The atmosphere is open and friendly, and the service is attentive and efficient. Food is prepared fresh so it might take a little bit longer for your meal to arrive--but it will be well worth the wait.
Marias Mexican Restaurant
2970 Lenwood Rd, Barstow, CA 92311, United States
You ever go to a restaurant, looked at the food pictures on the menu and had your tastebuds start jumping? Well thats exactly what happened when I walked in Adelitas. Besides that, the pictures were deceiving to portion size, as my selection was Mas Grande more than what the image showed. My made to order soup and corn tortillas settled my tastebuds nonetheless, and the family warmth service was over the top. Im definitely going back when in Barstow. Heres a few of the paintings that added to the ambiance.
Halal bros
1782 E Barstow Ave, Fresno, CA 93710, United States
I had the pleasure of eating at Halal Bros tonight. It's been a minute since I've had good Shawarma, and Halal Bros did not disappoint.FOODI ordered the lamb Shawarma combo, and asked for it extra spicy. Fair warning, if you ask for extra spicy, that's exactly what you are going to get. The best part is, you can still taste all of the flavors through the heat. The lamb Shawarma sauce was very true to Shawarmas I've had in the Middle East. And anyone who complains about the portions is just insane. As you can see in the picture, my Shawarma was loaded with lamb.I also appreciate that the food is Halal. Though I am not Muslim, I am conscious of what I eat, and the treatment of the animals that I eat. I don't go out of my way to find Halal food, but when it's available, I jump at the opportunity.PRICEThe price point here is absolutely worth mentioning. Everything is under $11, which I appreciate the business trying to cater to the broke college students.ATMOSPHEREThe atmosphere in Halal Bros has a very youthful urban vibe to it. The walls are covered in graffiti art, which feature a myriad of characters and themes. I didn't bother looking at my phone once, while I was eating, because I was too busy enjoying the art. I also had a chance to talk to the artist, who was eating there, Derek “Dee” Magee, about his artistic background and inspiration for creating the mural.OWNERSHIPI had a chance to talk to Tony, one of the owners of Halal Bros. Though this is a fast casual restaurant, he took the time to greet me, and other customers who came in, and took time to explain his inspiration for the food and restaurant. It's always nice to talk to local restaurant owners and see what their inspiration for the food is. To me, it really adds to the ambience and quality of the food.TL:DRIf you want an authentic, delicious, Halal, Mediterranean fusion restaurant with a great youthful vibe, Halal Bros is your place.
Platas Mexican Food
1401 Irwin Rd, Barstow, CA 92311, United States
Platas is hands down the best authentic Mexican food in the area. I live an hour away and make the drive just to come to the Ft. Irwin Rd restaurant. They have an extensive menu with additional menu items printed on paper. I usually order the shredded beef tacos that never disappoint. The meat is tender and flavored perfectly. We have also had the enchiladas. The red sauce in them is divine...full.of flavor that compliments the cheese.....and I usually do not care for red sauce. Flautas and taquitos always crispy and tasty. The breakfast burritos are big enough to share. In fact, we always order different items to share. Oh, and they make their own tortillas on site. The chips are complimentary. I love the crispiness and thickness and there is always several salsa options...I will always return to Platas when I crave Mexican food.

Thai taste offers an outstanding dining experience with authentic Thai flavors. The Pad Thai is perfectly balanced with tender noodles, a rich sauce, and fresh toppings. The fried rice is expertly prepared, featuring jasmine rice infused with a harmonious blend of spices and fresh vegetables. The papaya salad stands out with its subtle, refreshing flavors, combining sweet, sour, salty, and spicy notes. The inviting ambiance and attentive service further enhance the meal, making Thai Taste a top choice for Thai cuisine enthusiasts. Highly recommended!
Calico Ghost Town Campground
Barstow, CA 92311, United States
Condensed review:Located halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Calico is a nice stopping point to stretch your legs and get to know some gold/silver rush history.I was actually very surprised at this place, in that I didnt think that many people frequented it. It wasnt too crowded, and the walk through the town was very pleasant.Surrounding area: a few campgrounds and a fairly large RV park. They also have a Bunkhouse that we stayed in.The Bunkhouse. Sleeps about 20 people, in 10 bunk beds in one big room. Accommodations: a microwave, a fridge, a big counter. NO sink or oven to cook things on. Outside, two bathrooms, NO showers. They also have a fire pit and fire grill. No wood in the area, so BYOFW for the pit or grill. Plenty of parking, even if everyone brings a car each. The RV campground and Cemetery is within walking distance. The RV campground does have showers that I think you can use if you are in the bunkhouse. Also included with the Bunkhouse rental is parking at the town.Other things to do in the area. Hiking trails that are easy level, but watch your footing at all times. Loose rocks and holes in the ground. There is a lot of room to drive off road vehicles around, and if you go into the canyons, you can find old abandoned mines that you can go explore. As for the town itself. Parking is $8. Very similar to the old western town at Knotts Berry farm. All the workers are dressed in period gear, and are very friendly. There are a bunch of shops with various wares there. Off the top of my head, there was a leatherworks shop, pottery shop, woven shop, rock shop, dog treat shop, candy store, old time photo place, and general goods shop. They have a museum, and a bunch of relics from the old silver mining times dots the entire town. There are also a lot of ruins of the old town. There is really a lot to explore and learn throughout the entire town.Everything within the town is free to explore except they do charge for 4 things. The train ride $5. Was a short 10 minute trip, with an audio recording telling you various facts. The next 3 things you can bundle, and it was $8.Maggies Mine. Right near the train, exhibits inside free. Paid is walking through the mine. Mine is small, with two audio recordings telling you some history about the mine. Its the safe way to explore a mine. The exit of the mine has nice views and ruins and ends at upper town.Mystery Shack. Within the main street. Warning. Handicap, weak knees, vertigo or get dizzy easily should probably avoid this one. I actually got dizzy at one point through the short tour (depending on group size, probably 15 minutes+). Best to see in a small group (12) Wait for next if its too large. Explore the waiting room for some frontier humor.Gold panning exhibit. Just a warning, not gold its pyrite, which is silvery in color. They should call it silver panning, since that would be a better representation. In any case, its a fun thing to do, and definitely something the kids will enjoy.Other things. 3 places to eat at Calico. So if you dont mind paying the $8 parking, this is a great spot to stop if you are hungry.Main restaurant right near the entrance. Sit down establishment, but severely understaffed. Peanuts to munch on and you throw the shells on the ground. Ate breakfast, and was worth the $10ish they charged. Have patience, service slow. Bbq smelled amazing.Middle of town. Did not eat, but Pizza/Beer garden. (FYI, we carried beer in shops and town)End of town. Standard fare, burgers, fries type food. It also had ice cream by the scoop. Price under $10, including the large beers. One additional thing that the town serves (I know the last restaurant had it as a fountain drink) is Sarsaparilla. Kind of a root beer, but better. They also sell it by the bottle in some of the shops.
DiNapolis Firehouse
1358 E Main St, Barstow, CA 92311, United States
This is the first time I have been disappointed in eating here and it most definitely will be the last for quite some time.... if there is ever a next time. In the first place, we took my fatheri-n-law there to eat and he is a veteran from the veterans home there in Barstow. He has a hard time walking and we were given the furthest table from the front door. We were one of the first groups there since they had just opened for the evening. There was absolutely NO reason to seat us that far. Our waitress was Lauren. If you ever get her, prepare yourself to wait for everything!! Our food finally came and it was completely flavorless. I had ordered the linguini with class and it was horrible!! NO flavor whatsoever. My father-in-law had ordered the spinach ravioli with a soup. The vegetables in the soup were still hard from not being cooked all the way through. He didnt even finish it!!!. My other half ordered the veal parmigiano which was tough and stringy. They were all good portions but lacked in flavor and tenderness. We had asked for parmesan cheese and after more than 121to 13 minutes, Lauren still had not brought us the cheese. My boyfriend had to go get it himself, and mind you folks, THE PLACE STILL WASNT BUSY!!!! The dinner crowd still had not come in. Lauren needs to be more attentive to her customers and the cook needs to go back to cooking school. After we got home from the restaurant, my boyfriend and I got sick to our stomachs. We were in the bathroom for quite a while. If this is an indication of how things are going to be from now on, Im gonna go somewhere else. Too much money to spend on food thats not good.
Jennys Grill Steak & Mariscos
1201 E Main St, Barstow, CA 92311, United States
We were traveling through Barstow today and we thought we would pick a Mexican restaurant to eat at.We looked up reviews, etc.,and we decided on Jennys Grill Steak & Mariscos. We were definately glad that we did. We ordered the three shredded beef enchiladas with Red Sauce, rice and beans. The red sauce over the enchiladas had melted cheese as well.I also asked for a couple jalapenos that were freshly charred on the grill. The shredded beef enchiladas tasted good and were flavorful. The spanish rice was good with the beans.I think the beans were pretty good with the right amount of lard, which I like.I mixed the rice and beans together and I put the chopped up charred jalapenos in it also which tasted wonderful. We also got the Carne Asada Nachos which were good and had lots of Asada meat on them. The cheese on top went well with the meat and chips, and had the right amount of crunch.I was also glad that they served chips and salsa with red and green salsa and pico. The red and green salsa had some proper KICK to them when eaten with the chips.I thought to myself that this must be the heat level that they like around there in their salsa which is cool. I love when we go to a Mexican restaurant and you get that heat. The charred jalapenos were delicious, and quite hot and complimented both the enchiladas and the rice and beans. The friendly waitresses were quite courteous and supplied us with whatever we needed. From the time we ordered the food to the time when the food came out to our table was surprisingly fast also.I say Great Job Jennys Grill Steak & Mariscos.Your food tastes Great, and you can tell that the people that work there care about producing Great Food.
