Thien An Bo 7 Mon Restaurant
9862 Westminster Blvd. B, Garden Grove, CA 92844, United States
Huge place serving Vietnamese Bo 7 mon, 7 courses of beef, which were originally derived from French dishes. Its open for dinner only on weekdays, add lunch for Fri-Sunday.The pace is nice, clean, spacious. Friday lunch there were only 3 other parties or about 20% occupied. Each 7 course serving is now $32 with enough food for 2 people. Baked cat fish dishes are also in the menu. Beers and wines are $5-6.Meats cooked 7 ways are served with rice paper, lettuce, herbs, pickles, to be rolled into spring rolls and dipped in fish or anchovies sauce, which are very tasty.Meat portions are small, but all 7 dishes were better and tastier than those served by the now-defunct Anh Hong and Pagolac:1. Beef and shrimp salad2. Top round hot pot3. Top round grilled4. Grilled ground beef in betel leaf5. Grilled ground beef in beef fat6. Steamed ground beef loaf7. Rice beef soup, very rich and tasty1 serving lunch for 2 people costed $44 before tip. Its hard to compete against various Korean BBQs and hot pots in OC serving lunch for $22 and dinner $29 with AYCE rib eye, brisket, ribs.Vietnamese Bo 7 Mon is more like a long, slow, formal dinner, where clients have to roll their own spring rolls, which can be messy. It has not caught on with a large clientele base in mainstream So Cal, likely due to price points, limited menu, beef being the only main ingredients, and the messy work required to cook and eat it. Major venues in So Cal struggled for decades and went out of business. This location used to be Hong An, taken over by Thien An, now returned to the original owner, who operates another Thien An in Rosemead. The 2 Thien Ans on Harbor and Bolsa are original, now operated by 2 cousins. Does not look like they are doing booming business. There may be a market for selling each dish as a single serving, for pick up with lower overhead, in the range of $7-12.We are unlikely to come back.

I dont usually post reviews, but my experience here was bad enough to merit one. Now, Im not sure if it was just an off day for them, but boy, what an OFF day! I took a friend here recently because I had eaten here about a year ago and had enjoyed the food then. Perhaps, its under new ownership or theyre struggling right now. Whatever it is, I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt, but this night in particular was just bad.I had arrived at 7pm, asked for dine-in. Weirdly enough, despite dine-in, they serve all their sauces, drinks, rice sides in to-go cups/boxes. This just makes freshness questionable as Im sure they were all pre-packaged and definitely not made to order. They try to impress you with a free drink but tbh doesnt make up for the quality of the food which was a tad overpriced as well. Maybe they rely on the to-go boxes because their plates are also chipped.I ordered Crying Tiger beef, Tom kha, and fried wontons. I figure these entrees were simple enough. It took 45 minutes since seating to get our appetizer; stale fried wontons that tasted as though they had been microwaved. An additional 30 minutes later we received our mains; crying tiger (emphasis on crying) and tom kha chicken soup. Firstly, as someone who has grown up with south east Asian cuisine, I understand there may be some regional differences in some dishes, however, this was not it; the look of each dish was just off. The crying tiger was drenched in a sauce that was split (e.g. fat and liquid separated) and it wasnt emulsified at all. For some reason, the beef looked black and rubbery, and since they have xmas lights decorating the interior of the restaurant, I swear it made the beef look a disgusting blackish blue. I still tried it, and what a mistake that was. The beef was rubbery, bland, and overcooked. I was appalled. I looked over at my friends dish, tom kha soup. It looked like a watered down tomato bisque! When we fished for the pieces of chicken it claimed it had, the cuts looked like butchered leftovers of breast meat! Also bland and overcooked.I could not believe what I was seeing and tasting. For my friends safety, after I took a bite of both the beef and chicken, I told her not to eat anything else and that we were leaving. The wait staff, who all look like college kids just trying to make a buck, asked us how the meal was, and in the only polite way I could manage said, Im trying to find something nice to say, but tbh its really not good. Poor waiter offered us some fried ice cream or to swap out our dishes but considering, they had done so poorly with what I considered the most basic Thai cuisine, I simply asked for the check. No doggy bags required, wouldnt feed it to a dog tbh. They didnt even try to comp part of our meal or provide a discount. I was so upset and hungry, I didnt want to make a scene. I paid the bill and left in a hurry. On the receipt, I left my last tip stating I know its not the waiters fault, but the food was NOT GOOD. I took my friend literately 8 minutes away to Brodard Chataeu, which was 1000x a better experience than here.Given the atmosphere, the food, and the price, I cannot in good faith recommend this place anymore. The beef and chicken looked butchered, drenched in oily residue, and simple side sauce/dishes were all stale in to-go boxes.Perhaps, these other reviewers had their dinner on a good day but I shouldnt have to gamble on a decent eating experience. Please, proceed with caution. Check your dishes and make sure youre not eating old, butchered meat hidden in sickly sauce.0/5 stars
Ph Vie II Restaurant

We were having a BAD experience at this Pho restaurant and poor service quality. First of all, we arrived first, sat at the table first and ordered before the next table for a long time. But then the server brought food to the next table before us. I could see that he had brought our food to them by mistake, by the expressions on the faces of the customers next to us. They were confused but still ate what was supposed to be ours. Then he brought out our food, of course, a lot of things were missing in it. My friends wanted special pho with large noodles and a bowl of rich/fatty broth, but they forgot and we expected that by observing what they were doing, so not really surprised. They are very UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL towards customers, as we did not receive a single apology after all, at least after he brought the wrong food there should have been an apology for the omission to their customers, but there was also no apology and his attitude was very superficial. Besides that, I did notice that the guests at the table next to us were brought water when they all finished eating. Anyways so many aspects to speak up about their lack of professionalism.
Phat Ky Mi Gia Restaurant

My family has been going frequently here since before I was born. The food used to be very good, especially the duck egg noodle soup, however after the dad and uncle retired and handed the restaurant over to their son the foods consistency has not been good with food lacking ingredients or being overly salty. In addition the new employees, of which I believe are family members pulled in to work there, are very rude. I can count on 2 hands how many times theyve incorrectly made my to go orders or outright yelled at me over the phone to hurry up with an order for my family. These problems never occur when the owners son is around however he is frequently preoccupied with other ventures. As it currently stands I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone while it exists in its current state.

WORST SERVICE EVER. PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE. They rolled their eyes at us when we asked for something we already ordered that they forgot to bring, threw (literally threw she had to catch it with her bare hands so it wouldn't slam her in the chest) a hot plate at my friend, refused to get us the correct soda we ordered and told us to deal with it, and were racist toward my friends. We couldn't eat because we lost our appetites from their horrible attitudes. We confronted the girl that did all of this and she said “no I didn't.” First, you did, second, don't give more attitude when confronted about your behavior, say “oh I'm sorry I didn't realize I was doing that but I apologize.”Please dont support such awful and racist people. The whole reason we came in was because we had a good experience dining there the night before; the same lady and staff was working, the only difference was that our party the night before was two white people, and the night after was two white people and two Latinas.I am appalled at their blatant racism. I left fuming and I was so embarrassed of how upset I got, until I realized that she is a racist, evil person who should be called out and confronted especially when she tries to change reality by not admitting her wrong. Please support other Pho houses, I promise its worth it. No racism or attitude and better, cleaner food.

Flew late into LAX last night and was trying to find a pho restaurant that was still opened. Came across this place after a quick Google search & decided to give it a try. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I was greeted immediately by a staff member and was seated right away. He asked if I had children in my party and I replied yes, 1 child. He promptly brought out a bowl of pho noodles and broth (no meat) free of charge for the child. I think the tea is free as well. Pho itself was tasty with a very delightful and aromatic flavor- hardly needed any hoisin/sriracha sauce. I always test the flavor of a pho by its broth and if it doesnt need much flavoring, then it passes in my book! You have the option of big or small noodles here, I myself got the small noodles but saw many patrons got the big noodles, so maybe Ill try that next time. The gau (fatty brisket) was pretty fatty so not a fan, but the filet mignon was pretty tender. Egg rolls were alright and pretty pricey for just 2. Pho prices were very good though. The restaurant itself is small so seating can be limited. We came in before the late night rush crowd and saw that ppl had to wait that came in after us. SO all in all, I would return, esp since they open late on the weekends for those late night pho cravings. Skip the egg rolls, but the pho (and price) is definitely worth it!
Tallgrass Drink
12945 Beach Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92841, United States
Anyone who knows me knows that I love boba. I drink boba almost everyday and Ive always felt guilty for consuming all that sugar. Im glad I found Tallgrass, as its become my go-to for a healthy alternative to regular boba. Because they use sugar cane juice as an all-natural sweetener instead of just pure sugar, its much healthier and much more refreshing. After I drink regular boba, I always feel dehydrated and need to drink lots of water, but not with these sugar cane drinks. These drinks are perfect for a hot summer day and to quench your thirst.I love their coco loco (the regular sugar cane juice with coconut juice and coco bits). Thats my go-to, but I also like how I can get milk tea with a choice of tea then to top it off with milk, sugar cane and my choice of toppings. Its so refreshing and such a nice change to regular milk tea boba.Ill certainly be back again to try a few other drinks out.***This place is also way better than Cococane. I always liked Cococane, but they fill up the cups with crushed ice and the ice always melts and waters down my drink. At least here they use cubed ice and fill up the whole cup so you really get a lot of bang for your buck. The drinks here also taste fresher and I love how I can add as many toppings as I want for just $0.75!
Vientiane Lao Thai Restaurant
10262 Westminster Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92843, United States
Solid Laotian food at affordable prices. This place used to be a hole-in-the-wall with only a handful of tables. Now, everyone knows about it thanks to word of mouth and Yelp.I sat with a regular who came in just for beer. He told me that to keep up with the demand, Vientiane doubled the size of their dining area several years ago. The place has become so popular that they even have the guts to charge 19% gratuity for parties of 10 or more.Kao poon: Laotian rice noodle soup with a heavy coconut milk broth. Unlike the khao soi, a popular soup noodle trending in Thai restaurants recently, the kao poon is a much more mild dish. The broth is neither heavily spiced nor overbearingly sour, instead it tastes split between sweet and tangy. Most of the spiciness is produced from the galangal, but with low intensity, as it is covered up by the generous amount of coconut milk added. The broth is somewhat thick and silky, leading me to believe some coconut cream is used in the kao poon. The other half of the kao poon are the thin rice noodles that soaks up the rich coconut broth. I chose fish as the topping. It was served in pounded form (I guess thats the local Lao prep) that drowned in the broth and was not remarkable. The kao poon was accompanied with a tray of banana blossoms, dried mints, and cabbage, a similar set to what is served with Vietnamese bun bo hue.Kao poon was hearty and flavorful, but I would probably skip it since noodles in a cloying broth is not my thing. I didnt feel like the ingredients meshed with a sweet broth. I personally prefer the khao soi more for its spicier soup base, and I would rather eat soup noodle with a chicken leg than pounded meat.Sai oua: Laotian pork sausages served with a fiery nam prik dipping sauce is Vientianes bread and butter specialty. From what I observed, Vientiane sources sausages which undergo a fermentation process. As I understand, the fermentation is to develop the sausages sour flavor and soft interior texture.Vientiane chefs grill the sausages on point, the exterior is made crisp before served. It was perfect. The nam prik blend was a few notches less fiery than expected (probably 7/10 spice level, less intimidating than it appears), instead it was just extremely pungent with a hint of sweetness. This dipping sauce was somewhat aggravating to the tongue, I liked it. In addition to Thai chili, there was definitely a generous amount of fish sauce and garlic added in the nam prik. Its strong savory flavors paired very well with the grilled pork sausages. I think that the sausage is a must-order at Vientiane. If you like the nam prik, Vientiane stocks a few varieties in the beverage refrigerator for customers to purchase. The last time I checked into Vientiane, it was crowded even on a weekday. I dont think it is still an unknown hole in the wall anymore. If you havent yet, go check out Vientiane Thao-Laos before you become the last Yelper to try excellent Laotian food in Orange County.

Great food, horrible service. I have been craving shellfish for awhile now but coming from Dallas, TX there arent many good options for it, especially cooked in a vietnamese fashion. This place had ALL the great shellfish options, I mean look at the name of this place, its literally called shellfish and hotpot. Anyway, I wouldve given it a 5-star rating butttttttt the service wasnt very great. It started off great, we were seated pretty quickly but when the food was served, the waiters didnt even try to put it in the center of the table. They would put it right in front of one of us even though we were eating. This food is obviously family styled, so it needs to go in the center of the table. Another thing with that got on my nerves at the beginning was when I was obviously doing something and they wanted to put the food right in front of me but they had the whole other side of the table to place the food down, I had to tell him to do it; they were lacking common sense. Something that was weird to me was that they want you to order at once, if you order an appetizer and want to order something afterwards they said it would take longer for it to get out. Weird. Also, they were out of razor clams, one of the main things I was craving. lame.
