Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
1112 Irvine Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
When PS first opened it was great it actually had Asians preparing Chinese food, now it is prepared Hispanically. The interesting thing is that the food all tastes exactly the same wherever you get it or who ever prepares it, just like a bowl of Ramen! PS was bought out by a big corporation several years ago, since then they 1- upped their prices, 2- reduced the portion sizes, 3- stopped sending promotions to loyal customers and 4- decided that Customer Service went from the Customer to them along with the Customers money. I used to go there 3 times a week, every week. We laughed about needing a PS fix. Now I dont go there at all. Try Shanghai Pine Gardens on Balboa Island. Bigger portions, lower prices and traditional Chinese food.

Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors

I ordered my usual, Vegetarian Fried Rice at this Pick Up Stix to go. I also asked the gentleman to make sure they use a clean wok. There was no one else at the restaurant. However, it took him a good five plus minutes to share the order with the cook (I think the cook was somewhere in the back.) And another ten minutes for the preparation. I was just happy that they made fresh Veggie Fried Rice that I really enjoyed. The place is clean and comfortable! I will be stopping by at this restaurant in the future.

I thought that this would have definitely been a five star review seeing as I know they started out in Vancouver and I've had the best experiences in their restaurants there.Went in with a large group after a graduation party Monday night and it wasn't too busy which is to be expected. Loved the way the indoor outdoor space was a seamless transition and I thought the restaurant had all the right vibe for the SoCal setting.Sat down and ordered drinks and appetizers after a few minutes and all the alcoholic beverages came out but for some reason the two people who ordered San pellagrino didn't get their water until reminding the staff multiple times.Next came the sushi cones. These were AMAZING. You cannot go wrong ordering these and I highly recommend it. The truffle fries weren't as good as I thought they'd be so definitely not worth it in my opinion. Now where things went south was when the food arrived…so the waiter had a great system taking the orders stating that okay I will start here and go around the table and I thought, perfect! This guy knows what he's doing. When the meals arrived not one person got what they ordered. So eventually we traded foods and 8/10 people got their food and 2/10 didn't get what they ordered. They were told that it had mistakenly sent to another table and that they would steak fired up right away and would have something in about 10 minutes. They were nice about asking if they wanted anything else and brought two other sushi cones ok the house. When the steaks came out for the 2 people they were barely warm. This is where the frustration stems from because it was just not right and two other peoples steaks didn't come out hot either.I got the tuna salad and highly recommend it (it was one of my favorite dishes in Vancouver). The ravioli with shrimp was also really good. The poke bowl was fantastic as well.I will go back in hopes for a five star experience because I do like their food and will write another review when it happens but for now I think it was just an off night for some staff / trainee staff. I will say they comp'd the meals that came late and did apologize several times. Looking forward to another experience to match other great reviews.

Saigon Beach

Overall: 3.6/5 (dine in)This is a small storefront thats street facing so it might be hard to find parking right in front. I was surprised when I got there because I thought it was a sit down restaurant but the set up is really for take out/delivery. They have bars & stools along the side of the walls but at max, the restaurant can only seat 8-10 people. Customer service is good here though.Pork Belly Bun Slider ($5.95): Better than the grilled pork slider but was just okay.Grilled Pork Bun Slider ($5.75): The grilled pork was very dry.For both sliders, they gave a lot of carrots which I liked but they were lacking all the Vietnamese flavors. The buns were soft though.420 Downtowner Special ($10.25): We were both so disappointed when we tried this. The presentation was nice but the taste was mid. The green colored rice and the shredded chicken were bland. The pork on top was a bit less dry than the one in the bun and was the only thing with flavor.Nam Nam Wings (5 Wings For $7.95): The wings were the best item of the night. They were crispy and tasty.

Javiers Restaurant - Newport Beach
7832 Pacific Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92657, United States
Food was awesome and the atmosphere in the front room was great. Get a reservation before though. Your whole party needs to be there at the same time before you are allowed to be seated. If you dont get there within 15 minutes you will most likely lose your reservation.Guacamole and taquitos are great appetizers! Taquitos came with about 6 so great for a party of 2 or 3. You get served salsa and chips to start. I advise order promptly as it took forever to get food.My guess is that they want you to be there for a while waiting for your food so that you purchase more alcholic beverages. I was not particularly happy about the wait for our food because I wasnt drinking so I had to sit and wait for about 1 hour. Our server was very sweet and helpful. We got the:octopus ceviche - 9/10- just amazing and so fresh. our server recommended the octopus over the other cevicheschicken enchiladas - 8/10- great flavor! very great presentation and super tastychicken fajitas - 6/10- there wasnt anything particularly special about the chicken fajitas besides the fact that it was overpriced for what you get. Wouldnt get again if I came back. there are a lot of other dishes that would be worth your money at this establishment! chicken wasnt super flavorful and was slightly dryTop shelf margaritas on the rocks were amazing. Im wondering now if there are any margaritas with strawberry or mango. I think that wouldve been delicious. The drinks didnt taste very hard. Youd have to drink 3-4 to get pretty tipsyThe only two issues I have was that the lady at the front was slightly rude and seemed to be placing her stress on the customers. For how much of a great reputation Javiers has I would expect someone who is more friendly to be at the front of the establishment. It is very important for first impressions. The second minor flaw was that after our meal was over, I had to physically track down my server to get out check. We sat for 30 minutes waiting for our server to come back after our plates were cleared. Im not sure how they turn over tables between servers but it seemed like we got overlooked at the end. Restaurants generally want their customers to be helped quickly so that they can turn over the tables fast to get more parties seated. I think Javiers might be a little disorganized and maybe needs better communication between the servers! Nevertheless, every restaurant has its flaws! Neither issues were things that would ruin my night.Overall my dining experience at Javiers was not bad. Most of the dishes we ordered were pretty fantastic and I would say it is definelty a place to check off on your list of Newport/Laguna restaurants. That being said its not really a place I would go multiple nights in one trip. If we had found a table outside then maybe I could say differently! Im sure dining outside wouldve been a better experience!

Rusty Pelican
2735 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
This hardened ol general has fought a lot of battles and is now weary from Walmart (I know I make it sound like Vietnam...) to the foot spa treatment at Stanton to sensory deprivation at Orange to a canyon trail which I once marked 1-star for having the entrance road closed to public. And as Morihei Ueshiba, founder of aikido, stressed: The Way of Peace is superior. We give ratings, but we also revisit the same places. Its not just one off transaction, its a community. So, to any establishment that serves you I am inclined to give a full rating. I mean unless someone is throwing elderberry pie at your face, I am pretty lenient. But the true rating today is 3.5/5.Okay I promise not to go Hemingway on this one...So we have a old anecdote about this place. Six years ago we had a negative experience at the valet and the restaurant apologized and compensated. Needless to say, when we looked back, it was a romping adventure despite the negativity. Now my father lives in New York. Last time when he came to visit us, my mom was very sick but he was still chasing that dragon of that experience. Obviously with moms condition we didnt bring him to Rusty Pelican, but this time we did. And of course everything went smoothly this time from the cordial valet who was a gentleman to the lady who served us. I wasnt about to throw another fit.. hahaha... and thank God there was no scene. But this almost felt like an invisible transaction contrasted to our erstwhile brouhaha. And not because there was no report of a tire in the middle of a room, but because of the menu.As Heraclitus said: You cannot step in the same river twice. However, the reason why this experience wouldnt stand out was because it was yet another yugen moment of a Jacque Preverts mundane Il pleut il pleut... where in the middle of the din we all stopped chatting quitly to let the pitter of rain sink in on the beautiful yachts of the marina as if to ponder Camus and fragility of life where a family is gathered as a cohesive unit once in 20 years... is because the darned swordfish was a bit too tangy.Nay thats totally on me. Thats my palette. My parents however were grateful about their food and as I am for the moment. There is something sacred about a family meal. Almost psychedelic. As for the pros: loved the cold water, coffee was perfect (and I mean it.. not too strong, not a fraction weak), the onions on the sauted mushroom were amazing. The garlic bread was absolultely on point. And as for the swordfish: it was uninspiring. It also depends what you in mood for. I just wasnt craving seafood. If you crave shrimp scampi, this is the place to go. Because whatever they do, they seem to do with perfection as long as you dont order what you dont want.As we came back to Cypress and called my Dad who treated us, I asked him for his review. He said in a quiet voice in Bengali: Its about eating together.Yes, ultimately thats what it matters. Notwithstanding my moms expectation that a giant fried swordfish would be on the table!

Roll It Sushi & Teriyaki
4221 MacArthur Blvd, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
My employer could not have made a better choice what restaurant to have catered on 12/11/2020! First time we had any sushi/Japanese lunch catered. D-lish! ? The spices in the mashed potatoes were the best Ive ever tasted. The salad, rice, and teriyaki chicken & pork were great. Top it all off with fresh edamame still in the pods and it all makes for one of the most affordable, yet great-tasting Bento boxes available in Orange County. My coworkers were all assuming it was the most expensive lunch weve ever had catered. According to other reviewers, it cant be. I will believe the other reviewers whove been here before 12/11/2020.This fine Japanese restaurant is among the many I will have delivered to my home on a workday evening if I dont feel like making a dinner for myself. Considering the hours, Id probably have to place my order before leaving work when I get off @ 16:00 so that the order is prepared and delivered to my home by 17:00 when this place closes.

One of Orange Countys best restaurants! Consistently delicious, fresh and beautiful food. If youre a foodie, you will love it!! The Asian chicken noodle salad is amazing--best salad in O.C. and Ive lived here my entire life and have had hundreds of salads in the OC and this one tops my list! The salmon dinner with kale salad is incredible too. The salmon is simply pan seared with a divine kale salad with homemade croutons and buttery mashed potatoes that are perfection. The French Dip is also delicious with the perfect amount of beef and the best bun ever! Ive never had a bad meal here and the service is always really good! Bravo to the chefs & owner!!

Whole Foods Market
415 Newport Center Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
A REALLY GOOD STORE ! My wife and I have shopped at this location a few times since we moved to Irvine late last year. They sell a few very hard to get items on our must have list such as Creminelli Prosciutto Cotto ( Italian ham ) and a good selection of tasty Empanadas. Oh and they are the only local store that bakes their own Pumpkin Seed Ciabattas ( to die for ). On Saturday the predicted temp was 94F and we were going to do our best to avoid it somehow. After our early morning 20 mile bike ride to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve we freshened up and headed straight over here. UNDERCOVER PARKING ! There is a lot to like about parking our wheels out of the sun on a very hot day. OUR PLAN ! Usually we pick stuff up at 2 or 3 different stores on a Saturday but on this occasion it was ONE STOP SHOP in air con comfort. BUT FIRST ! We walked across the street from the parking lot and entered the store via the Back Bay Tavern entrance at 12.30pm. VERY GOOD FOOD ! We spent about an hour enjoying lunch....I even had a beer. Then we ambled over to the main entrance of the store to grab a shopping cart. First up I nailed a large fresh squeezed orange juice...not cheap but its pretty good. While my wife picked out our needs in fresh produce I zipped over to BOOZE ALLEY. I havent been buying my craft beer at Whole Foods Market for some time but this particular store had enough to keep me interested...and after all it was one stop shop day to beat the heat. I ran into Jose the bartender from the Back Bay Tavern ( where we had lunch earlier ) loading up the beer fridge and he was a great help when I asked him about an unfamiliar craft beer brand. I selected 1 x 4 pack of Common Space Brewery Hike More Hazy Hazy IPA, 1 x 4 pack of La Chouffe Belgian Blonde Ale and 1 x 6 pack of Dust Bowl Brewing Hops Of Wrath IPA. ITS ALL GOOD ! I also nabbed a large Crystal Geyser Natural Alpine Spring Water. I then headed way over the other side and picked out 1 x 2 pack of Corn Con Queso Empanadas and 1 x 2 pack of Poblano Cheese Empanadas ( a new one ). WOW...they were discounted by 20% and another 10% with our PRIME MEMBERSHIP. On the way I grabbed a couple of La Colombe Coffee Double Draft Lattes. In the meantime my wife had loaded up our shopping cart with a 4 pack of La Brea Bakery Torta rolls, Creminelli pepperoni salami minis, Alafi good soap, frozen Barramundi ( ON SALE ), Applegate salami sticks, hot Italian pork sausage, black figs, Hukitchen choc coated cashews, Royal Star papaya, Raos fettuccine pasta, bananas, white peach, 2 x Cabot Vermont Seriously Sharp White Cheddar, Justin choc bars and sliced provolone. WHEW ! Last but not least I needed some ice cream. For some reason Whole Foods Market do not sell my fav Haagen-Dazs ice cream so I had a look for something special. It was Nancys Fancy Butterscotch Budino with a Carmel Rosemary Swirl......it was darn delicious too. THATS ALL FOLKS ! Very friendly service at the checkout !

Macys
101 Newport Center Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
This store has a fresh brand new look inside thanks to their updated remodel. The bright lighting, new flooring and floor displays makes you feel like it is the first time you have shopped at this Macys. The first floor has home, kids and LensCrafters, looks very bright and makes it much easier for me to see the products I am trying to find. This home area always has the quality of bedding and towels that I shop for; I am a little picky and prefer high quality threading.Up on the cosmetic, jewelry, handbags, shoes and mens floor - the new lighting makes you feel like you are shopping in the daylight, making it easy to truly see the colors of their products. I always like their mens area because they have just what I am looking for in suits from Alfani, relaxed wear in surf and when I need to be fashionable INC and Calvin Klein are right next to each other.Upstairs on the 3rd floor they were just finishing up the new remodel, but it already looks like a brand new area thanks to the shiny floors and bright lights. My fashionista shopping partner, pointed out that the ladies floor transitions from one lifestyle to another almost seamlessly. Nothing like shopping INC, walking across the aisle to free people and then easily finding activewear. One of the managers was very helpful telling me where items were located to make shopping more easy and enjoyable due to the new remodel. I also noticed that if you made an online purchase for the free in store pickup, it is located in home on the 1st floor right inside the door that leads to the parking lot. Very easy to get to and has dedicated customer service.Nice work Macys, thanks for the new store feel!
