While riding my bike I pass by the PurpleMint Kitchen. I’m a carnivore but enjoy all foods. My nose couldn’t resist the delicious aromas emanating from their open door so I wheeled in. I meet Tracy, whom is the owner and several of her family and staff. All very friendly. We chat about the recent influx of vegan options many mainstream restaurants are now offering like Burger King’s Impossible Burger. We also talk about the impact of COVID-19 on business and she informs me that they’ve only been open for 5-months. Opening a new vegan restaurant is hard enough and this crises isn’t helping. They’re considering adding meat dishes to their menu to attract more customers, but I’d like to see them stay true to their original vision.I ask for their recommendations with the caveat of whatever I can carry on my bike. They assure me they have sturdy togo containers, then rush to prepare me a curry potato dish with vermicelli noodles. I’m also given a complimentary vegan chocolate chip coffee. Another customer strolls in so I end my pestering and rush home to enjoy my new culinary discovery. In short, everything tasted very fresh and delicious ?I plan to work my way through their menu and I suggest you give them a try even if you’re a carnivore like me.UPDATE: 09/29/2020“Fusion Eats”, formerly “The Purple Mint” has the same owners, but has streamlined their vegetarian options and added more meat options. I believe the “Fusion” references the fusion of different popular Asian dishes as opposed to American Asian fusion.Per my earlier review of the Purple Mint, before they changed their name and menu, the staff is still very personable and service oriented. On this visit, I tried their Curry Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Korean Fries and Corn Cheese for take out.In short, everything toasted fresh and delicious, but the Korean fries were mind blowing yummy ???

Not too good, as it turned out. What are the odds of finding a good Chinese restaurant these days in southern California? 1-20? 1-15? Somewhere around those numbers. Yes, there are multiple Chinese eateries to be found, that is for sure, but to be able to reach the creme of the creme?Chins Szechwan Restaurant was our latest hit and miss. Amid a fancy decor, and eagerly waiting waitresses, the place looses all credibility once the food starts arriving at the table. Yes, they do have an extensive menu, plenty of expensive dishes to select from, so for us dining in this establishment for the first time our impression in the culinary field was lukewarm at best. These were the letdowns in order of arrival: Assorted Won Ton Soup, $8.75 (serves 3-4). The color of the broth was a deep brown, unusual for this type of soup. When we read assorted won tons, we understood obviously incorrectly, that they would have more than one kind (how tricky the english language can be for the improperly trained). No, it was only one kind, and it had almost no meat, and the noodle or pasta part of the wonton, tasted almost undercooked, terrible won ton, which generally the wonton outer layer is supposed to be softer. Not this version. Broth, intriguing as it sounds being of deep brown color, was less appreciated once tried, average at best with specks of filmy fat on top? Shrimp content, 2 per person and we were 3, carrots, broccoli, snow peas, all customary inclusions in a wor won ton soup. 2.5 Stars. Then, instead of having to go a la carte, we chose an $18.95 per person, which gave several choices and also came with egg roll and fried shrimp, or fried beef dumpling and aluminum wrapped chicken (used to be paper wrapped chicken so very long ago). This appetizers were way below par, sad little affair. 2 Stars at the most.We each was entitled to one dish under this pre arranged dinner, that also came with Egg Drop Soup (small bowl, lukewarm in temperature, average...3 Stars. Can anyone tell we favor lots and lots of soup?). Selections of the ones available that we selected:Hunan Fish Fillet, a la carte priced $14.95. Bland, absolutely zero flavor, plenty of whatever fish they use, serve in a lighted cauldron that kept heating it more. Plenty of green bell peppers, mushroom, thickly cut onions, all soaked with these brown sauce very much familiar as one of their cheapest, similar perhaps to black bean sauce in color and texture. 2 Stars.Imperial Shrimp, $14.95. Medium size shrimp with very little flavor in the traditional see through thick concoction, that I could almost bet contains cornstarch, with peas and snow peas, and very al dente broccoli pieces. A little better this time, 3 Stars.Plum Tree Beef, $9.55. I could try to describe this dish, but I prefer to urgently skip it all together, for it is simply put: a sweet letdown. Inferior beef properly tenderized (oh yes, the Chinese will tenderize any hard meat, that does not mean it is quality beef because is soft, no Siree!), this one was a mound of one of worst beef, this side of the Potomac.Tea requested came lukewarm, almost cold. White rice came tasting old, like it had been under a heat lamp a little past its prime. Rice: 1.5 Stars, Tea: 1.5 Stars. Water, 2 Stars.Service in the hands of capable Diana, from Northern China, was a little better than average. 4 Stars. The price with gratuity included: $81+.We have gone to too many Chinese eateries, and most as of late, are a terrible disappointment. One is better off eating at home, instead of being the recipients of expensive and mediocre fare. The place at 7PM was almost deserted. Should have known better, but we did not, so we paid the price and left regretting having went in the first place. 3 Stars.

You cannot believe how excited I was to see a Chinese restaurant opening up. And when I visited the first time, I found that it was actually an AUTHENTIC Chinese restaurant. And when I say authentic, I truly mean people and cooks speaking in Chinese - both Mandarin and Cantonese! But that wasn't all… the food is absolutely yummy and to get soup dumplings, yummy pan fried dumplings and noddles within walkable distance… I am so tempted to go every week!My kids love the string beans… and that's a complete win! My two older love the dumplings and my husband even said the beef ribs soup was pretty good!I'm definitely a fan and will be heading there more! The menu is small, but everything is made with a lot of thought and done so well!So support local business and head over and try them out!

I recently visited WaBa Grill in Chula Vista and had the pleasure of interacting with Colten at the register. I have to say, Colten was an absolute delight to talk to! From the moment I stepped up to the register, they greeted me with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. They were incredibly patient with my questions and took the time to explain the menu items to me in detail. Not only was Colten kind and attentive, but they also displayed an impressive level of efficiency and organization. Despite a long line forming behind me, Colten was able to keep things moving quickly and smoothly, ensuring that every customer was taken care of in a timely manner.Overall, I was very impressed with their performance and believe that they are an asset to the restaurant. Their positive attitude and dedication to excellent customer service truly made my experience at WaBa Grill a memorable one. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food and exceptional service.

Great food and drinks, but services could have been better. The customer ahead of us was giving the workers a hard time refusing a drink after the workers had already made her drink, therefore pushing other orders behind. If this happened, that customer should wait for her turn again, and the workers should start on other orders. It only makes sure since she is ordering another drinking after all the others order. Yet the workers helped her first, and we waited for at least 20 mins for 4 drinks to go and we didnt even get straws. -_-... if you dont know what youre ordering, dont order it and waste their time and resource and others waiting for their. Ask for a tasting first, at least.
PokeCeviche

I am writing because I would like to complain about a staff member at the ceviche poke shop in Isla Vista, Goleta CA. Today, February 2, 2023 around 2pm. I ordered a ceviche poke using a groupon coupon. I was treated horribly by an older white man around his 50s, who claimed to be the store manager, because I was using a groupon coupon. He told me that my voucher was invalid. However, he told me that other staff members will accept it. I dont get it. I bought this coupon that says a miso soup, a musubi and a poke bowl. And he told me that I could only get one thing but then he told me that only for today he is going to validate my voucher. His service was poor and he was not filling the scoops with food and he also told me that there were no musubi takis, he just didnt want to give it to me. Also, I asked for half salad and half rice and he said I can only make two scoops of rice or salad. Also, he told me that he had the right to tell me that he would not validate my voucher because he is the manager. This man shouldnt be working there, he has anger issues. I was so scared of him and he made me feel horrible

+ Really great menu with lots of variety in drinks and snacks+ Authentic tea flavors and options+ Menu is organized well so its easy to find what you want+ They have vegan milk tea options+ I love that you can customize the sweetness of your drink. 50% sweetness on milk teas is perfect. We tried 25% sweet on a tea drink and it wasnt sweet enough+ Best tea spot that weve found on the central coast+ They have so many options for toppings -- grass jelly, boba, aloe vera, lychee jelly, pudding, and more!+ The interior is super small, but they have a huge deck patio seating. It can get a little sunny because there isnt any shade+ No restrooms+ Parking is difficult here

I live down the road and was looking for something i could walk to for lunch. Honestly, good poke for a fair price. Clean areas to sit and eat. Wide variety of toppings to customize to your liking. I will definitely be coming back to try the poke burrito or the poke tacos. Everything tasted and smelled fresh. Ended up getting a green tea mango boba as well, which ended up being very refreshing along with the meal. Lastly, i enjoyed customer service. Greeted as i walked in, the lady helping create my bowl, double checking all the ingredients as i gave her a list of items. Im happy to have a good poke place nearby in a fairly new area (to me) im living in.

This review is for my phone interaction with a barista who “wasn't comfortable” providing her name because she was terrible over the phone and probably didn't want it to come back to her. But she was working at 2:50pm when I placed an online order and then called immediately. I requested my order be canceled as no time or materials were wasted on making drinks because I called immediately to cancel my order and a refund wasnt offered or yet given.I live in rancho, but when I opened up their ordering system this location was pre-selected as my pick up and I didnt realize it until the order was placed. Screenshot of the order below shows location, order pick up time, and the time the order was placed. I immediately dialed their number, and let them know I ordered to their location when I meant to order to the rancho location. The girl was laughing at me, told me were not really supposed to cancel the order and refund customers who order to the wrong location. I politely pleaded that I live way too far and called right away asking them to cancel. She then tried to tell me (while giggling) that they had already made the order, so my choice was to come pick it up. I got upset and said thats a lie because I placed the order and immediately called them to cancel. My time stamped order and time stamped phone call prove this despite her claim that it had already been made. She put me on hold and then came back giggling saying her manager wasnt there and it was just her and other baristas. She said I could email their manager and told me the info is found on their website. I asked for her name for reference. She told me shes not comfortable sharing her name and then just hung up the phone on me. Im so upset and dumbfounded at this procedure as she called it. Hoping to hear back from management about getting my $10.88 back.

Delicious chinese food fast. This location is conveniently located in the strip mall off Jefferson or El Camino Real in Oceanside. This little gem is snuggled in between the Trader Joe's and BevMo!. The service here is top notch and the food is a solid match. Each entree is packed full of flavor and delight. The crispy noodles and sweet and sour sauce welcome your tastebuds as you sit down and let your eyes wonder the menu at all the tasty options. Their classic Orange Chicken was fantastic, with great depths of flavor. There crispy chicken bites were perfectly coated with a tantalizing sauce that made each bite more delightful. The chicken chow mien had perfectly cooked noodles, rich in flavor mixed with moist delicious chicken and veggies. The black pepper chicken did not disappoint with its own unique flavor palette and veggie mix. The meal portions were great and the price was a value for the quality of the meal. The exterior of the store was bright, clean and inviting. Service was quick and the take-out orders seem to go on seamlessly with their sit down experience. Fast and friendly. If you're in the mood for great Chinese food, this is your spot. Give them a try. Delicious!
