I Shanghai Delight

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the dining dexperience my family and I had at 阿拉上海 I Shanghai Delight in Fremont earlier today. At approximately 1:10 PM, my family, including my mom ,husband and my 5-year-old daughter, arrived at 阿拉上海 I Shanghai Delight and joined the queue for a table. Despite being number 26 in line, I diligently monitored the seating arrangements, eager to expedite our meal to accommodate my tired daughter who was in need of rest.Around 1:40 PM, I noticed that tables numbered 24 and 25 were seated, followed by a group of four leaving their table. Anticipating that we would be next in line for the vacant table, I approached a passing server to inform her of our number. However, to my dismay, she brushed off my request, stating, We will arrange it shortly, before seating an unnumbered party who had just arrived.Subsequently, another server proceeded to call out number 27, completely disregarding our rightful place in the queue. When I questioned why we were being overlooked, the response I received was dismissive, with the server suggesting we could share a table without even asking if we were willing to do so.Feeling aggrieved by this blatant disregard for proper queue management and customer service, I immediately approached the front desk to voice my concerns. To my astonishment, I was informed that the party who had jumped the queue were relatives of the staff. This revelation only compounded our frustration and disappointment. As loyal patrons of 阿拉上海 I Shanghai Delight, my family and I have frequented your establishment for a significant portion of our dining outings. However, following todays incident, it saddens me to say that we will no longer be patronizing your restaurant. The lack of respect for customers time and the preferential treatment afforded to acquaintances over paying patrons is unacceptable and tarnishes the reputation of your establishment.I hope that this feedback will prompt you to review and rectify the flaws in your service and management practices to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.

TL; DR: Dont go in with hungry stomach, you get all your food at once after every tables around you get their food in order.------Edit: just read some reviews, and just realized the owner/manager seems to be a bit delusional? Not every low-star reviews are aimed to destroy you/your business, nor from any competitors. Also, they seem to be unable to handle criticism.------Soup dumplings are aight, not super good but not bad at all...No wait to go in coz there were only 4 parties including us, but definitely not worth the wait though. We noticed that they got all their food in order, finished and left. It took us probably at least 30 minutes for 6-XLB to come out, and another 5-10 minutes for the Fried Pork Bun to come out.No high-chairs accommodate my toddlers, so its also hard to keep the hungry kids to sit still; no servers to check in with us, and they literally only run the food to tables. Meanwhile, the owner-looking guy checked in twice but mostly chatting with other customers. The vibe is manga, Japanese music/midi blasting. Its special but Im not a fan of it. Just makes me question the authentication of the food quality...

Old Taro

Do you want some amazingly delicious Taiwanese food? Are you willing to put up with a restaurant with a rather inefficient order/pickup setup? If you said yes to both, then Old Taro is the place to go!Back when Old Taro was located on Thornton, they were my go-to for a solid and delicious pork chop rice plate. The pork would be juicy yet crispy, and the stewed meat that adorned the rice was just the right amount of savory without being too salty.Recently, I ordered a bunch of rice balls and bento boxes for a picnic. While I didnt eat any of the bento boxes, the original-style and the original-style-with-egg were amazing. The chinese donut in the middle was crunchy, there was enough pork floss to provide texture without being dry to chew through, and the layer of the rice wrapping everything wasnt too thick. The chinese sausage version of the rice ball went a little bit overboard with the pickled mustard greens, however. I do regret not getting some soymilk to go with the rice balls; it wouldve really completed the Taiwanese breakfast set.As efficient as the single staff member manning the desk inside the store is, though, the one-line approach means that ordering ahead (either by commenting on their Friday and Saturday Facebook posts or by calling ahead) doesnt actually save you all that much time. Just keep that in mind if time is of the essence. If you need vegetarian options, some of the dishes can be modified -- their fish bento box can be pescatarian-friendly (the stewed egg in the box is stewed with pork but lives in its own compartment, however), and their standard rice balls can be made without pork floss. But generally speaking, its not a vegetarian-friendly restaurant.Credit card payments are subject to a 4% surcharge, cash isnt. At their old location, debit was accepted without a surcharge, but that may not be the case anymore, as their previous location didnt accept credit cards.
