Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
8855 Apollo Way, Downey, CA 90242, United States
**Pick Up Stix Downey Review:**Located conveniently in Downey, Pick Up Stix offers a diverse menu of Asian cuisine, but my recent experience left something to be desired. The restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere perfect for casual dining or takeout. While the service was prompt and courteous, the dish I ordered, beef broccoli, unfortunately fell short of expectations. The beef was tender and the broccoli crisp, but the overwhelming presence of ginger in the dish overshadowed the flavors. This detracted from what could have been a well-balanced meal.On the positive side, the portion sizes were generous, ensuring good value for money. The restaurants cleanliness and adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols were commendable, contributing to a pleasant dining environment.Overall, Pick Up Stix in Downey offers a decent dining option with friendly service and a comfortable setting. However, for those sensitive to strong ginger flavors, it might be advisable to inquire about adjustments to the dish before ordering.

El Sushi Loco Sushi & Mariscos Downey
11837 Downey Ave, Downey, CA 90241, United States
Its decent... We got the Yaki Loco, Bolly Loco, Salmoncito Hot, the chilitos, some micheladas and a Teriyaki Plate. My favorite was the jaiva on the Bolly Loco which we got half fried half not the inside was okay creme cheese and cucumber cant go wrong there though the rice was a bit hard but still soft enough. The teriyaki chicken comes with tempura and rice and the tempura was delicious as was the teriyaki chicken the sauce was what made it. The chillitos were good, its imitation crab with cheese and serrano pieces fried with a sweet sauce. The Salmoncito roll was eh honestly, the salmon was a bit dry and was sparse with cream cheese and cucumber and then had that sweet sauce on top. The Yaki Loco is their fried rice, it has good ingredients (bacon, calabasita, beef, shrimp, egg) but the rice was undercooked? It was a bit squishy and runny and again lathered with the sweet sauce and spicy mayo. I had enough of that sweet sauce they put it on everything so everything tasted the same! Go easy with it yo! The micheladas were good they fill the glass with ice and a concoction of sauce then being you a can of Clamato and your beer of choice. Overall the pricing was fair and customer service was great(waiter, busboy, and hostess were all nice and attentive), the drinks werent bad at all,t he decor was clean and comfy, the food could use some improvements but its a decent place if your looking to have some sushi and your partner wants some tostadas de ceviche and a beer. Just expect to wait a while, we waited about 45 minutes but maybe as the hype goes down the wait will too.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Waba Grill, and let me tell you, it was a flavor explosion from start to finish!First up, the Boom Boom Tacos. These tacos took my taste buds on a thrilling journey. The combination of tender, seasoned meat, crunchy vegetables, and that “Boom Boom” sauce was nothing short of extraordinary. The sauce had just the right amount of zing, adding a delightful kick to every bite. I couldn't get enough of these tacos; they were an absolute sensation.Next, the Waba Bowl was a true revelation. It was a hearty and healthy choice. The perfectly grilled protein, whether it was chicken, beef, or tofu, was incredibly succulent and flavorful. The variety of fresh vegetables and steamed rice added a fantastic balance to the dish. And the teriyaki or spicy sauce options elevated the overall taste to a whole new level. Each bite was a delightful combination of textures and tastes. The dining experience was made even better by the friendly and attentive staff like Cristina. They ensured everything was just right, from the order to the service. In summary, the Boom Boom Tacos and Waba Bowl at Waba Grill were a culinary adventure I won't soon forget. If you're looking for a satisfying and mouthwatering meal, Waba Grill is the place to go. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu.Bon appétit!

Where to start... 4 of us ladies decided to come here to eat late night (because they close at 10:30) we walked in a girlfriend wanted coffee they have a coffee machine so she puts in .25 cents and her coffee was served she bought 2 more both progressively lighter than the other. The last one looked like dirty see through water. The workers laughed when we told them. When we sat down it took us 20 minutes to get a waiter BUT there were 4 people chatting at the register (1 lady and 3 guys) we caught the man cleaning the tables and told him who was supposed to wait on us he said no ones come, its been a long time. We thought the same. So this guy comes takes our drinks. We order and the food comes out i ordered the #20 teriyaki rolls, they were gross, dry and burnt edges i banged some pieces against the plate and it it clinked against the plate. Its about 10:00 and we get the bill, we thought, we just got served what the heck! So he comes back 15 minutes later Were about to close the registers, if you could please make uour payment. He stood there looking at me and my girlfriend for a solid 3 minutes then he walked behing me to look at my other 2 girlfriends to do the same. We felt SO uncomfortable. We still had 15 minutes left, we dont see eachother that often. So we pay out bill and we want to pay 4 ways. They do not accept more than 2 cards per payment. So needless to say this place was not what we had in mind and we will NEVER be coming back to eat here. Well just take our $96 bill elsewhere, thank you very much

Hong Kong Chef
10311 Lakewood Blvd, Downey, CA 90241, United States
I was wandering the streets as my stomach was telling me to get some grub, so I see this Hong Kong place and my face lit up. I go and it feels authentic. I feel the atmosphere, so I sit down and almost right away I was served hot green tea and a small cup. I serve me a cup and it was great. Typical green tea, pipping hot. This is where it starts to go a little souf. I ask for an ice water and was given room temp tap water with no ice. Okay, Ill drink it its fine. Then these two women walk in almost immediately asking to be seated as they were on their lunch break. The server had to tell a customer to forfeit his table as he was leaving, they apologized but there were other empty tables, why did the customer who was already on his way out, was rushed out. Anyways, the part that got me is that these two new customers get immediately serviced and even got their food before I got my appetizer!! (I ordered before they got seated). My meal was the lunch special (served 12-3pm for $9.50 tax included) which came with tea, biscuits (fortune cookie at the end), soup, rice and your choice of meat. The soup was the best part. It was piping hot flour soup, first time trying it and will ask for it in the future. It was flavorful with tofu and egg with a nice warm homeish flavor. I was EXCITED for the meat and rice. I was horribly let down. I got the beef and broccoli side with the rice. The rice portion was really good, actually some might say too much, but there was absolutely no flavor to the rice. I know white rice is supposed to be somewhat flavorless, but Im talking about it felt like I was chewing on nothingflavor and swallowing a mass. Their hot sauce was FANTASTIC, added amazing spices and flavors without being too hot so you could put a good portion to have the added texture of the seeds and the vinegar boost. I had to add quite a lot for the rice to be saved. Here we go with the meat. I was disappointed here aswell. The broccoli was cooked to perfection, however. Crispy enough but cooked enough so it melts with the teriyaki sauce, which by the way was also pretty good but it was somewhat runny and lacked a distinct flavor profile. I added the excess sauce on the rice so there was more flavor. And the meat, I can say it was cooked to perfection as well. A little bite but melts in your mouf. I had to constantly do a base of rice, one broccoli, one piece of meat, and a scoop of the chili sauce for it to be a decent spoonful. Overall, this is a good meal to get filled up with but it severely lacks flavor. The soup and chili sauce were the saving grace. As a side note, I asked for a second cup of water with ice and got it, it was good. I asked for a third cup and she glanced at me. (The cups were like three gulps worth, small cups) She then opened the tap where they were cooking and washing their dishes and filled the cup. I didnt drink that cup of water. I would like to give this place a second chance but Im not sure if itll be worth another $10 to be disappointed by the entree. This was a rough one, but I dont regret it. The stage was set, and authentic but the cook just wasnt adding the right flavors, albeit they did phenomenal on the cooking.

The Market Place Grill Cafe Downey

I visited this restaurant on Thursday, May 9th at 7pm with a group of 3 friends. The location is clean and well organized, with beautiful floral decorations inside. The patio was well maintained and attractive. The dessert display was well stocked and nicely presented. I ordered a Feta Burger. I was immediately told they no longer make the Feta Burger. I mentioned it was on both the large wall menu and the small take out menu. The order taker just smiled and did not offer any alternatives. I asked for the regular cheeseburger. The order taker asked what I wanted for my sides. I was not familiar with the sides and asked what they had. She pointed at the wall menu and said, Uh, anything under the green part that says sides. I asked for a salad and fries. We sat down and was greeting within 5 minutes by a server who had our drinks. She placed each drink in front of the appropriate guest. The food items were delivered shortly. To my surprise, the burger was served with a mixed greens salad with large pieces of feta cheese. The fries my friend ordered had large pieces of feta cheese as well. The tuna salad she ordered had slices of feta cheese included. I didnt understand why a feta cheese burger could not be made. My friend tasted her tuna salad and said the fish was greasy and had a strong fishy taste, unlike all the previous times she had been to the restaurant and ordered the same dish. She asked the server to take it back because of the flavor. She accepted the offer of a grilled shrimp salad as a replacement. The order was placed and the server came back with a receipt for an additional $5.50 charge. We gave the server $6 and was never given back change. We had to flag the server down when we needed beverage refills and again to ask for to go boxes. My friend was not happy with her tuna salad. She feels the quality of fish went from white albacore tuna to dark, oily meat. And for a higher price. The obvious fact the restaurant had feta cheese but didnt want to make a feta cheese burger seemed ridiculous. The quality of the food was otherwise good, but the level of customer service needs to be improved.

Where do I begin?Well, I will start with parking. You can park on the street or pay $8 for valet. I did valet because I didnt feel like searching for parking. It was quick and easy.Walking up to the restaurant I instantly felt like I was in Miami or Vegas. The music was LOUD and there were bottle girls almost naked walking around and a ton of stuff going on. I was overwhelmed. EVERYTHING WAS LOUD and I had no clue what the hostess was even saying. That was really badMy friend and I were sitting inside and I dont think they had air conditioning. The restaurant was cute and hip and I loved the decor. However, It was HOT and the music was loud. So loud I couldnt think straight or converse with my friend. That was pretty bad again, I couldnt even hear the waitress. Im serious it was loud! We asked if we could sit outside and the waitress was nice enough to move us. It was better. Maybe we were sitting under a speaker inside but it was bad. Outside we also had a breeze. The music was still loud as heck, but I could hear my friend a bit more.I tried the Burria Tacos and they were really good. It was my first time having them so I was happy! I think my friend had the Aguachiles and it was delicious and fresh and seasoned well.I ordered 3 Whiskey Smash and they were excellent and strong. I wish I could have ordered it by the bucket lol. So good.My friend had 2 Whiskey smash and one Sangria and she enjoyed them as well. The customer service was okay all around. Our waitress Evelyn was nice and informative. I enjoyed her.I probably wont be back ONLY because the vibe and loud music isnt what I want if Im trying to converse with friends. Again it gave a Miami Beach, beach club, Vegas poolside vibe and I dont think thats my vibe. The food is yummy though so I would order to go!The music was way too loud and this is a club that offers good food. if you dont like clubs, dont come here.

Such a enormous disappointment.I was so excited to try this establishment.Service was dreadful, they staff was overwhelmed and completely out of synch with customers needs. They were overstaffed, yet they all congregating, wandering around aimlessly while customers were being neglected. We had no server for aprox 20 min. Host was overwhelmed as well and didnt have any authority. Finally she asked a waiter to help us and they blatantly refused saying they were too busy. In front of us, making us feel uncomfortable. Finally a server took our order.Food was another disappointment. It was another 30 min wait. Food was plated divinely.Yet was bland. We had aguachiles rojos, spicy but no flavor. We also had a campechana and shrimp cocktail. Both were lovely to look at but again noflavor, kinda a watered down tomato juice with absolutely no lemon, salt, pepper. Just bland. We tried dressing it up by pouring aguachile sauce but was pointless.Coronas were warm and margaritas were 90% ice and no tequila. Ambiance was chaotic. Couple sitting behind us were very intoxicated and belligerent towards server and completely disrespectful to families sitting close by. Server continued to offering and bringing them beer. Finally they left without paying whileOther employees watched and didnt stop them.We had a negative experience and will not be returning. The worst 80 dollars ever spent.
