Sushi KATSU-YA Northridge
9701 Reseda Blvd, Northridge, CA 91324, United States
An LA institution and, in my opinion, clearly the best Japanese restaurant in the area. Its a Sushi Katsu-ya, so very different experience from the overly-hip Katsuyas at the Americana, Beverly hills, LA Live etc. This place is an old school, high quality, small, strip mall sushi joint. The lunch set meals are shockingly reasonably priced for the quality but ordering a la carte will get pricy. Big menu of non-sushi Japanese food too and all of it is done well. Frequently crowded.

Nice small Japanese restaurant. Food is good, servers are kind. Great Japanese restaurant overall. Place is a bit hidden but that’s what makes it so great
Kings Burgers and Got Sushi
9345 Reseda Blvd, Northridge, CA 91324, United States
I absolutely love this place! I love surprising people when I bring them here …”What?!? Sushi and Burgers?” The friend I brought here recently loved the sushi so much he said he'll come visit me more, now that he knows about this. (Uh, thanks?)Some of the things I like to have people try if they are sushi people are the truffle tempura eel sushi and the escolar sushi. The escolar is inexpensive and I love the creamy rich taste of it, and its hard to find sushi places that have it at all (usually it's Korean sushi places that will serve it, as its not a traditional Japanese sushi — which btw, neither is salmon, for those who might turn your nose up at the ideas of having a non-traditional sushi). If you like the higher end sushi, try their premium sushi dinner for $40. It'll give you a nice variety of great fish. If you want something to fill you up more, try their combinations. I like the miso black cod, but I think the portions on that are too small. To sit down, you need to be ordering sushi, but you can also order burgers and such with your sushi. So its great for going out with a group where you have one or two people who do not like sushi. The spicy chicken sandwich is not on the menu, but that's popular (you can see a pic of it) in my pics. And my friends have wanted to go back for the King Burger (pastrami AND beef patty), the fish sandwich (of course that would be good) and the philly cheese steak sandwich (ask for it with mushrooms and ranch dressing…a short order cook had me do that, and its amazing. The key is to put the ranch in the sandwich. It mingles with the melted cheese and adds such creaminess….mmmmmm). Of course, sharing the truffle fries is always a nice addition to burgers OR sushi….There are also a few different cold sakes to choose from for drinks in addition to beer. And having alcohol options always is good. :)Park in the back, but there is some street parking. It fills up and the waits can be long… call in if you want to have a large group seating. So why 4 stars if I like it so much? Because half the time we go here, we end up waiting for an order that they forgot, or they have charged us for something that never came out, or we never get our drinks or have to keep asking for a refill or for water before getting it… so its all service related. Also, I''m a stickler for reliable consistency, and when I have ordered burgers I have had some come out fantastic and others come out so dry I couldn't even eat it. Only once or twice in the 3 years of coming here have I had the sushi not be as good — but that was for their toro, and I just rarely order that any more from here. Surprisingly the uni is consistant and good. That' usually the one that sushi places have more ups and down with.
Yamaha Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar
8460 Reseda Blvd, Northridge, CA 91324, United States
Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to. I highly recommend this place!First of all, this place is affordable - we were able to have a full course meal with drinks for around $20. The lady who was serving us was very helpful - she comes back to us every once in a while to check in how we’re doing.Tip: If you want to have a nice meal but don’t know what to get, go ahead and order a Combo #3 and choose 3 different food items from the available selection. The meal includes a Miso Soup and a Salad so you’ll definitely be full by the time you’re finished.Bring your friends and your family! You’ll regret not doing so!
Sushi Ko
19300 Rinaldi St G, Northridge, CA 91326, United States
Ive been visiting this restaurant for over two years now, and heres my general overview of the place.TL;DR at bottom. TL;DR = Too Long, Didnt Read.Food - Great. The sushi is what you would expect from a sushi restaurant, and has always remained consistent every time I have visited.Service - Hit or miss. This time, I was lucky to get a great server named Erin. She was attentive and cleared plates quite often. Also checked in and actually cared about the customer. She deserves a raise and is one of the decent servers at Sushi Ko. However, the last time I was here, I got a college guy who seemed like he didnt want to be there and was fed up with the requests my party was making. Forgot about my order and made me sit around 30 mins for a second round of All You Can Eat, and literally tossed the check on the table and walked away without saying a word. If you get a bad server, it will ruin your entire experience.Helpful things to know:All You Can Eat (AYCE) - Great deal! Definitely recommend ordering. Note that there is no takeaway and no sharing with another person who also isnt eating AYCE. However, AYCE is a great deal as it costs $30 with unlimited rolls and sushi. For perspective, each roll from the menu will set you back about $10. You also can choose sushi and AYCE comes with a scoop of ice cream. If youre not up for All You Can Eat, the dinner combinations and bento boxes are great as well. They come with salad, rice, your choice of protein, tempura, and your choice of roll or sushi. Sushi and any other protein other than chicken will cost you 1 or 2 dollars more. The restaurant was also recently renovated, and it looks great. One more thing to note. Dont sit in a table 2 rows from the air conditioner unless youre a polar bear, as it is freezing (At least for me.) since all the air is blowing directly into your back the whole time while youre sitting there. The air also is very cold.Great place overall, looking forward to coming back! (Dinner recommended.)TL;DR: Food is great and always consistent, service is hit or miss (Please read into that more instead of just not going here) and restaurant is great overall. Definitely recommend for dinner.
Shogun Sushi
10174 Reseda Blvd, Northridge, CA 91324, United States
Ive been here a few times in the past many years as it was a favored location by friends (never mine personally). The visit that really put me off was my visit on Sunday, April 9th 2017 at around 6 or 7PM or so - evening time. I was meeting up with friends and I got there about 10 min late and my friends were there already and sat down. We were only given the paper slip for marking down sushi but I wanted the full menu so I asked for it. Didnt get it right away, probably waited about 5 minutes. Took another 5 minutes for a waiter to come and take our order, actually it was one of the owners that took our order. So at this point, It took 10 min for me, 20 min for my friends to finally get an order in. I will pause here and say Im still okay at this point in waiting since it was probably peak or close to peak time so the restaurant was busy. Judging from how the restaurant was being run, it looked like 2 of the waiters were new, still trying to get a hold of things, one who is a seasoned waiter and it seemed the owner was trying to help out as well. I know how restaurants work and I have patience. That said, while we waited for our food, my friends and I chatted and waited patiently. It wasnt until I realized that a group of people who were sat in a booth after we were sat got their foods first and even finished their meal and another group sat in that booth and yet, our food was no where to be seen. We wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt but after a 40 minute wait and not even a soup being served, i grabbed the veteran waiter (who was waiting our table) and inquired politely whats going on with our food and that we have waited for over 40 minutes. Im sure the waiter thought we were exaggerating. Ive seen (and I bet you have too) people who wait 5 minutes and say they have been waiting for half an hour.. but he came back, acknowledged that we have indeed been waiting that long as it was time stamped and basically gave us the excuse that they were short handed therefore our food was not started yet. Thankfully, my friends were also very understanding and patient so we waited further, where at this point, most people would storm out. I was another 10 min until our food finally started to arrive. So we ate, and paid, no tip of course, and before we left, we asked again, this time the owner, why it took so long. My friends and I dont like to jump to conclusions and were hoping for a valid reason behind the massive delay. The response we got was outrageous and unbelievable. The owner said, from her mouth, that because her friends came to visit the restaurant, she allowed speedy service to them... which in return forgot our orders. She is totally playing favoritism and she admitted it to a customer. Never have I seen or heard that before but it was pretty appalling.A week later, another friend wanted to grab something small and quick and had picked this location so I met up with her and I just had water and 2 orders of sushi. That took about 25 minutes from the point of me ordering to me getting my food. Now at this point, I have re-affirmed my opinion about this place. I was also told by my friend that he too went again a few weeks later and although my friend got a decent service this time, waiting about 10 min or so for his food, the friends he was with didnt get theirs for a while and they were apparently pissed. That said, even if I got an apology from the owner and they offered a free meal, I wouldnt go because that would mean the owner is now favoring me which means there could be someone else who falls victim to waiting.Im not blaming the chefs. Im not blaming the servers (since some seemed new - if they arent new, this place has terrible training). I do blame the veteran server a little since if you are a veteran, you should be able to see whats going on throughout the restaurant and know when tables are not getting attention. The whole restaurant isnt that big. But mostly I blame the owner(s) who have no freakin idea how to run a restaurant and or is too incompetent.
Fishbowl Poke Co.
18427 Nordhoff St b, Northridge, CA 91325, United States
Initially, I let this place pass because of my sushi cravings, because the place i usually get my sushi burritos is in Valencia; but after the last-time I went into Fishbowl Poke to pick up my food, I am never ever going back. First off, I ordered to pick up my food 1 hour and a half before it was even ready. The ordering app kept pushing the time to a later and later readiness time...so I get to the place, and the sign said the place was closed when i clearly saw people walking out with food, so i called the food app in which i ordered, and they said that is lt shows the restaurant was closed. They were about to give me a refund when i told them to wait because i was going to ask inside. So i went in and they are serving a customer who tells me it is closed! So i said: How can it be closed if i preordered my food an hour ago? Then, they let me wait inside forever(40 more min). They were really backed up that day, and it was all a big mess! They kept making people leave ssand they were pushing business away as if they had all the clientele in the world, and it wouldnt hurt to lose more. Furthermore, the worst part is they were so careless because they had their plastic gloves on and off, and they kept touching the screen of their mini tablet as they fixed orders and kept going back to touching food and back and then again, and then the girl that was there kept fixing her pants and lowering her shirt and fixing her bra and chest area, not washing her hands and putting clean gloves on again. Another customer brought that to their attention, and the two guys sort of listened; but the girl didnt care, and continued. That carelessness and grossness is not going into my stomach anymore. That customer told them about cross--contamination and uncleanliness...If someone who inspects their business would have been there, i bet they would have shut them down. That is unnacceptable! Never again.

Parking stinks but Im so glad I pushed thru. It was delicious!!! They have my new fav thing which is a wonton taco with choice of fish. YUM!!! preset bowls offer a bargain thats appreciated and honestly, the service was awesome! Guy was so personable and friendly. Think its my new go to!!!!Second visit not as great...I ordered 9 tacos all the same... paid extra for avocado and they all were missing seaweed salad! When I went a 3rd time (obviously I love these tacos) I told them... and the college gal didnt even care, comment or correct. Over her head. They almost messed that order to but I was there to remind her. Its really yummy.... but these kids are preoccupied with the large screen TV and their phones to give excellent service.

Japanese food and the feeling at this location is excellent. I love snacking here. Service treated us so nice. The prices are good for what you get. Menu is similar to a restaurant in Jacksonville I loved.
