Kru Contemporary Japanese Cuisine
3135 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95816, United States
On Thursday, January 11, we visited Kru/Contemporary Japanese Cuisine in Sacramento. Drawn by its promising reviews and higher-end pricing, we had expectations of a quality dining experience. Our reservation was made well in advance, with limited time slots available, a sign of the restaurants anticipated busyness.Upon our arrival, the restaurant was indeed bustling, filled to capacity both at the tables and the bar. Our order comprised Sapporo, a cocktail, and a rainbow roll, a standard benchmark we use to assess sushi establishments. However, the service immediately fell short of our expectations. We experienced a significant delay in receiving our first roll, and the wait for our simple drinks orders was even longer. This was particularly frustrating, as we sat looking at our sushi, unable to enjoy it as we had intended with our beverages. The food itself was underwhelming. The soft shell crab hand roll was tasteless, with burnt and tough tempura. Though these early issues marred our experience, we remained hopeful for an improvement. However, as the restaurant gradually emptied, our waiter seemed to forget about us. Thankfully, another server was more attentive and assisted us multiple times. Our frustration eventually necessitated a conversation with the manager, who was apologetic and offered us a gift card as compensation.Given the restaurants booking system, they should have a clear idea of how busy they will be and thus staff accordingly. Yet, the service suggested otherwise. Our next visit was today, for a takeout order using the gift card. We were again inconvenienced by the restaurant’s policy against phone orders. The wait for our order, placed in person, was an unwelcome 25 minutes, especially with a child waiting with us.To add to the disappointment, our simple request for extra ginger and wasabi was overlooked, indicating a lack of attention to customer service details. In summary, despite its upscale pretensions, Kru/Contemporary Japanese Cuisines service and food quality are average, with limited variety for a Japanese restaurant. Considering our experiences, we cannot recommend this establishment. Or, we strongly recommend NOT going there.

Best service I’ve ever had. Food came out very quick and waiters were attentive. Food was great as well. Definitely top 2 Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to.
Umami Ramen
187 Blue Ravine Rd Ste 160, Folsom, CA 95630, United States
This is a solid ramen place, and the first one weve been to in the Sacramento area (coming from Orange County). You can definitely get better value, proportion and quality wise in SoCal, but this place gets it done and is definitely worth trying if you love ramen. Id rate it a 4.5/5 for the area and 3.5/5 for my favorite ramen places.Solid restaurant with a decent modern aesthetic and unique ordering system where you order from kiosk/tablet. No outdoor seating/dining.We got the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen with an extra side of corn (+1.50). Right off the bat, I could tell its decent ramen. Flavor of the broth is fairly balanced and not too oily while still having a very rich pork broth. We got the spicy flavor, which is moderately spicy, still leaves a burning sensation on the lips.Ingredients tasted pretty fresh (shredded black mushrooms, bamboo shoots, shredded green onions, and bean sprouts). The softboiled egg had a nice gelatinous yolk, but quite a bit on the sweet side. The chashu had a good flavor, although it was slightly dry/tough, but otherwise decent. Noodles had a solid texture but my girlfriend complained it lacked flavor somehow. This was a solid ramen. They gave complimentary green tea ice cream which was actually pretty good and worth a try. It had a hard to describe perfumey flavor that wasnt the same as other green tea ice cream. The texture was more like gelato, soft and creamy, and it wasnt overbearingly sweet. It tasted homemade in a good way (I asked and it isnt). I would order this.
Shogun Hibachi Grill & Sushi
1870 Prairie City Rd #600, Folsom, CA 95630, United States
Rating: (5/5) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shogun Hibachi Grill & Sushi; it was a delightful experience from start to finish. This hidden gem surpassed my expectations in terms of both quality and value, and I cant wait to share my wonderful experience with you.Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately drawn to the charming ambiance. The dim lighting added a touch of intimacy and enhanced the overall hibachi dining experience. It was a perfect blend of elegance and relaxation, making it an ideal spot for a casual yet memorable meal.As my dining companion and I were not planning to indulge in a large feast, we opted for sashimi and sushi appetizers. This turned out to be an excellent choice for those seeking a lighter option without compromising on flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely reasonable pricing, considering the caliber of the restaurant. Shogun Hibachi Grill & Sushi truly offers great value for your money. One standout aspect of this restaurant is its impressive selection of sake. Unlike many other Japanese restaurants, Shogun Hibachi Grill & Sushi boasts a wide variety of sake on its menu. As a sake appreciator myself, I was thrilled to discover their diverse and carefully curated offerings. I tried the Junmai sake, and I must say, its exquisite taste lingered on my palate, leaving me truly impressed. In addition to their sake selection, I was pleased to find a great variety of Japanese beers available. On this particular hot summer day (7/14/2023), my family and I chose the big-size Kirin and Sapporo beers.Speaking of the food, let me assure you that the quality is outstanding. While it may not be the absolute best sushi Ive ever had, it certainly lives up to the value it offers. The sashimi was fresh and flavorful, and the sushi was skillfully crafted, showcasing the chefs expertise and attention to detail. Now, I must confess that we didnt have the opportunity to try their hibachi or oysters this time around. However, based on the overall experience and the friendly staffs enthusiastic recommendations, Im certain that the hibachi and oysters are equally delightful and worthy of a return visit.Speaking of the staff, I cannot emphasize enough how friendly and professional they were. Their warm hospitality made us feel right at home. They were more than happy to offer suggestions and recommendations, making the entire dining experience enjoyable.Shogun Hibachi Grill & Sushi is a hidden gem that deserves recognition. I know for certain that my dining companion and I will be returning soon, eager to explore the delights of their hibachi and oyster dishes.
Teriyaki Stop
185 Blue Ravine Rd, Folsom, CA 95630, United States
This place was alright. I went here with some co-workers for a lunch time gathering. The food was alright but its very much a fast-casual style restaurant. Think Chipotle for Japanese food.It was good for what it was, but I wouldnt go out of my way to eat here.
Nihon Whisky Lounge
1779 Folsom St, San Francisco, CA 94103, United States
Holy disappointment. I have tried the cocktails here (lychee mermaid) and had enjoyed it. Drinks I think are good. As for food, dont waste your time. The food is insanely overpriced. And thats for San Francisco!Teeny tiny portions at giant prices. Not a great combination. We had:* 2 Uni Spoon (uni with quail egg) - each order only comes with a single spoonful, which is a bit insane at $12/spoon. Instead of it being a creamy bite of uni with some notes of the other flavors, the quail egg and soy sauce overwhelmed the uni.* Torchy my Belly - good but tiny. I had hoped it would be nice chunks of salmon belly instead of thin slivers* Japanese Chicken Wings - $15(?); 5 small tiny chicken wings. The size of quail wings but without the taste. Sigh.* Salmon Roll with Lemon and Salt - Salty to the point (they put a good amount of sea salt over it) to the point you cant taste the salmon. Whats the point of using good ingredients if you cant taste it?* Millionaire cocktail - $18; good. Also: I had called several times in hopes of getting a same-day reservation but was always told they couldnt accommodate me. When we showed up, we found out half the upstairs was empty. Even then, it took about 20 minutes before even one server started talking to us. She wasnt even our server. Apparently the server for our table was nowhere to be found until she showed up much later.Edit: Forgot to mention - the decoration is really nice though.
Vons Chicken - East Sacramento
6601 Folsom Blvd #100, Sacramento, CA 95819, United States
I could have gotten yummy Korean BBQ, I could have had a yummy hotpot. I could have had so many other yummy things, but instead I had Vons chicken.Had to try cause of the reviews, found only regret, and absolutely nothing special.Overpriced chicken, it makes me have massive buyers remorse cause I can think of so many yummier things I could have eaten than this. The honey butter chicken - I guess I shouldnt have ordered this, it was basically dessertThe garlic chicken - was an interesting flavor and not in a good way, like sweet garlic syrup drenched through, that makes the chicken increasingly soggy with each passing second. I shouldnt have ordered this either. There was a miscommunication, I guess, and the fact I wanted Combo plate didnt register at check out, and I never got it.The Lion King Roll - is a sweet Teriyaki flavor. I didnt like it.The crunchy roll - is a sweet flavor.... I didnt like it.Everything was so unexpectedly sweet. It kinda grossed me out of this place. The fact nothing was savoury or yummy after spending $60 here is a big disappointment to say the least.I think I should have ordered a mild or medium crunchy wings and I might have had a better experience, but with what I did order, it was just very mid overpriced sugary food.
Sae Jong Teriyaki

Food was good enough but since there was only one person attending tables and in charge of register it took a while for food to be served, even tho place was not very full (only big party as us was a group of ladies that were done when we arrived but overstayed chatting, the other 3 tables were of 2 person seated and their food was already served), it was 7 on our table and we got 5 forks and 4 napkins, we asked for chopsticks instead but they only gave us 4 so, some of us got to use forks and the rest used chopsticks but we had to go get more napkins from upfront (they sat us in the back room), also one of the tea cups was dirty inside. The friends we were with, told us it used to be an excellent service and the food was delicious but this time was just OK for them, food portions and price were reasonable but since I was really hungry my plate felt good to me but not to them who already knew the place. Hope they manage to get more employees to recuperate their prestige.
Hisui Sushi
25004 Blue Ravine Rd Ste 107, Folsom, CA 95630, United States
I am a nigiri sushi eater. I had tried this restaurant few times when they offered all you can eat, pre pandemic. The slices of fish meats were so thin you could see through them. And big rice balls! You typically expect that from all you can eat establishments. But these were the worst I had ever seen Because of the pandemic, I recently ordered the nigiri sushi to go and they were not all you can eat. I assumed they would be comparable to other sushi restaurant nigiri sushi at full price. My mistake. They were still paper thin slice of fish meat, the same as all you can eat. I dont understand why this place get voted best Japanese restaurant in Folsom/El DoradoHills area by a local magazine. I am not going back there.
