Singapores Banana Leaf
6333 W 3rd St #122, Los Angeles, CA 90036, United States
This was pretty unique for food court type of restaurant, but I have to say that the food wasnt that impressive. The laksa was nothing like the ones you would get in Singapore or Malaysia. Messy presentation, small portion size and expensive. Its hard to find authentic Singaporean food in LA, but I probably wont come back though.

Wholeheartedly, what a wonderful experience. Every dish was without disappointment, and you know how hard it is to be noteworthy dish after dish? Had the Maitake Mushroom, Uni Toast, Scallop, Cauliflower, Duck, a small sake, and a main of Fish (oh, and dessert). All those garnishes and sauces actually contribute to a unique flavor, they are not there just for looks (which many other establishment can be guilty of). Lets be clear, its not cheap, but [near]-perfection shouldnt be. Hats off to the chefs and owner. Maitake: delicately balance as the first course, the mushroom itself is smokey but complimented greatly from the heavier sauce below. Uni Toast: cheese, sourdough, uni, ikura, omg flavor bomb. Scallop: I thought what else can you deviate from scallops, but the added white kimchee and other sauces made this a standout from the regular, standard sear scallop. Cauliflower: while still good on its own, but compare to the others this perhaps is the weaker offering. If you dont like Maitake and want a veggie dish then order this. Duck: duck is medium rare and tender and juicy as expected, whats not expected is the rice underneath it, i felt the rice was as good as the duck itself. Main Course Catch/Fish: nicely grilled, love the beurre blanc sauce, my wife who is Singaporean love the hainan chicken rice on the side. I myself love the pickle sides that go great with the rice. Dessert is the Carmel with pepper ice cream

Pine and Crane DTLA
1120 S Grand Ave Suite 101, Los Angeles, CA 90015, United States
A great affordable and chill spot in DTLA with wonderful food? Yes please!Pine & Crane is focused on Taiwanese food with a variety of options and slight unique spins (so do expect some variations). They also have a variety of both teas/coffee as well as alcoholic beverages. Youll also probably notice when you enter that the front of the restaurant is basically a storefront with lots of snacks and goodies which is super cool. They do have a separate menu for brunch that changes over at 11AM as a heads-up. Ive been here a few times, so will be reviewing a variety of the items!*Minced pork with rice: I actually really like P&Cs variation here. One, its a pretty good sized dish. Love the house daikon pickles and think its well-seasoned. I mix in the hot sauce that is at the table.*Panfried Pork Buns: Yes - I do think there are places that do it better. But these are super solid here and tasty. Again, I use the hot sauce to help out a bit (might see a pattern here, :P)*Dan Dan Noodle: I think its an okay item here. Super creamy and heavy on the peanuts as a heads-up in case thats not your deal.*Beef Noodle Soup: Also solid. I think its a great dish to share between two people (along with one of the appetizers) as it is pretty big. Meat is super tender!*Dou Has: A good dessert of a mix of sweet potato/taro balls, red bean, and ginger syrup. Not overly sweet. We dug it.*Sun Moon Lake Cocktail: A refreshing whiskey cocktail (love Toki). Wasnt overly sweet and fit the mood right.*Hot Tea: Just a note - their tea set is adorbs and has a fun colorful timer that comes along with it. They refill so be sure to take advantage of it! They also provided some simple syrup*Passion Fruit Shandy: I thought this was ok. I preferred their cocktail but pretty refreshing - a mix of Taiwanese gold beer and passion fruit/green tea. I think a regular shandy is a bit sweeter/brighter but liked the play.Walk-ins only and no RSVPs here (at least as of August 2023). At least on the weekends, Ive noticed that the lines for lunch especially seem to get busy! You order first before picking out a table!Service is pretty nice although they tend to get pretty busy. Youll need to at least bus silverware/water to your table (saw at least two areas where you can do this inside and outside).Tables are available both inside and a nice patio area with a variety of seat options. I do think bigger groups may have some seating issues here as I dont usually see big tables although did see a huge work group rent out at least the big table in the back!Love also the aesthetic. Its nice, soft wood colors that gives off a nice, cozy cafe vibe that is filled with lots of plant life outside.Parking-wise, there is no dedicated lot, so youll need to aim for street parking or a lot. I usually tend to find street parking a couple of blocks away.An easy-to-recommend solid spot. Highly recommended!

Broadway Cuisine
913 N Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012, United States
VERY disappointing for its price range.Me and my cousin were looking for a familiar Chinese food restaurant, couldnt remember its name, couldnt find it. Settled on another place in the same vicinity .The orange beef was a bit salty and un-orangey. The lemon chicken was greasy, the extra sour lemon sauce was bland and vaguely sugary. The house fried rice came without soy sauce, didnt appear to be seasoned, there were no seasonings at the table and none were offered, I didnt try it because I was already feeling a bit off. The mu shu pork was, well, messy but otherwise OK. The cream cheese fried won tons were good.We had lots of leftovers but opted not to take any home.It seems the place we were looking for was Plum Tree Inn, and Google Streets shows the same location, so I guess Plum Tree closed its doors and was replaced by new management that probably should not be in the Chinese Food business.

Open Market
3339 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010, United States
Heard about this spot from a TikTok creator who often reviews KTown food. I ordered the Normandie per her recommendation (she ranked the sandwiches #1-10 and this sandwich was #1).The customer service is great! I tried ordering online but I saw the Normandie was taken off of the menu options, so I called in my order. They take off menu items from the website if there isnt enough stock to make the sandwich. Fortunately, there was just enough ingredients to make ONE Normandie, so they were kind enough to let me have the last one for the day.I was pretty stoked about the au jus dip, but since I was a little late to my pick-up time, it got a bit lukewarm. It was still tasty and paired well with the sandwich, but it was also a little too sweet for my taste. As for the sandwich itself, I thought all the ingredients went well together, EXCEPT the picked radish was way overpowering and also made the sandwich sweet. Also, the brisket in my sandwich was so tough and chewy :( It wasnt melt-in-your-mouth tender. It made for a sub-par eating experience because I had to fight with the sandwich and the chewing texture was just icky. Overall, goodish flavors, but bad meat quality. It might have to do with me getting the runt of the litter in terms of ingredients. I might try to come back for a more fair chance. Im 50/50 on whether I liked this sandwich or not.

Zen Mei Bistro
800 Yale St, Los Angeles, CA 90012, United States
Good solid local Chinese restaurant close to my church. Enjoyed excellent REAL Cantonese Chinese food with reasonable prices. Lastly I think their chefs are magical; their kitchen sounds are not loud at all. Dishes ordered; veggies, salted fish pork patty, Singaporean noodles, egg plants, stewed fatty pork and chickenwings. So good...Well be back!

Heng Heng Chicken Rice
5420 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027, United States
Made a day trip and drove up from San Diego to come try Heng Heng and it was so worth it! The restaurant is kind of small so expect to have a bit of a wait. Also.. WALK UP TO THE COUNTER AND PUT YOUR NAME ON THE LIST! We got there and waited for someone to get our name and how many people we were and the servers did not. We didn't know their was a list and a group of people walked in and out their name on the list so we lost our spot. But that's okay we still ate.We ordered the Hainana over rice, they only had white meat and we had came all this way so we ordered it anyways, Dry Egg Noodles with Crispy Chicken, Crispy Fish over rice, Crispy Pork and Zaab Crispy Mixed (chicken and pork). The Hainana chicken had the least amount of flavor when eating it with everything else we ordered. The noodles with chicken were served with fried chicken and it was pretty good. The crispy fish over rice tastes so fresh with such a light batter over it and steamy hot in the inside! The crispy port was also very good but it was the same crispy pork in the egg noodles so we could have saved out money and skipped it. And the Zaab crispy mix was a mix of chicken and pork tossed in sauce that had such amazing citrusy and spicy seasoning with onions and that.. that was the star of the show!

Ebaes
2314 S Union Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90007, United States
I visited Ebaes after a day of pounding pavement, starving, so I had very low standards for nourishment at that point and I left incredibly dissatisfied. Im a fan of good restaurant ramen and, since its a prominent item on their menu, I quickly decided that I wanted a big ol bowl of nice, soupy ramen. I was so hungry however, that I couldnt decide what kind I wanted: original (marked as a specialty), or spicy cha-siu tonkatsu ramen. I decided to consult my waitress for her opinion and, after a far-too lengthy conversation about the flavors and heat levels I decided on the spicy char-siu.Immediately after the words came out of my mouth, the waitress said oh well were out of the char-siu - is chicken okay? No. No it is not. Furthermore, why did you waste my time piddling around telling me about the ramen without mentioning that you were out of a crucial ingredient? Genuinely idiotic service aside, I ordered the decidely less appealing sounding Original Ebaes Ramen with shrimp. I also listened in to my friends orders. The waitress actively advised my friends against a few sushi items (big red flag) and helped them select other dishes - as well as a bottle of pink sangria. The ramen I received was described and prepared thus: spicy & creamy shrimp broth with choice of chicken or shrimp, green onion, tomato, mushroom, coconut milk, no curry. Does this sound like ramen? No? Well its probably good that it didnt taste much like ramen then. Not only is the combination is odd to begin with, but it arrived tepid, and it was badly made. The shrimp were tough, the noodles were overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside (how they achieved this feat, I have no idea), the topping freshness was inconsistent, and it was overall very sweet. I remember there being corn in there, despite it not being listed on the menu, but that could be because it reminded me of canned creamed corn in its sweetness. I dont even know what this dis is supposed to be.Also, as an aside, the sangria that my friends ordered was also disgusting. We all agreed that it was a lot of Welchs apple juice, a little cheap wine, and a ton of ice. It was like something youd order in a nightmarish tourist trap that mostly serves cruise ship tours on their day trip.Honestly, thats probably a good description of all the food I sampled there. Trying way too hard to be unique, while totally sacrificing the original point of the dish, and completely let down by the chefs actual cooking ability.
