Blend and Befriend
407 W 6th St, San Pedro, CA 90731, United States
New ownership has breathed fresh life into Blend & Befriend, and Im loving the changes! If youre looking for healthy, delicious raw vegan bites, this is your new go-to spot.Gone are the days of miscellaneous offerings (arts & crafts) – now, raw vegan specialties are the spotlight, perfect for packing in some serious nutrients and fiber.I enjoyed the Caprese sandwich on their incredible homemade onion bread. Dont let the quotes fool you; this flatbread is flat-out incredible – seriously crave-worthy, with a satisfying crunch and subtle onion-y sweetness. The fillings a medley of fresh tomatoes, kale, basil, and tangy olive oil & vinegar, made a great sandwich.I also enjoyed the carrot coconut ginger soup and this hit the spot on a colder day. Packed with fresh ginger (a dream for ginger lovers!), the creamy carrot base offered warmth and comfort. A quick sprinkle of salt elevated the flavors. My husband opted for the onion bread sandwich (same amazing bread!) with cashew cream cheese, tomatoes, onion, and a zingy lemon pepper dressing. He swapped the kale for extra cucumbers, creating a refreshing twist. Both sandwiches were a winner! He also enjoyed the strawberry moons smoothie, a delightful blend of banana, strawberry, vanilla, dates, mint, and oat milk. It was fresh and satisfying!Beyond the food, I applaud the new owners vision and commitment to quality. Theyve put in the effort to source fresh ingredients and consistently deliver dishes that are both delicious and nourishing. This was a marked improvement compared to the previous iteration (Nuda), which often felt inconsistent.Blend & Befriend has earned a permanent spot on my healthy eating list! I highly recommend popping in for a taste of their reimagined raw vegan goodness.

COMPAGNON Wine Bistro
335 W 7th St, San Pedro, CA 90731, United States
Bonjour! We discovered that typically French bistro, hedging on bohemian design by pure luck strolling down the street. Curiosity enticed us to make a reservation a few days later. We were welcomed by a smily hostess & guided to our table. Having read the menu on the door, we pretty much knew what we would order, however our local guest had to peruse the menu. We decided to order a large charcuterie board while we were discussing the items. Promptly we were made aware of the daily specials. The charcuterie and cheese board was covered by some slices of salami that reminded me of the Jesus de Lyon, some. Good country style pâté, some deliciousProsciutto, three cheeses, a bleu d'Auvergne(may be fourme d'Ambert) some conté, and a less desirable brie looking cheese, and of course there were the north American accoutrements of jam, walnuts, raisins but no cornichon(bizarre!). A basket of acceptable sliced baguette did the trick. We shared the delicious appetizer special composed of « al dente »green asparagus and hot smoked trout filet well balanced with a vinaigrette. The red beet/goat cheese salad lacked some wholeness: the red wine dressing lacked acidity and it doesn't help the beets now days have lost their dark colour and much of their flavour due to seed manipulation. (May be some chopped garlic and parsley would have been welcomed). The beef Bourguignon stole the show, excellent large piece of beef shoulder nicely slowly braised in the red wine sauce with mashed russet potatoes and baby carrots(didn't notice the mushroom, lardons and pearl onions) the bouillabaisse… we are so far away from the Mediterranean Sea…it had to be reinvented and it was, I would have appreciated more than one kind of fish, the sliced insipid fennel(it has no taste when you cook it, that is not the fault of the chef, mind you, probably another manipulation from Monsanto) may be a few drop of pastis would have played the trick, and saffron, what saffron?? The only disappointment was the Muscovy duck leg confit, I couldn't check the pedigree of that duck, but that scrawny leg might have been from a Mulard duck instead, the fat wasn't crispy and the meat firm and dry (was there enough duck fat for the confit process?) We sampled the three desserts: crème brûlée, was good, probably made with half &half cream instead of the 35% cream and no vanilla beans, the chocolate mousse, could have been more airy, the lemon tart, I would have liked more of a lemony punch, maybe by incorporating some lemon zest when you emulsify the cream.A wine bistro..It was indeed! A very well assembled wine list, moderatly priced, good selection of Bordeaux and Burgundy wineries and surprisingly a few Beaujolais(Morton, Fleury…) In all a good experience.A bientôt !
Pupuseria Blankita
48b N San Pedro Rd, San Rafael, CA 94903, United States
This place is wonderful. I found them fully by accident - my car overheated at the gas station next store and I was waiting for it to cool down when I had to pee. This little pupusa place had bathrooms for customers, so my friend and I decided to have dinner while we were waiting. The food here is such a surprise, and the staff are a delight. It might not look like much, but this little place is a diamond in the rough. Personally, I thought the refried beans and the bistek entree were really great! Im told the papusas are top notch as well. I came back the next day with my partner because he absolutely had to try it. We ate until we were stuffed, and they even gave us some empanadas to take home and try. Dont miss this place. Its a gem.
The Chori-Man
2309 S Alma St, San Pedro, CA 90731, United States
Chori-Man is a chorizo specialist tucked into a residential neighborhood in the middle of San Pedro. While a bit off the beaten path for me, Ive now been twice, and if I lived in San Pedro, this take-out spot would be a problem for any aspirations of mine for a healthy lifestyle.Chori-Mans breakfast burritos are becoming legendary because theyre awesome, especially with the houses maple habanero chorizo. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon Chori-Mans tortilla-wrapped communion of spicy and sweet maple habanero sausage, sautéed crispy breakfast potatoes, and fried eggs in a rich and spicy sauce made of the mixture of runny yolk from the eggs, melted cheese, and sweet maple-infused grease from the chorizo. Calling this the best breakfast burrito Ive had in Southern California does it a disservice, as it may also be the best all-around burrito Ive had in L.A.What else makes it so good? For their burritos, Chori-Man uses a steamed flour tortilla, similar to a true Mission-style burrito -- Im not talking about the Chipotle version of steamed tortilla, but rather properly steamed tortillas that become sticky enough that their edges seal and bind together, holding all of the ingredients in place, so that the burrito can be easily be lifted and eaten with ones hands without spilling or breaking. The steaming process in Mission-style burritos affects the flavor of the tortilla in addition to the texture, making the tortilla more a part of the burrito and harmoniously fusing it with the burritos innards.Lets put it this way: Chori-Mans Maple Habanero Chorizo Breakfast Burrito was so good that, earlier this week, I woke up on my birthday and drove 2 hours to San Pedro so I could have it again, as I could think of nothing that I more wanted for breakfast. Thats right, I allowed myself an unlimited budget and drive time and, out of anything I could have eaten for breakfast anywhere in Southern California on my birthday, I chose the breakfast burrito at Chori-Man (and then drove to Rocios Mexican Kitchen for Chilaquiles con Mole Manchamanteles, but thats a future review).Of course, Chori-Man also serves their chorizo in lightly-griddled corn tortillas in taco form. My experience with their tacos has been mixed, with the Maple Habanero Chorizo Taco being the best of the bunch, by far, for similar reasons to why the breakfast burrito made with the same sausage is excellent. I recommend punching it up with the Habanero Salsa available in the shop, which is more medium than fire, but adds some fresher flavors to the taco. The Tolucan Green Chorizo Taco is my second favorite chorizo taco here, mild, and reminding me more of a garlicky Polish sausage than Mexican chorizo. The Argentinian Chorizo Taco was also decent, ironically the closest to what I think of when I think of traditional Mexican chorizo -- salty and savory, but here much leaner. I recommend the houses sweet and spicy Jalapeño Relish on this taco. The Zacatecano Red Chorizo Taco is dominated by a heavy amount of clove flavor that I didnt care for, and the Chipotle Braised Beef Taco tasted way too musky, almost non-beef like. I dont know what happened, but I dont recommend it.My advice? Stick with the breakfast burrito, it takes something I normally dont care much for (chorizo) and elevates it to an essential component in a well-executed edible package of perfection.
The Corner Store
1118 W 37th St, San Pedro, CA 90731, United States
The menu clearly lists 3 sandwich items as being vegan. When I asked whether the bread was vegan, I was told that they didnt know, and could not guarantee it. Im sorry, but you cannot list something as being vegan without knowing for sure. A manager/owner (?) said, I bought the menu this way and left it that way. Ok, but you are the one placing the orders, and you are the one responsible for making sure that the ingredients you are ordering for your vegan items are indeed vegan. How many vegans have paid and eaten there, thinking they were eating vegan, and ended up eating something that may have contained animal derived products. This is deceitful and ignorant. Know what youre selling and dont lie to your customers. It is that simple.
Pirozzis Italian Deli
1453 W 8th St, San Pedro, CA 90732, United States
I LOVE Italian food. I picked this place to take my mom out for a special treat after an afternoon of driving her around San Pedro & her memory lane as she lived there in her high school years.I am sorry to say that it was a huge dissapointment for us both. I ordered a cheese ravioli and she ordered the eggplant parmigiano. The food was not inexpensive. I purchased a small amount of provolone cheese and our two lunch entrees for $27.00.There wasnt any comfortable indoor seating so we sat at a table on the strip mall sidewalk. The tables were all dirty so we cleaned it before sitting down. The utencils were so flimsy and thin that they were difficult to use. My moms fork & knife actually melted when she stuck them upright in her eggplant dish. The food was very hot. Unfortunately, the sauce had NO seasoning as any authentic marinara sauce should. It literally tasted like canned tomatoes and canned tomato sauce poured over the pasta. The stuffing in the ravioli was overly bland and tasteless as well. The eggplant was a number of thinly sliced layers of not tenderly enough cooked eggplant ant with a little cheese in between the layers & covered by the canned tomato flavored sauce. The dish came with a side of bread that was another whopper of a let down. The bread had no substance. It was like biting into a puff of air. Not even the crust was firm or crunchy. The woman who took our order was polite as was the young man behind the deli counter. The restroom was clean.I wont ever order from here again.
San Pedro Cafe
605 S Pacific Ave, San Pedro, CA 90731, United States
This is one of the last great diners. Whenever I go I feel like family. Everyone remembers you when you are there. The staff are amazing and they know whats up. Youre never waiting g around asking for anything. They think of it first. The food is delicious. When I go to other places I get maybe one same dish. Ober and over. NOT at San Pedro Cafe! I have tried so many different things. You can get your traditional breakfasts giant plate of waffles or pancakesEggs and bacon or sausage or steak. Then you have some incredible Mexican options (I love the chorizo) They do a great red sauce and Im in love with the Verde. Sometimes I get bacon and eggs but with Spanish rice, Verde and tortillas. One time I had been having a rough go and I dropped in after not being there for a bit and I was a little sad and Primo came and gave me a big hug and honestly it was genuine. You dont get that out in the world often these days. That is priceless. So listen get yourself over there relax in the cozy OG diner decor and flop in a booth and try something new. Look around and say hi to everyone. Next thing you know you will be happy and full with food leftover for later. You will have found your new go to diner. Be prepared on weekends to wait a bit. They also have a good outdoor arrangement if you arent an inside person. They have tvs on with sports and you can watch a game and eat a sandwich. This is the kind of place where youll want to work your way through the whole menu. Tell them Meek sent you.Im sure you will thank me later. Street parking with meters but there is a pqy parking lot a block away and you may want a little walk after eating so much yummy food anyway. Thats where we park when we go. Behind the 6th st shops.I will add a ton of pics later
Pinas Mexican Restaurant
1430 W 25th St, San Pedro, CA 90732, United States
Been coming here for a few years now. 1st few times we came the Shrimp Al Mojo de Ajo was one of the best we ever had. Real nice garlic flava with about 6-8 shrimp never really counted till today. Today the Shrimp Al Mojo smelled like wet rag, strong smell. 6 jumbo shrimp with almost no flaver by itself. Today the plate came with bell peppers which seemed like a first. Flavor of the shrimp and sauce was very bland and not tasty. The plate cost about $17 so I was expecting a decent portion and flavor. totally disappointed today. Wont be coming back :[ bye
