Cozy Japanese restaurant in downtown Berkeley with delicious dishes to offer!
Kirala
2100 Ward St, Berkeley, CA 94705, United States
Came with no expectations or judgement but with the knowledge that was my sisters favorite Japanese restaurant. Place is small (boutique) with an avid service team, electronic waiting list and one discovery: kitchen special. You must get early to enjoy it. Seems like is their signature plate for a good price (I was late). Ambience has good, sound was unbearable (recon: sound elimination system). Food was prompt tasty, well presented and fresh very very. Service team work like a swiss in every aspect. So why not 5 stars? Sound. Fix that and you have the jewel of the finest Japanese restaurant in Berkeley
Cha-Ya
1686 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94709, United States
I went to Cha-Ya tonight and was very excited to find a place that has vegan and vegetarian food.Looking at the menu guessed there will be sesame seed in some of the food they makeAsked our server before ordering if they could keep an eye on the ingredients and watch out for any sesame seeds or sesame oil as I am deathly allergic to it.Our waitress assured us that there will be no sesame seeds/oil in any of our food since we were all sharing...3 out of 4 of our food came first and when finally my food came in to the table we were all done with our food and I found so many seeds in the food :-|When brought to the waitress attention she acted very annoyed and careless and then let us know that there is no way they could separate the seed from the food and that probably there are seeds left on the cutting board...I am very disappointed and upset for the fact that they couldve let us know from the beginning. so I could decide about staying or leaving before ordering so then l wouldnt have to deal with my allergies and having to go to ER ( apparently the food we also shared had sesame seeds in it )The service was below average and the waitress was forgetful... we ordered extra ginger and we never received it and we waited for the bill for over 20 minsVery disappointed- wont come back to this place ever again...
Musashi
2126 Dwight Way, Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
This place is amazing, and is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants Ive tried in Berkeley. Go with the chirashi bowl and traditional dishes here; this is definitely not the place for Americanized sushi rolls or Asian fusion dishes
Asaka Sushi & Bar
1580 Hopkins St, Berkeley, CA 94707, United States
We have been three times in the last three weeks. This will soon become my go to Japanese restaurant in Berkeley. Tempura is simply perfect!
Nikko Sushi
2399 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
They take phone orders as well as delivery via the usual outlets. We were looking for a Japanese restaurant in the downtown Berkeley area, and came across Nikko Sushi. I got a bento box, and my sweetie got sushi (I prefer my fish cooked). But at Nikko, we both had what we liked. Everything was really good. Am looking forward to returning when indoor dining resumes.
KoJa Kitchen
2395 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
Neat little Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant. Fries look better than they actually tastes. A little pricy but good quantity. I could see myself craving this from time to time.
Sushinista
2235 Milvia St, Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
Portobello mushroom burrito was amazing but would be a bit too messy to eat while driving. It feels more like Japan in there than in most other Bay Area Japanese restaurants.
Akis Japanese Restaurant
2505 Hearst Ave C, Berkeley, CA 94709, United States
The food was good but I got a lot of hair in my makis. I am not exagerating like some angry/upset people when they leave a review. There was hair under the makis, in the makis, it was really gross. It can happen that you have hair but not that much! Looked like someone had turned bold making the makis. My friend told an employee immediately and they gave me other makis but they didnt apologize at all and brought back the makis with all the hair as well just in case you want them anyway. At the end a manager came to take the empty plates and I told her what happened. She didnt even look at me and only answered yes but we gave you some others. Should I feel like I owe them something because they gave me makis with no hair?Because the customer service is horrible and I am not sure of the hygiene in the kitchen I dont recommend that place at all.
Champions CURRY
2506 Channing Way, Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
Once again, I love the Japanese concept of self service. Order yourself, seat yourself, get your own water. No need for tipping. The foods is awesome and as authentic as you can get away from Japan. I love the Curry, and the spice level is just right. While the prices are bit high, thats to be expected. I hope these authentic Japanese restaurants are successful and stay open. I will support them as much as I can. This place alone has me thinking of visiting Kanazawa someday. I am extremely impressed, and I will return for sure.
