Golden City BBQ Restaurant
108 N Garfield Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
This is a great place for a authentic home cooked Chinese meal. I can understand the frustration from other reviewers who review Chinese restaurants because they live in the area of where there are so many Chinese eateries, that they become really picky when eating at a fine establishment. This restaurant is nice, and the ambience is very homely. The staff are very attentive and always willing to help out. On some occasions, they serve a daily soup which is always nice because you never know what kind of soup they brew and its definitely refreshing. Plus, you dont have to sit and wander if you need a soup to start of the meal. But for those who want a great authentic Chinese-foodie experience, I would suggest a soup. Dont order the usual hot and sour or egg-drop soup. Order maybe the seafood soup, fish maw soup, or even ask the waiter for something to your tastes. Then order dishes you wouldnt get at a regular fast food Chinese joint. Such as ordering Fish Filet in black bean sauce, steam rice, sweet and sour pork, hot pot with tofu and seafood. Those are just some of the dishes that you should definitely try out. Thats what we would order if we go here. So, this is a restaurant for those who havent tried great authentic Chinese food to enjoy what a real Chinese establishment has to offer.

Ever since my friend SZ started posting pictures of her meals at TFC, Ive been wanting to come here. The food looked so good! So I made my friends Gardenia H and Keri W take me here for my two-month-belated birthday celebration. We came on a Wednesday (theyre closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) around 6PM so we could hopefully beat the crowd. And our plan worked! We were immediately seated at a corner table surrounded by cute chalkboard writing. Apparently this place used to be The Open Door but was replaced by Tokyo Fried Chicken (but same owner/chef). Ive never been to The Open Door but I love TFC! The place is really cute, the staff are nice and friendly, and the food is delicious.I started off with their YUZU LEMONADE, which is a bit tart but completely refreshing. It definitely helped balance out the heavy meal that was coming. And it comes with complimentary refills :)We shared their CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN SKIN appetizer. They brought out their three sauces when they gave us the skin. I wasnt a fan of this appetizer; the flavour was just okay and it seemed like empty carbs to me.For our meal, we got their CHICKEN DINNER SET. This is $12.50/person and all sets are mixed dark meat (drums, wings, thighs) although chicken breast can be substituted for a drum and thigh upon request. I love dark meat so I was completely happy with the set as is! We did DINNER FOR 3, which comes with 9 pieces of chicken, three regular sides, chicken rice, and house pickled ginger cabbage.-- SIDE 1: CURRY CREAMED CORNFrom what I saw on Yelp, this seemed to be a popular side so I got it. It was pretty good. Quite creamy and heavy, as it should be, but I didnt think it was amazing.-- SIDE 2: GLAZED SWEET POTATOWe wanted the sweet and spiced butternut squash but our server said that was gone and instead they were offering glazed sweet potato. I love sweet potato so we went with this and were quite disappointed. Definitely our least favourite of the sides; it was pretty hard and bland. Would not order this one again.-- SIDE 3: MAC AND CHEESEThe mac and cheese is an upgraded side, which means it costs $1.50 extra to add it to a dinner set. The serving size does seem larger than the regular sides, and I love mac and cheese so I was happy with this side. It was creamy, cheesy, and had a pleasant crispy topping too!-- CHICKEN RICEI think the rice is cooked with chicken broth? Not sure, but it was delicious!-- HOUSE PICKLED GINGER CABBAGEOur server referred to this as coleslaw so I think this is the same thing as the coleslaw on the sides option. I really liked this as it provided a refreshing contrast to the heaviness of the meal. I wish we had more... but I guess thats why they offer it as a side. Next time I would definitely get this as a side because I felt like it was a necessary part of the meal.-- CHICKEN!The most important thing here. And OMG the fried chicken was SO GOOD. I said before that I didnt like the chicken skin appetizer, but the crispy fried chicken skin on the actual fried chicken was AMAZING! It was so perfectly cooked and crispy and flavourful! I didnt use the ponzu sauce at all because I felt the chicken was perfect as is. And since the chicken is dark meat it is moist and juicy and the whole thing was just oh-so-good. Im in love with the fried chicken here :)No meal is complete without dessert, right? They dont have a written dessert menu here since they only offer a few things, which our server told us about. They offer popsicles from Quenelle, and we opted for their APPLE PIE BAR. I forgot what the description was but I know it involves Granny Smith apples and graham crackers. Whatever they put in it, it tastes like apple pie and is sweet and delicious!Despite the crispy fried chicken skin appetizer and the sweet potato side both being quite meh, I immensely enjoyed my meal here and would love to come back. As a result, Im bumping this review from 4.5 stars up to a full 5! Get the fried chicken here and the apple pie bar, you wont regret it :D
Chubby Cattle Monterey Park

It has a great concept of selling an AYCE BBQ experience with premium options. The meat quality was good. However, it was one of the worst dining experiences Ive had. The tables are very small for large groups and the ventilation is horrific. Service was ok, but one server was absolutely awful. Pacing was incredibly rushed, and they implemented a 6 plate order max per order (its their rule whether you have a table of 2 or 7) which limited the amount of food we could order. We arrived at 4:25pm on a weekend and there was already a long line (we missed the 1st wave and got seated at 6:10pm). They don't take reservations. It could be a decent experience if you come in a small group (2-4 people), but it was absolutely awful with a group of 7.Food- 4 starsWe ordered the gold tier and the items were a hit or miss. The M6 short rib, brisket, tuna nigiri and wagyu uni nigiri were good. We only received 1 order of the A5 tender meat due to limited supply, and it was decent (not the marbling and fattiness that you expect from most A5 beef). Everything else was standard (the M9 meats and seafood)The ordering system was incredibly frustrating. They allowed a max of 6 orders per order on the menu (this included appetizers, nigiri, meat, seafood and veggies), for a table of 7! So we basically could order 2-3 meats (the plates were pretty small), 1 nigiri, 1 appetizer, 1 seafood, and 1 vegetable plate at a time. This was an incredibly waste of time as we were only able to order 3-4 times before they showed up with the check. They even had a last call order when we were 50 minutes into our meal and they still enforced the 6 order maximum per order. We had to complain about ordering a bit more during last call since we were still hungry due to their ordering protocol, and they somewhat obliged with more orders at last call.Ventilation- 1 starThe building isn't ready for an indoor BBQ atmosphere, as it was pretty small and poorly ventilated. Groups of 4 or more were seated near the wall with a weak vent. Smaller groups were seated in the middle of the restaurant without a vent, but they had high ceilingsWe were seated in the outer booth tables, which can seat 4 comfortably, but was packed with our group of 7. As mentioned, the vents at the booths felt like low-end home appliances. The smoke was awful as we reeked of smoke. It got so bad that we had bloodshot eyes and were tearing up because of the smoke and poor ventilationService- 2 starsThe busboys were good with clearing plates and changing grills. The servers were decent but its unfortunate that they had to enforce the 6 order rule for a party of 7.However, 2 servers ruined my night. Around the 40 minute mark of our dining period, 1 of the servers gave us the last call order and only allowed us to place 6 orders. He wouldnt relent on the rule, and it wasnt until I complained that we were still hungry and that we still had 50 minutes left that we were able to place a few more orders to our last call. 10 minutes after that, an older female server shoved the bill next to my plate (this is at the 50 minute mark, with 40 minutes left in our timer). She came back 20 minutes later (when we still had 20 minutes left and we literally just received our last plates of raw meat) to tell me that I had to pay right now. I understand enforcing their 90 minute dining rule to accommodate more guests, but I was disgusted by how they were forcing us out when we still had 20 minutes on the clock and our last order just arrived.Ambiance- 2 starsThe interior design was nice with a modern bar and great roof decorations. It would be a cool experience to dine in the middle of the restaurant with a small group. However, it was miserable being in the outer booths with a large group. It was like eating in a house of smoke with no windows with loud music blaring. Theyre going for the hipster BBQ vibe, but it felt like a torture chamberBottom LineI rarely write negative reviews, but this was appalling. Ive never truly been upset when dining at a restaurant until this night.

Used to live in Monterey Park but now I live almost 20 miles away and still make it a point to visit at least every two weeks or so. My favorite is the Green Chili Burrito, half green chili pork and half pinto beans, which although hot enough to send even Mexicans to the cold drinks, is exactly how a green chili burrito should taste. Plenty of the jalapeno chili flavor, and the pork is very clean with very little fat. The beans are simply the best. My long retired (Mexican) uncle-in-law comes every couple of weeks for a quart of the pinto beans, theyre that good. Clientele is mostly Mexican and Asian. In and out in just a few minutes. Quality of food is top rate and always shows a A for cleanliness.
Oh My Chicken

Worst customer service EVER received!!! Ordered a 2 whole meals from Postmates and the female that was supposed to get my meal from “ Bomb Chicken” was told that she couldn't get the order because it was already given!!! When it was specifically only supposed to given to her. They accused me of already getting my order when I've been home this whole time, waited more than 45 min, then was told the chef making the food REFUSED to make my order. VERY DISAPPOINTING! If I could give them 0 stars I would but :/ Not only did they gave my order to someone else, they gave the female a hard time when she was just following orders which was pickup and deliver, considering the fact they couldn't just apologized after THEIR mistake and 2 long calls and the manager disputed with us, I can say just look somewhere else to eat if you don't want to be disappointed. UNPROFESSIONAL “Bomb Chicken” more like Failed Chicken.
Running Chicks
141 N Atlantic Blvd #105, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Putting only a 1 star not because of food, but due to service.Food was decent, and the value for taste, I say is decent. The service was poor. I was in the store on a Sunday afternoon, and was the first person that made the order. There were 4-5 people that came after me, all ordered and received their food before me. I timed it a total of roughly 30 minutes wait for a 6 piece order. I had people waiting for me in the car for a bit, we all thought it would be a quick pickup, at most 15 minutes. I asked the counter girl at the 20 minutes mark, how long is going to take further as my ride was waiting, she said 5 more minutes. I came back in 5 minutes, everyone who ordered after me all were gone and I still havent received my order. Waited for 5 more minutes, then the order was received, total 30 minutes time. Shamefully, the order after me was for a 40 piece tray, and that came out before my order!!!All in all, let us remind the restaurant industry that its always about the customer service and they have to show how much they value each customer. A professional establishment will acknowledge the problem, because waiting 30 minutes for a fast food order is not acceptable in any country. Not also when all the people who came after you all got their order and left. Whether Running Chicks made a mistake, or forgot my order, thats irrelevant. In a real professional establishment, the moment there was a mistake, or when a customer waited too long, the restaurant will inform the customer and own up to their mistake, or any mishap that had derailed the order, and keep the customer aware. They will show urgency and care. That was not on display at all. Also, most professional establishment will realize the customer waited way too long, and would even refund the order and give the food for free, or ask the customer if theres anything they want to add, to make up for the time lost or the inconvenience from the customer (and the people all waiting in the car). But, Running Chicks did not even acknowledge this, and acted like there wasnt even a problem, in summary, simply amateur. In light of todays event, I wasnt expected a refund, or a free meal. I just wanted counter girl to acknowledge the problem, and come forward and tell me what the situation is whether they forgot my order or whatever the reason may be. Own up to the problem. Keep the customer relationship going, and show that they care. But they took the opposite approach, therefore, it is enough for me to never return, and also would force me to share todays experience to any of my friend, shall they ask.
Noodle World

When you encounter a restaurant that serves Vietnamese AND Thai AND Chinese AND Japanese cuisine and is open until late at night, that should seriously raise some eyebrows regarding the quality and authenticity of the food. I dont care what you people say; I am sticking to my opinion on this one. I came here with a few friends at night. We waited around 20 minutes for us to get seated, and we waited another 15 minutes or so after being seated to place our orders. We ordered two orders of Spicy Pan Fried Noodles and one order of the garlic spare ribs.I know this is a restaurant that specializes (and I use that term VERY LOOSELY...) in noodle dishes, but the garlic spare ribs was seriously inedible. It was more gristle than anything; I ate about a third of my dish before disgust finally set in and I gave up eating it. The Spicy Pan Fried Noodles was mediocre at best, your choice of chicken or pork with a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and peppers with a copious serving of oil. The only upside to this place is that the portion sizes are quite generous. But who wants to eat a large quantity of unsavory food? Not keen on returning here unless someone REALLY wants to eat here, and Id still try to talk them into eating elsewhere.

I've been here before for weekend dim sum, but I guess I forgot to post my review. AnywAy, the reason for the addition, is that I get why some of the reviews are negative. If I recall, the wait time was long but do recall decent service. Anyway, on this night, a Wednesday two days before Christmas Eve, service was great. We had a party of 12 and wanted a private room, but my sister was told about the minimum spend (not a problem the way my family eats), but also wanted us to pre-order. Ridiculous, so we just asked for the tables. Once I got there and noticed it was slow, I asked if we can have an extra table for gifts (it was our pre family Christmas dinner with my sisters and mom). The manager then came and offered us a private room. I told him that was our original plan and about the issue with pre-order and wished they didn't have that requirement. Anyway, he apologized and explained how that could be an issue on a busy night and walked us to the private room. From that point, service and food were excellent. All was good and everyone happy. Not sure about all that we ordered, but the family meal which was about $338 was awesome. Manager suggested it and suggested we order two, one for each table, but we decided to order the one family meal and supplement with our favorites. Like clams and pork chops since the meal didn't have them. I can't say if a discount is built into the family meal, but for being one of the less expensive options from about 10 ranging from $300 to $800, can see why the manager said it was a favorite. Had a whole lobster, whole duck, whole chicken, steak and a large order of walnut shrimp. About 2-3 other dishes and dessert made up the full meal but the portions made it worth it. Can probably feed up to 10 people alone. We didn't even finish the lobster and clams!!!! We obviously ordered too much, but that's my family. Had plenty of left overs and great memories. About $660 including extra orders and a few beers. Some can argue this place is expensive, especially for Chinese food, but I would have paid much more at a steakhouse, Korean (which we are) or sushi restaurant for my family of 12. I certainly could have paid less without the lobster, clams, steak and shrimp but then again, that's not my point. The quality of food that we ordered is on par with some of the other styles of food at a lower price point per person, service was top notch, parking and wait was awesome (on this occasion) so why not 5 stars? I'm sure I'll come back when I'm not in the Christmas spirit, wait times are longer, parking sucks and all that and update to 3 stars, but for today's experience, it was perfect. Love my fam!

This is THE SPOT for your HK Style Breakfast & Lunch fix!!!I went today on a Weekday when it was raining so there wasnt too bad of a wait. Im not well connected in this area anymore so, I have to wait like everyone else now, lol.We got seated fairly quickly and because it was the weekday, there were still some available seating.Forget about it on the Weekends!!!People were STILL seating outside in their tents while it was pouring rain!!! I guess they like that cold wind ambiance?? ?I went with their Signature HK Style Noodles. There like 6 sections of 4 or more options of how you can have your noodles. It was pretty amazing to say the least. My Date got the same noodles as I did and we shared some HK Style Toast which has some condensed milk filling and powdered chocolate topping. It should be comforting for most all cultures if youre weary about trying something unfamiliar. When in doubt, always go with Chicken, lol.Service could have been a little more attentive though, they still do a good job with how busy they get. TIP WELL STILL, they work hard for it with no complaints or sour face while doing Their Job.Restaurant was very clean with a cool lighted mirror and funny tiles in both English and Chinese about bathroom hygiene fundamentals ?Their Kitchen looked spotless and polished?Parking Lot is always FULL so, Park on the Side Streets and MAKE SURE to READ the Street Parking Signs. If I remember correctly, youre good except for One Day Street Sweeping. It may be Thursdays.I cant wait to come back and try something new!!!

Well, just another so so experience at an untrained, no management Vietnamese sandwich shop!!!If youre hungry and just wanted to get a sandwich to get by, then thats ok. But dont expect much from this place. Waiter wont smile at you. Its almost like they are doing you a favor. While we were there, another customer was with his family and wanted to use the restroom, and he asked for the key, the waiter looked at him suspiciously and asked are you a customer. This is so sad. He pointed to his table to prove that he is. Then I came up and asked for some extra napkins because they give you only one. Again she hesitated for a few seconds before reaching under the table, and took her time to hand me exactly one napkin. Talk about efficiency!!!We ordered some fruit drink on the menu, and she said they dont make it anymoreThe place is quite big, but if you look through the counter, they were all empty. Nothing in display as if they are moving out soon.Oh well, itd be hard to make me want to come back! So depressing to see a business in such a popular Asian community and dont want to improve itself.I honestly dont know how they stay in business all these years.
