Taishi Hainan Chicken
1000 Torrance Blvd ste b, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, United States
So glad I finally found a great hainese chicken place near my area! The best part is that it is also a thai chinese hainese chicken place, and it honestly makes me so happy since I grew up eating chicken over rice thai style most of my life. Their menu is limited but honestly it helps when youre not the best at narrowing down your options. I decided to get the fried chicken plate along with the free herbal chicken soup for checking in #protip. I have to say I enjoyed every bite from the soothing soup to the garlicky rice to the moist tender chicken to the flavorful sauces! They have amazing variety in their sauces but my favorite was definitely the classic thai hainese sauce. There wasnt anything that I didnt enjoy about the dish. It was definitely one of the best hainese chicken dishes I have had and is on par with my moms own hainese chicken.! Service !The service was super fast and prompt, and we were quickly greeted immediately as soon as we walked through the door. The person who took our order was especially nice, since he accomadated my order of extra garlic in my rice and additional sauces.!Price Point!Initially I thought the price was a bit on the expensive side for $13, but was I wrong! The portions were big enough for at least 2 people with heaps of chicken. The only downside was the rice to chicken ratio since there was sooo much chicken.!Ambiance!A great place to grab a quick sit down bite. Its set up where you order and pick up your food, similar to that of a food court.!TLDR!Definitely an amazing place to come grab delicious thai style hainese chicken. The service was great, the food was amazing, what more can you ask for.
Wooga Sullungtang
1630 W Redondo Beach Blvd Ste#22, Gardena, CA 90247, United States
The overall taste of the food is good, but the portion is too small. I ordered cold noodles and seolleongtang and asked for a little more seolleongtang soup, but they charged extra. Other houses just gave it to me, but I thought it was too mean. If you behave rudely while selling food, customers will stop coming. Also, the amount of cold noodles is too small for an adult male to eat, so I wont order it next time. Why is there such a small amount? They may come for the taste of the food now, but I dont know if it will help in the long run. In the United States, if you want to sell food, you have to give them a lot of food so they can say they are full after eating to be successful... Moreover, it would be nice to run a business at a local grocery store and be generous. There are a lot of foreigners coming here, so it would be nice if they could do business without being told that Korean restaurants are rude. If you give a good impression to foreigners, wouldnt your impression of Koreans also improve? The service is always bright and nice to see, and I hope the food service follows suit.

The Standing Room Restaurant

Summary: This is something else. I love places that just dont fit the norm by exceeding expectations and standards. A decent amount of street parking and a small lot. A decision fatigue-inducing menu of burgers, sandwiches, sauces, and toppings, but affordably priced, substantial in quantity, and delicious. This is a hidden gem that is not really hidden anymore, but will continue to flourish as long as the chefs keep rocking the fantastic cuisine.First time here was on a Wednesday evening at around 8:45pm. Found parking across the street easily enough. Made my way into the liquor store adorned with banners saying The Standing Room to help those that wouldnt normally venture into a liquor store for Asian fusion. Made a quick right toward the kitchen in the back and quickly perused the menu (but fortunately had read the Yelp reviews first to get some ideas). The menu is pretty massive and diverse for such a tiny kitchen, so 1) read fast, 2) come prepared, or 3) call in your order :-)I went with the Dressed burger, which had grilled onions, spring mix, fried egg, blue cheese, bacon, etc. etc. It was cooked medium by default, which is my preference. I also got an order of the parmesan truffle fries. The total came to about $11 after 10% off for checking with Yelp. I took my order stub to the woman at the liquor store counter where I paid and was given my receipt to bring back to the kitchen when the food was done. About 10 minutes later, it was ready to go (oh and there were at least 3 more in-person orders and 2 phone orders placed while I was waiting), and I made my way to the car to dig in (there are no tables or anything in the store, so eating location is on your own).Im really glad I decided to eat in the car instead of taking the food home because the burger would have likely soaked through the wrapping. As I unwrapped it, the beauty of its assembly was so evident. Its amazing that the whole thing held together because it was BIG, and it was JUICY. The brioche bun was the critical aspect that allowed the burger to be a success because it was super soft, but it was thick and durable enough to absorb the burgers richness without everything falling apart in my hands. So well crafted...so well architected. This was a thinking persons burger. And the flavors...an evolution. The first bite of the burger was ok. The second bite, better. The further I got in, the more I discovered all of the aspects of the construction. First there was subtlety and a bit of blandness. Then I discovered the spread. Then I found the bacon and its crunchy texture. Then there was the blue cheese that cut through everything, but then was quickly balanced out by sweetness that somehow came out of nowhere. It was so strange to have a single food item change so much throughout the course of its consumption. There were just so many taste and texture elements to discover, that only when it was gone and I was so much fuller did I realize what a culinary journey I had just embarked on.Then there were the fries. By themselves, there wasnt an abundance of flavor. The parmesan didnt stand out, there wasnt a lot of salt, but the crunch factor was excellently balanced. Not too hard, and not too soft. Then I started using some ketchup to add a bit of sweetness into the picture and instantly the contrast showcased the true flavors of the fries. The nuttiness of the truffle, the savory essence of the herbs with parmesan...amazing. And so much food! I can eat a lot, but I couldnt finish the burger and all of the fries. What value! I cant wait to go back to this amazing gem of a restaurant that is like a gourmet food truck in the back of a liquor store in beautiful Redondo Beach.
Spoon House Bakery and Restaurant
1601 W Redondo Beach Blvd, Gardena, CA 90247, United States
Spoon House did it again! I have been going to spoon house since 1995.Every time I bring a friend or a family member, no matter where they are from, they all loved spoon house and said will return again. I recently brought my sister who was visiting from Taiwan and her family there. Guess what? They liked it and we did go back again on the way to the airport.Their freshly baked bread ? was always perfect, crunch in the outside and soft in the middle. The one dollar salad I ordered back in 1995 is still an one dollar salad, even after COVID inflation, amazing! I do appreciate they try to keep the salad simple and the price the same. This way, I can enjoy the salad and still have the room in my stomach and my wallet to enjoy more food and drinks.I looooove their ice tea! They have syrup at each table for the tea. I know, too much sugar is not good for you but I just love it especially with the thin sliced of ?. The iced cold tea, with a hint of lemon and perfectly mixed sugar on a hot summer day is absolutely perfect. The problem I have each time when I visit was the decisions, decisions and decisions. After the amazing churchy crusted bread, the delicious ice tea, and the tasty salad, I only have so much room for a main course but I have a few favorites there. The decision was always hard.I like the open kitchen setting! You can see the staff as they preparing your dishes. I love seeding what's been prepared and served. But, that also could cause problems in the future! I want to try more dishes!!!!!The staff was very friendly and service was quick. They are quick on refilling the drinks or water. The chefs are also very nice and their skills are mad!Our go to dishes are:No. 1 Meat sauce with the variations of eggs and bacon or Weinger.No. 4 clam sauce (they have other variations too but I enjoy the standard one)Hot garlic, it may looks plain with the peppers but it packs with flavors.Shrimp, vegetables, and ? bacon (with bacon well done)Spaghetti omelet with bacon, and yes, well done.I didn't take any pictures this time because I was too hungry but you can find plenty of pictures from my past reviews or from other reviews. There are no shortage of the deliciousness from Spoon House.
Maui Teriyaki
2700 Marine Ave #103, Redondo Beach, CA 90278, United States
This is a delicious taste of Asian-Seafood Fusion. My family has been using her famous Macaroni Salad at parties for over 2 Decades. Seafood is always fresh. Prices are reasonable for the quality and freshness of the food! The staff is nice and they also have Snapple! Small “locals only” hidden gem. Go once, and you'll see what you've been missing! Skrimps are so delicious, fried!!! Salmon is the most delicious over the killer sticky white rice and teriyaki sauce!! Teriyaki Nirvana! Trust!!!
Japonica Redondo Beach
1304 1/2 S Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, United States
Really disappointed with the level of service we received during our first visit to the Japonica location in Redondo Beach. After an amazing first time in Hermosa at their sister restaurant we had high hopes to have an equally great dining experience this evening. Unfortunately, it left something to be desired. While we were ordering our drinks I made a request for a sweeter Sake recommendation and the waiter responded with a snide, “Well we have lots of sakes” and a roll of the eyes. It was rude and disrespectful. Then, after placing our appetizer we waited 15 minutes for our server to return before finally grabbing the attention of a nearby waitress to place an order. When we received it, the food was sub par to say the least. The shrimp udon had a mushy texture, & the white lightning (seared) was cold. When attempting to send back the dish the servers explained to us that they didn't have permission to take the plate, only a manager could. The manager never addressed our poor experience and simply sent the server back to retrieve the dish. Awful customer service. Sparknotes are that we will not be returning to this particular location in the future. Save yourself some time and your hard earned money and try literally anywhere else.
Al Hamra Kabob Grill Redondo beach
2515 Artesia Blvd # C, Redondo Beach, CA 90278, United States
I am a continuous supporter of small restaurants before, during and present of the pandemic. As many close friends know, when I try a new restaurant, I don't just order one or two items. In fact, I try to order as much variety as possible. At Redondo Beach's Al Hamra Halal Café, I order a total of $61.51 including four types of kebab meats, eight different mezze appetizers, and two desserts. What I received and tasted was pure disappointment for all items!!!For appetizers, the kibbeh dough was extremely thick and mushy with very little meat and pine nuts inside. Also, there was only one kibbeh versus two of everything in the mezze platter! The meat filling in the samosa were a bit dry. The two falafel would turn vegetarians into carnivores – extremely dry and bland. Hummus, fries, and tabouli can use a heavy dose of seasoning. The only decent item was the yogurt cucumber salad. The kebabs – chicken, kofta, lamb and beef as well as the chicken shawarma wrap were extremely overcooked to the level of jerky and also lacked seasoning. The final two items that were good are the desserts that were probably not make in-house but brought in – namoura cake (basbousa) also known as a syrup-soaked semolina cake and the kunafa (knafeh), a sweet rather savory version with clotted cream, a hint of sugared rose water, with crushed pistachio and spun kataifi (shredded phyllo). In all honestly, if the owner and chef has no interest in making good food and representing Middle Eastern culture in a positive fashion, they should excuse themselves from the restaurant business.
Furaibo Japanese Restaurant
1741 W Redondo Beach Blvd, Gardena, CA 90247, United States
This was a small, quaint place tucked in a shopping center like area with other Asian eats. The food was not bad, but I couldnt say that it was good either. Let me preface though that we make these dishes at home, and IMO are better homemade. The chicken wings lacked.....chicken. Where did the meat go? The bento was large, but the flavor was subpar for what I had expected. Chicken katsu was crunchy, but the sauce was off (you can always tell a good place by the flavor of their katsu sauce!). Teriyaki steak was tender, but again the sauce was off. Hoise salad dressing was not as flavorful as I hoped and the sides were meh. Miso soup was comforting but lacked tofu and some flavor.Overall, Im glad we tried it, but I would not return.
Lees Tofu
1743 W Redondo Beach Blvd, Gardena, CA 90247, United States
I would have given this place 3 1/2 stars because of the food, however, the service left me feeling sour. The soup is great and so are the sides. It is fairly priced but the portions for the meat dishes are very expensive. If you are looking for a place to eat Korean soup, then it is fine...but here are the reasons i gave this place 2 stars. For reference, I have come to eat here 3 times. The service is not very good.I am multilingual and I have traveled to many places including Asia. The service here is not friendly to non-korean speakers and they often are not attentive. When I finished paying the woman returned to my table and wanted me to pay more tip.I ate alone and my price in total was around 11 ish dollars nearing 12.I was rubbed the wrong way for her believing that tip is mandatory, and that her service deserved more than what I had already given her.I also work a service job and I believe that it isnt a good way to behave with a customer. It hasnt been the first time I have went to a Korean establishment and have been frequently harrased to leave more tip. I believe in tipping well when it is deserved, not because of social obligation. I am still on the lookout for good Korean restaurants with friendly service and am willing to give lee soon tofu the benefit of the doubt and hope it isnt usually like this
South Bay Rice Things
2401 Artesia Blvd UNIT 105, Redondo Beach, CA 90278, United States
Our family has eaten here since the early 2000s and this was one of our go-to locations for cheap and delicious food. We haven't been here since 2019 but it seems like the taste/texture has dropped :(Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - we ordered 2 combo plate and a sushi roll. The pork and chicken katsu were pretty dry and the sauce was fairly salty. The vegetable tempura surprised me since it's much more American ingredients than Japanese and included items such as carrots and green bean (imagine my shock and disappointment when I bit what I thought was a sweet potato…. but it was a carrot?!?! T_T). Recommendation to ask if you can get the sauce on the side for chicken teriyaki since it's a bit sweet. The chicken karaage (fried chicken) was delicious and juicy when we first opened the box but became hard fairly quick as the food cooled. The salmon avocado roll was really good with lots of salmon! The South Bay Firecracker Roll had a nice kick but we probably wouldn't get again since it really is just spicy tuna on a California roll with some spiciness on top. Theres not much alvocado in the either of the rolls and they were a bit wonky. Wasabi doesnt have any kick.Ambience: 3/5 - took the food to go. The restaurant only has 3-4 tables to eat at and one of the walls was just stacked with boxes. Looks like some remodel or design has changed in the past few yearsService: 5/5 - cashier was extremely friendly and let us take our time to make our order. Her quoted time of about 15 min was on point!Value for price: 4/5 - this place has increased in prices but it's still very reasonable and one of the cheaper locations. Unfortunately, the quality/taste/texture has dropped
