Bellamys Restaurant
417 W Grand Ave, Escondido, CA 92025, United States
I visited Bellamy's last night for the first time. Such a beautiful restaurant with top-shelf service. Fernando was personable, funny and a truly professional waiter. The dining experience is unique, built around their French influenced, California-modern cuisine. We ordered a variety of dishes and the overall quality of the food was somewhat of a mixed bag. When making my reservation I requested a booth but we were sat at a table. I found the chairs to be very comfortable. When offered water service, I thought I was back in Europe! We were given the dizzying choices of sparking, mineral, still, tap, etc. For what it's worth, the tap water here is very good. The classic margarita extremely sour. I enjoyed the impressive wine list. The “Baby Romaine” is their version of a Caesar Salad. It had a little too much going on, especially the pepita seeds which I found unnecessary. The seared poached egg was a nice touch. Bread service was fairly pedestrian. Lukewarm, flavorless sliced white loaf accompanied by rock hard butter triangles. My son enjoyed his French Onion Soup. Unfortunately the baguette was soft; either not toasted or already sogged out. My wife had the “Steak Frites”. Made with a prime flatiron steak that was cooked past the requested medium-rare. Fries were very good; thin, hot, crispy, etc. My son's “Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib” was probably the best dish among the three.I ordered the “Baja Stone Crab Pasta” and in retrospect wished I hadn't. The spaghetti was cooked to a perfect al dente, but didnt have enough moisture in the lemon-butter sauce. The strands just stuck together and didn't easily separate. The crab seemed rather institutional. Looked and tasted like a pasteurized, bulk food-service type crab. There was such an abundant amount of crab in the dish it overwhelmed the balance with it's strong smell, flavor and mechanically separated texture. I couldnt eat it all. For dessert, the Creme Brûlée was tasty, but the top was soft, completely void of the glassy snap you expect from a good brûlée. The Lemon Cheesecake tasted excellent and was beautifully presented. At the price point of this establishment I had higher expectations for the food. Everything else however was quite lovely.
Jimbos
1633 S Centre City Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92025, United States
It has taken me a few years to write this review. The reason I say this is because I have been holding out hope that Jimbos and their produce policies would change. Over the years I shopped at the Del Mar, 4S Ranch and Escondido stores and I see a repeating pattern of low quality produce. To charge customers a premium to get 100% organic and non-GMO is one thing but that is no excuse to sell sub-par quality at those extreme prices. So, this morning I went to Jimbos to do our weekly shopping trip and of course, I see exactly the same old (bad) cucumbers sitting in the cooler that I saw a week ago (see picture). This is just the beginning. Last week, I went to grab green beans out of the cooler and ended up grabbing a handful of slimy beans. You see, they dont rotate their stock as they should. The fresher stuff was on top of the old and slimy stuff at the bottom. They obviously dont employ basic food rotation practice at their stores: first in, first out. It goes on. I shouldnt have to spend 10 minutes examining all of the berries in a container because youve been burned so many times. This is unacceptable. The practice extends to the deli area as well. I cant tell you how many times Ive seen mold on the falafels. I bought some from the 4S Ranch store, brought them home and then was super disappointed. From that point on, whenever I wanted falafels, I would check them first. Every time I did, they were moldy.Ive witnessed these practices and sub-par produce at all three of the stores Ive mentioned. Since it is a pattern, I will extrapolate that this is due to top-down management decisions in order to maximize profits from already inflated prices. I think Mr. Jimbo should be embarrassed if he wasnt embarrassed enough by the rat infestation in his Del Mar store a few month back. If you dont believe me, contact the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. If only Whole Foods was closer to my home, I would be shopping there exclusively.

Pieology Pizzeria Escondido, CA
1334 W Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92029, United States
My wife and went to Pieology for the first time last night. We ordered via the online app which was easy. Ordered at 4pm for. 5pm pickup. When I arrived at 4:45 to pick up the pizzas I was impressed with the look and cleanliness of the restaurant. The staff were super nice and I watched them make and cook pizzas.Heres where it started to go wrong. When I got there I was watching them cook and I noticed a pizza that seemed to match my order taken out of the box, cut and boxed and put back on top of the oven. Five minutes, the churro pizza was taken out and placed on top of the box I thought was mine. So yeah, it was our order.Ten minutes later, just a minute shy of five, my wifes order was done.I got the pizzas and went to home to enjoy them.I ordered a thin crust pizza which was flaccid, rubbery and had little or not flavor. And yes, it was stone cold. If you cant time the orders to come out at the same time then keeping them warm is a good idea. Pieology failed at getting even close to that.My wifes deep dish pizza was good. Hot and well prepared. She said it was good. The churro pizza, a dessert item, was, well, it was floppy thin crust not cooked enough and then slathered with some kind of weird icing. Eating it was rather like consuming some round rubber sheet sprinkled with cinnamon and the slathered in some artificial icing. We love trying new things and this experiment was deemed a failure. Failure to set up the order and cook it so everything came out hot at the same time. Failure to cook a thin crust pizza in a manner that left the crust crispy and not rubbery and tough. Total dessert failure. The people were nice and the place was cool but that in no way makes up for miserable food.I would not recommend Pieology. I know we arent going back because North County has lots of great pizza options.
Taco Bell
627 N Escondido Blvd, Escondido, CA 92025, United States
Parking lot & drive through are terrible. EXTREMELY tight amd once youre in, you cant get out until you go through the drive through, and yes that means even if you park and est inside. For doordashers and others alike, DO NOT ACCEPT A RIDE TO THIS LOCATION, they will have the food ready and you can even see it inside sitting on the front desk, but theyll make you wait in the drive thrlugh line to get it.While I was there, there were 2 other individuals who had to park in a different parking lot and walk over, knock on the locked door, amd explain how their order was wrong. They were told they have to go NACK through the drive through to correct it, mind you they line was at least 10-15 cars deep AND at LEAST a 15-20min wait time.Horrible efficiency, terrible initiative from the employees, and all that just for some taco bell.NOT WORTH IT!

Flavor, quality, and amazing service! My family and I been here multiple times (both as a dine-in guests and for takeout) and have never been disappointed. Although we've ordered multiple menu items, here are some of my personal favorites:Pork spring rolls: I love that they aren't overly full of fillers. Sometimes you get spring rolls at other places and it's ALL noodles and/or greens. The pork is wonderfully flavorful and the noodle/green ratio is perfect.Salt and Pepper wings: SO crispy and as a garlic lover, I adore the full cloves of garlic with the peppers. I easily could eat an entire order on my own.Pho with brisket and meatballs: The best way I can explain the broth is clean but flavorful. I've had pho before that is laden in grease or tasted watered down. The pho here is delicious and comforting. The service is always SUPER friendly. I never feel rushed; always welcome. The interior is open, bright, and incredibly clean. And yes they have an adorable robot that delivers your food.If you're looking for high quality Vietnamese food, this is your place.
Aunty Devis Meat Pies
1519 Suite D, Industrial Ave, Escondido, CA 92029, United States
Im from New Zealand, which IMHO is the home of the best meat pies in the world! Id heard about Aunty Devis pie shop years ago (and may even have bought an extra freezer just to accommodate them!) but only got to try them this week, when an errand took me nearby. After being bitterly disappointed by various Australian meat pies in LA (all of which were too dry for my taste) I am glad to report that Aunty Devis pies are far superior (another example of New Zealand out shining its bigger cousin ?)! My mince*-n-cheese was the perfect consistency and the pepper steak was tender and delicious! The pastry was perfect too. And Yay! I got 6 for my freezer to take away (not that theyll be in there for very long!). COVID may have stopped me from traveling home to see my family (and eat meat pies to my hearts content) but Aunty Devis pies fill the pie gap till I can get back to New Zealand. Try them! Youll be glad you did. ?*ground beef
Pizza Guys
501 W Felicita Ave #103, Escondido, CA 92025, United States
Pizza was ok I'd give it a 5/10 on its own. Had the Hawaiian the ham they use is big massive slices and I'm not really too fond of that. I do like their red traditional pizza sauce pretty good. But other than that it's pretty run of the mill pizza it didn't blow my mind or anything. The real big disappointment was the wings. I love hot wings so I wanted to try them, they were a 0/10 I regret not taking a picture. One of them didn't even look like it came from a chicken. The sauce distribution was like someone just dumped the sauce on the wings at random the definitely put 0 effort into the dish. The quality of the chicken wings were not good at all either like I mentioned before one of them looked really weird. They tasted like they were just freshly microwaved. I would not recommend them at all for the price just buy some frozen ones at a grocery store and microwave them it will be a lot cheaper and better.
Meadows Deli Market
27980 Oak Ranch Rd, Escondido, CA 92026, United States
Great sandwiches and solid coffee. We popped in to the area to check out the brand new pinball place in the same parking lot. We both grabbed sandwiches and both of them were great. The young lady who helped us with our sandwiches also was pulling double duty at the coffee place inside the same store lolIt also had a bunch of convenience store items. Cat food and beer and exactly what you would expect. The sandwich was great in the avocado in both of our sandwiches was fresh. The coffee was very solid. I got the Mexican mocha which was well made. All staff was very nice to my kids as well. The outside seating was wet from the rain and they still wiped it down and dried it off for us all to find a place to sit. Would absolutely come again.
