Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
32525 Golden Lantern Suite DE, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
First of all, the food was excellent. No complaints there so I am really sad to have to write this. The name of the business is Pick Up Stix. You pick up the food to go. Its wonderful. My complaint is the customer service. We called for over 15 minutes to try and order food to go. We got off the freeway and called all the way to the restaurant and no one answered. My husband had the phone ringing when he walked in. There was not a ton of activity. There was not a line at the counter. The response when he asked the young woman why she didnt answer his call? I am too busy. He told her the phone was ringing now. Her response? She turned it off at the switch. No apology. Nothing. So a business that survives based on the amount of food it sells has an employee that turns the phone off so she cant hear it. I am a manager of a business and I can tell you that if I ever read a review like this about one of my staff, they would no longer have a job. The food is excellent. I think you need a change in staff that reflects the quality of your food. Trust me. This employee was not excellent.
Thai This
34119 Pacific Coast Hwy STE A, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
An old favorite in a new setting. Thai This was a Dana Point success story, putting Thai food on the list of popular ethnic choices.Always crowded and frequented by the posh crowd of South Orange County. Beautiful ambiance, awesome Thai porcelain table settings, a clever selection of the most appealing Thai dishes, all with humorous names. And then it was gone. Victim to a major development taking over blocks within the center of Dana Point. The reincarnation of Thai This, in a cheap little strip mall, is a tiny place with a handful of cheap tables and chairs. It lacks the charm of its old self and looks more like a sandwich shop than a high-end eatery.Despite its fall from grace as a four star restaurant, one thing remains: the same crazy menu with the same delicious food. You wont go there wearing your best outfit anymore but you will still love the superb food.

Eden Vegan Restaurant

4.5 star. Great vegan Asian restaurant. I do love the fact this is a nice surprise vegan Asian restaurant near Laguna beach. It’s located in a shopping plaza with Gelson’s (in case you missed the entrance) The space is relatively smaller than we expected but enough for big group of people for sure. Staff are nice and professional.Appetizer: Buffalo wings. It’s quite spicy but pretty good.Broccoli vegan beef: I love it. The soy sauce makes it taste flavorful.Curry vegan chicken: oh this is somewhat small portion of food, in my opinion. However, the yellow curry was so good that you just have to give it a try!The only half star off is not too many veggie options. Most items include fake meats, battered tofu, fried tofu, or wheat. I wish they could offer some simple Buddha’s delight or stir fry veggies. Everything is wonderful and would definitely come back to try more food!
Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach
1 Monarch Beach Resort N, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
My husband and I took a few days to get away to this beautiful resort. We were greeted by the valet who was very insistent in taking our car even though we told him we are dropping off our luggage and going to park our car somewhere else. He was very pushy trying to park it just for a few minutes while we unloaded. He even went as far as not allowing my husband to help me transport our bags to the front door. My husband had to stay with the car at all times, the valet said. This first interaction made me quite hesitant on what I should expect as I checked in.Check in: It was absolutely amazing and the exact opposite of our experience with the valet. Russell greeted me with a warm, friendly smile, welcomed me to the Waldorf and offered me cold waters. He was prompt in looking up my reservation and acknowledged me as a Diamond Hilton member. He quickly told me that even though we arrived super early (11:30 am) he would put me on the list to get a room ASAP. He went over all the benefits they provide Diamond members and took my contact information so they could contact me when our room was ready. My husband and I then went on our way to park our car off site (the hotel charges $70 for valet). It wasn't more than 15 minutes after that we received a text saying that our room was ready. We quickly made our way back to the hotel where they immediately told us we had been upgraded to a suite and had their bell hop, Marcel, help us up to our room. Marcel was so friendly and had so many great recommendations for us on what to do at the resort, in the area, etc. He recommended the pizza at the local coffee/food bar in the resort. We did take his recommendation for the pizza and it was pretty good. Marcel was another gem that helped us!Our room: So it was beautifully appointed with a large glass shower, walk in closet with comfy slippers and robes, a separate water closet, double sinks, a bar area, living room with desk are and patio and of course the main bedroom with a comfortable king bed. I was impressed! It was very clean throughout, which is VERY important to me. The only thing missing was a view but I am not complaining at all. I feel very fortunate to have been upgraded to this beautiful room. Our Visit: We took the bus trolley to the beach after we unpacked and changed into our beach wear. The trolley was easy to find and ran throughout the day. It was very convenient! The beach provides chairs and umbrellas for their guests. They bring the chairs and umbrellas to whatever location you want on the beach. Great Service! The Beach House was great with options for food and drinks, and wonderful places to sit. It had a fabulous vibe! We spent many hours on the beach reading, walking the shore and then going up to the Beach House to watch a volleyball tournament. So fun! For dinner we actually ordered a pizza & a Caesar salad and ate it on our balcony. It was perfectly relaxing. We were able to take advantage of the beautiful grounds and walked around the premises and found so many cute seating areas to have a cocktail and relax. The next morning we found an outdoor fire pit where we sat, read and had our coffee. I inquired at the front desk if we could have a late check out so that I could join the yoga class their gym offered. They didn't hesitate and allowed us to check out late. I was able to join the yoga class which took place on their spa's pool deck. It turned out to be a small class of only 3 of us and our instructor, Laura. Laura was wonderful and very helpful in making sure I was doing my poses correctly. I truly enjoyed the class! Before we left we ordered a chicken caprese sandwich at the coffee place again and the sandwich was delicious. I recommend it.Check out: Super easy and fast. They had our bill ready and it was correct. They asked if our stay was good and thanked us for visiting and that they hoped to see us again. We will be back again!
The Shwack Beach Grill
24502 Del Prado Ave, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
Wanted breakfast but they dont do breakfast all day ? sandwich was great otherwise. I ordered the island chicken sand (Half of the whole is shown). The chicken tasted more baked than it was grilled but it was a good cut of meat. The pineapple was delicious. Fresh, juicy, and sweet. The Asian slaw was nice as well; however all together this is a sloppy burger. It fell apart pretty quickly and I had to resort to a fork and knife (didnt want to get too messy on my lunch break). I wouldnt call this a negative per se, but its worth mentioning. I would have appreciated a spicy option, or sauce. The house ranch dressing is seasoned wonderfully. Not to strong but keeps it interesting and original. The potato wedges were very crispy and a good size. ? Definitely be prepared to have drinks to quench your thirst with this meal. The potato wedges were great, but dry. Might want to grab an extra cup of water if youre taking it to go.
Station Craft Brewery and Kitchen
34150 CA-1, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
Had dinner and cocktails here tonight with some friends.Positive: Hostess and support staff(not our waiter) were great, lots of TVs, excellent menu with good variety.Negatives: minor issue with not enough parking/full street parking near by. Bigger issue was our waiter. I’m not sure if I didn’t hear their name because it was so loud but I don’t remember it. We had a male waiter who honestly didn’t care about our group.During our 2.5 hr stay, the other staff members checked up on us more than he did; our waiter spoke to us three times (appetizer, dinner order, and bill.) On multiple instances, we would be looking for him/try to flag him down and he would ignore our table, chit chat with other tables, and walk by our table. We had to flag down a different server to check up on our food which didn’t arrive for 45 MINUTES; naturally it was cold and not good after sitting out. Although the restaurant was busy but not packed, our food came out way too late.I am not sure why our waiter didn’t bother to care about us; optics don’t help though when you are a group of three southeast Asian men with a Caucasian waiter. He happen to pay attention to tables around us that also happen to have patrons who didn’t look like our group. Even while paying the check, between two cards, he walked away to talk with another table; this occurred IN BETWEEN TRANSACTIONS (he couldn’t even stand near our table for more than a minute.)I would come back to this place but I believe our waiter needs to do a better job at waiting on customers, checking up on them, and at least acting like they care.
Proud Marys Restaurant
34689 Golden Lantern, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
Horrible food, discriminatory stafffood was extremely dry and bland. we got 2 burritos and the ahi sandwich. the chicken in the burrito was overcooked and the burrito was mostly sour cream with an extremely soggy toritlla that disintegrated when we picked it up so we had to eat it with a fork. the ahi in the sandwhich had no flavor whatsoever, was completely overcooked and i couldnt chew it for the life of me.on top of all the horrible food the service was TERRIBLE and our waiter (male, blond, late 30s) spent the first 15 minutes of our meal constantly bugging us to leave. the restaurant was only 1/3 full and there was no need to rush us as there were several open tables and no one waiting in line. after we told him we needed some more time to finish our food (we had only sat down for about 15 mins), he left and was absent for the rest of the time and we spent another 30 minutes trying to see where he was to pay the check.there were a few other families who we almost done with their meals by the time we arrived and they were not rushed at all. we suspect that this was racially motivated because the other families there were all white and being treated very kindly and respectfully and were not rushed. we were the only asian people and people of color in the whole restaurant, which i didnt notice at first until we got glares and looks. they were treating the other white families extremely differently from us and a few of the waitstaff even gave us distasteful looks when first greeting us. I would like to add that we were not disrespectful, we were just quietly enjoying our meal with some small talk but felt very uncomfortable.
The Little Kitchen Asian Cafe
24831 Del Prado Ave, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
I am visiting from St George Utah to Orange county which is really home for me. I am an implant from California to Utah caregiving for my mother. My go-to comfort food is wonderful, fresh, tasty, Chinese food! I had another restaurant in mind that I was going to for years. But Im staying at the local Residence Inn, and they highly recommended the Little Kitchen Asian Cafe. I wanted a variety and more than enough to eat the second day reheating in a toaster oven. My order consist of appetizer fried shrimp, orange zest chicken, combination meat egg foo young, combination fried rice, and the best vegetable was the sauteed green beans and asparagus, honey walnut shrimp. Oh my goodness! The portions were great but the food and the taste was by far superb! first time trying the food on my vacation break and before I head back to Utah I will be revisiting the restaurant once again for takeout. I highly recommend this place if you like good Asian cuisine. Everything was so authentic and fresh ingredients. When Im in Dana Point again which I try to come back home at least once a year. This will be my go-to place.
RAYA

If you feel like a great meal, Raya is the place. Raya features an unique menu concept that is one of a kind to the area. Coastal Pan Latin with a twist of Asian. Not to mention one of the best ocean view restaurants in south county.
Peking Dragon Restaurant
34171 Pacific Coast Hwy, Dana Point, CA 92629, United States
OCTOBER 15, 2015 AT IPM: I know that in the past I have spoken ill of the Peking Dragon, a restaurant which on and off I have frequented since their inception. Through the years there were times when the food lacked certain qualities that before we had gotten used to, other times it has been right on the money, but now after our visit yesterday around 1 PM we chose from their lunch menu items, which keeps increasing in price and somewhat decreasing in size, I finally realized that the Peking Dragon is nothing to scoff at. It finally dawned on me that this place, with its better moments and their not so good, is the one place that one keeps coming back to, specially for those lucky enough to live in that beautiful area which is Dana Point. Plate ordered:Mandarin Prawn, around $13.25 a plate. The beauty about the Peking Dragon is that one can request light sauce, less or more spice, and they will make it no questions asked. The Prawns dish has shrunk a little bit, and come to think about it, so had the dish in which it was served, but it arrived to the table hot and crispy, with a side order of fried rice (not spectacular for it is the most basic rendition during lunch), and it was very tasty. There were 4 of us, and two had this dish. Eaten with no problems, really enjoyable, all imaginings of diets and conservative options, were put on hold. The lunch comes with soup (egg flour, not too shabby, sometimes a little more watery, but so easy to eat), and the choice of two pieces of fried chicken or egg rolls. I have to say that Peking Dragon has the technique of the fried chicken down to a science, making this selection almost addicting, never seem to be enough. Shane, one of the owners, has the audacity to charge for this same fried chicken on the appetizer menu $9.25 for 4 chicken wings! Yes, and I buy it almost every time for I have been hooked from way back. Is it the high temperature in which these wonderful morsels are seared, the simple but enticing coating applied? Go ask the Chef, but I warn anyone, entering their kitchen and getting answers is nearly impossible. Believe me, I tried. 5 Stars.Peking Dragon Beef, $11.25 or so. Two of these were ordered by the lovely ladies in the group. Soft and tender slices of meat with green onions and special sauce. Perhaps not the best lunch selection, the shrimp with vegetable I would have ordered before that one, but each one is entitled to what their little hearts desire, and they seemed to enjoy the selection, although one of the ladies gave me like half her dish, something she has been accused before of doing, which secretly I love! She also gave me one of her two pieces of chicken without having to ask. These were ordered with steamed rice and the same egg flower soup. 4 Stars.Service very expedient and the waiter, Tony, I have known for several years, and frankly I like the heck out of him. He doesnt say much, but listens well and is prompt with refreshing water and more tea, as requested. Now the Peking Dragon waits for the patrons to request water in honor to the conservation efforts the beautiful State of California is going through because of the drought. Had to throw that in.Total bill: around $53 plus gratuity, which Tony from I do not know what part of China he is, was awarded happily and little bit more that what is correct these days.Yes, must hand it to them. Lunch at Peking Dragon is a blast, and the numbers of patrons prove this is the place to go when that particular craving demands it. Been there for 30 years? Far out! 5 Stars.
