Can a food business be appraised by trying only one item? According to Winnepeg Taylor, a talented but unknown Chef, yes. Very much so. Aside from soda machines and fortune cookies, each item in the menu stands alone at the end of the day. Cathay Chinese Food was busy at approximately 4:30 PM on this warm Saturday in Menifee, CA. The food on display, served combination style, a la Panda Express, looked breaded, mostly sweet coated, and no different than any similar type, where the customer requests their preference, and in this case two lovely servers of the female persuasion, non oriental, served what appeared generous amounts of the available choices. It is a well known fact that Chinese places of this kind, sweeten most of their entrees, where savory dishes are far and few in between. There is a definite appeal to the American public for all things sweet: Sweet and Sour Pork, Orange Chicken, BBQ Pork, etc., and of course the fried part. According to the statistics Chinese food beats all the McDonalds, Burger Kings and Taco Bells combined, with over 40,000 Chinese eateries in the USA.I ordered Egg Rolls, Vegetables and the little more fatter and expensive, Chicken. Yes, that was it, to the tune of $12 plus. First, the chicken had barely any chicken, and frankly tasted mediocrely, and the vegetable was even worst. 2 Stars at most. Service and cleanliness earned the last star.

I could not believe we found the BEST Chinese Restaurant in Woodlake. We were passing the little town of Woodlake and was craving for some REAL Chinese food this time. I must say this place is the BEST with GREAT FOOD, EXCELLENT customer service, and BEST PRICE Ever. I love the sizzling seafood, kung pao chicken, best honey walnut shrimp and so much more. I would drive 2.5 hrs just to visit this restaurant. Love it!!

I got some food at this place yesterday as i seen it when i was passing by omw home from work. Thought id give it a shot, i walk in there are empty boxes everywhere, looked like somebody was moving. Not an enviroment to sit down and eat, i overlooked that becausr i was hungry. I asked the lady what different sizes they had of chow mein & rice they had, she just assumed i was getting it, didnt even show me the size and proceded to start putting chow mein in a container until i stopped her and said i would like to see the size before i decide if i wanted to purchase it because i was feeding a family of four. She than rudely showed me the container like it was a problem. I said ok, i guess ill get that since me and my family was very hungry. I than got some rice & i seen some pork short ribs for $15 on their menu that looked pretty good on the picture so i side i would that too, she then said there is only 4 ribs, and if i ask wanted it still. I told her yes, i would still get them even though that was very expensive. So i get the food & get home & the ribs WERENT EVEN PORK SHORT RIBS, they were long beef ribs! This place was horrible!! & the service was even worse! & i didnt even mention another couple people walked in and asked if they were doing dine in, & the lady responded, you guys come up to the counter order your food & go sit down. Just because she didnt want to serve & wait on them . Just absolutely horrible! Dont go here!!

Opted to wait for fresh rice to be cooked instead of getting the bottom of the bowl old rice. The fresh rice was disappointing due to being hard and obviously undercooked. For a Chinese restaurant to not be able to cook rice properly is quite sad.

Egg Roll King really is the king! The food was great, the service is great, the atmosphere of this place was nice and clean, and the price was right! For three combos it was 33 bucks. Whenever I walk into it, the aroma of Chinese food fills in, the first day I came here, i knew it was our go to Chinese restaurant. I will be coming back here, for years to come.

My wife and I chose a nearby place on Google at random to have brunch at with a friend. I know the area and could not figure out where this restaurant might be hiding. When we arrived, I realized that it was part of Stones casino. I was admittedly hesitant at first, but we gave it a shot. Once we opened the door, we were all pleasantly surprised. Sammies is very spacious with a very classy and modern feel. The decor it very inviting and pleasing to look at. The art and colors are beautiful. High ceilings and colored glass windows create a very enchanting ambiance. Very calm and quiet, there is a bar in the center with TVs on the walls. Somehow, the TVs are not at all distracting or intrusive. The dining room was clean and the staff seemed happy and helpful. It was open seating so we chose a spot by the window. The menu had nice options across a few catagories without being overwhelming. There was a bit of sticker shock though for sure. We ordered the duck tacos to start. I had the salt and pepper shrimp, my wife had the breakfast croissant sandwich, my daughter had lemon blueberry pancakes and my friend had the make your own omlette, choosing an all meat mixture. When the food arrived, we were all floored. The duck tacos came first. A beautiful display of mini tacos garnished with cream and cilantro. They were incredible and worth the trip all by themselves. Crispy, flavorful, elevated and well designed. There is absolutely nothing I would have changed about them. You have to try these. Each of our entrees were just as noteworthy. The shrimp dish was definitely my favorite. A symphonic blend of flavors that beats any salt and pepper Chinese dish I have had anywhere. I will be dreaming of this for months to come. The croissant was large and crafted with care. Grilled tomatoes, flaky pastry, savory sausage. It hit the mark better than we could have imagined. The pancakes were yet another love letter to building flavors. The lemon pancakes were just the right amount of tartness and flavor to compliment the blueberries in a way that made us all ask why this wasnt available everywhere. Finally, my friends omlette kept the train running with wonderful execution and on the mark flavors. Once all was said and done, we agreed that the price was right and the food was a few steps above anything in the area. If they transported themselves to a trendier area of Sacramento, their food would be welcomed with open arms. Thank you Sammies. It is good to know that we have a foodie diamond right in the neighborhood! We will be back soon.

If I could give zero stars,, I would. My husband and I have been to JJ’S Sushi and Chinese food in Murrieta a few times and never again. Tonight, was the last straw because of the service. My husband and I both think the food at JJ’s Sushi and Chinese food is decent. Last time, we had a waitress we didn’t care for because she made multiple mistakes and wasn’t very friendly. Unfortunately, we received the same server this evening. My husband wanted to order an appetizer and simply wanted our appetizer to come out before our Entrees. The waitress said “No, the appetizer would have to come out at the same time because it takes 10-15 minutes. We said, we don’t mind waiting and she still refused to bring out the appetizer prior to our Enrtes. We decided to not order the appetizer because of her refusal for our request, which truly is very simple. She never once checked on us and asked how our food was. When one goes out to eat, service should be friendly, attentive, and accommodating in addition to good food. Since we received lousy service it soured our experience at JJ’s Sushi and Chinese food and neither my husband or I care to dine there ever again. There are too many other restaurants in the area and surrounding (Menifee, Murrieta, and Temecula ) that provide both good food and service, with a nice atmosphere. We don’t need to tolerate lousy service.

Ralphs also has Starbucks inside. Its just nice where you can find a few food chain around here when tou get hungry?
