China King restaurant
5915 Calle Real # b, Goleta, CA 93117, United States
Food is phenomenal! Service is quite litterally THE WORST ANYWHERE! 4 out of 5 times I have ordered they have confirmed my order over the phone, telling me to arrive in 15 minutes to pick up my order, only to have them pull my order from the wait check stack and submit it to the kitchen 20 minutes after I get there. The younger staff are rude. I dont know ANY chinese resteraunt where rice does not come with an entree. The teenage waiter ARGUED AND INSULTED a dine in customer who had the temerity to ask for the rice she was promised ON THE MENU. One of their delivery boys has a fake handicap placard that he uses to park in front of the resteraunt. Overall, I would give them 0 stars if the fokd wasnt soooo good! I am beginning to rethink whether or not the lack of service is worth the margin of food superiority.
Lao Wang
6530 Pardall Rd SUIT.B, Goleta, CA 93117, United States
Lao Wang YUMMMmm, this is by far the safest and my go-to option in IV (imo). The food here is always consistent! I got the sweet and sour chicken rice bowl with an add on of garlic tofu and let me tellll you, its delicious! The chicken is crisp and tender with a coat of their homemade sweet and sour sauce, added on was fried tofu in their yummy garlic sauce, and the bowl comes with egg roll, corn, and Mac salad! I also tried their spam, Chinese sausage and popcorn chicken buns. This was a flavorful appetizer. I highly recommend trying them with spicy mayo and jalapeños that they provide in the dining room. And lastly, for this meal, I ordered the curry chicken fingers. As you bite into this, you can see the coat of curry sitting in between the chicken and batter. It is flavorful in itself, but dipped in ranch is even better! To quench your thirst, they have a variety of beverages like tea in the fridge (my fav is the herbal tea). Josh, the manager, definitely does a great job in recommending which items are good for you, and esp if its your first visit, hell eagerly want to present the menu to you. I highly recommend you try this place out and ask Josh for recs. Also its right outside Pardall tunnel, very close to campus!

This is what you need on an overcast day. The broth was excellent as far as restaurant broths go. I got the P4 - rare steak and beef meatballs (with tiny chewy tendons in the meatballs). This is authentic, not watered down pho, served the proper garnishes (Thai basil and bean sprouts). It's a light soup, despite the beef and the smaller portion was more than enough for me.Does the broth have msg? Probably, but you have to realize that a dash of msg in a giant vat of broth is different than msg sprinkled into every dish at a Chinese restaurant. I'm sensitive to msg but didn't get a headache here. The service was super fast and my pho came out within 5 minutes of arrival. Is the staff super friendly? Not really, but they're not rude. My people have been through A LOT. ? The restaurant was very clean and the pho was top notch!
Meun Fan Thai Caf
5664 Calle Real, Goleta, CA 93117, United States
One of the worst dinning experiences I have had. When we arrived the only bathroom was closed for cleaning, and was still closed for cleaning when we finished our meal an hour later. So my partner never got to pee and we were unable to wash our hands before eating. Our server (a job I did for many years) seems annoyed every time we called her over to refill water or do any of the other things that are her responsibilities. She was eating in plain sight throughout our time there, and not washing her hands in between. When asked if they could put chicken on the side for one of our orders since someone at our table was vegetarian, she said they dont do that. We had to order with chicken or vegetarian. The food was horrible, and we love Thai food and have been to Thailand. There are much better options in town than this restaurant, if you can call it that.
Storke Plaza

Has most of the standard shopping mall essentials (e.g., convenient store, various dinning opt., Convenience store, laundromat, etc.Having to compete with the newer more recently constructed larger Camino real plaza just on the other side of the road is no easy task and yet this plaza has arguably met that that expectation.Disclosure:I work within a block of the mentioned plazas. My personal opinion is informed by my own anecdotal observations of how this plaza has made continuous improvements to its market value in recent years. That is to say, the existing businesses & each new business added since Target began setting-up shop has a market value added, due to their niche markets, that dont tend to align well with newer construction projects, case and point, how likely are you to see a new laundromat or small convenience store move in to Camino Real plaza?
Saigon Noodle House

1st time here. Decided to give this place a try for lunch. Its big and pretty spacious. Has plenty of settings and tables. There was a good amount of people in there this afternoon. Thats a pretty good sign. Before going to the food I just want to put this out there. The white dude with the little chain around his neck, if youre reading this, please just quit. I see the way you questioned us, your tone of voice, the way you hand customers their drinks and the way you approach customers is not a good look. When folks thank you for providing service, be nice and respond back. Dont just walk off with that little pout on your face. When I came up to pay the bill, you ask us in the most rudest way possible. That is until I responded back disrespectfully to you. You simmered down your attitude a bit.
Uniboil Phresh Teas Co.

Fun, interesting menu. If you enjoy spicy, Id recommend coming here! Its definitely great to enjoy with friends because the entire experience is fairly unique. Possibly a little pricey, but there is a whole experience that comes along with the meal so it evens out a bit.On to the food... The sizzling plate with rice is great, though the sauce is quite spicy (black pepper spiciness)... and HOT! You have to be very careful eating to not burn yourself on the metal plate. However the meat was delicious! Marinated/seasoned very well. It was a pity the sauce was so spicy vs flavorful because the meat was amazing. A bit hard to fully enjoy such incredibly hot food. The Korean Army stew is also good, but again, HOT! The stew contents are interesting with various textures and flavors. For the hot plates, after a certain point in your meal someone may come to put out the flame for you, but Im sure you can request it be put out sooner... I recommend! All the servers seem to have the fire-putting-out utensil on their aprons.Overall, this was a fun eating experience. Regarding the food, it felt as though spiciness was used as a crutch for flavor. The hot plate box was also too tall for me (below average height) and made it a little difficult to eat. It would be nice if they had the option for low tables or something. The difficulty with the height + the danger of the hot plate took away from the experience a little. The service was good and the servers were attentive and informative. It is not listed on the menu but there is an option for the sizzling plate with rice to have all the ingredients stir fried and brought out on a plate instead of on the hot plate. The server let us in on his preference which was that the hot plate was better and definitely more fun, but next time if I dont feel like dealing with the height, heat, or potential burns, Ill go for that option!**NOTE: If you are only going for drinks, go next door! No need to come into the restaurant area**
Panda Express
131 N Fairview Ave, Goleta, CA 93117, United States
I really enjoy the food at Panda Express but the portions are abitrary and inconsistent. This is irritating. A tall man orders the same thing as me and gets a much larger portion. Whats up with that?? Another problem is that they are so focused on getting people through the line that they dont fully attend to the person in front of them. Be present fpr each customer. The next one will understand as they, in turn, receive the best in customer service. Please, Panda Express Goleta (and elsewhere, and other service organizations) dont be in a rush to attend to the next person. We will all feel slighted and no one is well served by this approach. Havent you ever been customers yourselves?
