Tenmasa Japanese Restaurant
9016 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
We r neighbors, they are good ones. I worried that restaurant food might not be moving/fresh, but we were dying for japanese. Rainbow roll, salmon teriyaki - couple basics for take-out to split w asian lady ( tough audience). Greeted by the family, the senora of the operation opened each one, described it like carol merrill on the price was right. Her hands glided along the perimeter of the styrofoam saying i guarantee this $hit. THE FOOD WAS GLORIOUS! perfect in every way she sold me a big japanese beer and no lie - nirvana. Go here - its like, really japanese.
Crazy Rockn Sushi
7100 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
It was my birthday and the restaurant I wanted to go to had went out of business (not Asian cuisine) so I suggested sushi which I loved I viewed the ratings of many places and this one came up on top. I truly dont know WHY???? THE SERVICE was not great she came to our table a total of 3 times and one of them I had to literally flag her down as did some of the other diners she was kind of nice when she got to the table but it was a what do you want kind of nice. She did charge my daughters phone which was helpful. THE FOOD i have eaten alot of sushi in my days and this was the worst the rolls fell apart the fish was not fresh at all. the salmon taste like what old mop water smells like i was scare to eat it and so was my daughter. It lack real flavor i was just not satisfied with the experience at all I even spoke with my neighboring diners who were regulars before I got my order they said its not the best but it was good I have to disagree we were not happy with our purchase will NEVER eat at CRAZY ROCK N SUSHI AGAIN!
Katana LA
8439 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
We ate here for the first time last night and were very impressed. We came for the sushi and fell in love with the expansive grilled skewer menu. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, from the sea bass to the wagyu beef. Usually a restaurant is able to excel only at one thing, but this place successfully creates top-notch grilled and cold items. The sea bream, Spanish mackerel, and tuna sushi were just as exciting and flavorful as the grilled items. The only thing we didn’t absolutely love was the tuna jalapeño roll, but we figured that was simply a result of being in the context of more exciting dishes. Most importantly - and the reason we came in the first place - is that the vast majority of the menu is gluten free. We’re talking 95% gluten free. Since I can’t eat gluten it’s nice to find a restaurant where I’m not limited to a few small salads. I wish every asian restaurant could discover what the management here has discovered: if you only use gluten free soy sauce at your restaurant, then you open up most of your menu to people who are gluten intolerant. And that’s what they did at katana. They only use gluten free soy sauce here.Another thing that is notable is the friendly staff. My friend and I joke that at Los Angeles restaurants, as price increases, service decreases. It always seems like the nicer, more expensive restaurants employ the coldest, least friendly employees. This is not the case at katana! From the hostess to the bartender to the servers to the food runners - everyone is so nice and friendly. The hiring manager here definitely has a keen eye for great employees. What we ordered for two people: grilled crab leg appetizer, grilled sea bass skewer, ribeye cap with Korean bulgogi sauce, sea bream sushi, Spanish mackerel sushi, tuna sushi, tuna jalapeño sushi roll, ribeye skewers, surf and turf skewers, and 3oz of wagyu beef. All are highly recommended, except the tuna jalapeño roll. And yeah, we over-ate because we were living for these flavors. Total cost with a couple beers (the beers were for my friend): about $300 before tip.

First and foremost let me start by saying Ive been coming here for over 15 years no exaggeration! Granted the food still taste the same but the portions has got small and the price has increased which is ridiculous! We order the barbecue spare ribs and they were so small and they only give you six which is a total of three if you ask me. Are waiter was very nice but not attentive. My husband told her up front that he was paying for a bill for 6 people we had a total of 9 people not one time did she mention when theres a large party it has to be one bill. Every restaurant is different so no one is assuming anything. Waited at least 20 to 25 minutes after I put in an order for a drink to get my drink! I ordered two kids meals orange chicken us adults got our food before my children and when they did get their food it was only one brought out and we had to wait an extra 40 minutes for the second one to be brought out. By this time Im over the service and Im ready to go home. I ASK THE MANNAGER TO SEPARATE THE BILL. ONE BILL HAD 6 PEOPLE ON IT THE OTHER BILL HAD 3 PEOPLE AND SHE STILL TRIED TO CHARGE A SERVICE FEE FOR BOTH CHECKS. When only a service charge is applied to six people or more. Again remind you six people was on one check and three people were on another! I feel like if a manager knows that theyre establishment is short-handed they should be on the floor helping as well instead of blaming it on not having enough people! I am very upset cuz overall we love Chin Chins but in reality Im not sure if we will be going back especially this location they might cater to white people more than black! I say what I mean and I mean what I say am I reviews on Google gets seen. So please do better oh yeah and the prices on the website is not the prices in the store!

Very delicious sushi spot that just blends in with majority of the closed shops near it, especially since the entrance was roped off as if it was actually closed, from the outside. If you're looking for a kikkoman soy sauce spot, this isn't for you.Ordered two carpaccios, one with fresh wasabi and ponzu, can't remember the fish, and another carpaccio, think either halibut or albacore, that had yuzu juice and mushroom and those two dishes were phenomenal. Every bite was simply amazing and irresistible. Great fish quality, not a single piece was questionable in appearance, texture, taste; the quality was delicious. The assorted tempura was crunchy, the batter didn't disintegrate when you dipped it and didn't break up when you were biting it. A delicious batter that kept its integrity and highlighted the beauty of each ingredient being used. Loved having a tempura mushroom and the white fish was a unique and different touch. The nigiri- where the begin. All of it was delicious. For a party of two, we each walked away with eating $190 each which is a lot for how much we ordered truthfully but because the quality of the food was better that majority of the places we had, it was worth it and can't wait to go back. No alcohol either. It was a treat to eat here and treat ourselves. The most delectable and fragile scallops that just melt in your mouth, the albacore was a dance in your mouth as well as anything else that had a drop of yuzu on it. Ended my experience with uni and it was pure velvet. The most underwhelming item I ate was a spicy tuna since I was genuinely curious but I wouldn't order that again and just stick with nigiri. Each nigiri order is 1 piece and sashimi is 2 pieces. Thank you Jinpachi for a cozy atmosphere and a delicious treat- can't wait for more!
Formosa Cafe
7156 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
I recently talked to restauranteur Adam Fleischman about the Formosa Cafe. He said they are revamping the menu.Inspired by Beverly Hill's Red Medicine's Vietnamese-themed menu and bar bites, Red Med at Formosa Café features some of the most popular dishes, including dumplings, spring rolls, bahn-mi, brisket and whole fish to share. My eyes had to adjust quickly as I walked into the dark restaurant to meet a group of foodies. We frequently used our iPhone flashlights to read the menu and snap photos. The walls are still lined with over 250 black and white headshots of some of the most famous actors in the world. There is still a display case showcasing a collection of Elvis Presley decanters and statues above his old booth. One of the head bartenders, Billy Ray arrived at our table with some of the classic cocktails that have been added to the cocktail menu. Bartender Matthew Boddie created a ginger daiquiri a la Central, pisco apricot Tropicale and the Singapore Sling for us to enjoy. We were told that gangster Mickey Cohen ruled the underground of liquor, women and cash at Formosa Café. His safe was built into the flooring between the two front booths to the left of the front door.Interesting dishes include the entirely green Rock shrimp dish with layers of avocado. The marinated eggplant offers vivid flavors of garlic, sesame, and celery that almost vibrated in my palate.I enjoyed the ethereal Shanghai rice cakes that tasted like little chewy dough pillows dusted with bacon, shishito and Thai basil. The chicken wings are a Red Medicine recipe rolled in flavorful crumbs, fish sauce lime and Thai chile, that spices the wings with aromatic flavors. The crispy spring rolls are deep fried and stuffed with a healthy dose of crab and Asian herbs.Everyone at the table enjoyed the oyster mushrooms with crisp haricot vert beans, and a French chili pepper from Espelette mixed in with the oyster sauce.Large parities may want to go straight to The Group Effort column on the menu for plates of tender Wagyu Beef Brisker braised in a secret plum sauce for 36 hours or a deep fried whole black bass that arrives whole. The server filets it to reveal light colored and moist fish with a crispy crust. These dishes easily feed three to four guests. The Formosa Café is open for dinner at 4 p.m. until the 2 a.m. “last call.” Parking is available in the West Hollywood Gateway parking garage.

Amazing view and location. The staff are very professional and friendly. We had some cocktails, oysters, toro, and the Peking duck. The cocktails were great. My gf loved the oysters and toro. The only downside was the peking duck and the price. The presentation is nice. They bring it out for you and show you the whole roast duck. But the duck was dry and bland. They give you a wrap and sauce to eat it with but even with them, it’s just subpar at best. It is super expensive. It was around $130. You’ll have a much better duck at a real asian restaurant at 1/5 of the price. I’d recommend the place for the view and other food. Just don’t get the duck.
