The IZAKA-YA by KATSU-YA Manhattan Beach
1133 Highland Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States
This is a much better than average Japanese restaurant with great prices considering it is downtown Manhattan Beach. The small plates are excellent for two people to share. The presentations are better than average and the flavors are what you would expect in a more upscale Japanese restaurant. The casual atmosphere is welcoming even though it is bit loud in the dining room due to the sparse furnishings and abundance of hard surfaces. Overall, if you want tasty Japanese food at a reasonable price, this is a good choice.
RICE Healthy Japanese Dining
820 Manhattan Ave STE 105, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States
Gluten free Celiac japanese food is extremely hard to find. But there are like 5 dedicated gluten free Japanese restaurants in the LA region, and RICE is a gem of a find in Manhattan Beach. The staff are so friendly and kind, and the food is phenomenal (even if you dont have a gluten allergy). Gluten free battered fried shrimp, soft shell crab, and chewy ramen noodles - so packed with flavor and texture. This is a new favorite restaurant. Five Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a date on Sunday evening. It was such a right choice for us to go to Manhattan beach & have dinner. We planned to go to Sugarfish but changed our mind in the last minute. The service & atmosphere is nice. Asian style, they take care abt their clients. The food is good & affordable. The seasoning is a lil bit plain. If you have tried Japanese food before, the flavor is Japanese. But if not, you should try. I love fresh sashimi but my bf, he liked fried chicken & others. So the bill is $73. I think it’s affordable in this nice restaurant & in Manhattan beach.
The Rice Teriyaki Sushi Roll
1570 Rosecrans Ave, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States
Had lunch here today. Overall Id give it 3.5 stars... I mean it wasnt great...but it wasnt bad either. The ordering process was pleasant with friendly employees. I ordered a fountain drink and they have one of those machines that dispenses any soft drink you want at the touch of a button so thats nice.I ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl large size. It came with vegetables that were pretty tasty. I also ordered with brown rice and the rice was fine no problems. The only slight issue I had was the chicken itself. It tastes a little bland to me and although it looked like a lot, when you actually separated the vegetables away the chicken only took up about half the bowl area...i wouldve expected more from a large size serving...they gave extra sauce cups which was nice (I ordered to go) but even after emptying both sauce cups on the rice and chicken it still was a little lacking in flavor. Again it didnt taste bad...it just didnt have a whole lot of taste.Compared to rice things and aloha teriyaki (my go to teri chicken places in the neighborhood) I would rate this place 3rd.

If you are in South Bay/ Manhattan Beach / Los Angeles and love Sushi, sashimi, rice bowls or Ramen, then you MUST visit this small authentic Japanese establishment. Pros: fresh seafood, reasonable prices, friendly service. Cons: husband and wife team so make sure you order in advance for take-out, or come early or during off-peak period; very limited seating. I had tried crunchy Spicy tuna roll, spicy scallops roll, chirashi special mix bowl, spicy miso ramen. I'm very discerning where food is concerned, and I give them 10/10 !
Silverlake Ramen
3360 N Sepulveda Blvd suite N 140, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, United States
The service was great. The food was terrible. It doesn’t taste anything like Japanese ramen(I have been to over 30 Japanese ramen restaurants).I’m not sure if it was “Americanized” because I’ve never tasted anything like it. The soup also had a strong smell of pork which made it worse. If you’re used to eating original Japanese ramen, I don’t recommend it.

Came here for my birthday lunch, and it happened to be their 11th Anniversary. We were excited to try their prefix lobster boil menu. The meal and experience was a mixed bag.The Good: The cocktails are great, tasty and well presented. The food here is excellent, everything was well seasoned and balanced. The flavors were interesting and enjoyable. For their anniversary menu we had Salmon Tartare with potato chips and a Hamachi sashimi in an apple ponzu sauce. Both amazing. For the second course, we had halibut in a chive buerre Blanc sauce. I could eat this dish everyday and be perfectly happy. For the third course, we had the New England Lobster boil. Also amazing. And for dessert, probably the best key lime pie Ive ever tasted. The Bad: The dining space is super tight so if you have to get up in the middle of your meal and youre sitting up against the wall, be prepared to do a little sideway shimmy in between the tables which can be a little awkward if both your tables are full of food and glasses. Also, all ingredients arent listed on the menu either. For instance for the salmon tartare, there were yellow dollops of a delicious sauce but we had no idea what it was and our lobster boil had sausages and carrots in it but wasnt listed (the boyfriend doesnt eat pork). The Ugly: The bread served with the lobster boil had 2 short strands of hair mixed in the butter they slathered on top of it. In addition to that, our lobster boil didnt come with corn in it (although it was one of the ingredients that was actually stated on the menu!). The timing of when the dishes were served was a bit awkward as well. There was too little time between the first and second course and too much time between the second and third course. To their credit, they did deduct the cost of the cocktails from the total bill for the hair and cornless boil. But for a lunch that was $300+ we expected better from this restaurant.
FanSea sushi

I dont know if it was getting a tax refund by a CPA across the street that put me in a great mood or if the fact that I walked away thinking, Go to this place for their amazing green beans! But, I felt this place delivered for the 5:00PM to 7:00PM happy hour!Sushi was fresh although I suspect the salmon was ocean trout (darker in color than farm raised Salmon) but the octopus was almost crisp - not at all chewy.Pro tip - make sure to check in! Get a hand roll free!Hand roll seaweed was fresh - crispy and not at all hard to bite through.Drink menu is basic (Asahi fans welcome, Sapporo fans stay at home) but they do have a better selection of wine and saki.Ok, so what really shined here was the details. The ambience makes you feel like youre in an effin Japanese fishing village, the sides got the salivatory glands pumping, and the Happy Hour specials are really worth traveling to one of the nicest places on Earth - just off the south end of El Porto.

We made reservations for 6:15 on a Sunday evening.Sitting down, I thought the music was too loud and unfocused. We went from Come On Eileen to The Beatles to Notorious B.I.G. What? Already I have the feeling that Im in a place that lacks a sense of attention and intention. And that was the direction we stayed in.The servers were very helpful and attentive and answered our questions. When we asked for 3 glasses of wine, there was an attempt at upselling to a bottle which felt procedural. The food came out promptly, but:The fries were oversalted to the point of making me immediately think that this restaurant is really a front for an alcohol distributor. That first bite was a prelude to everything that followed.Everything felt oversalted to the point of causing more thirst to sell more liquor. The chickpea fritters were fine but their shape and color reminded me of the Japanese convenience store snack CalorieMate. Its pomegranate glaze was indistinguishable from store bought cranberry sauce. The waitress came out with complementary bacon cheddar biscuits, which were fine, I guess, but not fantastic. They crumbled well, but again, salt salt salt. We go further downhill from there. The gnocchi was inedible. A texture like clotted cream and tasted overwhelmingly of the unnecessary ham lardons. The wild mushrooms were completely lost in a gray paste. The hanger steak medium rare was too chewy and over-seasoned, and reeked of its white cedar smoke as if the smell of steak with a good Maillard caramelization was somehow insufficient. The fried chicken didnt have the batter applied correctly and did not seem freshly made. It was too greasy as if old oil was used. The crust was unpleasantly stiff and came off the meat. My aunt, who had the thigh piece, suspected it was undercooked. My girlfriend texted me discreetly I might need a milkshake after this. My mouth feel is gross.Che disastro duna Cena!Everything was presented with care, but to my mind, more an eye to social media sharing than the contents of the dish. The assistant general manager came over to speak with us about our experience and showed great professionalism and hospitality. It was not her fault.I hope she goes on to much bigger and brighter things.
