Fortune House
1627 Main St, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
I visited from SD and asked my local friends where to go for lunch. Mexican or Chinese? They swore by this place and I wasnt impressed. Lunch: they ordered combo plates that were huge and served promptly. I ordered Salt and Pepper chicken wings (1/2 order for lunch). All is well, then a waiter told me that cant do half, they can only do full ($11.95). Sure, just do the food. My friends got their orders and I drooled with nothing. After ten minutes of trying to flag down a waiter, my food eventually showed up. Very disappointing. The wings looked like I went to a cheap grocery store and tried to imitate Chinese salt and pepper wings. Small wings, average seasoning and just not a good experience. I would be will to chalk it up to just one of those bad lunch experiences.

Today was my first visit to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend.Im a big fan of chicken fried steak and eggs. This place did an awesome job making the dish. The chicken fried steak was prepared fresh and was topped with white country gravy. I chose hash browns over the other options available. For my toast option I chose the English muffin; buttered of course. I also ordered one single pancake not knowing how much food would be served. The portions are large, tasty and filling. I ordered ice tea for my beverage. One thing I liked was that they provide a carafe of additional iced tea to pour your own refills. Total review: no negatives
Lettys Casita

You guys. This food is good, real good. I recommend trying it. Vegetarian gringa from Tucson here - got the chili relleno plate, quesadilla and horchata to go on our drive to San Diego, and Im so glad we did. Yummy tortillas. The restaurant (and bathroom) is clean and not far off I8. Quick and friendly service.
Sammies Restaurant
2517 El Centro Blvd, Nicolaus, CA 95659, United States
Before today I would have left Sammies a 5 star review. We are regulars customers and locals. We talk with the owner all the time and he has always gone above and beyond with his customer service. The long wait times and issues others complained about never bothered me, because of the kindness and servitude I received previously. Today that changed unfortunately.. we ordered two large guacs and chips. What we order regularly. The owner directly told us he doesnt sell that there which he does we get it often but thats okay maybe he stopped selling it. Then he says he can sell it to us for twenty whopping dollars.. so we buy it. He only filled it halfway. At this point I was very angry. I look in the bag to find only one small bag of chips. Word of mouth will get around when you treat people badly youre gonna lose your customers. Overall he was very rude and charged us way too much and skimped on the food. This has never happened here beforeeveryone who works here including the owner has always been so kind and helpful. Im not sure if today was an off day for his but I wont forget this. There was a time I ran out of ranch at home and he gave us a huge thing of ranch for a good price.. thats the reason I always supported his business I have my entire family go here and tell people who come into my work about them. My words wont be so kind any more. He has lost a family of regulars we wont be going there anymore and we spend at least 100 bucks a month there in effort to help keep local businesses . At the very least. Customer service matters and when your a small business its everything. Very disappointed.
Burgers & Beer
260 N Imperial Ave #2325, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
This used to be a great family restaurant. Its still good food, but now its pretty overpriced and doesnt have many options if you are vegetarian. Even worse if you are vegan, because they have only fries for you and some salads, but they dont know if their dressings are are vegan. The wait staff doesnt know much if you ask about ingredients either and forget to check on your table regularly.
Farmer Boys
1532 Cruickshank Dr, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
After my 4th meal here, breakfast and dinner, I can confidently say everything has been great. The staff are kind and Ive not had to circle the whole dining room to find a clean table. The fried zucchini is astounding! Its as long as my forearm and since the pieces are so thick (a zucchini is just cut lengthwise in 4ths lol) it doesnt end up overcooked, and still has perfect texture. I dont know what oil they deep fry in but it doesnt overpower the taste of the vegetable, wow. The part-cornmeal breading has a perfect crunch, and doesnt sweat off. The fries are also cooked perfectly. The shakes taste like real, creamy, ice cream (+whipped cream!), and are thoroughly & evenly blended to a consistent texture. Awesome.Breakfast was great, with ample servings and eggs that werent overcooked. The chicken was out of stock when I tried to order the spicy chicken sandwich, but the burgers are very good. I have found that the sauces arent always evenly spread, twice I had a half dry sandwich until I found the pile of thousand island. Thats a bummer. I also found the avocado to be too old for my tastes, and wiped it off my burger after paying extra for it.I love that ALL the seating in the dining room is padded. The tables are generously spaced, so theres enough room to walk around without having to make contact with other patrons. The bathroom has been stocked and reasonably clean every time Ive used it, also the hand soap smells nice (whaaat?!?! A miracle!).The parking lot is in rough shape (like most of El Centro) and parking can be iffy when theyre busy, particularly because they direct the drive-through line through parking spots. Im not from around here, and not familiar with these restaurant chains. Im elated Ive learned never to mess with Rallys again, what a miserable waste that was when Farmer Boys is an option!
Hampton Inn El Centro
598 Wake Ave, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
In terms of the building itself, this Hampton is a lot newer/nicer than ones Ive stayed it in the past. The staff here have also been very friendly and welcoming.Unfortunately theres a lot of problems here too. For one, this hotel apparently also serves as a barracks for loud and disorderly military personnel who I guess are stationed at one of the myriad military bases around here. They shout at the top of their lungs and slam doors all night, every night, so I can never get a good nights sleep. As soon as they check out, another group checks in. The noise never stops. I am here for work and have to get up at 4 AM, so this is a huge problem for me.Housekeeping and kitchen staff also speak little or no English so communicating with them is difficult, and they dont seem to be very well trained (or trained at all). On my first week one of the housekeepers tossed out my toothpaste and all of my receipts which I needed for my expense reports, despite this being against Hampton Inns policy (the policy is that they should only throw away things that are in the trash). It was the first time something like this ever happened to me at a Hampton Inn. I talked to the front desk about it and fortunately it hasnt happened since they apparently re-trained them, but there are still other problems.Theres a problem with guests cross-contaminating food in the kitchen. This is a problem Ive had at other Hamptons but have never seen addressed, despite the fact that Hampton has a policy that if a guest has special dietary needs, they will try their best to accommodate them. I have special dietary restrictions and cannot eat the meat that is served here.I routinely see guests using the same serving utensils for different foods, even though they set out a separate spoon/tongs for the eggs, meat and potatoes, respectively. To make matters worse, sometimes the staff do not align the utensils properly with their respective plates/signs so some guests get confused and might think that the serving spoon for eggs is for meat, for example.I talked about the food contamination issue with the front desk and suggested they put a sign up asking guests to be considerate and not cross contaminate items by using the designated utensils for each dish. I was told theyd make a sign right away, but a week later there is still no sign and when I brought it up to the front desk again, they just gave me a generic response and didnt do anything. The cross contamination issue is a big problem for people with dietary restrictions due to religious beliefs and food allergies. The latter could easily result in someone ending up very sick or dying.Despite being a newer and nicer building, it doesnt seem well maintained. One of the elevators has been out of service for a couple days now. Several of the doors for the hotel seem to be in poor condition and require considerable force to open or close. One of the washing machines in the laundry room has a damaged door that has to be lifted in order to close it. In one of the dryers, the lint filter is bolted down to the dryer making it difficult to remove the lint. The other dryer has the lint filter broken off at the point where it is bolted down, presumably by a guest who wanted to clean it. Neither is ideal and they should not be bolted down like that in the first place.Half the accessories for the cable tower in the fitness center are missing (such as ankle straps, which means leg workouts are not possible). The water dispenser in the fitness center is often empty and I have to constantly ask the front desk for water. They also do not maintain hot water in the hot water dispenser in the beverage area in the lobby, so the water is often cold or lukewarm and not hot enough to brew tea with. I constantly have to ask the kitchen/front desk staff for hot water.Theres other problems here as well but if I list them all this review will never end. Overall I am not happy with my experience here and am seriously considering staying at a different hotel.
The Habit Burger Grill
2335 S 4th St, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
I waited 40 minutes in the drive thru, ok new place need to wait. When I placed my order for my entire family, one item I requested was a charbroiled hamburger, worker asked with cheese, I said No cheese. After I made my complete order and was repeated back, worker added cheese to the burger, so again I said No cheese and then repeated my order back finally correct. I come to pickup window to pay again repeated back my order and the burger had cheese again. So they corrected the order on the spot, still however charging me for a burger with cheese, gave me my food, and I replied hopefully the burger will not have cheese and worker replied I hope your order is right. I got home found out they forgot my chicken club sandwich, bummer, luckily I live close, went back to the habit walked inside and asked for the manager, I told the manager I did not get my chicken club sandwich at the drive thru and showed my receipt, the manager without saying a word took my receipt told the workers to make the sandwich. I waited about 5 minutes and the manager gave me my sandwich and said I also gave you some fries too. I thought thats nice and told the manager I want to give you some advise, common courtesy dictates when someone makes a mistake an apology is given and I didnt get one. Then the manager said she apologized before, I told her I didnt hear it, and she said thats because with a really raspy voice she cant talk loud as she is sick. I said ok you have laryngitis and then said goodbye. I would of given one star, but the food was good, however fries can be too salty for some.
El Pollo Loco
1403 N Imperial Ave, El Centro, CA 92243, United States
I've been to El Pollo many times before and the service has usually been good, however this time was the worst experience I've ever had at a fast food restaurant. I ordered 4 Chicken Avocado Burritos and 1 Chicken Avocado Burrito with no beans over the drive-in speaker. She said that there were no beans in them, to which I stated it says on the sign that it has beans. She again stated it does not. I knew this was not true because I've had many of these burritos over the past year, but I was done trying to tell her what it says, so I proceeded to the window. Marcella gave me my total and took my payment. She then proceeded to hand me a bag full of chicken tacos. I knocked on the window and explained that I had ordered burritos and not tacos. Instead of fixing my order she started to argue with me. “NO you said tacos.” She sounded annoyed. I then repeated what I had actually ordered. This drive thru employee continued to argue with me. I said “Girl, I have my teenagers in my vehicle who heard what I ordered and would had let me know if I said something wrong!” Marcela proceeded with an attitude. “Well I said TACOS!!” “I'm sorry, I must not have heard you repeat back “tacos”, but that doesn't change the fact that I *ordered* burritos. I even argued with you about the beans! I am the customer!” I watched as Marcela stormed away while clearly talking about the situation to other employees. Another woman came to hand me my burritos. I thanked her and asked for the name of the employee, who was conveniently missing her name tag. I was told Marcella. Most ridiculous customer service experience I have ever had.
Black Bear Diner Sacramento - Natomas
2700 El Centro Rd, Sacramento, CA 95833, United States
First I want to say my husband and I are.truck drivers and we have first hand experience on how each and every (almost) restaurant treats their customer. From the food to the service, to the cleanliness of restrooms and seating area and over all atmosphere. Danny was our server and let me tell you the only time we have ever been treated so well and with effortless and genuine care was....never. What an amazing experience Danny made for us, he made sure we had our order correctly and that we were satisfied and that we didnt need anything. I truly felt like we were in some fancy restaurant where we had to dress formal even though we werent. I have to say Danny is the finest server we have ever had the pleasure to interact with at any restaurant. We truly beleive the waiters and waitresses are the one that control your visit and Danny is a great example of what an extraordinary waiter/waitress should be. We will definitely return again and tell all our friends and family.
