly savory/buttery with a touch of peppery spice. My aunt let me try her HK style crispy noodles w/ beef & veggies & it was delish. They also serve good tea drinks & Vietnamese iced coffee.

Not my favorite noodle shop, but you definitely have to try it out one time.
Meiji Seimen Costa Mesa
1113 Baker St E, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
Basically the spot to go to in Costa Mesa if you are looking for authentic Japanese noodles thats not ramen. Their ramen is good but not as good as a dedicated ramen shop. Meiji Seimens specialty is fresh made soba and udon. Hot or cold this is the place to get it. They cook them al dente which provides great texture not soft like in other places. So get ready to get your slurp on and you can thank me later!

I normally wouldnt review a place after just one visit, but lunch left such a good impression, it deserves kudos. An employee revealed its been around for 50+ years and that the owner had been a regular since childhood before purchasing it a few years back. Three childhood friends now run the place, which is a sweet touch, but its not just that, it shows in the pride clearly taken from the meat case to pantry items and more. The service is old-school, glassware chilled, meats slow roasted. Everything is made to order and besides being a deli there are entrees like schnitzel and snazzy sides like a dill packed potato salad and of course, warm German style potato salad as well. This is a German deli, so dont expect Italian style subs, although the meatballs look divine and also come as an appetizer. I wish I had a bigger appetite! The beef dip is served with the most legit jus Ive ever had, the meat itself is flavorful as can be, tender with zero gristle, the bread is crusty and perfect. We were given a sample of the potato salads as first time visitors, which was unexpected and such a nice touch. The turkey Ruben was nothing short of delicious with juicy carved meat like youd eat at Grandmas. Polka music adds to the vibe, which isnt what youd expect in a strip mall on Harbor Blvd. Its a blast from the past in the best of ways. Well certainly be back to work our way through the menu. This is the kind of place you want to support, especially now, as it seems un-phased by Covid in an industry where you have no idea what to expect and often feel slighted by inflation, attitudes, etc. I can see why the Google rating is so high, and I look forward to finding out more reasons than I just described!

Eats Sushi
1175 Baker St E25, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
Shared on Yelp, but I wanted to share here too.Eats Sushi is a quirky name, but absolutely a gem of a sushi place and great in quality. I happened upon this place because my friend and I went to grab coffee at the Anti Lab area, and we both were craving sushi for a second lunch. *cue Hobbit themesong*.I loved the sushi here so much because the quality is fresh and the food is delicious. Loved the food so much that I took a family member back for a second time within the following week. There can be a wait time depending on when you go. When my friend and I went, we put our name on the waitlist and waited for 30 minutes for two people. The second time I went with a family member and there was no wait, so we were seated immediately.Service is wonderful from the two times I went, and I believe its because its Lisa who was our server. Shes incredibly kind and warm, making our experience at this restaurant even more welcoming. The second time when I went with a family member, my family member is special needs, and Lisa was so accommodating in helping make this experience just as comfortable for my family member. The décor was also adorable. I think the way they utilize the space is amazing for what they have to work with. The food truly was delicious, and service was great. I highly recommend their miso soup, Black Spider Roll, Caliente Roll, and the Baked Scallop rolls. The rolls were tasty, flavorful, and so fresh. Would 10/10 recommend.
Seabirds Kitchen
2930 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
This was my second time to Seabirds Kitchen. The first time I came with my sister to try this vegan restaurant.Seabirds used to be a vegan food truck.Eventually they opened a physical restaurant at The Lab.I was so impressed with the food the first time.I had to take Dr. P back to try this place. We sat at the outdoor area for an early dinner.Because we had our puppies with us.Our waitress brought two cups of water for the pups.Dr. P got a beer, and I ordered a lemonade. There's strawberry in the lemonade, and unlimited refill, too. This was the vegan grilled cheese I have been drooling just thinking about it.How did they make vegan grilled cheese taste this good? It's even better than the real grilled cheese. The basil avocado sauce made the dish!If you can only order one item, I would highly recommend getting the grilled cheese. The fries was so good with the seasoning salt.Their homemade ketchup and sauce was perfect with the fries. They have 3 different types of tacos, and we tried all of them.My favorite was the grilled mushroom taco.Dr. P's favorite was the kimchi taco.Their taco is full of flavor. Very filling also.We were so full at this point. So only had a few bites of the Holy Smokes Bowl and took the rest home.Love this vegan bowl filled with healthy and nutritious veggie goodies. The sauces are so good.Even though we were full, the waitress highly recommended their fresh berries pop tart.We couldn't resist and order one to try.It tasted like a fresh berries pie with lots of yummy tart berries inside the pie dough. We enjoyed our vegan dinner at Seabirds Kitchen.Dr. P doesn't really like any vegan restaurant. This is the first vegan restaurant he loves and said he wants to come back again. We should be back again soon.
Fermentation Farm
1125 Victoria St Suite R, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, United States
Love this place so much! I've been a regular for over a year now and will drive 30 min just to come here. I rarely eat out or buy prepared foods, because most of it is just full of junk and cooked with inflammatory seed oils and low quality ingredients. Fermentation Farm is one of the very few places where I feel comfortable eating out, knowing that the food is healthy and nourishing made with great ingredients. If you're into the whole Weston A Price, Ray Peat, Paleo, etc. philosophy, then you will absolutely love this place! Either way you will probably love it and there are many great resources to learn more - classes and books. The employees are really friendly and passionate about health as well. Coming here was a big part of my transition from being a vegan for four years ?introducing back high quality animal foods one thing at a time while supporting my gut health changed my life for the better! However, if you prefer plant based still there are so many options for that tooEverything tastes amazing and there are so many cool things available. We always stock up our fridge with fermented foods, condiments, raw dairy and broths from here.
Wafu of Japan
320 Bristol St Ste. G, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
Good quality, intimate environment, authentic, but doesnt stand out, and quite pricey.Order:Kanpachi Roll (2pieces)Samurai Burrito RollTeriyaki ChickenMiso SoupGenerally positive experience. Food was good quality and authentic. Apparently they hand prepare their miso soup. Interestingly, their miso had a bit of noodles in them. Thats a first for me. Didnt notice any seaweed or tofu, but maybe its a different style.Kanpachi Roll: Simple, fresh, good qualitySamurai Burrito Roll: Their most popular item was pretty filling. Wrapped in lots of rice, and good presentation. Nothing particularly noteworthy. An Americanized roll.Teriyaki chicken: a small bowl of rice and a plate of brown meat chicken with teriyaki sauce and cabbage. Again nothing particularly noteworthy, didnt stand out and actually underwhelming compared to other teriyaki chicken Ive had. It doesnt come with a crispy skin thats fried and adds texture. Thats my personal preference when it comes to teriyaki chicken.Beer: Big bottle of Kirin malt beer. Cant go wrong with Japanese beer.Environment: Intimate and authentic. You will hear Japanese being spoken by the staff and they have an izakaya style set up where you can sit at a bar and watch the food be made in front of your eyes.Overall 8/10 would recommend.Next time Ill try the bento box.
