Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors

Tried this restaurant 8 years ago and found it to be very overpriced for the amount of food you receive and the food tasted too sweet. All of it had a strange overwhelming sweetness to it. Tried it again recently, and found the same thing to be true. Only gave it a second chance because we were desperate for Chinese delivery and there werent many options. 1/3 of our order was left out when we received it. We called the store and after putting us on hold 4 times, asked if we could come in and pick it up. That defeats the entire purpose of the expensive delivery and we werent able to do so. Then they offered some sort of store credit or coupon but we were definitely not coming back a third time. What we wanted, was for our money to be refunded for the items we didnt receive. Didnt expect anyone to bring us the rest of our food. They wouldnt do this and told us to take it up with their third party delivery company. The delivery driver did NOT eat our missing food, Pick Up Stix didnt pack it. So we just left it at that instead of causing a problem for our delivery driver. Lost our business permanently.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure to dine in for their 1 year anniversary dinner. Chef Nate Horton served us some of his best Japanese-Mexican infused cuisine. For the dinner feast, we had their welcome drinks, which was delicious! He started off by serving us the wagyu eggrolls, blistered shishitos, fried calamari, and bruesselsprouts, which all of it tasted great! Next, we had the izakayasliders (my favorite of the night), mushroom karrage (which we thought was a little too salty), and the duck fried rice (the duck was too dry for us). Lastly, he served us albondigyus, austrialian NY steak, and we had pre-ordered the 3lb wagyu. Overall, this experience was wonderful and such a pleasure to be served by the chef. Most of the time, we dont see them. However, disappointed that they told us we were done when we didnt get the dessert, which was included in the dinner feast. First, the server said chef is making some browning with miso ice cream, then he told us they didnt have brownie and gave us some ice cream. You think with such an elegant place, they would serve you a more delicate dessert. However, I have great experience and would recommend trying !
Midas

Midas La Mesa changed my oil on March 9, 2021. On March 11, 2021 my vehicles engine light came on. In addition, my vehicle was running odd after the service. I called the shop and advised them of the situation as soon as the light came on. They asked me to bring my vehicle in. Manuel L., the service adviser hooked up a scan tool and showed me that there was oxygen sensor codes and MAF sensor code. I advised him that I have never had any issues with my vehicle until after they performed the oil change. I also told him that I purchased my vehicle brand new in 2018 and have kept it well maintained. He told me there is nothing they could have done to cause this. That this was simply a coincidence. I expressed that they need to see whats wrong as my vehicle was running well before I brought it in. Reiterating, that I have never had any sort of check engine light or issues with my vehicle. Manuel L. then told me that this is a coincidence AND if I want them to conduct a diagnosis, it will cost me their hourly rate. This is unacceptable. Midas La Mesa needs to take some responsibility for this. I had a perfectly running vehicle, no leaks, no vibration, etc. I am not a happy customer. Now I am having to take my vehicle to Bob Stall Chevrolet (nearest Chevrolet Dealer to me) to see what is wrong with my car. Which has a cost of $170. Midas La Mesa is more than capable of doing the diagnostic themselves. That is why I took it back to them. They were the last to work on my vehicle before issues followed. Manuel L. was not apologetic or even entertaining the fact that they had anything to do with this. But yet, they do a Midas Courtesy Check of your vehicle and you can clearly see that the air filter was removed as it is imaged on the report. They were under the hood checking fluids, etc. They could have at least checked the areas they had put their hands on. Put it on the lift for any obvious signs of cause. This could be as simple as the air filter not being reset properly. Such a shame! NEVER USING THEM AGAIN!
Chopsticks Inn Restaurant

We fell in love with this place. The owner is also the server and hostess. The food is expertly prepared and served. He will also customise a meal for you based on your likes. The dim sum is the best I have ever had. The service was impeccable, we were treated as if we were the only ones in the restaurant. I highly recommend it. It is a Pan Asian, meaning it has Chinese,Thai, Japanese and Laotian and a few others. Wonderful cozy place.
China Super Buffet

Like any place, this one has its pros and cons. Its been one of my neighborhood go-to spots since they first opened their doors, and they were worth 5 stars across the board for many many years, but I believe their massive popularity sadly changed all that in the last 5-7 yrs. My current rating is solely based on my most recent experience last week for dinner at 5pm on a Sunday.Food: I always start w/soup & sushi, and both were as great as ever. I would even add that their new sushi chef is a wonderful woman, who graciously pointed out that shed just made a fresh new platter of the roll I was about to serve myself. ?? By contrast, however, many of the dishes at the buffet were the opposite of fresh, and had clearly been sitting there drying up since the lunch crowd left. Most notably was the Coconut Shrimp, which was like little coconut fried rocks. ?? The same could be said for the half-shell mussels and the green beans. ??SERVICE: Great, as always. ??PRICE: Went up in the last month. Unfortunate, for sure, but given how inflation has hit every aspect of life, I guess it was to be expected. ?ATMOSPHERE: This has consistently gone way down. Admittedly though, its thanks to the declining quality of customers who have, among other things, trashed the bathrooms and ruined the once pleasant ambience. That said, however, the proprietors have some blame as well, and the large screen tv forever on a sports channel is certainly part of it. On this occasion though, their tv had competition, as customers were watching their own shows on their own gadgets at full volume. Unreal, but thats the world we live in today. ? ?? Gone are the days of a relaxing, delicious and reasonably priced meal at what once was my favorite Chinese buffet. Sad.
