New Canton Restaurant & Bar
13015 Philadelphia St, Whittier, CA 90601, United States
I went to New Canton restaurant with my husband and really enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. The food was excellent and decor was most wonderful.I enjoyed the three flavor soup (shrimp, chicken, beef) with sizzling rice and the ground pork noodle with brown sauce. The soup was flavorful and the noodle dish tasted authentic (just like the Chinese dish Zha Jian Mian that I like very much). The decor was top of any Chinese restaurant Ive ever been to because of decorative items were certain chosen with care and an artists eye. The one painting with a few Chinese women from ancient China enjoying music, chess, book/painting is very beautiful. Other items like Chinese vases or horse figurines are equally exquisite.I hope more people get to experience this wonderful restaurant in Whittier. The restaurant is close to the Hsi Lai Temple, which is convenient if you would like a leisurely and delightful stroll after dining at this excellent New Canton restaurant.

It’s a little quaint, mom and pop restaurant that recently opened up. I walked by it a few weeks ago and I finally came in today. I ordered the 2 Item Chinese food combo with chow mei, broccoli beef and orange chicken and hands down, bomb! Give it a try and support the local business! They also make Mexican food, Mexinese food in East LA. The prices are pretty good for the amount that they give you. I would just say fill the chow mei to the only side, I feel like we got less meat and more chow Mei. Make it fair, we are paying.

Oriental Chinese Restaurant

This place is really good for the price. Staff is very friendly. Would recommend looking at their daily specials. Daily specials come with rice, your meat, cup of soup, egg roll, and a paper wrapped chicken. For two people getting the daily special with water and hot tea I normally spend about 20 dollars before tip. Sweet and sour chicken & orange chicken is good. Mongolian beef has alot of onions but has good flavor. Hot tea is free. This post was from 5 years ago, and since then alot has changed It has changed owners a couple of times. I believe it recently changed owners again, so hopefully, they will change it for the better. Since the first owners left, they were two asian ladies, it kind of went downhill. Its the little things such as removing the peas and carrots from the fried rice, changing the egg rolls, and changing the recipies of things; the orange chicken used to be juicy and freshly fried to a crisp. The last time i had the orange chicken it tasted like a fast food chinese takeout place, amd not in a good way.Things like that matter, so Im hoping the new people make it deserve the 5 stars I put up 5 years ago. I recently went back to get my favorite hot and sour soup, and it was okay but not great. The previous owners, with glasses, had the soup tasting bland, and I would hardly ever have the thin mushrooms in it anymore; hardly any tofu either. This last time, with different people, still no mushrooms, but more tofu; which is awesome. However, I think they put sugar because it had a sweet after taste, which was a little off-putting. I have great hope for this place because I would always recommend it to everyone and I would bring my friends and family to eat here. An elderly family friend, before she died, would always rant and rave about this place. Ill be returning soon to see how things change, hopefully for the better.

So we stopped to try this place as it welcomed us with their sign in Spanish. The place was clean and well maintained it had an A posted and gave us a good vibe. As we walked in there was a variety of selections like any other Chinese food restaurant. I was going to wait until I tried more food, but it was a bit out of my way and the food was not the best. It is good if youre in the area. The noodles had way too much pepper. The rice, BBQ pork, and orange chicken were good. The chicken and green beans were nothing to rave about. Egg rolls were fine. I wanted to try the wontons, but $1 for one wonton just seemed excessive (egg rolls were a dollar too). 20¢ extra charge for the egg roll sauce and I was sharing, but they said no one sauce only for 2 egg rolls I said I wanted one and my friend wants one egg roll and we dont want to share. The response was 20¢ so we paid 20¢ and waited for the fresh noodles, and rice, but I dont think we will return. The food was not that memorable.
