The Thai Restaurant
44759 Sierra Hwy, Lancaster, CA 93534, United States
My mum and I were in Lancaster last Friday to visit the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve and needed a decent place to eat lunch afterwards. I searched on Yelp and found this place had a high rating and positive reviews so we decided to try it out. Located on the corner of Sierra Hwy and Milling St, across from the Metrolink Station, The Thai Restaurant was easy to find. They have a small parking lot behind the restaurant which fortunately had two spots open when we pulled in. If the lot is full, street parking should be easy to find. The restaurant seems to have joined two storefronts together; its a bit small and was surprisingly busy when we came in.We were seated pretty quickly by a lady when we entered, but then we had to wait over 15 minutes for someone to come over and take our order (and even offer to give us water). The man took our order and he was really nice and explained that they were really backed up since it is just the two of them and the lady was out for a while on a delivery. If I had to guess I would say they were the co-owners and might be mother/son? Im not sure though... he took our order and brought us our waters pretty quickly. It was another long wait to get our food, but now that we knew why everything was taking so long, I didnt mind. The table next to us got a bit impatient waiting for the check to come--they seemed to have come on a lunch break from work, so I could understand their needing to go back to work ASAP. One of the men in the group mentioned that hes been here a few times before and theyve never been this slow, so hopefully that means usually the restaurant is on top of things. My mum and I ordered the following:(Mum) PAD THAI: Rice noodles prepared with shrimp, chicken, baked tofu, bean sprout and egg.-- Very classic Thai noodle dish. This was my mums first time having Thai so I suggested that she get this. She got it with peanuts on the side so I could have some before she mixed the peanuts in. She thought it was too much on the sweet side, but I thought it was fine (but that could be because I only had a little bit, whereas she had to eat the entire dish).(Esther) CHICKEN CURRY: Chicken prepared with coconut milk, potato in curry sauce.-- Im used to Thai restaurants calling this yellow curry but this place doesnt do that (even though they have red and green curry). Im thinking it might be because they dont want to give you the option of beef? The red and green curries have a beef and a chicken option, but this one obviously only has the chicken option. Since we were there at lunchtime I got the lunch order of it, which is a bit cheaper and also comes with a small salad. The salad was nice and refreshing, and I liked the curry. I had already started eating it when I realised my bowl had only chicken and there was no potato. While I waited for the guy to come back into view so I could flag him down, I kept on eating... Finally I was able to get his attention and he whisked away my dish to add the potato. Cue another wait, and then finally I had my dish back with potato on the top. I think he also added a bit more chicken, which is nice.Overall this is a solid option for lunch in this area, especially if you are in the mood for Thai food. The seats are a bit uncomfortable, the decor is interesting (paintings done by a family member), and the service can be slow (if it really is just the two of them, I dont think they should offer delivery), but the food is pretty good and the prices arent bad. Our meal came out to a little under $17 before tip. 3.5 stars.

Ive been going here for years now (since 2016).Initially, I only went for the typical Chinese-American takeout (pork fried rice, chicken lo mein). While I still think they do these dishes better than any other place in the AV, it wasnt until a couple years ago that some native Chinese acquaintances of mine encouraged me to try something from the Secret Menu. Im very open minded when it comes to trying new foods, so I said sure.Boy... had I been missing out this whole time. The Secret Menu section has quite a few options for authentic Sichuan dishes. In my humble opinion, these blow the typical Chinese-American takeout dishes out of the water. You really owe it to yourself to try them.My personal favorite that I keep coming back for is the Boiling Fish in Hot Sauce (or Shui Zhu Yu). A savory, spicy poached white fish soup that is insanely delicious. If you try it and love the spiciness and the tingly feeling of the Sichuan peppercorns, try asking for extra mala. A bowl of this with some white rice is a real treat. All the Secret Menu items Ive tried thus far are good:- The Boiling Fish in Hot Sauce Hunan-style is also tasty (tofu instead of napa cabbage, and the flavor/spiciness profile is a bit different than the standard version)- Shredded pork with green pepper. Stir fried pork with green bell pepper strips in a delicious, savory sauce. Amazing with rice.- Spicy chicken in Sichuan style. Its spicy, crispy fried pieces of chicken; you really cant go wrong.- Boiling Beef in Hot Sauce (Shui Zhu Niu). Same preparation as the Boiling FIsh. While I personally prefer the fish version, this is also incredibly delicious.- Mapo Tofu. Spicy silken tofu with bits of ground pork. So good, cannot recommend enough.- Vinegar shredded potato. For the western palette, imagine hashbrowns that are only lightly cooked, and have an amazing, mild sauce with a bit of vinegar-y tang. Honestly, these wound up being slightly addictive.- Hand tear cabbage. Napa cabbage pieces stir fried with Sichuan chilis. If you love napa cabbage, youll love this. A really nice, simple dish.Do yourself a favor and try the Secret Menu! I still need to try more of it.Oh, and their slushes are great, too. Personally loved mango, and lychee.

Customers understand that holiday hours are different but there was an incident with this restaurant that had a family dinning in the restaurant already inside and my familywent to open the lobby door but noticed a sign that said lobby was closed so we thought nothing of it and decided to go through the drive thru. Then we saw another family that thought it was open and saw the sign. Then an employee went up to the door, us thinking she will let us know it was closed or let us in but instead she ripped the sign from the door and Skipped back to the counter. As if she was making fun of us. Skipping back to the counter. We did not feel good about that at all. I told them to turn off their lobby's OPEN sign from the outside. We got our food from the drive through. I am writing this review in real time and our drive thru server was Joy M, I am unsure if it was Joy but the employee ripping the sign and skipping was very rude, it might of been Joy but if it wasn't they had the same shift as them. Please encourage your employees to be more respectful of the customers and more verbal. We saw the sign and understood it but why did she rip it ? It was very confusing and skipping back ? Why was that necessary? I appreciate your employees working on holidays and appreciate the time to whoever reads this review.Thank you

I do not like eating here but i suggested chinese food and was brought here, food is way over priced for what they serve,my plate was pretty much served halfways everything was dry, then i had my 1 year old daughter with me and the eating experience was horrible because there was only 2 high chairs in the whole restaurant which the place is a good amount of space to have more than 2,both chairs were occupied so i had to hold my daughter making eating uncomfortable.I went to the the restroom to change my daughter and there was no accomodations for me to change her diaper, the bathroom was dirty and messy and the floor was filthy..Overall bad experience reason why i do not eat here on my own will,i would rather spend my money in a buffet because we paid $23.00 for 2 plates with halfways filled plates with 2 items and 2 drinks, buffet wouldve cost around the same amount!

LOVE RAMEN

Im so used to having tons of ramen shops to choose from in Los Angeles / SGV area, but here it is very limited to a couple of shops. If you compare the ones down there to the ones up here, this shop would be decent; however, up here in the AV this place is pretty much one of best ramen shops in town. This ramen shop has really cute interior designs, and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for indoor seating with AC.We were immediately greeted and provided the menu. You could see that the menu prices have increased due to inflation because ramen were $1-2 cheaper a few months ago.We got a couple of appetizers-- the takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and the chicken kaarage. The okonomiyaki is a hard pass for me; it didnt taste right and was especially doughy. The takoyaki and chicken kaarage werent too bad though. They were both crispy, and have the flavoring just about right.I got the tan tan ramen and the noodle texture was pretty solid. The broth and portions were good sizes. The only thing to note for folks is that tan tan ramen tends to be more saltier, so I do not recommend for folks who likes clearly broth. My sister tried a bit of it and she didnt like how heavy the broth was.Overall, this place is pretty decent for your ramen craving. I would definitely come again to try other menu items.

Completely planned to leave a good review but i might as well be honest. Ordered delivery and the order was incomplete, I complained and wasnt partially refunded for 9 days. Because the partial refund took so long, I was told that I could come back and get either a free bowl of my choice or $10 off of my next order. Today, I went to get my free bowl only for the cashier to tell me that I could only get a chicken or veggie bowl, which would have been fine had that already been specified, but because I was told something else and then pretty much dismissed, I was not happy. This sequence of events has definitely left a bitter impression and I normally love my food here.

Ok, so USUALLY--- I order my favorite dish which is the Eggplant Tofu. Alert!!! Stop the boat! They no longer have this product anymore and its very sad because that was THEE reason why I went to Panda Express in the 1st place! Its also very troubling because they have almost absolutely NO vegetarian/vegan options now. Unless you count the fried rice (which I believe has a chicken-base). And the half-done veggie eggrolls...I ended up ordering some type of chicken dish instead which tasted kinda not what I was expecting, however, still edible. The veggie egg roll... TOTALLY different story! Tasted like it wasnt completely cooked and the wrapping around it on the inside was slightly mushy like it wasnt done either. Tried my best to eat them but only was able to take 2 bites and that was enough for me! I had to toss them into the trash. I hate complaining so I never brought it back to the store. Overall, I wont be visting Panda Express again. Unless ofcourse... They bring back the Eggplant Tofu.

This place under serve food items and they are quick to say for an extra $1.00 you can have more. There are no entrees ready, and they try to get you to select from entrees that are old and should have been removed from the selection. The cook on this night was to busy people watching and not cooking. When people or waiting for food to be ready. There was a floor manager who seemed confused about how the food should flow as the customers order. The staff on the line, and cashier had to speed things up.Just Wow!A lot of Micro aggression at this location from Hispanic staff, and while you are still standing there they will offer the other customer something extra. The pandemic is over, and people are out here patronizing these business, and spending their hard earned money, and being asked to accept any kind of service like we are still in the pandemic phase. Owners speak with your staff or monitor your store before you start losing business.

I go to this Panda every now and then because it's a bit far from my usual destinations and with the price increases it's a bit expensive for consistent visits. Needless to say this location has clean bathrooms, windows, food protectors, pots, tables, floors and practically anything else you can see from the lobby, the lids and straw station is also clean and well kept, and during the nights (9:30ish) it's rather mild in traffic. The food is fresh and the tempature of the room is always hovering around a 72 feel in the lobby. There are only two TV's which are on the same side of the building, but it's really the only lone space available for them. I love the little fortune cookie bags they have and appreciate how well presented they are. The service is wonderful and in my opinion some of nicest people I've had a chance to talk to in the food industry. They are genuine and it takes a happy work place to keep people from having to put on a face for work. Now for two flaws; The door times say 10:00 for Friday. The online time on Google says 10:30. This could be painfully troublesome to everyone for no real reason. The only thing I wish Panda had was slight lower prices and a rewards program that would calculate your donations, so I can keep track of it for taxes.
