Pho Huynh Hiep 4- Kevins Noodles House

6/7/2022 STILL A PLACE FOR METhis is my June 2022 update of this great Vietnamese restaurant on top of the hill. Yesterday I had a nice rice plate for lunch with pork chop, pig skin and egg, salad, diluted fish sauce and a bowl of broth. Quite a satisfying meal less than $12. The service was lightening fast—less than 5 minutes. What makes me spend the time to write this review is the grilled pork chop. No way I can replicate the taste of the charred pork fat at home. It smells so appetizing. It tastes so smooth in my mouth. I will put in an extra 15 minutes running on the treadmill at the gym tomorrow but today no one can talk me out of this good lunch. My THANKS go to the friendly and hard working staff at this Phở restaurant.Monday 3/15/2021HAPPINESS IN COVID TIMEOn this sunny but cold day, with icy piercing winds blowing across the whole Bay Area, here I am, finally enjoying my Phở inside Kevin’s Noodle House at the top of the hill. The rice noodle is soft, the hot beef broth tasty and light, the slices of rare beef and chunks of tendon perfectly cooked. Add a squeeze of Siracha hot sauce and hoisin sauce. Finish with a few drops of fresh lime and I allow myself to forget Covid for a brief moment. The seating is very well distanced. The service is fast and friendly as usual. I think I will return to this noodle house more often than before so I can put back my stimuli $$$ into our local businesses.BEST $10 LUNCH IN DALY CITYDo you want fast services? Very decent Vietnamese food? With best prices? Then ignore the one star review and come try for yourself. The rice plate with well marinated pork chop, some salad, a small bowl of broth, topped with an over easy egg and hot tea...all this for ten bucks—let’s not require smiling faces and nice greetings.Surely their Phở cannot compare to the bests I had in Saigon before 1975, but friends, this place does give me a few moments being close to that time of yesteryear. It’s a very nice place for working people on their lunch break or retirees on their outings or students on their skinny budget. A cheap meal with some Vietnamese music gently playing in the background, it’s quite relaxing for me. With a hot bowl of Phở for under 8 bucks, this place deserves a four stars from me especially when it’s cold and windy up on the hill.Good luck to you for trying to find a smiling face at Starbuck Coffee. The staff at this restaurant is efficient and NOT rude at all. It’s a place I will continue to return on a regular basis for my Vietnamese time.

Great little Vietnamese restaurant, friendly service, decent price and cozy atmosphere. The soup was delicious, great for windy and cold weather. I loved the avocado smoothie!

Mama Trans Kitchen
5999 Mission St, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
I would give only 1.5 and 2.5 starts however that is not an option. The employee seemed kind and helpful and would receive 2.5 stars however, couldve told us that the order of four servings would take over an hour so that would bring her back down to 2 stars. There was one single person and one couple sitting in the restaurant and one person came in for their to-go order. The cost seemed fair but not for the portion sizes! The phó and BBQ we craved and waited so patiently for was not found here. Definite let down, this experience strongly reinforced and rekindled our 20yr devotion to the 1st Vietnamese restaurant around the outer Mission and Mission Terrace area. We wouldve ate their exit it was the 1 day they were closed...Thx to Mama Trans for trying, I wish it couldve worked out for us...if only we didnt wait over an hour and just werent so dang fangry, sigh.

Pho Cafe

Ambience was nice and the employees were all really nice! However, the dishes took a really long time to come.Crab meat & tomato soup: the soup was absolutely bland. Have you ever tried putting tomatoes on boiled water? Yeah, it tasted exactly like that. The tomato wasnt even boiled/cooked. It looks like its fresh from the garden/market and dumped into the bowl after they pour the hot water/broth.Grilled pork chop noodles soup: opposite of the tomato soup, this is too salty/sweet not in a good way. I think tasted more like instant pho seasoning that you can get in asian stores. The pork chop on the other hand, is more in the bland side but the seasoning also tasted off.Ill give them points for the portion though. For small bowls and their price, they are huge and have a lot of noodles.

Fil-Am Cuisine

This place is amazing. Had to drop the car off for an oil change next door at lunch time and immediately followed my curiosity and my nose. I got the 2 bbq skewers and rice (I wish I got the pancit since its the same price!) And ten pieces of lumpia and I. Loved. Every. Bite. This place draws you in with the perfect bbq smell for good reason. I got both chicken and pork skewers (one of each) and the chicken was perfectly smokey, almost dry (but still incredibly tasty) and the pork reminded me of Vietnamese pork chops (but smokier!). HUGE portions for the price! The service is standard for literally any Asian cuisine (direct, to the point, Next! What do you want? Anything else?type-dialogue, dont expect any courtesies, just solid, pragmatic, get-in-get-out-you-arent-here-to-chat service), polite enough to get by, and free water in the corner. They sell other dishes and, not being familiar with any of them, asked what some items were, and they honestly looked delicious. Alas, I will have to come back to try it all. The food is displayed out cafeteria style, but dont be fooled, they will grill the bbq the moment you choose it. This dive is a solid win and a new favorite. Whether or not youre in the neighborhood, give this place a try, its worth the portion, taste and price!!!

Luckys Bakery & Cafe
2666 Geneva Ave, Daly City, CA 94014, United States
I found this place through Google Maps, looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. It was only 8 minutes away from where I had an appointment, so I thought Id give it a try. Its located right near some fast food places, so if it was closed or didnt look good, I could still get something to eat. I walked in and was immediately impressed with how clean it looked, and the food options available. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich, which came with fries. Both were really good! People behind the counter were also very nice. Im not in this neighborhood very often, but now I have a place to go when I am, and to recommend to friends and family.

California Fish Grill
153C Serramonte Center, Daly City, CA 94015, United States
Ive seen this place a few times but was always deterred by their high prices, but this place has such high reviews. I saw that the offered a family meal, which included 4 meals, a kids meal, and a salad for about $40. I ordered through the phone, 4 swai meals, 1 grilled chicken kids meal, and salad with balsamic vinegar. I ordered three garlic butter sauces and 1 cajun style, all on the side. I went to pick it up around 7 pm. Its located in Serramonte, but on the side island near sephora. When I got there, there was a separate line for ordering and picking up phone/online orders. Inside is spacious and clean, also with a big patio seating. There was a staff member that just stared at me, but didnt really address me until someone else did. It was a bit weird. My food was ready and I was quickly on my way.I came home and there was honestly so much food for only a little over $40. The kids meal was actually very full. Each meal came with brown/white rice. The fish were decent portions and the rice was cooked well. The amount of shrimp on a skewer is generous too, about 8 pieces per stick. However, they did not include our cajun style sauce, so we were a bit disappointed we were unable to try it. It also seemed they forgot to give us white rice for one meal. The garlic butter sauce was really rich and we thought it would taste much better on potatoes. They did throw in their green goddess sauce which I actually really liked with the salad. Their salad was actually two boxes, and was fresh with onions and tomatoes too.We were impressed with the meal that we actually came again. We ordered essentially the same thing, the family meal, but forgot to mention the sauce on the side. This time we ordered the green goddess and balsamic vinegar for the salad and again tried for 1 balsamic vinegar. Again, they missed one meal with rice. The food here tastes great and I was really impressed. However, I am still disappointed that parts of my order was missing, even if it was just the rice/sauce. I also think many of their other dishes are overpriced and cant bring myself to buy them. However, their family meal is truly worth it and Ill most likely come again. Its difficult checking orders there, so I wish they could get the minor things correct, especially when the receipt on the bag states exactly what I ordered. I also wish their boxes were compostable/recyclable.

Banana Island
273 Lake Merced Blvd, Daly City, CA 94015, United States
This place feigns importance nor does not respect a customers allergies! A lot of room for opportunity for their customer service and follow-up.We ordered the salted cabbage and bean curd soup (Did not specify it had shrimp on the menu, and I am moderately allergic to shrimp). When the soup came out, we politely asked our server (bald headed guy) if they could change the soup since I mentioned I was allergic to shrimp. The new bowl of soup came back suspiciously quick, and to my fear when I was halfway thru my cup there was a little shrimp piece- seems like they just scooped out the shrimp from the previous bowl!I work in hospitality, and I RARELY complain if I find customer service in a place I visit low-tier. Of course when our server stopped-by I let him know of the situation and apologized, however no follow-up from him after, did not even ask how I was doing if I am having allergic reactions (or dying!).My friends noticed he spoke to a lady in a suit and another server in glasses, because all three of them were looking at our table, and we thought there would be a follow-up from them, but nope! Did not even comp anything and charged us the full check.I only had mild allergic reactions, itching and mild swelling of my lips—— BUT, What if someone else is SEVERELY ALLERGIC to shrimp? Do better Banana Island management!!

Cinemark Century Daly City 20 XD and IMAX

So my husband and I had a blatantly racist experience here with an employee. Were fortunate enough to say that its been two years since we had something so obviously discriminatory happen to us in a grocery store in San Jose. My partner is Indian and speaks with an accent, I am white. We had some free passes for movies that didnt have any restrictions on them from a movie we saw months before where fire alarms got pulled multiple times during our movie and the theatre was eventually evacuated for the remainder of the evening. In any event, my husband asked to purchase and also use passes for the multiple seats we needed. The woman at the box office told him that he could not use those passes on a new release, to which he explained (English is his first language) that these passes dont have any restrictions and showed them to her. She disagreed and said he would need to pay for all seats. I was parking the car while this was happening and only five minutes later, I arrived at the street near the box office and he explained the situation. Assuming it was a mistake on her part, I walked over by myself and asked if we could have tickets to the show using these passes, holding them up and showing her just like my partner had. Of course, no problem she said and I dont think she realized that I was with the guy that she had only 5 minutes before refused. She printed out our tickets and charged us for the remainder as my husband came over quite confused and said, maam those are the same passes I showed you and you refused me. The look on her face was undeniably that of someone who was caught. She stuttered for a moment trying to come up with an excuse but then just offered a sarcastic sorry very loudly and have a nice day! even louder as we went to see the movie. We wrote a complaint to Cinemark almost immediately from within the theatre before the movie started and eventually only received a very generic email about a client not being satisfied and that they hope we will come back. Well, we wont. There are plenty of other theatres actually closer to us even if the parking is less convenient. We are glad that these types of blantant discrimination and racism dont happen to us often but when they do its very jarring and ruins the rest of your day. I realize that Cinemark cannot be responsible for the biased opinions of their employees but they can be responsible for taking complaints for seriously regarding their employees actions. There are cameras in the box office and they could see how messed up this whole interaction but only if they cared enough to.
