Changan Restaurant
227 W Valley Blvd #348, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Located on the third floor! It was a bit confusing to find since this was our first time to the Hilton plaza, but at least parking was relatively easy with its ample underground garage. We met up with a few friends for a birthday celebration, but the restaurant hosted us easily with a group of 12+. Some people arrived later and I couldnt tell how many since I was sitting at the end of the table.Since we had a large party, the waiter said it would be best to split by tables for checks. For our table of 5, we decided to share everything family style so that we could try more options. We ordered about 6 different dishes ranging from meats, veggies and rice. Portions for family style is a bit on the small side, but easily shared between 2-3 people. Not large enough to feed 4-5 as the server suggested! We got Beef Tongue, Sausage Fried Rice, Pork Ribs, Braised Short Ribs with Stir Fried Pea Shoots, Dan-Huang Shrimp and Sautéed Greens. The fried rice was supposed to feed 4, but we thought it was perfect for two at best. The table favorites were the pork ribs for its tangy crispy bits and melt in your mouth braised short ribs.I think the total per person for all of this was about $30 per person including tip! We didnt leave exceedingly full but just enough. However, if youre looking for something to really leave you satisfied, I recommend visiting with a smaller group haha.
Bonchon San Gabriel
710 W Las Tunas Dr, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
While I would love to give Bonchon a higher rating, I just cant. I enjoyed the food, but the service was atrocious.Dont get me wrong. I went there because of personal recommendations from friends to get the Korean fried chicken, and they werent wrong. I had one other place, and Bonchon blows it out of the water with their exterior and the chicken tenderness. However, the main thing that bothers me is the service provided to me at Bonchon.I went to Bonchon and ordered 3 items: 20 pieces of soy garlic wings, the seafood udon soup, and the bulgogi house special fried rice. Each of the items had something wrong with it.The fried chicken only had 19 pieces rather than the 20 I was promised. While I do realize this may not be a huge problem, I still would like the full amount that I ordered since I am paying the money for it. Aside from that, it was fine. However, we also ordered the soup and the fried rice. We waited about 10 minutes for the fried chicken -- which was good, but that was probably because everyone else already had their orders so it wasnt busy for the kitchen. When we finished the chicken, which was in about 20 minutes, the fried rice and the soup didnt come out yet. We waited about 5 more minutes before asking about it. When the waitress came out, she claimed that it was in the process of being made, but we could tell that they didnt even start on either of the orders. After about 7 minutes, the fried rice came out. To be honest, the fried rice was okay. There wasnt anything special about it since it is just fried rice but with bulgogi in it. In my opinion, it is a pretty standard dish. The only problem that we had was that it took such a long time since they forgot about our order. When we finished the fried rice, we waited another 4 minutes before they brought out the udon soup. When it was brought out, the server wondered whether it had seafood added into it and said they would check. We decided to not touch the soup since we thought that they would come back with a reply. After about 4 minutes of waiting, we decided to ask about one of the servers whether the udon had seafood. They came back and said that it did. I think that was a terrible customer service on their end since the server said they would check whether it had seafood or not. It wasnt until we asked about it that they confirmed for us rather than coming out and saying whether or not it did.In totality, the fried chicken was good while the udon and the fried rice werent anything special. The main caveat; however, was the horrendous customer service. I dont plan on going back just because I dont want to wait for a long time just to be served poorly.P.S. The time approximations were due to watching the basketball game and using the clock.
BIG ES TERIYAKI & BURGERS
2111 San Gabriel Blvd G, Rosemead, CA 91770, United States
Crazy menu board that took me while to figure out. Once I did, I decided to try a variety. One of their specials give you an option of two of their faves for $8.88. I went for the Nash, spicy sweet chicken sandwich and teriyaki bowl, with sauce on the siDe only they forgot my side of sauce :(. The bowl itself is actually a pretty large plate, so easy enough for two. Chicken was a bit dry without the sauce, but was pretty tasty. Only wish I had the sauce. I chose cabbage for the side and was simple but good. As for the sandwich, it was pretty aMazing. The chicken was juicy and plump. Hint of both sweet and spicy as advertised. For the price, I give it 10 stars. I've had quite a few spicy chicken sandwiches and paid well over $10, mostly ranging from $12-16, that were not as good. My personal preference would be for spicy only and at a higher heat level, but will try that next time. I also tried a spam musubi which was as expected. Maybe on the pricy side for one piece. Here's the breakdown. The Nash chicken sandwich - 5+ stars. Carried the whole meal.Teriyaki chicken bowl - 3 stars. Tasty but dry and forgot myy sauce on the side. Confident would have been 4 stars with sauce.Spam musubi - 4 stars. Tasted as expected.Price - 5 stars. Enough food for 2-3 people under $15Service - 3 stars. Ok. Seemed annoyed as I was studying the menu, but I had something set going in based on Online menu, but knew they were old and wanted to see what changed and it was a lot. No more curry, which is what i wanted to try. The menu board kept changing too, so took me a while to figure out what I wanted. Anyway, it was just ok.Overall - 4 stars with room to improve for sure
A Ri Rang Tofu House
529 E Valley Blvd #128, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Originally wanted to go to Jazz Cat, but the line was incredibly long - we headed over to A Ri Rang Tofu House instead: warm food, good banchan, no wait definitely made for a pretty good meal.Service isnt the greatest here as the workers all seem super busy and barely have a second to pause by the table as you request for more banchan. But we were immediately seated and able to order within a few minutes, which meant that food came out of the kitchen in about 10-15 minutes. Not bad at all!All my friends and I ordered the combination tofu soup except for one friend who got the chicken broth instead. We also had an order of galbi ribs to share. Banchan was pretty impressive - I really like seaweed, so I was super happy that A Ri Rang served an unlimited amount of the tangy seaweed sidedish. They also had kimchi, broccoli, beansprouts, potato, tofu, and pickled spicy cucumbers. And of course the salad. All of the side dishes really got our stomachs ready for the tofu soup and galbi.Combination beef and seafood soup was not too bad. Each of my friends ordered a different spiciness level (I had mild, one had medium, another ordered hot). I preferred my mild the most as I could really taste the soup flavor. With the spicy soups, I really couldnt taste much of the soup - overall, not too bad. I think Young Dong gives a bit more seafood and other ingredients in their soup, but I liked the overall flavor enough. Cant complain. As for the galbi - it was a bit on the smaller side considering the price. I think we were only given like 5-6 pieces, which really isnt worth the price point. The taste of the meat was good! But the portion size is pretty lacking. My friends chicken broth was a winner. Very natural - perfect if youre feeling under the weather, want something warm, or want something healthy. Had the entire chicken in the broth as well as lots of green onions, ginger, and other ingredients. Tasted perfect on a chilly night.Located in Sunny Plaza - parking isnt too tough to find.tl;dr - Overall, Im glad I got to try A Ri Rang. Its a pretty decent tofu house, but I think I prefer Young Dong to this. Side dishes were good, and they do give you rice in a stone pot - I really like digging into the sides of the pot for the crunchy rice. Would come back again if I was in the area.

No. 8 on the Bund restaurant in San Gabriel beautifully captures the essence of its Shanghai namesake. While it may lack the stunning Bund view, it more than compensates with its impressive array of authentic Shanghainese cuisine. I was particularly enamored with their grilled whole fish in scallion and Shanghainese sauce—a dish that truly transported me back to the flavors of Shanghai. Equally delightful was the noodle in scallion oil, boasting a remarkable authenticity and flavor. One of the standout features of this restaurant is its exceptional value. With lunch offerings priced at under $12, you can savor your favorite dishes without breaking the bank. The extensive menu offers a plethora of choices, and I highly recommend indulging in their fried dumplings and the universally beloved braised pork belly. The attentive and friendly service further enhances the dining experience.Upon stepping inside, the decor immerses you in Shanghais charm, adorned with Shanghai-style photos and wall art. While the restaurant may not provide the iconic Bund view, it undeniably captures the essence of Shanghainese cuisine and culture. No. 8 on the Bund in San Gabriel is a true gem for those seeking an authentic taste of Shanghai in a cozy and inviting setting.
Wuming Hot Pot
529 E Valley Blvd #168, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Gender discriminationI did not know that, in 07/10/2022, women in Los Angeles, still needs MEN's accompany, In order to be respected while dinning in a restaurant.Warning: DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, never ever would you try, this is one of the rudest hot pot place here.I went there today at 8pm and seated on B5, while ordering, the waiter came and warned me about not to order dishes on the website for more than once. Me and my girl friend only order two time, each time with 3 dishes. The ordering alert was nonstop on the front desk, and this waiter only chooses my table for warning, because it was only two girls. He wound very inpatient, angry, and loud. When I was yelled by him, I remained calm and ask him why we could not order two time for different food, and he did Not answer and walked away.Later again, a kitchen men is serving the soup, his right foot is stepping on my left foot, his leans forward, with his weight, about 180pounds, completely on top of my left foot. Again, he did not apologize, he looked and seen that there were only two girls dining, he looked at me, and my facial expression, I was angry, but he did not care and walked away. I am very very upset about my experience today, I walked home with my white shoes with a large spot of stain, and I think I really need a apology from them.
Macao Cafe
120 N San Gabriel Blvd C, San Gabriel, CA 91775, United States
We have been going to this shopping mall on the corner of Las Tina's and San Gabriel, for dining with other restaurants for a awhile. We noticed there is a new restaurant opened and decided to give it a try.The foods were very tasty but with hits and misses. We love the Taiwan style fried vermicelli and vegetables and egg plants. These two dishes are full of flavors and wok Hei. I believe they are in par with the ones we had in Taiwan. On the other hand, the house especial tea smoked duck is a disappointment. I didn't taste any tea smoke flavor in the duck. Instead tender and full of tea smoke flavor, the duck was dried and oily as it was fried instead of smoked and steamed as in the traditional way of preparing the duck by most of the Chinese restaurants. This duck dish is called Zhangcha duck, tea-smoked duck, or simply smoked duck (literally: 樟茶鸭 zhāngchá yā, camphor-tea duck) is perhaps THE quintessential dish of Sichuan cuisine. It is prepared by hot smoking a marinated duck over tea leaves and twigs of the camphor plant. Due to its complicated preparation, zhangcha duck is eaten more often in banquets or festive events than as a daily household item. I guess with the limited time to prepare this dish for lunch, the restaurant simply just fried the duck and garnished it with some shredded scallion and brought it out as Tea Smoked duck from Taiwan.Anyway, for those of you just want to try some good Chinese food from different regions, this is one of the places to dine. The prices here for lunch are reasonable. The food tasted decent.
Kami Buffet & Grill

I just had gotten food for my husband who is disable, uses a cane, and has movement disorder. A hostess, named Sherry, came over and demanded that we vacate the table and to go back to the room assigned to our party. The room was very crowded with family and friends who attended my father in law's funeral. 100 people were expected to come. There was no space for us and our niece had to make room by adding chairs to the last table at the end of the narrow room. We tried sitting there but it was too hard for my husband to walk that far. I explained that to Sherry and since he couldn't get his own food, I wanted him to see what's available and I would get his food for him. This girl was very rude and actually told me that she didn't care if my husband was disable. She then took his food and brought it to a table, near the kitchen door, with one chair. I got so irritated that I lost my appetite. I told my family about the horrific treatment and unfortunately, the bill totaling almost $4,000.00 was already paid. When my son and his cousins got up to leave, this same woman came over and told them to leave as she has customers waiting for their table. They looked around and saw that there were so many empty tables around. When I found out this, I went back and asked for the Manager. When I was speaking to her, Sherry came over and I pointed to the Manager that this was the girl who was so rude to us. This girl flatly denied that she did it. My son who came to get me told her that was the one who told them to get out. She was still arguing while the Manager apologized profusely and had to be told to be quiet. I feel that this is a horrendous way to treat customers especially after spending a large amount of money to a less than satisfactory food and unprofessional staff. This kind of attitude should not be tolerated and management should address their staff on treating customers especially with disabilities with kind and respect. My husband felt defeated when we left and he deserves more than that. I demand a formal apology from the management of this restaurant.

Save one star for the food. The quality of ingredient and the cooking were on point, but the experience was overall a dissapointment and we felt humiliated.Firstly, you can only call and left a message for your booking intent and wait for their call back. Booking was relatively easy with not much detail provided.Secondly, beware of the special house rules. They expect you to tell them during booking if you are here for their seafood menu. The things are they did not introduce the menu over the phone nor they explained their house rule. We were caught by surprice on site being told we could only choose the beef menu if not pre-selected the seafood menu during booking. The kitchen made an exception for us but it is just not the way it should be.Lastly, we expressed our intend to celebrate my wifes birthday during booking, they put the info in the system but did not honor it; Instead they did a birthday ceremony to table in front of us and we had to watch all that. We did not even bother to ask if that table had the same arrangement as we planned. The service was poorly train and immature. I agree with the other comment that it is not just about food but experience, and mine got ruined. Once the image is broken, I find less reason to visit again, especially for the reason we do not like to be humiliated again.
Sheng Yuan Restaurant
1000 S San Gabriel Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
First of all, let's talk about dining in. The waiter's service was terrible. She was slow to add water and slow to pay the bill and slow to pick up the lunch box when she was not busy. I felt very tactless. The candied haws eaten in the restaurant are also wet. The sugar has not solidified at all and is just so wet. Your family doesnt ask the guests if they are sure they want to eat this kind of ghost-looking candied haws? Which Chinese person has never eaten candied haws, yet they still have the nerve to blame the hot weather, how shameless! Let's talk about takeout. After ordering the takeout app twice, the sugar has solidified, but each time there is one less bunch of candied haws, and they are all very small. How do you manage to be so inconsistent? Finally, it was self-pickup. The fundamental beauty of the candied haws is solidified. I thought I would freeze it because I was so greedy, but the result was that it did not solidify when I took it out. When I tore the package open, the string dripped all over my pants, and I felt like it with every bite. Now, throw it directly into the trash can. As a Northeastern person, your family is really unrealistic. Just stop selling this kind of thing! Whoever buys it will be in trouble!
