Thien An Bo 7 Mon Restaurant
9862 Westminster Blvd. B, Garden Grove, CA 92844, United States
Huge place serving Vietnamese Bo 7 mon, 7 courses of beef, which were originally derived from French dishes. Its open for dinner only on weekdays, add lunch for Fri-Sunday.The pace is nice, clean, spacious. Friday lunch there were only 3 other parties or about 20% occupied. Each 7 course serving is now $32 with enough food for 2 people. Baked cat fish dishes are also in the menu. Beers and wines are $5-6.Meats cooked 7 ways are served with rice paper, lettuce, herbs, pickles, to be rolled into spring rolls and dipped in fish or anchovies sauce, which are very tasty.Meat portions are small, but all 7 dishes were better and tastier than those served by the now-defunct Anh Hong and Pagolac:1. Beef and shrimp salad2. Top round hot pot3. Top round grilled4. Grilled ground beef in betel leaf5. Grilled ground beef in beef fat6. Steamed ground beef loaf7. Rice beef soup, very rich and tasty1 serving lunch for 2 people costed $44 before tip. Its hard to compete against various Korean BBQs and hot pots in OC serving lunch for $22 and dinner $29 with AYCE rib eye, brisket, ribs.Vietnamese Bo 7 Mon is more like a long, slow, formal dinner, where clients have to roll their own spring rolls, which can be messy. It has not caught on with a large clientele base in mainstream So Cal, likely due to price points, limited menu, beef being the only main ingredients, and the messy work required to cook and eat it. Major venues in So Cal struggled for decades and went out of business. This location used to be Hong An, taken over by Thien An, now returned to the original owner, who operates another Thien An in Rosemead. The 2 Thien Ans on Harbor and Bolsa are original, now operated by 2 cousins. Does not look like they are doing booming business. There may be a market for selling each dish as a single serving, for pick up with lower overhead, in the range of $7-12.We are unlikely to come back.

Troi oi. My mom told me about this place months ago, but the plaza was always kind of barren and I never stopped by. This place is a hidden gem - a hole in the wall to the core. Their bun tuoi is the PERFECT noodle for bun bo hue. I am never using the dried packaged ones again!! Never!!I also got their banh canh noodles. Everything is freshly made and I think they mainly cater to restaurants, but its so nice they have a storefront for regular customers. The ladies are so sweet - they also sell some foods like chao, xoi, etc but you can tell the noodles are their expertise. Also, Im pretty sure theyre behind the noodles for one of the best restaurants in OC because the texture is close, if not exactly the same.Just leaving this review bc I hope they keep this place alive for a long time to come.

They close at 3 AM on Friday/Sat and 2 AM otherwise. Thats crazy!CASH only.We were lucky to roll in at 11 pm with no wait although the tables were pretty packed. After promptly handing us menus, we were given free herbal teas. Yum!Theyre also very good with refills too.Our table got:House Special Egg Noodle (dry)House Special Rice Noodle (both broth and dry)Rare Beef with Egg Noodle (broth)I personally got the one with the broth because I like soup, but the dry option looked really delicious too! They add a flavorful sauce at the bottom of the dry option, and the house special consists of having bbq pork, veggies, half an egg, chicken, fish cake. The Beef noodle soup was essentially pho but with egg noodle. All regular bowls are $6.45 and large bowls are $6.95Insanely good deal. The broth might be a little salty so ask for lime to squeeze in.

Probably one of the few, traditional style Vietnamese restaurants out there that provided surprisingly amazing service that was thoughtful, considerate, and warm-welcoming; not to mention the food was delicious and did not feel heavy on the MSG. Additionally, as locals all know, the addition of free Nouc Mat (translated literally as liquid of refreshment and is a sugarcane pressed beverage), was just icing on the cake; all things considered, especially with how awesome our server was.I had the Bò lúc lắc, which is the stir fry filet mignon, had a nice savory sauce that adhered to the beef in just the right amount, avoiding any judgements of being too saucy and flavored the beef just right to be enjoyed with the optional crispy rice (alternative to regular steam rice). Although it may be said the rice was a bit heavy handed, there was also plenty of beef to go alongside it which just makes it a great value. The story fry combination rice noodle had great flavor and was slightly too light for my heavier sodium tastes but for an average person Id guess its just right. From beginning to end, we were fortunate to come at a slower time and, while this place is known to be extremely crowded at peak hours and pre-COVID that meant lots of bodies stuffed into a tightly packed, crowded room, the now available outside dining tables provided a roomy, spacious, and under appreciated level of comfort, sort of dining environment, for enjoying our late lunch on a bright spring day. It was almost as if we were sitting at a mid-scale restaurants outdoor patio seating as maybe seen in rural parts of Vietnam.

We were having a BAD experience at this Pho restaurant and poor service quality. First of all, we arrived first, sat at the table first and ordered before the next table for a long time. But then the server brought food to the next table before us. I could see that he had brought our food to them by mistake, by the expressions on the faces of the customers next to us. They were confused but still ate what was supposed to be ours. Then he brought out our food, of course, a lot of things were missing in it. My friends wanted special pho with large noodles and a bowl of rich/fatty broth, but they forgot and we expected that by observing what they were doing, so not really surprised. They are very UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL towards customers, as we did not receive a single apology after all, at least after he brought the wrong food there should have been an apology for the omission to their customers, but there was also no apology and his attitude was very superficial. Besides that, I did notice that the guests at the table next to us were brought water when they all finished eating. Anyways so many aspects to speak up about their lack of professionalism.

Vientiane Lao Thai Restaurant

Solid Laotian food at affordable prices. This place used to be a hole-in-the-wall with only a handful of tables. Now, everyone knows about it thanks to word of mouth and Yelp.I sat with a regular who came in just for beer. He told me that to keep up with the demand, Vientiane doubled the size of their dining area several years ago. The place has become so popular that they even have the guts to charge 19% gratuity for parties of 10 or more.Kao poon: Laotian rice noodle soup with a heavy coconut milk broth. Unlike the khao soi, a popular soup noodle trending in Thai restaurants recently, the kao poon is a much more mild dish. The broth is neither heavily spiced nor overbearingly sour, instead it tastes split between sweet and tangy. Most of the spiciness is produced from the galangal, but with low intensity, as it is covered up by the generous amount of coconut milk added. The broth is somewhat thick and silky, leading me to believe some coconut cream is used in the kao poon. The other half of the kao poon are the thin rice noodles that soaks up the rich coconut broth. I chose fish as the topping. It was served in pounded form (I guess thats the local Lao prep) that drowned in the broth and was not remarkable. The kao poon was accompanied with a tray of banana blossoms, dried mints, and cabbage, a similar set to what is served with Vietnamese bun bo hue.Kao poon was hearty and flavorful, but I would probably skip it since noodles in a cloying broth is not my thing. I didnt feel like the ingredients meshed with a sweet broth. I personally prefer the khao soi more for its spicier soup base, and I would rather eat soup noodle with a chicken leg than pounded meat.Sai oua: Laotian pork sausages served with a fiery nam prik dipping sauce is Vientianes bread and butter specialty. From what I observed, Vientiane sources sausages which undergo a fermentation process. As I understand, the fermentation is to develop the sausages sour flavor and soft interior texture.Vientiane chefs grill the sausages on point, the exterior is made crisp before served. It was perfect. The nam prik blend was a few notches less fiery than expected (probably 7/10 spice level, less intimidating than it appears), instead it was just extremely pungent with a hint of sweetness. This dipping sauce was somewhat aggravating to the tongue, I liked it. In addition to Thai chili, there was definitely a generous amount of fish sauce and garlic added in the nam prik. Its strong savory flavors paired very well with the grilled pork sausages. I think that the sausage is a must-order at Vientiane. If you like the nam prik, Vientiane stocks a few varieties in the beverage refrigerator for customers to purchase. The last time I checked into Vientiane, it was crowded even on a weekday. I dont think it is still an unknown hole in the wall anymore. If you havent yet, go check out Vientiane Thao-Laos before you become the last Yelper to try excellent Laotian food in Orange County.

D Thai Chinese Restaurant

I love this place! The food is great! My go to dishes are the Stir Fry Chili and Mint with Ground Pork and add a Fried Egg on top, the Pad See-Ew with Extra Chinese Broccoli, or the Pad Woon Sen. Occasionally I get the Curry Chicken, Curry Fish or the Chicken Chop Suey, but I have tried a lot of the menu and have never been disappointed. its like home cooked dining! Its run by one lady, she answers the phone, waits on the tables, serves, cleans, and cooks! She does it all, but because of this your dining experience could take a while, and she is very busy all the time! However, the reason she is busy is because the food is awesome and she is so nice! She cares very much about her customers, especially if you are a regular.Im lucky in that I work nearby so we come here about once a week. Like I said, highly recommended!

Great food, horrible service. I have been craving shellfish for awhile now but coming from Dallas, TX there arent many good options for it, especially cooked in a vietnamese fashion. This place had ALL the great shellfish options, I mean look at the name of this place, its literally called shellfish and hotpot. Anyway, I wouldve given it a 5-star rating butttttttt the service wasnt very great. It started off great, we were seated pretty quickly but when the food was served, the waiters didnt even try to put it in the center of the table. They would put it right in front of one of us even though we were eating. This food is obviously family styled, so it needs to go in the center of the table. Another thing with that got on my nerves at the beginning was when I was obviously doing something and they wanted to put the food right in front of me but they had the whole other side of the table to place the food down, I had to tell him to do it; they were lacking common sense. Something that was weird to me was that they want you to order at once, if you order an appetizer and want to order something afterwards they said it would take longer for it to get out. Weird. Also, they were out of razor clams, one of the main things I was craving. lame.

Seafood Cove 2
9211 Bolsa Ave, Westminster, CA 92683, United States
We are huge dim sum lovers, not just hubby and i but both families also love it. We can probably eat dim sum once a week if given the chance. Unfortunately for us since we live in SD and the closest thing to excellent dim sum we had was China Max. I say had because China Max burned down last year in an overnight fire, around when the pandemic had started and lockdowns were going into effect. Ever since that devastating day we not only lost a great restaurant but weve not been able to find a good dim sum place since then. Their dim sum was the best, even better than Jasmine or Emerald. And although Fung Fung Yuen had opened as dim sum restaurant pre-covid, they were just mediocre. Here is where Seafood Cove 2 comes in. We travel up to LA about once a month to visit our in-laws, and quite a few times weve done dim sum takeout while there but my brother-in-law was the one who always brought it. We didnt know from where and decided to ask and he told us that Seafood Cove 2 was the absolute best place you could go for dim sum in LA. Well he wasnt wrong because on our next trip up there hubby and i decided we should try it for ourselves. We dined in for the first time in a year and a half since the pandemic started and were able to get a nice corner table far away from anyone else. Service was great! Everyone there was polite. We walked in and there is a lady standing at the podium taking names and party numbers and then you are either directed to wait outside or taken inside to have a seat. All of this depends on how busy they are when you walk in. We were lucky enough to have gone early enough that we were taken to a table right away.Once you sit down you are not given a menu, you are instead told to scan the QR code on the wall with your phone and the menu will show up there. We did just that and while we were browsing a server came up and gave us tea, and napkins. We were approached by servers four times asking if we were ready but we took a little longer than expected so we asked them to wait a little bit and they did. After we ordered everything came within 5 minutes and the dishes were piping hot and fresh. We ordered: Shu Mai, Har Gow, Chicken Feet, Turnip Cake, Stewed Beef Tripe with pork blood, and Spare ribs in black bean sauce. To say that everything was delicious is an understatement. Everything i tasted was just amazing. Melt in your mouth, hot, crispy, soft, juicy....you name it, it was there. The turnip cake and shu mai were my absolute favorite. The turnip cake was fried just right that it was crispy on the otuside and soft on the inside, while the shu mai just tasted straight up amazing. For me the food was on par with China Max if not better, and definitely 100s of times better than any other dim sum restaurant ive tried down here in SD. And yes, we tried Golden Island what Fung Fung Yuen became after their remodel and their dim sum was not only more expensive but everything tasted awful.Seafood Cove 2 is extremely popular and i can understand why. I remember when i saw it for the first time and didnt know that it was a dim sum restaurant i was stunned because there was a huge line outside. While they are famous for their dim sum they also have other dishes they offer like baked/fried catfish, crab soup, lobster specialty (like tang cangs), shrimp, fried rice, noodle...etc. I cant speak on their other dishes but we tried from their dim sum menu was wonderful and will happily be back again just for that.
