Chins Szechwan - Encinitas
625 Encinitas Blvd, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I have to start by saying we use to love Chins. Weve been customers for a long time. Unfortunately the quality of the freshness of the food started to fail and not be consistent. We stopped going for a bit but returned to enjoy their generous lunch specials. We enjoyed bringing family and friends as was the case today. We started with shrimp wonton soup but the shrimp tasted awful. I didnt say anything in case it was just me. I noticed one other family member put their shrimp on the side of the bowl. Going on to our meals, we had 2 honey walnut shrimp oreders and Kung pao shrimp. This is something we have ordered many times. Again the shrimp tasted terrible like they were spoiled or going bad. I said nothing until I noticed the other person not eating it as well. When I finally asked, they thought the same thing, that the shrimp were spoiled. We kindly and I promise it was very kind, told them we like their restaurant and this had never happened before but the shrimp could possibly be going bad and did not taste good. He answered, maybe we used a different distributor but I will tell the manager. We heard him speaking to the manager and waited and waited. He finally came over and asked if we wanted to take it home. We said no. He picked up our plates and returned with our check. The manager never came to speak with us, they didnt offer even a 10%discount or replacement meal. We are locals and want to support local businesses but not with the risk of getting sick or bad customer service. P.S. We are the type of people that are quick to put a good word in not just complain so I dont do this lightly.

Stopped by on a relaxing Sunday night, not busy and we got great service. Host was friendly and took care of us well. We ended up getting complimentary edamame. Our order,Wife:1x Black milk tea1x Ramen + Roll combo, Ramen = Black Garlic oil Ramen w/ spicy option added and the sushi roll was the Golden Tiger.Me:1x Hot green tea1x Veggie Gyoza1x Spicy Black Garlic RamenNotes:I specifically mention two types of Garlic oil Ramen. One is a Tonkotsu base with fresh veggies then Garlic Oil drizzled on top. You can make this spicy for an extra dollar. The other is Spicy Black Garlic Oil ramen, this one has the veggies and a pork chashu slice stir fried and grilled then placed on top of a spicy garlic oil tonkotsu broth and noodles. They have the same name on the menu so wanted to make that distinction. Both were outstanding. Get the 1st one if you like fresh veggies, get the 2nd one for a savory experience. The ramen the wife ordered did not come with chashu by default. They use thin noodles (my personal favorite).
Plumeria Vegetarian Encinitas
527 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I went with my daughter on a Saturday around 5:30 PM. It wasn't very crowded there was at least six or seven open tables and I suggested a table in the corner because we were very cold and they had the door open and it was freezing in there. I asked if I could close the door and they said yes and I asked if I could sit in a corner table which was a four top. The owner said no and insisted we sit at a two top table next to the four top table. He said they were going to get busy and that table was for four people.I looked at him surprised because I am a customer and it was our first time there and it wasn't very accommodating. We sat down and not even five minutes later a couple walks in and he sits them at the four top. What is the difference between us and that couple? I felt a little angered but we were hungry and we decided to look at the menu and order. I ordered a seaweed salad with some vegetable spring rolls and some jasmine tea. They brought out tapwater that was room temperature and did not taste very well and the tea was cold not hot. The seaweed salad was delicious the same as I have at any sushi restaurant. The spring rolls were good although the tofu was very soft and my daughter didn't like them. I loved the peanut sauce. I ordered the yellow curry with potatoes tofu and carrot just to be safe and my daughter ordered a noodle dish with Vegetables and Mock chicken. The yellow curry sauce was delicious however the potatoes were very undercooked and the carrots were undercooked. The mock chicken and noodles was terrible it tasted like rubber. I was sad to see my daughter did not like it and I tried it and I didn't like it either I couldn't even swallow it. It did not have a good flavor and it had a very rubber texture and the noodles tasted almost burnt. It had a very small amount of vegetables which my daughter ate with a couple of bites of my rice and some seaweed salad that was the portion of her dinner. By this time it had gotten a little bit more busy and the restaurant was filling up. It's really loud in there so you can't really hear yourself talk because people are screaming at each other across the tables. We decided to leave And as we are waiting for our check nobody came to our table. The waitress came to our table one time just to take dishes and bring our food. I signal the owner that we needed a check and we waited another 20 minutes before we got the check in the meantime he is seating people bringing people wine cleaning tables and walking around to see if everyone's doing OK and completely ignored us. I finally get the check which was almost $50. It was my daughter's birthday and I had said that to the waitress and she did not acknowledge her. Worst $50 ever spent. I would much rather would have spent that money on a nice homemade meal I could've done so much better on my own. When the owner finally brought the Jackie asked if we wanted it to go plate because our plates were pretty intact and I said no thank you. Honestly I wouldn't even give this food to a homeless person. Extremely disappointed with the service, the atmosphere and the food. I don't understand how people review this place so well because it's not that great. Prices were decent thankfully not worth it in the end. Not for us won't be going back or recommending it to anyone. We've been vegan for almost a year and this was just not for the true vegan.
Encinitas Cafe
531 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
Encinitas CafeOur rating was a 3 out of 5 (see formula below) Their rating was based on the following four criteria:Service - Easily the best service so far compared to other restaurants reviewed. Extremely attentive. They were always checking to see if our drinks were full, or if we wanted more. They were also very friendly.Food - I opted for the homade chili and daughter decided to have breakfast for lunch. Perhaps that was the name on the can of chili that they served me. The appearance was too uniform to be homemade and the taste was not that of an authentic homemade meal. Daughter enjoyed the oversized blueberry pancake, scrambled egg and bacon.Ambiance - a typical cafe with counter service if desired. Background music was enjoyable and was probably a few years old from current songs.Cost - Compared to how much food we got, the price seemed adequate. It was the most expensive of all the other places we've been to so far, but probably the most food so far. I got a plate-sized pancake, scrambled egg, and 2 slices of bacon. My dad got a small bowl of chilli, of course we got a side of onion rings, and 2 drinks. To grade each restaurant, we give each category a 1-5 rating, add it all up, then divide by 4. We were thoroughly surprised by how much we enjoyed this restaurant. We ended up giving them a ⅗ stars. One of our highest so far.
Agave Birrieria
865 Orpheus Ave, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I have been going to the Encinitas location weekly since it opened. It used to be AMAZING! I ordered a Carnitas burrito and it was close to the size of a rolled taco. They cooked the life out of the Pico De Gallo and it basically tasted like a stew in a wet tortilla. It leaked everywhere and the tortilla turned into a noodle. I ordered my favorite Caldo De Birria, it used to come in a bowl. It now comes in a fountain drink cup. It was still tasty, but you can no longer stir in the side veggies and might as well use a straw to eat it. Unfortunately it seems like they are going down hill fast. Cutting corners, reducing the portions, and charging more $. I used to highly recommend it to anyone who came in town. Now I'm back on the hunt for a new place to recommend and enjoy. What happened Agave??
Poki Poki - Encinitas
1042 N El Camino Real G, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I was in the area running some errands. Before heading back home, I offered to get lunch for me, my dad, and sister. For some reason I've been craving Poki and when I saw this place, I was like oh that is what I am going to get for lunch. I called to place my order, which was 3 bowls with the whole shibang. It was the my first time ordering from here, so I thought why not go all out. When I was ready to go pick up, I didn't realize the one I called to place an order for was not the location I was thinking I was picking up from. I did not realize this mistake until the workers at the location I was at told me I called the other location. I was appalled. I was driving almost in circles trying to find this location. I had to park and call. Luckily, the location I called the worker was nice and understanding as I wasn't the first person whose gotten confused with the locations. Despite that mix up, the food was delicious. I realized I forgot to ask for extra sauce as I was so frazzled about getting lost. However, getting the whole shibang there was enough flavor that extra sauce was not necessary if you didn't have any. Additionally, the one bowl portion size was very filling. I had leftovers that was eaten over 2 days, and it was still good. This place is recommended if you're craving some Poki.
East Village Asian Diner
628 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
Oh my God this is actually the most amazing and delicious restaurant in San Diego. I was walking by it one day and decided to try it and Im so happy I did.Ive Only gotten the Mongol pot (I think thats what its called) and its so good. All it is is a bunch of vegetables, some meat of your choice (they also have vegan options and you dont even need to order meat), white or brown rice, and an egg. You can also substitute the rice with kale and add or take away anything you want. They serve it in a really hot bowl that keeps the food warm the entire time youre eating it (its what makes the food so delicious). However, you should take their advice and never touch the bowl under any circumstances ever unless you want to burn yourself. Anyways, so on top you can add their sauces and some Sriracha and it all melts together. to be honest Im not even the biggest fan of vegetables but they become so tender and flavorful that it would be a shame to eat the bowl without it.In terms of the restaurant, its very rustic and clean. The waiter that works their is really chill and cool so Ive never had a problem with the service. The price of the bowl is around $9 with no meat and with beef (which is what I highly recommend) its around $14 after taxes. You get so much food and its so delicious that its really worth it in my opinion.Tl;dr If you are looking for a healthy place to eat thats extremely delicious and unique, I highly recommend eating here.
CARiN de RiA
124 W I St, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I had passed by Encinitas a few times and the area seemed to be quite charming with neat shops and restaurants. Im glad I made it a destination yesterday as it was a relaxing environment away from bustling cities to explore the neighborhood. I was craving for Filipino food and was delighted to find CARin de RiA here. The restaurant is located a block off the main street and had both indoor & outdoor dining. I was greeted warmly by the owner, Archie, who provided me with his recommendation between the sisig or kare kare to match with my beer. The sisig came out sizzling hot and was delicious with the side order of garlic rice. It was a different take on this dish, the pork belly was mouth-watering. I loved the decor/ambiance, the genuine hospitality of the owner, and that it was a family-run establishment. It was a very warm environment, Archie took the time at the end to get to know me, chat about the area, and provide local tips and recommendations for the meditation center nearby. Thank-you, Archie!
Everest Himalayan Cuisine, Encinitas, Downtown ...

FOOD TO DREAM ABOUT ! My wife and I love good Indian food and we get even more than that ( Indian, Nepal & Tibet ) at this amazing restaurant. Of course it helps that we know Ishwari the owner from Himalayan Kitchen in Encinitas which he previously founded and co-owned for a number of years. I phoned Ishwari on Friday to make sure we could get a table inside on Saturday at 5pm...no problem Ishwari said. We arrived just before 5pm and parked in the parking lot behind the restaurant.....in the shade and so convenient. Ishwari was very happy to see us..it has been a while as he had been back in Nepal for a few weeks caring for his Dad until recently. We found a table near the front entrance and settled down. Glasses of cool water found their way to our table within seconds courtesy of Ishwari himself. An appetizer of Momo ( dumplings )...4 x Chicken & 4 x Vegetable sounded like a good start. A kind server named Satish brought me an ice cold glass to go with my ice cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale ( not a beer I drink much but quite a refreshingly good beer ). My wife has become addicted to Shrimp Tandoori as of late ( probably after seeing me enjoy it many times here and elsewhere ) while even though I wanted a shrimp dish...I wanted something with a sting in the tail plus rice. Ishwari suggested Shrimp Korma kicked up to about a spicy 5 level ( my suggestion ). Its not even on the menu...hows that for great service ! Oh and we had to have a serve of Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread. Satish our server brought out our Mixed Momo appetizer...so delicate and so yummy. My ice cold pale ale paired perfectly with the dumplings. And then it sounded like fireworks when our mains arrived.....my wifes sensational looking Shrimp Tandoori was still sizzling away as it was placed on the table. Our Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread and my Shrimp Korma incl huge serve of Basmati Rice came out too. My wife was in GOURMET HEAVEN ! Not to be outdone my Shrimp Korma and Basmati Rice blew me away.....with the mouth watering Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread. We pretty much got through everything in front of us...much too good to waste. Before we left for home we ran into our good mate Laxman who had been running the restaurant while Ishwari had been away. Amazing cuisine with top quality ingredients prepared by expert chefs and friendly service that will make you want to come back again and again !
Nectarine Grove
948 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
On the evening of 28NOV18 between 7:20 - 7:35PM, I walked into the Nectarine Grove (NG). I had just left my workplace, received some work emails, and decided to stop by NG to respond prior to heading to workout. As I made my way through the front door one of your employees asked, Are you here from DoorDash? I simply responded by asking, Are you guys open?. Given that NG closes at 8PM, I ordered a glass bottle Yerba Mate (wanted something with a lighter feel and taste than coffee) and added a $1 tip since the order was small. I sat down, opened my computer, and began answering emails. Since I have been to the NG on two previous occasions, my computer automatically remembered NGs WiFi network.Sometime later, the same employee that had asked if I was from DoorDash proceeded to ask if I had purchased something. I showed him the Yerba Mate. He then continued by asking if I was studying to which I responded by stating that I was answering work emails. As my email responses began to come to a halt, he came back again and asked the name of the company I worked for. I pointed to my backpack, which contains the logo of Clinical Research company in San Diego. I think your environment and decor are wonderful (the food is great too!). I also would have willingly purchased meals for the three couples that were sitting in the cafe at the time, if that was what was necessary to make my presence acceptable at NG. After the last encounter, I decided to leave. It was very clear that I was unwelcomed in the environment and it was 7:45PM. (Note: Id like to point out that all other interactions Ive had with your staff have been pleasant.)Why share this narrative of a near insignificant interaction? Because its 2018 and I was racially profiled in a Southern California town with supposed liberal leanings. I relocated from New York about two months ago. Us New Yorkers understand that success comes in various races, sizes, and manifestations. Thats not to say that racism and racial profiling doesnt occur in New York - it occurs everywhere, but there seems to be an air of openness in NY that I especially missed tonight. Im currently looking for a neighborhood in North County to make my permanent home and after tonights interactions, its very clear that the Encinitas/Leucadia neighborhood does not need nor want me. I apologize for having brown skin. I apologize for leaving my hair curled this AM. I apologize for not looking nor fitting the type/mold of your traditional clientele. Be well. Stay well.
