Jazz Cat Restaurant

7 Years In LA, this is still my favorite restaurant.Just like Monica in friends, SEVEN, SEVEN, SEVEN....SEVEN!!I moved here 7 years ago from Denver on a mission to eat good food. The first here I was here I splurged at every restaurant possible, American, Mexican, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, so on and within those genres of food breaking it down to specific specialties of the cuisine. When I first went to Jazz Cat it was a small location on Valley next to Noodle World/Boiling crab. At the time they were still using iron pots where they used petroleum jelly to light the fire to heat up the soup. Being that the restaurant was tiny and not meant for 50 people to light individual fires in the restaurant, it was too hot. Listening to their costumers, they opened a brand new restaurant with well vented tables and electric burners.Fast forward 7 years later. My go-to broth is still the Spicy Seafood Essence (formally known as the Jazz Cat Spicy). Not sure why they call it spicy, because its not spicy, its just more flavorful than the original. If youre a seafood eater, try the seafood as your protein, if not stick with the beef as your protein.MUST TRY side ordersDO NOT leave without ordering what we call awesome balls. Yes, I said it. The formal name for this dish is GOLDEN FISH BALLS! ERR MERHH GERRDDD they are so good....special surprise for you when you bite into them.Second side you MUST order is Popcorn Chicken. Yes, fried chicken showered in jazz cats secret dust....possibly MSG ;P hahaha. You wont regret it.

I went to this restaurant for the first time and bought three dishes: Guobao Pork, Big Lapi, and Shredded Pork with Beijing Sauce. After driving 4 miles home, I found that the Guobao Pork was warm and all soft and soaked in the soup. Not a single piece of meat was crispy! Anyone who has eaten Northeastern cuisine knows that the Guobao Pork must at least have a crispy texture. However, the Guobao Pork here is not at all like freshly baked. I have every reason to suspect that you are buying the leftover vegetables from lunch. Give it to me! Not only is it not crispy, it has the texture of meat that has been soaked in juice for a long time, and it is warm, not hot! The texture of Da Lapi is completely hard and rejuvenated, as if it had been stored in the refrigerator for several days in advance. Every bite is full of hard lumps, and I vomit while eating. The shredded pork with Beijing sauce only has one or two green onions. If you don't look carefully, you won't find the green onions. You have to prepare the green onions yourself. I stopped by today because I wanted to eat Guobao Pork. It was the first and last time, and I was really angry! Not to mention the small portion, the dish was warm, the cold skin was hard, the texture was wrong, and the ingredients were not fresh at all. I just looked through the comments and found out that there were comments about cold pot pork being served to customers. Oh my god., I can't imagine encountering such a black shop in the United States! I would like to remind everyone to be careful not to step on the wrong thing. Not to mention losing money, your good mood will not be beautiful anymore. ?. One additional sentence: Guobao meat is full of tendons and cannot be chewed at all. It is really bad!

Friendly service. Food came out fast. But dont go close to closing time. The white rice was on the hard side abd not sticky, tho you get a big beautiful portion. We got the beef curry and the pork cutlet curry. The beef in curry was tender, which was good. And nice big chunks, also good..but..some pieces had large fatty bits. The pork cutlet dish was served with curry on the side, and I loved the red crunchy condiment (ginger??)...I take stars off because there was only half a shrimp in the tempura, the tempura appetizer was greasy, looked like the shrimp was sliced down the center the size of a straw. The other stars off for the fatty bits in the beef and off for the curry itself...while it was great we asked for mild and it was mild...it tasted like an Indian curry...which surprised me...it was dark and thick, and had some bitter notes in the same way Indian curry does. Its good if you like more bitter flavors. There were a few youngish folks dining alone so its comfortable for singletons. I liked the kitty portraits on the wall, and the Japanese kids books...loved the tiny toy ducks lining the place, so a cute quirky atmosphere. But very casual and really not much atmosphere.

First of all, let's talk about dining in. The waiter's service was terrible. She was slow to add water and slow to pay the bill and slow to pick up the lunch box when she was not busy. I felt very tactless. The candied haws eaten in the restaurant are also wet. The sugar has not solidified at all and is just so wet. Your family doesnt ask the guests if they are sure they want to eat this kind of ghost-looking candied haws? Which Chinese person has never eaten candied haws, yet they still have the nerve to blame the hot weather, how shameless! Let's talk about takeout. After ordering the takeout app twice, the sugar has solidified, but each time there is one less bunch of candied haws, and they are all very small. How do you manage to be so inconsistent? Finally, it was self-pickup. The fundamental beauty of the candied haws is solidified. I thought I would freeze it because I was so greedy, but the result was that it did not solidify when I took it out. When I tore the package open, the string dripped all over my pants, and I felt like it with every bite. Now, throw it directly into the trash can. As a Northeastern person, your family is really unrealistic. Just stop selling this kind of thing! Whoever buys it will be in trouble!

The food is okay, but the waiters attitude is super bad. Im very curious why the boss didnt fire her. She talks very choked and she doesnt have any quality at first glance. To be honest, at her level, being a waitress is a compliment. She insists on keeping her for the Chinese New Year. Its suitable for washing dishes in the kitchen. Dont offend all your customers and end up closing down! Learn from Haidilao. To be able to do business for a long time, you still have to give customers face!I wonder why the boss doesnt fire her. She is very tough to talk about, and she doesnt have any quality at all. To be honest, even working as a waitress at her level is a great honor. Dont offend all the customers and shut down. To learn from Haidilao, can do business for a long time or to give customers face!

Korean fried chicken wings and drumsticks. Kind of like an Asian version of Wing Stop but higher end. It kind of has a sport bar vibe. They have two large screen TV above the bar. You can sit at the bar, watch the game, have a beer and some wings. Only down side is it hard to find from the street. The restaurant is behind another building.

Shancheng Lameizi Hot Pot
1530 S San Gabriel Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91776, United States
Other reviews have said that the service is not good, but I felt it had improved yesterday. However, five of us went to eat yesterday, and their manager actually said that we have to use two pots for a big table??? Do you plan to let one of us be an orphan and have his own pot, or let us eat separately? Although she later said Its okay to squeeze a little, but her undoubted idea still grossly disgusted me. And you can't go in to eat when everyone is here. It's not like I go in and just sit down. I go in, order, and serve the food, so I can eat right away when people come. What's the problem? Now that we've complained about the service, let's talk about the dishes. The shredded cabbage underneath many of the dishes was so bad that the color had changed. I don't know how long it had been there. I wonder how much you would pay for this kind of shredded cabbage? Furthermore, I am seriously skeptical about the ingredients themselves. It didnt look like much, but I had a stomachache the next day after eating it. By the way, don't order the shrimp sliders. There are no shrimps in the shrimp sliders. It's so unpalatable that it's just a pile of noodles. Finally, let's complain about their checkout. They charge a mandatory 15% service fee. They also write service fee but not tips on the bill? Do you dare to say that you don't want to cheat the 15% fee and charge another tip? I'll give you a fuck. Beat to pieces. Whats the difference between charging 15% more service charge and charging 15% more meal price? Its none of your business how much I tip. Is your service worth 15% of the meal price?Every time I go there my impression becomes much worse and I will never go there again. One star is given for the taste itself. Friends who have never tried Sichuan hot pot can try it, but I really don't recommend this restaurant.
Young Dong Tofu House

* Selection/Price— This place has a great selection of Tofu soups from beef to seafood. They offer multiple dishes as well as meal combos (tofu soup + entree). They also have side orders if you'd like Spicy Korean Rice Cakes (Ddeokbokki), steam dumplings and the like.Soda comes in cans, but they provide you a paper cup with ice to pour it in— straw included.Be prepared to clear out the table of your personal belongings because the food tends to be served on multiple or large dishes, plates, and bowls.I got the steamed dumplings (2/5) - It was cold when it arrived and definitely didn't taste how I had expected. The picture on the menu showed dumplings in a steamer basket, so I expected piping hot dumplings, so this was disappointing, unfortunately, but the rest was good.I also got the Chicken Katsu curry and it did not disappoint. The curry was $17.99 and was plain (it just came with the Katsu, rice, and curry— no potatoes or anything else cooked in).It was HUGE.It came with about a cup and 2/3 rice, flattened and two big servings of chicken curry (see picture). The curry was great and wasn't salty— it was perfect for me.The rice was cooked really well, soft but there was texture. It was good!* Employees/Service— The service was okay. They didn't seat us until our whole party was there, which was understandable. They were attentive, though for some it seemed like they were rushing a bit while we ordered. My family tends to be into small talk, and if they're busy, it may feel like they're trying to get away from the conversation.Nonetheless, they were nice. One of their staff had seen my sister come in multiple times to dine in and he was pleased to be there to serve us.They had thought that we were Spanish-speaking, so he was sent to our table (we're Filipino), and our table had a fun time conversing with him with what little Spanish we knew and the English he was able to use.I wish I could have gotten his name, he was the best one out of the ones who handled our table last night! He was all smiles!* Ambience/Cleanliness— The place was clean. They have a little set up outdoors even though they also served food inside. They have heaters near the tables and provide a notice on the table that it has been sanitized. The tables come with a staff buzzer in case you needed them, but we don't like to use those.Even then, they servers came promptly and they were always checking outside in case people needed something. The whole dining experience was smooth from start to finish.* Time in Line/Wait Time— The rest of our party came about 15 minutes after my sisters and I did, and we weren't seated until they arrived, which was okay. There was a waiting area there, but I didn't know whether that was for the restaurant or for Diamond Bakery. We proceeded to take a seat on the bench anyway. It didn't take too long for them to tell us the table was ready once we've let them know that we had a complete party.Favorite thing: The place was very comfortable and Katsu was good!Least favorite thing: The steamed dumplings. I felt like seeing a steam basket full of dumplings and being served cold ones is kind of false advertisement.Overall impression: Food was pretty good, ambience was great, safety measures were pretty solid. We will be back again, I'm sure.

Wonderful modern Chinese restaurant infused and influenced by varied Asian cuisines. The presentation, ambient, customer service and food were all excellent. Theres an outdoor smoking area which is pretty rare in LA and the restaurant is also attached next to the Hilton. Definitely try the green cabbage appetizer, its so unique and delicious.
