California Pizza Kitchen at River Walk

So last Tuesday My daughter, her boyfriend and myself decided to check out this new Next Chapter menu at California Pizza Kitchen. We hadn't been to California Pizza Kitchen in over 7 or 8 years. We arrive around 7pm and the place was not to busy for a Tuesday evening so the hostess seated us right away. Within less than a minute our server Blake came over and greets us. My daughter asks about the Strawberry Mango Cooler and decided it sounds refreshing so Blake fills our drink order and proceeds to tell us about the new menu, we ask a few questions and we make our choices. The first thing we order is our Appetizers. I get the Sesame Ginger Chicken Dumplings and she gets the Chicken Lettuce Wrap with Shiitake Mushrooms.First the Dumplings were wonderful! light with just a hint of ginger, not over powering at all. It came with 6 or 7 on the plate I think and that was enough for all three of us. I would defiantly order them again. The Lettuce wraps. I enjoyed the lettuce wrap. But not as much as Taylor, She had two. I Liked the the fact that they didn't skimp on the Shiitake Mushrooms.I ordered the Ribeye. Yep, you read that right! A Ribeye at a pizza place. Who knew? This was a 12oz ribeye cooked perfect (the way I ordered it). I'm already a blue cheese fan, so when I saw it came with a creamy blue cheese butter I was hooked. I like the fact that when it was delivered it was still piping hot, not like it had been sitting around waiting on the rest of the food. I tried the other entrees and will give you their review in a moment but this was by far my favorite and I will return for this steak again. My Daughter ordered the Halibut, now she lived in Alaska and worked at a fishing lodge last summer so she is a bit spoiled when it comes to salmon, halibut & crab. In her opinion this halibut reminders of being back in Ketchikan, AK. Not quite as good as catching it, filleting it and eating it all in the same 12 hours but about as close as you can get. I was lucky enough to get a small sample of the halibut and I have to agree. The halibut was tender but not to flaky and well it had really good flavor it certainly was not fishy. All in all it was a wonderful meal. The service was top notch. We really enjoyed the fact that not only did our server Blake make sure our drinks were never empty but, that the chef him self delivered some of the food and cared enough to check on us. Now before you go thinking it was special treatment, sadly we're not that special, I noticed Chef Esteban, Ast Manager Zack and even the GM Frank seem to be taking a real interest in the customers. checking in on them, asking if there is anything they can get you, etc. It was nice to see the attention they payed to all their customers. They offered us a tour of the restaurant. How could we say no. From the prep station to the back area and even the brick oven. We saw it all. during the tour Chef Esteban told us how on days and evenings when they have time they love to take young kids back their and show them how to toss a pizza. As you can see I'm a pretty big kid. They showed us how to toss the pizza dough. Must say this was a really fun night with my daughter and her boyfriend. One of the things that stood out to me is over the entrance to the kitchen was the American Flag. I asked the GM Frank, who's idea was it to fly the flag. He said it was his flag and he was proud of it. I was very happy to hear someone proud to display the flag in a public business. This alone goes a long way in my book. Not to mention the fact that they also displayed images of Bakersfield including The Fox Theater, The Clock Tower & The old Chamber Building at the Kern County Museum among other local images. I have not seen many restaurants show as much pride in Bakersfield as I did on Tuesday night from the staff at California Pizza Kitchen. So in the opinion of just another Bakersfield local I would have to say that California Pizza Kitchen gets 5 out of 5 Stars from all three of us.California Pizza Kitchen Bakersfield

Panera Bread
4108 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309, United States
Wow. First they didnt have the soup I wanted (fine, whatever, Ill order something else). Then we waited long enough for our food that we finished our drinks before it was ready. We had to carry our food to our tables ourselves, which I would expect from a fast food place. Not from a Panera bread.I should mention at this point that the restaurant was not busy. There were maybe five small families in the restaurant. They gave us plastic spoons, but metal knives. The knives were in a tray, and most of them were still dirty.Overall, this is the worst Panera Ive ever been to. I would understand if they were short-staffed during a dinner rush, but business was slow and there were plenty of employees standing around talking amongst themselves.Thankfully I was just passing through town, because I wont be back.

Awful customer service from “manager” Sam. I was given a soup in a bag that popped open inside and spilled. It got on all the contents inside and outside the bag onto their counter. I brought it to their attention and was told “oh we didn’t realize it” then proceeded to hand me another cup. No new bag. No new side. No napkins. Most importantly NO APOLOGY!! When I asked for replacements she smirked & chuckled as if I was an inconvenience to her. Customer service is a huge letdown at this location. Plus, the restaurant is somehow always dirty, as many others have mentioned.

If at all possible, avoid eating at this place. Horrible service.Ordered a chicken cheddar bacon ranch salad, and was told that they do make make those, and only have Caesar salads. I indicated the “Make any regular sub a salad” option at the bottom right of the menu. The two employees looked dumbfounded at each other for several seconds, and then said ok. She proceeded to charge me the price of the sandwich rather than the indicated salad price, but I did not complain. We were the only ones in the restaurant, and it still took near 10 minutes to make my friends chicken cheddar bacon ranch sandwich. The sandwich came out minutes before mine, and they asked my friend if they wanted lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on his sandwich, to which he said yes to all. When mine was ready, I asked for onions on the salad, and was told “we don't put those on the sandwich.” After insisting I would like onions, I was given two small slivers of red onion. After asking for more, I was given 3 even smaller slivers of onion. They also forgot the ranch dressing, and once provided it was maybe a tablespoon of dressing in a small side cup.Stay away unless it's your only option.

Caesars Deli

We catered our wedding through caesars and I am now a caesars customer for life. To start, the service we experienced when doing our tasting blew us away. We decided to schedule a tasting with them because they were super transparent with their pricing online, and we had done smaller catering orders through them for holidays and loved it. We had two other tastings in town with companies who were highly recommended (also double or triple the price) and nothing compared to the experience we had with Caesars. They did cocktail hour appetizers and a full dinner service. The food was so amazing, and all of our guests made it a point to tell us how much they loved the dinner! If youre considering having anything catered, a holiday, a wedding, whatever, please do yourself a favor and look at Caesars first. Anthony was such a huge help and youll be a lifetime customer like us!

I ordered a red bull roll from here on Saturday, 1/13 while visiting Bakersfield.. & after eating about half the roll I began to vomit repeatedly and into the late morning. I had a swollen lip & throat and continue to struggle with a raspy painful voice from the reaction. Not to mention the bright freckled rash all over my face and neck that just went away last night. Not sure what it was exactly and I do not have allergies to any foods that I know of. Hesitated to post but felt I should in case anyone else has suffered similar reactions to any of their food. I eat sushi regularly and this has never happened to me. Very scary experience & a first for me.

Food and service were phenomenal. The dining room is a little small so there aren't many tables. We got lucky and showed up before lunch rush. Since we are a family of seven, it's often hard for us to find seating. Everything was clean, including the restroom. The food came out fresh like it's all made as you order it. We had many different dishes from pupusas to caldos. My in-laws are Salvadoran born and raised. This food is authentic down to the banana leaf wrapped tamales. They also run a car wash there so you can get your car detailed and have a great meal while you wait. Menu is in Spanish, so if you don't speak Spanish, break out your Google translate. We will definitely be returning for another meal!
