Panera Bread
2249 S Shore Center Drive Ste 330, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
A very nice Panera Bread restaurant. The sandwiches tend to be large but you can get a half salad with a sandwich or soup. Great place for breakfast treats, bread, and all around good food

Jays Coffee Teas and Treats
1414 Encinal Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
The almond croissant covered the whole plate. I was more worried my espresso wasnt going to be enough, but it was the perfect balance to start my morning. Jays is always not hurried, comfortable with music playing below the talking level that I can come in and even work in my laptop from time to time, and even a great place to have brief meeting conversations. The service is attentive to and tableside when an order takes time to prepare. I just love this place.

Utzutzu

I would like to share my unique experience with this restaurant:I was thrilled to see this restaurant suddenly availability 2 weeks again for 2/5 at 8pm so I quickly took it since its my husband's bday weekend. It was only on the day of that I realized that I had actually only got one seat (yeah I know, it was my fault that I didnt recheck my reservation again for details). Since the restaurant had 48 hour cancellation policy, we knew it was too late to cancel/alter my reservation. We decided to call them to see if they could accommodate 2 people instead of 1. Unfortunately, no one answered the call for the entire day. We ended up deciding to drive up to the restaurant from south bay a little before 7pm, hoping ? theres bit chance that the chef could still accomdenate us.We got to the restaurant promptly at 8pm. I told the waiter about the situation and below is whole conversation:Waiter: “let me check with chef to see if theres anything we can do. Normally we wouldnt be able to accommodate you if you have reservation for one.”Me: “ thank you!”2 min later:Waiter: “sorry we might have enough fish, but not enough appetizers”Me: “thats completely fine! I can just skip appetizer”Another 2 min laterWaiter: “sorry we still cant do that.”Me: “i understand. Can I then pack my food to go?”Waiter: “sorry we dont have to go containers”Me: “oh I can go get some containers”Waiter: “sorry we just can‘t pack your food to go”Me: “i will be just having it downstairs in the car”Waiter: “No.”Me: “Alright. Then can I have my food at the table and share it with my husband?” (pointing to their cozy little dining table by the window)Waiter: “no you can't”At this point, I am clueless. It started pouring outside but we seemed to have ruled out all the options. The nice waiter finally said: “ I am really sorry this happened. What I can do for you is to cancel your entire reservation tonight and NOT charge you for the penalty (aka the entire meal's $$$$).”He paused for a moment and continued: “but you are BANNED from our restaurant for the rest of your life. You will not be able to make any reservation with us.”I was so humbled and grateful by the generous offer. How dare I, someone so careless in making reservations in the first place, dine at such prestigious Japanese restaurant! We left. In the rain. My husband got me some pickled fish for dinner. It was not raw fish, but I think it was a good bday dinner anywayz.

Chong Qing Noodles House
1635 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Finally a good Taiwanese place in Alameda. The beef soups are excellent, but really their hand pulled noodles are what make the soup dishes real stupendous. The woodear salad or the cucumber salad are perfect t cold parings to go with the spicy soups. Big outside area that is great for warmer months when they run the BBQ and cozy inside eating space as well. One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Alameda

Aizen (in Bizen Restaurant)
333 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90013, United States
Will go again / price = $15-25 / service = above average / cleanliness = above averageGRAND OPENING = I heard about this place Aizen from a coworker who mentioned a new udon spot that is comparable to Marugame. As I very much enjoyed the sea urchin uni cream udon there, I had to check out Aizen. Perfect timing in that I came during the Dine LA restaurant week so the dinner = $45. This included a 3 set appetizer + 3 set assorted sashimi + choice of udon + dessert. All but the udon is chefs choice. What a great deal!My udon of choice was the Pescatore Udon which although is a todays special seems to be a standard menu item now. In addition, while I waited for my friend, I ordered the Uji Green Tea Plum Wine which was light, sophisticated, and delicious. The 3 appetizers were roast beef with truffle soy, mini chawannuchi, and eggplant in soy. Light but flavor explosion of Japanese goodness...the sashimi set was another delicious set of toro tuna, salmon, and yellow tail. Good size and very fresh in taste as it melts in your mouth like butter. The Pescatore Udon definitely has the Italian vibe it gives off and while it drains down your throat like a delicious liquid like soup, at the same time, it is slightly thick like a tomato cream sauce as it costs all the seafood and udon noodles so you can slurp like no other. They recently had a grand opening and based on my experience, this will be a hotspot for something different than a traditional Japanese udon restaurant. The interior is casual but elegant with decor. Secret parking is available but I will not share so it does not become overused. It is a secret after all! Thanks to Aizen for a great experience and Dine LA restaurant week!

The Preachers Daughter
1629 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Ive long overlooked a proper review for The Preachers Daughter and after having not been in for a while until yesterday, its high time to do so.The menu has been updated to reflect changes but they have kept some of the original offerings. So, I went to my old favorite, The HMC* sandwich. Never disappointing but now TPD has raised the number of side dishes from two to five.A good selection of wine, my pick or staff recommended I have never been disappointed, Espresso drinks and pastries are of the standard fare and that is no complaint. But here is what really keeps me coming back. I am not particularly demanding when it comes to service, in fact my preference is that it be low key and basic. But I am struck every time that I am in at how staff is genuinely interested and attentive to the wants of their customers and the customers themselves. And not to forget places namesake, her pride in operating a womans and minority owned business is righteous.*(Note to self: Next time in, I must remember to ask what HMC stands for).

What a great find! The food here was wonderful. We had Tom Yum soup and the broth was so rich and flavorful it could have been a meal in itself. Pad Thai was delicious, and the spicy eggplant was exceptional! We’ve just found our new go-to Thai restaurant in Alameda.

The Park Street Tavern
1901 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
A group of vegetarians, pescatarians, and meat eaters headed out to the Park Tavern for the first time during COVID times. We made reservations ahead of time and choose to sit outside in their open tent on a drizzly cold night. The staff was attentive, the heat lamps kept the tent cozy and warm, the tables had adequate distance, and the food was outstanding. It was a Friday and BONUS!!! They have a Beatles cover band do a show and they are amazing but during these strange times, you will be asked not to dance which is reasonable. However, if you want to hold a conversation, I suggest you request seating inside the restaurant which was relatively empty. We dined and dashed. Normally we would linger in conversation but we really wanted to be mindful about allowing the restaurant to have as much business as possible by allowing them to turn over the table. We will be going back.
