Kyosho

This is probably the best Japanese restaurant in Menlo Park. Everything is authentic, classy and delicious. They have fresh specials everyday. The hotate is great! The service was good despite that they had one lady doing everything. She was bussing tables, taking orders, the cashier and the food runner; yet, she was patient and never showed any stress. We also recommend the omakase sushi. Highly recommend!
Dashi Japanese Restaurant

This is by far the worst japanese restaurant in all of bay area because it is not really a japanese restaurant - its run under false pretense either by Korean or Chinese people. The food was absolutely tasteless. Sushi were the size of a nickel each & $8 gets you 6 of them. My wife & I went there at 8:45pm, & the restaurant closes at 9pm. Sushi chefs left at exactly 9pm. Nobody cleaned anything at all: yup the counter where the slice & dice the fish was absolutely untouched. The waitress switched off the TV at 915 pm, while were still eating. She brings the check as we are eating & asks us to pay up cause the restaurant is technically closed! Will never ever go there again.
Octopus Japanese Restaurant

My review seems to be hitting the owners nerve and causing a knee-jerk reaction. For actually decent Japanese food, check out Kyosho just a block away. Menlo Park is still needing more high-quality restaurants, but this is not your only option for Japanese food.Heres the details:The sushi rolls are okay, but thats about the only thing thats okay about this restaurant. Service is incredibly slow. It took 15 minutes to get some water on our table, and I had to ask twice for it. One of the water cups were quite sticky on the outside and I was sure it was not cleaned properly. Rolls came before our cold appetizer. A bento box took 40 minutes when the restaurant wasnt packed at all. The taste of everything other than the rolls was quite bland and a bit weird if Im honest. Servers also had this numb expression on their faces. I cant tell if they have an owner thats too harsh on everyone or doesnt care. Its one of those.UPDATE: The owner made many claims about my visit, but it doesnt look like the owner actually remembers who I am, now that its been several days since my visit when I wrote the review. The owner claims that I raised my voice to the servers, which I never did. The owner also claims that the restaurant was packed when I was there, which is also not true. The owner also used the covid as an excuse for having a slow kitchen, but its been three years and its hard to imagine someone not able to adapt to a post-covid era. From the level of gaslighting the owner is doing to me, I can only imagine the same type of gaslighting the owner could be doing to its employees, blaming their own fault onto others, causing their faces to be numb. I originally gave the restaurant a two star. Im changing it to a one-star. I will also do everything I can to expose the owners malpractice from here on.

Not a large restaurant, good decor, this was a nice, quiet dining place with great services. We all had the $125 dinner set. Having visited Japan many time and lived in Tokyo for 3 months last year, I find myself comparing all Japanese restaurants outside of Japan to what I had in Japan. So, with that, I think the food was just a bit above average. For $125, the volume of food and type of ingredients included were acceptable. However, certain dishes were way too salty (such as the sukiyaki styled steak), certain dishes flavors were not satisfactory (such as the rock shrimp soup). The custard egg with black truffles and foie gras sounded interesting, but turned out not so tasty, too much in too little. The Alaskan King Crab was disappointing, the texture was mooshy, with very salty miso paste which would have covered up the sweetness of the crab meat. Anyway, it was unfortunate, because I was hoping for an outstanding meal!

Surprised the reviews aren’t higher! We came by on a Thursday evening and enjoyed this cozy Japanese restaurant for the first time. Generous and fresh sashimi, interesting sushi rolls, friendly service especially to our young child, and a laidback setting. Nice hidden gem in Menlo.

I had lunch there after a meeting on Sand Hill. The restaurant is lovely, the service was impeccable, and my vegetarian risotto was delicious! One companion had the Japanese fish dish, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and one had the Cheeseburger and fries, and pronounced it to be excellent!

The first time that I was brought to Cafe Wisteria for lunch I recall being very impressed with meticulously manicured grounds bursting forth from this kind of secret garden hidden in a sleepy residential neighborhood along side the creek which runs parallel to Sand Hill road. Its a quick getaway without traveling far off the beaten path. Its grounds are filled with a variety of flowering plants that theyve somehow orchestrated with the seasons so that there are always flowers blooming from under foot, climbing the walls and dangling overhead. (though spring and summer have the most). Its refreshing to slow down from a busy day and just enjoy chrisp air filled with the pleasent melody of birds singing and the bees hard at work. If your having lunch, I recommend asking to be seated outside on sunny days. If available, the tables which line the edge of the cobble fountain, shaded by a gnarled and knotted giant Oak are my favorite . The Café menu rotates seasonally & Im told is geared towards utilizing local & fresh ingredients as much as possible. The Dungeness crab eggs Benedict is rich and creamy with fantastic texture and balance. Im also a fan of the french dip sliders on mini toasted brioche, filled with tender slow-cooked brisket and served with a Tangy Au Jus.... delicious!
Back A Yard Caribbean Grill

Ok, so Ive heard a lot of good things about this spot and I cant believe this was my first time trying them out sice we moved to RWC. I think I overestimated our hunger because I ordered way more than what my son and I could fit in our tummies. I got a special of the day: curry goat and jerk chicken combo plate with a side of fried plantain, french fries and a house salad. Talking about huge portions, wowza, extremely generous and the price amazing. All the flavors top notch. While I was there the spot made me feel like I was on vacay in a Carribbean country, not many places can pull me out of my ordinary and give me this feeling. The attendance was great, the time we waited from when we ordered to the time we got served - bomb. I ended up getting a to-go combo plate for hubby: jerk chicken and ox tail and as seen in the picture below its all gone. I wish I wouldve taken a picture of all the plates as they came out, steaming hot - but the hunger was so huge I didnt even think about it; now I regret it. This is a must spot if yall are in the mood for authentic Jamaican/Carribbean food. I cant wait to go back and Im sure Ill become a regular hahahaha.

We ordered on their website. It wasnt ready on time, and one of the staff insinuated that we made it hard on them even though they messed up in the first place. My mother-in-law ordered many pastries for the morning of my baby shower via their website. I arrived to pick them up in the alloted time slot with a printout of the online receipt, and they werent ready.Fine, okay. Im a patient person, and Ive worked fast-paced customer facing positions before. It happens. So I wait, and the person leading the pick-up orders asks around to go get our order, and its nowhere to be found. They look over the printout, over and over, talk amongst themselves but havent asked me a single question or address me after the initial interaction. Its obvious our order fell through the cracks. They eventually start to put it together. I wait nearby, watching others come up and have similar issues. Their just backed up on orders, so people are waiting longer than expected. Finally, after a short but tense 30 min wait (for something that was pre-ordered, paid for, and given a pick up time the day before), the person operating pick up looks at me and goes,You Uber Eats?I said, No, just here picking up.He says, A personal order, huh?Yes, I reply. He nods, looks at me briefly, points to the receipt while he packs my late order, and says, Yeah, this was confusing for us...I dont say anything because Im trying to figure out how giving someone money for a good/service on their own website and then showing them a reciept of purchase in the time window they alloted is confusing. He finishes packing up my order and says, Here you go.I take the bag offered and say, Thank you, have a great day, as I turn to leave. He says nothing.
