Flights Restaurant By Alex Hult - Burlingame
1100 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
This is more of a sports bar than an Asian fusion restaurant as it is listed on Google. A bunch of tvs throughout the restaurant and multiple trio options (hence the name, flights of food/alcohol). The ceviche was great, the cocktail was boozy, and everything is prepared in house. It is more expensive than I would prefer at a casual restaurant, but being able to try three versions of the same thing adds value.

Update (5/12/2024):This has become a frequent weekend lunch spot for my family, and we have enjoyed the food and service here for the past year. However, my experience at the restaurant today prompted me to update this review.I brought my mom here for lunch on mothers day. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:15pm, found a table, and placed an order using the online ordering system by scanning the QR code at the table, like usual. The orders were placed at 12:20-12:23pm. We heard the usual ding from the ordering system, and normally the food comes out very quickly. Not today, we waited for ~15 minutes before I headed to the counter to ask about the order. Mind you the restaurant is practically empty. The staff told me that their wifi is down and theyre unable to receive the order, and proceed to ask me to tell them the custom order that I put in so they can make it right then. We placed 2 custom bowl order, so this is a difficult task. Luckily they were able to find our order half way through my first custom bowl order and was able to complete it. The food is great as usual. The restaurant need to handle this situation better.- The staff only came out to collect the QR code printout from the table after I tell them they probably should do that.- The staff at the counter didnt offer much to rectify the situation other than a sorry about that.- We sat at a table in a practically empty restaurant for 15 mins, and the staff didnt come to check on us. It was me who finds out our order didnt get in.Original:Best Poke in the bay area I've tried so far. Get the Yuzu Hamachi.
I Priv - Sushi Sake Spirits
1125 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
I had a fantastic experience here at I Privé. 5 stars for service/experience, 4 stars for food.I came here with a girlfriend on a Wednesday night. We had reservations and were sat immediately. The service was INCREDIBLY attentive, within minutes of being seated we were asked for drinks, asked if we had questions on the menu, etc. All night long the servers were constantly by our side, giving suggestions, answering questions, etc.We ordered the Joys Sunamono, the Tony & Kathy, the i Belushi, the Josh, the Jada, the Danielle, and the Spring & Rene. The big hits were the Joys, the Tony & Kathy, the i Belushi, and the Jada. The Josh was OK, and I could have lived without the Spring & Rene and the Danielle.Joys Sunamono: Great ratio of fish to other stuff. Really good flavors, great starter, not very heavy.Tony & Kathy: The black cod was perfectly cooked, really nice skin on it.i Belushi: Easily my favorite dish of the night. I would be happy eating this every day for the rest of my life. It absolutely blew the night away. The chef came out and talked to us and told us how to eat the dish, first trying it plain, second trying it on a chip, and third trying it with a sake pairing. He recommended a sake to pair with it, and it was absurdly good. I cannot recommend this dish enough.Josh: We did two spicy tuna, two crab. It was good but incredibly greasy for what it was.Jada: A great combination of smoky and sweetDanielle: Definitely would have been fine NOT eating this. It was very garlicky and wasnt really anything special to write home about, unlike most of the previous dishes wed had. Not a great way to end the meal.Spring & Rene: The salmon belly itself was perfectly cooked and delicious, but the chocolate sauce and other accoutrements werent good at all. Again, not a great end to the meal.We didnt get dessert so no comments there. The cocktails were good but very sweet, the sake was straight on though, as was the whiskey tasting.Overall, Id be happy to come back. There are still so many items on the menu Id love to explore, and most of what we had was fabulous.
Spicy Factory
1803a El Camino Real, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
Kind of a sparse hole in the wall, much less popular than next door Tiger Tea. However their signature dishes are quite good. One thing to keep in mind is that their mild is spicy, and it goes up from there. The rice cake bowl can comfortably feed 2. We did not add any extra toppings as they seem quite pricey. However the dish is quite varied and flavorful as is. One thing I did not like was the hard-boiled eggs which were quite grainy from being overcooked. Otherwise its simply delectable with a tasty balance of sweet, salty and hot, with all kinds of interesting textures from the rice cakes, gooey mozarella, and crunchy veggies. The fried chicken were quite large though not the mutant sized you get at Bonchon. Inside was not as moist as the best KFC but still quite acceptable. The crispiness and the flavors are done well, the spicy and the honey are both interesting in their own rights.Great for a afternoon or late night snack!

My wife and I ordered the burger, lamb shank, and the steak a la carte. It was DELICIOUS! I loved the burger especially, it was so fresh and cooked perfectly. The bread pudding that we ordered at the end was also the best I have ever tasted. The sweetness level was just right and hit the spot! We also each enjoyed a cup of earl gray after our meal with our dessert, and it was splendid. The service was great as well. They brought our food out in a reasonable time and stopped by to ask how we were doing. We received just the right amount of attention, and even though this place is new it was clear the owners are very experienced and are doing a great job!I first thought this place was fast food but when my wife and I sat down we realized it was going to be an elevated experience. The ambiance is very relaxing and it was a nice break from our busy working lives. I definitely want to come back here for happy hour next time!
Ristorante Rocca
1205 Broadway, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
This is a one of a kind place. I was in town for a conference. I was looking for good food and good wine. I found that and so much more. I sat at the bar. Jessica was my bar tender the first night. The service was great. It was a little slow because they were slammed. But the company at the bar was so engaging, and the food and the wine so enjoyable, that I was thankful for the delay. I had the swordfish special. It was spectacular. Most places way over cook their sword fish. Not here. It was perfect. The second night in town I just had to go back. The food and the wine were once again perfect. I sat at the bar again and met a few locals. I also met one of the owners. Everyone was very engaging I really enjoyed my night and my dinner. This is classic norther Italian food. Fresh and fun. I recommend it not only for the food and the pretty decent wine list, but for the atmosphere and the people as well. If you are traveling in this area, this place is a must. Its like being at home with your your family. Nothing awkward about dinner alone here! Loved it!
Mingalaba Restaurant
1213 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
I decided to have dinner here on Sunday 3/13. I was in the area and Mingalaba had been recommended to me for good Burmese food. Yelp said there was a 9-19 minute wait so I put myself down on the waitlist since I was about 5 minutes away. This review is purely based on my bad experience with their service. If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would. My bf and I came in at 6:45 pm. There were a lot of people coming in to pickup takeout orders. None of the servers acknowledged us. When I finally got the attention of a lady who looked like a hostess, she rudely pointed and told us to wait 5 mins by the door. Finally, one of the servers sat us a table. It took a while for us to place our order (Tea Leaf Salad, Mo Hing Nga, Burmese Style Noodle) and this is when things went downhill. My bf and I noticed that there were 3 other caucasian parties that got sat down at tables shortly before and after us and they immediately got helped. Their drinks and food came out pretty quick. I assumed that the kitchen is busy but I kept seeing other tables with caucasian people get their food first. I did not want to assume the worst but I was already getting a bad feeling. After waiting patiently for 30 mins, I asked one of the servers to check on our food and he said our food was going to be ready soon.40 minutes had gone by and the caucasian couple who had sat down next to us about 10 minutes ago already got some of their food. This was when my bf and I decided to just leave. We were furious and hungry and felt like we were being discriminated against because we are Asian. I have grown up in the Bay Area and this is the first time I have experienced racism and felt discriminated against for my race.Do not let let the 2.3K 4-5 star reviews fool you. This restaurant DISCRIMINATES and is RACIST. It is a shame that an Asian restaurant is racist towards Asians. I have never walked out of a restaurant before and I am glad I did not give any of my business to Mingalaba. Coconut Bay Thai Restaurant
1107 Howard Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
Went there for a late lunch as we were a bit busy that day. Most restaurant already closed and wouldn't open until 5pm.The restaurant was bigger than we thought when looking from the outside. The decorations were pretty and the seatings for each table were spacious. The staff were friendly and attentive. It was our first time having coconut rice. We only had coconut sticky rice before. Well, nevertheless, it tasted just like coconut sticky rice, minus the sticky part.We ordered their Fresh garden rolls, Legendary pad thai and Wonton soup. The fresh rolls were good, but the sauce was a bit plain compared to other Thai restaurants. Pad thai was delicious, as well as Wonton soup. The wontons were very tasty, but having them with spinach instead of bok choy kinda put me off.Overall, this place was more of a Thai fusion restaurant rather than an authentic one, but their food was good regardless. The price could be on the expensive side compared to other restaurants.
