Dragon Rouge Bistro Alameda
2337 Blanding Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Suggested by a friend, Dragon Rouge is a great mixed modern Asian restaurant. Check out their cocktails because you will find some custom unusual ones. Went with husband and 2 friends. We ordered family style, sharing between the group.Definitely going back. There is outdoor seating with a view of the Alameda slough.... weather permitting.

Burma Superstar
1345 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Popular spot serving unique Burmese dishes. I came through Oakland and had to give it a try. Even though I came early, it was already half filled shortly after the 5pm opening. The place is small and cozy so come early and/or make a reservation.I tried the tea lead salad along with the sesame beef. Both dishes were excellent and very tasty. The tea leaf salad is certainly something unique and probably what this place is best known for. It comes out on a plate with different ingredients arranged around the fermented tea leaf dressing and the server mixes it at the table. The sesame beef was a more typical sweet and sour fried beef you might find in other Chinese or Asian restaurants. Not as unique but still very good, though I would have preferred a little more beef to breading.Service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was decent. The only real negative and the main reason for deducting a star is the price. The salad was $13 and beef $16, plus $2.35 for a cup of rice. I also didnt care for the house beer, at $8 a pint, which tasted like a shandy (I dont recommend it unless you love citrus in your beer). Overall a great experience but I thought it seemed a bit overpriced.

Yokohama
1427 Webster St #3824, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
I enjoyed the food from Yokohama but please be aware that the prices on the website are not accurate. I placed the order while looking at the menu on the restaurants website (which seems to really be struggling to even populate every time I visit) and estimated the total for carryout would be about $80 after tax and tip. The order was placed over the phone and it is my mistake for not asking the total to confirm I was in the ballpark. It came out to $93 before tip. I understand inflation is hitting everyone, food is EXPENSIVE, this is a small restaurant (with incredibly friendly staff), and you shouldnt eat out if you cant afford it, but as a customer I would have really appreciated accurate prices on the website. I cant even get the website to pull up the menu at the time of writing this (this is a huge pet peeve of mine; I wish I hadnt closed the tab last night). The nigiri dinner is currently $25 on the website- actual price is $30. The three rolls ordered were priced at about $14, $10, and $8. The actual prices (in that same order- $19, $12, $11. To me, this is kind of a considerable price difference and I absolutely would have chosen different items had I been provided accurate prices. I didnt mention this to the staff because it costs what it costs and Im not going to cause a fuss, but I wont be ordering from here again unless I have budgeted to spend $100+ for carryout dinner.

Panda Express
2630 5th St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
First thing we see is food on the counter. The server picks it up with her bare hands and drops it into a different food. Then uses a spoon to get it out of the other bowl. THEN. We get to the counter. She grabs the wrong food. We tell her that it's the wrong food and point to our food. She (we didn't realize) rings up all three food items and we pay for all three because the screen doesn't show us our order because she clicks away from it. (I don't think she did it on purpose but it still happened) then she starts packing up our food and grab the man's food (which multiples times we said “that's not our” “we have the two bowls” and “we didn't order that” we tel her that's not ours for about the 7th time and she goes (and I quote) “did you know you paid” we say no. I then ask “can we get a refund” she LITERALLY shrugs and I say “no sorry imma rephrase that. I would like my refund” she then rolls her eyes. Sighs and asks the man (who's food she charged us for) to pay us in cash for it. We're like no???? Are u kidding give us a proper refund. (For like 3 minutes she's talking to like a manager or something ) then they get keys and open the register and give us the cash for his food. We didn't get the tax back for his food. We have cash we didn't want because no one uses cash anymore) and they were rude.I've never written a bad review before but this was actually so wild

Up 2u Thai Eatery
1405 Webster St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
I need to come to Alameda more often. There seems to be a lot to really good places to grab a bite to eat here, and its a shame Im not in this area all that often. This Thai spot in Alameda is no exception. Definitely some of the better Thai food that Ive had.The restaurant itself, visually, is clean and appealing. The environs, though not attempting to be anything overly stylish, are refreshing. Tables, seats, and decorations are simple. Things have a visually balanced feel to them. A very comfortable spot.A friendly waitress had us seated quickly, menus, place settings, and all. We ordered the grilled chicken, grilled beef, crispy chicken salad, pineapple shrimp curry, and fried calamari as at appetizer. A few moments after our order was taken, plates and house salad were brought out. A tasty simple salad to get things started, but awesome that this started things off. A few minutes more and our food came out. The salad was flavorful, the grilled chicken and beef were tender as well as juicy, and even the fried calamari was on point. I couldnt stop eating that calamari, in fact. The food here is definitely on the top notch side.Great food, fast friendly service, and a really nice restaurant all in all. Im a fan for sure. Again, I really need to start hitting up Alameda more

Yojimbo
1221 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Update:Yojimbo has opened a new branch just a few steps away from its original. 2139 Santa Clara Ave, former space of American Oak.Check it out!!!****************£We certainly love going to this place! Yojimbo is one of our favorite ramen and Japanese food restaurants around the Bay Area! We have been coming here for several years and have invited friends. All of the people we invited to eat here were very impressed and others kept coming back, some drove from Vallejo and Fremont. Our frequent visits was stopped due to the pandemic, in that two years of pause my wife managed to be nearby and got me some ramen to-go but as best as it was packaged, we know that ramen is best eaten right away after serving. Well, we visited last week and we came back yesterday to make up for lost time! hahaThe ramen is still as good as we remembered it, the only change is that it now comes in two sizes, regular and large. It used to be just one size which was LARGE and you needed to use a big soup spoon. We used to have more than enough for two meals. On both recent visits, we ordered the regular size which is still a generous portion. The broth is delicious, noodles are nice, the chasu is delicious also. People who come here regularly will agree that they are consistent with the taste and good quality of the ramen.Wait, theres more! For non-ramen lovers, there is also quite good selections of japanese dishes and as others have complimented, it is fresh! I rarely order sushi here because I usually come for ramen, but when I do, it has always been fresh! There are also a good selection of appetizers to enjoy. I tried the pork bun last week and it was very good! I wanted to try the spicy tuna bun yesterday, but it was out. Oh well, more reasons for my wife and I to go back next week .. hehe.Lastly, as shown on my photos, Yojimbo has some very cool Japanese anime inspired art work throughout the place drawn by the owner himself! There are also some action figures on display for fans of Japanese anime. I wanted to ask the owner if he will be able to make one for me one day as I do love his Samurai warriors art works.Go, go, go to this place! You have to try it at least once and you will not regret it! Oh - really last thing! At some point they opened up more space on the side of the building but it was closed and we were told that it has been closed for quite some time BUT they are planning to open a bigger location not too far from its current location. From what we were told they do not have plans to close the current location, I do hope that they dont because it does have its own charm.

BLUEFIN SUSHI & THAI
3211 Encinal Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
This place has really disappointed me for service and quality of food. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this place and finally decided my family should give it a try. First the staff tried to deny that I had even placed an order for my husband to pick up, stating they had no order for “Michelle,” but after showing them the order details on grub hub, they found it. We were separating the dinner for our kids at home when I notice the 2 sushi orders were in the same plastic box. I thought that was weird because I've never had any other restaurant “mix” food, especially more recently due to Covid, but shrugged it off. I noticed the super dragon roll was not in tact and the food just didn't look like I had imagined or seen on their advertisements. Luckily, I trusted my instinct and looked over the food again only to find a hair inside on the roll; grey or blonde. As I pulled out the hair, my children 3 and 5, became more dramatic and disgusted asking me what it was that I was pulling out of their food. I explained that it was a hair and that we had to return all of the food to the restaurant. Upon contacting the restaurant, they thought the only appropriate action would be to remake the food with an issue. They were reluctant over the phone and in-person to provide me with a full refund, but I cannot imagine how we can believe the other food or ANY FOOD from this restaurant is safe. At the very least, they could have acknowledged the mistake and apologized. Instead, they tried to make me feel like I was not entitled to good service or quality food once I placed the order online for pick-up. I returned all of the food and made sure to put the hair in a plastic bag for the owner/manager. They said my refund would take up to 7 days.

Sakura Sushi Bar & Grill
2408 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Ordered pick up from this place. They packaged the sake don (salmon over rice) in the same container with the salad and dressing, which spread to the rice and salmon. Not sure why they did not package it separately? I dont know about other people, but I do not like salad dressing on raw salmon. Also the ginger and wasabi was covered by the salad/dressing they packed together, so I unknowingly ate both when I went to take a bite of salad - not good service. Im assuming they tried to save money by not using an extra container, but they have lost me as a customer.

Spice I Am
1353 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Spice I Am (not to be confused with Will.I.Am) is tucked in between Tuckers ice cream and a local video store. Modern, no frills decor with cool large minimalist pieces on the walls.Lunch service was swift and efficient, with affordable specials. I went for their marinated short ribs, which included a mound of brown rice, steamed vegetables (cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli), and a delicious salad with ginger dressing to start off, all for 9 bucks! When I asked for it to be spicy, my server instead offered to bring the spice mini-cart. While the spice mini-cart trifecta indeed packed some heat (crushed red pepper, chili sauce, pickled jalapenos), I have to say that pickled jalapeños are no substitute for pickled thai chilies. Or fresh thai chilies. Or even fresh jalapeños for that matter. The short ribs were deliciously spiced and grilled. A good amount of fat off the bone, but thats what one would expect from short ribs. As I was making my way through the plate (good portion), I found that the rice wasnt really adding to the meal. Upon paying and leaving, I asked the server about the option of ordering my lunch special without any rice, and what impact it would have in terms of portion. She responded that they would be happy to offer more steamed vegetables, which would actually be pretty cool. This is the best second best Thai food I had in Alameda, after Toomies Thai. Four stars very well earned, and I will certainly take the 3-minute walk from work (Hearing Zone) to come back here!
