China Jos
78550 CA-111, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
If I could give it zero stars, I would. I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants across the country, since I love good Chinese food, and this is the worst one I have ever been in. First of all, we were completely ignored when we walked in. After standing there for a while, I went over to the counter and asked the woman if we could sit anywhere, and she begrudgingly said yes. No other information or welcoming words. We then sat for another 10-15 minutes, waiting for a server. I then got up again and walked over to the unwelcoming, mis emotional and angry woman behind the counter and asked if we needed to order at the counter, and she begrudgingly said yes again. Well, thanks for letting us know! I placed our order of General Tsos chicken and Kung Pao chicken (which was not easy since she barely spoke any English, and couldnt understand that we wanted green peppers with the General Tsos chicken). Well, after another good 20 minutes or so, she yelled 21 and I went to get the food at the counter, which of course was incorrect and not what I had ordered. She had green pepper beef in with the General Tsos chicken. She had not understood what was said, obviously. I took it anyway since we just wanted to get out of there at that point. The General Tsos Chicken and the Green Pepper beef were barely okay. Pretty bland but at least edible. But the Kung Pao chicken was horrible. I could barely recognize any of the meat being chicken and I basically left most of it. It was pieces of meat from something, but I couldnt tell what. It was not edible. I just ate the rice and most of the vegetables. Anyway, needless to say, were never coming back to this place, and I would recommend you do the same.

Beautiful Day
50949 Washington St STE 1A, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Sadly our “Beautiful Day” turned into a miserable experience. We have frequented this quaint little restaurant on a number of occasions - never encountering great service, however the food has always made up for it. Today, on the other hand, we arrived and much to our surprise there were only a couple of tables seated with guests - as we decided what we would have for breakfast - our server took our order. As she repeated back our order, we noticed a party of 10 arriving for their reservation. My husband and I, along with our server concurred that we were getting our order in “just in the nick of time.”As we sat enjoying our beverages, we realized quite some time had passed - shortly there after, we noticed the table of 10 were all receiving their meals. In addition, two other parties that came in after us also received their breakfast. Our server realized that our food never came and checked in with the kitchen - she apologized that a portion of our order had to be “remade” — and we were gracious and accepting of that information. She came by a second time and said that our food was “being plated” - but 10 minutes later we still never received our food.Granted, accidents happen and nobody is perfect …. perhaps our order never got placed. And while our server was courteous, there did not seem to be any leadership involvement. Many people standing around, but no one seems to be in charge—or at least no one approached us to try and make it right. Rather than a proactive approach to providing excellent service, the strategy seemed to be to pretend it never happened. Over 45 minutes after our order was placed, we still had no food, and no servers anywhere in sight—so we got up and left.Having good food is important, but you also need to treat your customers right if you want them to return. And where is the management?

Pokehana
78742 CA-111 Suite A, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Pokehana is an interesting higher end concept of making your own Japanese bowl a la carte. You pick your rice, protein, vegies, sauces, toppings, etc...all with strong Asian flavors so they all blend together exceptionally well. (Basically you cant go wrong regardless of your selections.)The ingredients were clearly fresh and perfect for a Sushi type bowl (I had the Salmon and Ahi tuna)...the rice spot on. The addons (edamame, garlic aioli, seaweed salad) also were absolutely delicious! The service was exceptional from an experienced, very pleasant and congenial hostess who provided her recommendations on what to try that I took, as I am prone to try what is recommended to me! (most of the time)While I probably couldnt have it every day, as looks are deceiving in that it is really a *lot* of food packed into one bowl, for an occasional change of pace for something unique and favorable...I would say to totally give it a try!

Basil Thai
50855 Washington St, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Finally, an authentic Thai restaurant in La Quinta! We saw news about this opening up recently and we live nearby - finally got to eat here on the weekend. But Im not here to talk about competitors. Im here to talk about a fabulous new restaurant in LQ - in the cove/old town area. Basil Thai! It sits between a Chinese and Mexican restaurant in a small space. I think it has a total of 4 or 5 booths and 4 bar stools to sit in. Framed photograph/posters are mounted along the walls depicting scenes from Thailand. Ive never been, but my partner had and loved the atmosphere. Fixtures are new.Business was super slow and the place had one server and at least one person cooking, so we were surprised at how fast the food came out after ordering. We order the basic Pad Thai and Panang Curry with chicken. We also had a cup of Tom Ka Kai. Later the server brought out some sauces (one home made) to add, after my partner asked for it. The home made one was HOT but very yummy. Actually, ALL the dishes were delicious and my partners quest for the taste of Thailand as she had it in Chang Mai years ago, was fulfilled. Both of us were really happy we ate here.We ordered from the lunch menu which is cheaper than the regular menu. (Lunch average cost was $13.99 a dish) Portion size is about what we expected. Not too big, but not too small either. We still ended up being stuffed. Rice will do that to you.I love the location and hope they become busy enough to stay there. We plan to visit at least once a month as a treat to ourselves and slowly eat our way through the entire menu.

Okura Robata Grill & Sushi Bar
78480 CA-111, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
I have been coming to Okura for more than a decade. The sushi is always phenomenal. We dont live in the area, but we have family out here so we like to stop by when were here. We also used to visit their Laguna Beach sister store before it closed down. Last night was pretty disappointing. We had not been to the new location yet and decided to come see it and eat some great sushi. We had a reservation at 5pm and we were seated within about 5 to 10 minutes of checking in. No problem, they were clearly busy. For ordering... First off, no more all you can eat sushi. A little disappointing, but given the environment and the closing of the other location, I get it. The per roll pricing also looks like it went up a few bucks a roll since we came here last. Again no prob, still more than happy to buy a few $20 rolls. You only live once, so spend the $100 on great sushi. We ordered about 10 minutes after being seated (maybe 5:25), 4 rolls and carpaccio. Our two family members ordered tempura and skewers as meals. The tempura was brought out immediately, like less than ten minutes after ordering. Great, weird that that family member had to basically eat dinner alone but okay. 5-10 minutes later the skewers came out. Now that family member was eating alone. Then nothing came out for a long time. Finally the server noticed and went back to at least grab our carpaccio. He brought that out at maybe 6pm and said the sushi would be right out. At this point, were starving and frustrated. We asked any busser walking by if they knew where our food was and finally asked about cancelling it. Then it all of a sudden showed up at 6:12, more than 45 minutes after ordering it. Honestly, other two tables seated after us got their sushi well before us.I have no idea what the issue was. So when we asked what the heck was going on, the gentleman that brought the sushi said theyd grab a manager and very sincerely apologized. It should be noted the bussers/expediters were great and very efficient. Manager never came though. Asked another busser about 15min later (because our server was pretty absent most the meal), and that was when we learned our server WAS the manager. Throughout the night we watched the server/manager wander back and forth staring his tablet in our area. He didnt check on tables unless we flagged him down which was easier said than done. Literally every table was throwing a hand in the air every so often trying to get his attention because he was not checking in with tables. Beyond the fact that his service was deplorable, you should not have managers waiting tables for this exact reason (not his skill set and now no one is managing). When he finally brought us the bill, we asked has anyone told you that weve had an issue with service tonight. He said yes, but then didnt really provide an answer as to the issues they were facing or why after being notified he never came over. He did end up comping a percentage of our meal, which was nice but not necessary as again we were fully prepared to pay for our food. It would have just been nice to understand what the problem was. I understand restaurants are facing staffing problems, but at least in this case that didnt seem to be an issue. There were tons of employees. We all clearly ordered our food as meals and yet all had to eat separately over the span of an hour. Will I come back? Yes, but literally only because the food is amazing. Honestly next time maybe well just get it to go and bypass the service all together. Hopefully they can get it together and bring it back to the level of service it had in the smaller location.

The restaurant is very small, clean, our order came out and looked delicious.. and it WAS... Downside...there was a horrible odor u can smell as u walk into be seated...but it gets worse as u get seated (which is very close to the kitchen & bathtooms)Unfortunately, my husband had to use the facilities and when he returned to our table, he told me of a nasty smell and mess in the restroom...maybe thats what we were smelling when we walked in?#1) Food was Excellent#2) Sanitation was extremely questionable#3) Lady at register..(possible owner) rude as all heck!!This spot is questionable...I guess we will see if we get sick....

You Grill Korean BBQ
79680 CA-111 STE 102, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Came here for dinner. Around 4p, not even busy. We walked in and they said we could sit anywhere and walked away from us. So we walked over to a table and sat ourselves. I went over to them and asked if the table we chose was OK and they said yes. Shortly after, we received our sides and we waited. No one came but they kept looking over at our table. A few mins later couple walks in & they get walked to their table and seated near us, we continue to wait and a few mins later ANOTHER couple walks in and they are also walked to their table and seated near us. The couple after us gets their order taken, and the other servers continue to look over at our table. The second couple then get their order taken. At that point we decide to leave. I go up to the hostess and tell her that 2 tables that got seated after us are getting their order taken and we havent even been helped. She doesnt even let me finish before she starts cutting me off and talking over me and repeatedly telling me I dont think the server is aware I realize shes not going to let me talk so I tell her were leaving. Ive never had a bad experience here before and this totally sounds made up. Like we were being ignored purposly but this experience is real! Im surprised because we really like this place and again, we have never had a bad experience here.  I hope to go back but not anytime soon. There always busy so they wont miss us, I know. But its just sucks to be treated like that.

Pho Vu
79630 CA-111 #103, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Wow, absolutely amazing food hereThe freshness was everything!I ordered the pho chay off the vegetarian menu. (Rice noodles, tofu, vegetables & broth, & some mushrooms)They brought out a plate for our table with fresh bean sprouts, fresh Thai basil, limes, and jalenpenos for each person to spice up their pho dishes to their liking. The jalenpeno was awesome bc you can have bites of spice if u wanted without making the whole bowl spicyI squeezed the limes in my bowl & dropped them in to stew as I ateBasil is my favorite herb so of course that was a highlight for my senses& the bean sprouts give that added fresh crunch and health benefitsI loved the mini bok choy in the soup a lotI added some of the table chili paste for extra flavor and was not disappointedAnd as you sip ur broth down the flavor gets better n better towards the bottomThe table has chopsticks & soup spoons already equipped for ease of diningI absolutely recommend you eat hereHigh quality flavor, ingredients and staff?Perfect amount of food for me, I'm filled and gratefulThey have really good salad tooWish I took a pic at the beginning but the one I took captured the meal as I was in full flavor town

Torakichi Ramen - La Quinta
79775 HWY111 STE104&105, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
The ramen here is amazing. They have vegan ramen and vegan appitizers which are all delicious. I love that you can add in extras too. I always get the extra tofu and spicy oil. They usually only have 2 servers running the whole restaurant and it gets busy, but they are amazing.

Soul of China
50855 Washington St #2-F, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Delicious food! We had vegetarians and meat eaters and everyone left happy. There is a reason the Grubhub reviews are 5/5. The food! The Orange tofu was the best we’ve ever had. Very crispy on the outside and soft inside.Vegans and Vegetarians will love this place. My husband got a garlic fish dish that he loved as well.We dined in, but noticed most people order it to go. It’s definitely an old school vibe. Not modern decor. Not really a first date place.Staff was super friendly.Cute mom and pop restaurant. Support small business while eating delicious Chinese food.
