Kashiwa Japanese Cuisine
2201 E Willow St suite g, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
I recently revisited Kashiwa after a hiatus during the pandemic, finding that ownership had changed hands. Initially apprehensive about potential changes to the quality of the food, Im pleased to report that my fears were unfounded. With some time to spare, my companion and I decided to pay a visit, and our experience left us happily surprised. One of my favorites maki is the off-menu umeshiso maki, and it is the first time i see it on a menu. Despite having dinner plans in less than two hours, we opted for a few items to savor the moment. The chirashi, priced reasonably at $45.00, was a delightful combination of generous fish portions and the perfect amount of rice. For those undecided, its an excellent choice. In addition to the chirashi, I ordered the umekyu maki, fatty salmon nigiri, and a salmon skin roll. Each dish hit the mark in terms of taste and presentation. The miso soup was a flavorful accompaniment to the meal. The service remained as friendly and attentive as I remembered, and the ambiance, thankfully unchanged, retained the traditional Japanese restaurant feel that Ive always appreciated about Kashiwa. Overall, my return to Kashiwa was not only reassuring but also a reminder of why it has been my favorite place for traditional Japanese sushi in Long Beach.
WaBa Grill
2162 E Willow St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
Down right amazing food. Nice clean place. Fast service. Friendly Staff. This place is great!I honestly didnt think I would Yelp this place walking in, it was just a quick bite on a busy weekend but I was impressed that I had to show them some love.Stepped into WaBa for a quick meal a couple weekends back. I went with WaBa because it was the only place in the shopping center that looked clean and like it would have fresh food. The place was busy but lines move incredibly fast so the busyness really just creates a nice vibe that you usually dont expect at a quick serve place, reaffirming you made the right choice.Service and Food:As soon as I got to the line, we were greeted by multiple members of the staff, Greg who helped us asked if I had ever bee to a WaBa grill before, nope, he continued to explain the menu and tell me his favorite items. I went with the Chicken Salad which was really good. I MEAN REALLY EXCELLENT. Honestly I was surprised at how fresh it was, I expected something a little better than fast food but if I werent sitting there I would have thought my salad came from a tablecloth restaurant. It was fresh as possible, like that mornings produce fresh, no wilted salad served here. The chix cooked perfectly and sauced and seasoned just right.Setup:First, I was amazed how clean the place was. I mean WOW the whole restaurant was shiny! I also really liked the open kitchen behind the counter. You can see the staff hustling on orders and making your food fresh. The layout was also very modern and impressive, it made for a very comfortable meal.Price:I paid around $10 for my food and drink, I gladly would have paid more. The quality and value deserve 5 stars alone.Overall, I will be back, I would recommend to a friend. Next time Im trying the short ribs ( I saw them cooking while I was at the counter and the looked BOMB!)

GeeKo Chicken

I was stunned when I took my first bite of the GeeKo Korean Fried Chicken Wings I literally uttered WOW. The crispiness is unreal! I ordered the 8 piece and opted to pay an extra $1 to choose two flavors, Crispy Original and Honey Soy Garlic. Glad I did! This was a nice option because I enjoyed both flavors without having to order more than I can eat. I appreciate that the chicken wings were not soaked in sauce. The flavor is permeated throughout the chicken wings and the seasoning was glazed onto the crispy coating so they were not soggy soaked in sauce. There was not one drop of sauce in the box yet the chickens were perfectly moist. Thats my preference! And would be a good picnic item because its less messy than your regular KFC. They were tender, hefty sized wings, and the meat fell off the bone. Crispy indeed, without being coated in excessive crunchy batter. The side of cubed radish and ranch dressing was a nice addition to the meal. Being a typical Asian, I paired it with a side of white rice and salad for a balanced meal (good for two servings!). Pro tip: Reheat the wings in an Air fryer at 400 F for two minutes. The owners are a sweet Korean family (Peter, Angie, Annie and another older gentleman - perhaps Mr. G himself?) who were a joy to meet. They were so excited and gracious to serve a customer at closing time. The restaurant is very spacious with ample seating and the parking lot is huge.I look forward to returning on Wednesday for their Spaghetti & Meatball special, kimbap and of course more chicken wing flavors (Yuzu). What a blessing to have delicious fast casual korean food in Signal Hill!
Naga Cafe Khmer Street Food
3225 E Pacific Coast Hwy unit a, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
This is a very very great place, its brand new, the guy said about 7 days the have been open I believe. Anyway, the food was amazing, I told the guy that Im on low carb diet and dont eat bread or rice, he said he will put extra vegetables with my order instead. I got the beef rice bowl. The beef was amazing, it was cooked perfectly! An whatever they marinated it in was great. The vegetables are pickled, really tastes like Korean food, but from what I gathered its Cambodian. The soup they give you with your order is very VERY good. Its chicken broth with other flavors and diced green onions. Really tastes like very good wonton soup broth but better. The thai ice tea is home made, perfect ration of sweet, not too sweet, not overpowering the flavor. They have have sandwiches and other things on the menu, like coffee that I will take a picture when I come back there tomorrow. Definitely reccomend if you want healthy food or just very good fresh food!!!
Big E Pizza
3225 CA-1 C, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
I used to think this was a family place. Til we went and saw the Asian delivery driver (the one who drives a little blue Toyota), just staring at my daughter. The whole way from the time she got out of car til she entered restaurant. I confronted him and he apologized, like that made it better.
Chinese Gourmet
1810 E Willow St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
Ive never been disappointed when I come here. Service is good and food is decent and its very economical. About $8 for a lunch special including chow mein, fried rice, one entree and small soup or vegetable egg roll. Perfect for a quick lunch trip. There are the usual Chinese food suspects from Orange chicken, broccoli beef to a new hot a spicy seafood soup. (I have yet to try). Food here doesnt have the oily residue that some other fast Chinese food places do.Owners are great. Very nice and pleasant all the time. Parking is tight due to the other stores. If youre in the area and feeling some quick Chinese food Chinese Gourmet is your spot.
Champs Deli Restaurant
3200 E Willow St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
This hidden gem in Signal Hill is a great place to stop and have lunch with the family. I ordered the turkey and avocado sandwich, which was delicious with soft bread and lots of turkey. My son had the chicken wrap which they cut up into tiny little circles: he loved it. My wife had the tuna salad which was fresh and crisp. My other son had the chicken teriyaki which comes laid on a bed of soft white rice and an extra cup of teriyaki sauce. We also had some made-from-scratch potato salad and ice cream. Everything was good. The restaurant is clean. They have an all you can drink iced tea station and coffee in the corner, along with a fridge full of canned and bottled beverages that are ice cold. We met the new owners James and Annie, an older Korean couple who have a passion for the business. This new ownership has breathed new life into this Signal Hill restaurant which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year. If youre in the area stop by, I think they also do catering if you have big events or need to order lunch for your entire business. I would definitely recommend this to a friend stopping in for a quick bite to go or anyone wanting to sit down and have a good meal. They have American, Asian, Mexican and all kinds of healthy food.
The Home Depot
751 E Spring St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
Tonight was the final straw. I went to get paint at the homedepot on Spring st in Long beach and Carlos said that he couldnt use the bar code off the sample i had to make a 5 gallon bucket of paint. When i said couldnt you just use the same ratios for a 5 gallon, he said that thats not how it works. I asked him to call the store on Cherry, because they never have any isssues. Long story short, i drove 10 minutes down the road to the store on Cherry and had ny paint in 5 minutes. It was less than a month ago that i had the same issue. This gentleman considered himself tech savy and thought he could work around the issue, only to say the computer was having technical issues. He called the manager, who is a young fit guy, and they could not resolve the issue. Again, I drove 10min down the road and had my paint in 5 minutes. On another occassion i showed up to paint and there was an African American gentleman and a woman with a rainbow apron working. They never acknowledged me standing there. After 5-10min i spoke up only to find out there was about 5 people who had been there longer and unacknowledged. The two were behind the counter doing notthing the whole time. The african American gentleman is very pleasant when i come in, but he really doesnt know the computer program very well. This was my first run in with the woman with a rainbow apron. There is also a silver haired gentleman, who is very knowledgeable about paint, but is not very savy on the computer. He failed to save my colors on a few occassions, but i believe he has worked through the issue. There has been several other time that my colors were not saved or i was told that they couldnt use my sample barcode to make a 5 gallon bucket. I have probably wasted 20hrs over the last year dealing with the paint department at homedepot on Spring st. This department is a joke, and a poor reflection on the store. The employees are not adequately trained, and have wasted too much of my time. I will be doing my business with the store on Cherry from now on, even though they are farther away for me.
TOGOS Sandwiches
1889 E Willow St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
TLDR: the owner didn't honor a coupon that was clearly valid.I came in with a free sandwich coupon that was admittedly a few years old (it floated around the bottom of the “random drawer”). This location was listed and there was no expiration date or any other limitations. I ordered my sandwich and presented the coupon, to which the employee said he needed to call the owner to see if they'd accept it. This led to a 10 minute delay where the employee then asked for a photo of the coupon to send to the owner. The end result was the owner denying the coupon because it was “too old”. I understand it may have been old, but ultimately the best business practice would to be honor it and earn a return customer. I love Togo's food, but the owner of this location is not looking for return business. Disappointing.
Applebees Grill Bar
899 E Spring St, Signal Hill, CA 90755, United States
I've been here a few times and the one thing they are consistent with is over cooking their steaks and salmon. Overall this is a great spot for apps and drinks, but that's about it.Food: 5/10I usually just come here for the apps and the 2/$25-30 deal. The apps are usually pretty good but the last time we went the wings came out cold. Our steaks came out medium, medium well and well done when we asked for medium rare on all three. They asked for two of the steaks to be redone and they came out medium and medium-well with barely any pink. I ended up not eating but my kids were able to. They did take one of the 2/$30 deals off as compensation, and I didn't ask them to and I wasn't expecting them to, so it was appreciated that they did so.Service: 9/10The server and everyone else was super nice and everyone has great work ethic. I hated even having to ask to send my food back, but the steaks were just too over cooked. They were nice about it, but when they messed up the second time and I cut the steak in half to show them, I was told that it was in fact medium rare because they checked the temperature before bringing it to the table. I didn't want to argue because I knew the server was busy and I just told her I simply didn't want it.Ambiance: 10/10Lots of seating, nice and clean environment. Typical Applebees decor and set up.Since I live by here I do enjoy coming by a few times a year, just definitely never getting steak or salmon here.
