Mandarin Garden Chinese Restaurant
2502 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
This was our second visit here. We enjoyed the food when we visited Tahoe last year, and it was just as good this year.We were greeted by the same energetic and friendly waitress that helped us last time. The atmosphere is clean and inviting, cozy tables. We were super hungry after a day at the lake, so we ordered the dinner for two.First to arrive was the most delicious Won Ton soup! It was hot and tasty and packed full of wontons, shrimp, mushrooms, pork, and veg. Practically a meal in itself. The usual fried won tons, egg roll, fried shrimp were all good. The paper wrapped chicken tasted amazing. We really tried to pace ourselves so we would have room for our entrees!I had the Mu Shi pork, which I loved. Always my favorite at Chinese places, and this didnt disappoint. My husband got the Scallops in Oyster sauce. Presented on a bed of broccoli with carrots and snow peas and bell peppers. It tasted fine, but afterwards he thinks maybe he should have ordered the Szechuan or Kung Pao Scallops for a spicier flavor. As it turned out, there was so much food we took so much with us, we had enough for dinner the next night as well (gotta love hotel rooms with in-room fridge and microwave!), so great value for what we paid.We will definitely make it a point to eat here again next time we are in Tahoe!

My Thai Cuisine
2108 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
Foods are very good there. The pineapple shrimp fried rice and mango sticky rice are my favorite. The guy at the front desk is very nice and polite. One bad thing (probably not), it was a bit noisy cuz many families choose to eat there. All in all its one of the best asian restaurants I have had at Lake Tahoe.

The Naked Fish
3940 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
This is our second visit. The naked fish has good food and fantastic staff. Our server Ryan was great fun and our beautiful host was also very lovely. The whole vibe of the restaurant was upbeat and fun.The headchef though has brilliant knife but sadly has poor knowledge of the cuisine he represents. So it's tasty food if you don't care about authenticity but if you're familiar with Japanese cuisine, you might want to go in with the understanding that the headchef is a regular chef making sushi and not a sushi chef.We ordered a sashimi platter and for chef's choice, he chose Poke which is not sashimi. When we pointed that out plus the fact that the chili oil from the poke has spread to about half the plate (affecting about 3 other items making it inedible to my 4 year old who can't take spicy food.He sent back a non-spicy poke with one more serving of one of the affected items. We reiterated that poke is not sashimi but the chef insists that it's chef's choice. And when we spoke to him, he said:“Sashimi is taw fish. You can cut it into cubes, squares, triangles.” “And if you want to get really nerdy, poke can be a sub category of sashimi.” And then he told us to just leave a review, as he didnt want to talk to us.We had a good laugh. This was so blatantly wrong it's pretty funny. I wish I could have gotten a video. You cant make this up.Hes lucky to be in an area with little Japanese influence that people probably see him as the authority but that is also sad cause he's misrepresenting the culture he's representing. In case anyone is interested, sashimi is unseasoned thinly sliced raw fish. A quick google search will give you the same definition.Anyways, back to the food. The sashimi that was untouched by the poke sauce was excellent. The chef had good knife skills. The sashimi especially the salmon belly was excellent. The presentation of a mound of poke overflowing with chili oil next to some beautifully sliced sashimi is probably something that would not fly in an authentic Japanese restaurant. It is however probably a good value for someone who wants more fish.Unable to talk sense into him, we tried to eat the poke. When my 4 year old took the first bite, he freaked out and kept trying to pull something out of his teeth and kept saying I can't, I can't get it out and was about t cry. When we finally got out it, it was a piece of scale. We didn't eat the rest of it. It broke my heart that i was the one who put it in his mouth. In my defense, it was so covered in sauce, i could not see.I unfortunately did not take a picture of the sashimi platter before we ate it. But from my picture, you can see how the chili oil had seeped out. The yellow plate is the non spicy poke. Again, you can see how the sauce was overrunning and would touch the fish next to it. This in my opinion is a waste of the beautiful sashimi. And also attached is he picture of the scale i pulled out of my son's teeth.

Off The Hook Sushi
2660 Lake Tahoe Blvd #14, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
Off the Hook has been a favorite of my wife and her family for years, but this was my first visit. I must say, I was impressed! The venue itself is on the smaller side with the option to sit indoors or outdoors. We sat outside. The patio sits adjacent to the main road, so there isnt much of a view, but it was still nice and very much had the Tahoe feel. The inside was nicely decorated and had both normal and dar height tables. Dimly lit and medium noise with all of the chatter. The menu was a nice size with various offerings and a happy hour. Standard rolls, bowls, and apps sat aside more modern offerings and gluten free choices, ingredients like macadamia nuts, basil, cilantro, and fresh grated wasabi added a twist. Something for everyone. We ordered the Dragon balls(spicy, fried, ground shrimp, tuna and crab dumplings) to start and several rolls from the happy hour menu as well as a cold sake. The sake was great and refreshing and when I asked the waitress for more info, she was happy to tell me about the style and manufacturer. The food came out in a timely fashion and we were in love. Everything tasted great and was very fresh. I would travel all the way back just for another piece of the Yeti roll. You must try it. The dragon balls should be served everywhere. Each roll was flavorful and had a different identity from the last. Once all was said and done, we were stuffed and it was easy on the wallet. I highly recommend it.

Panda Express
3640a Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
Very small portions. usually the steak is not fully cooked. prices are also continuously going up. portions are ridiculously small. asking for a grilled chicken and getting one small piece of chicken in my plate etc. if i want panda now i only get it from Carson City. PE in South Lake Tahoe is a joke. Plate with steak + soda comes to almost $15. not worth it, especially in South Lake Tahoe. every time i go half of the food trays are empty and its not even busy. when i went again mid May their NEW wok fried shrimp tray stayed empty for more than 30mins. meanwhile in Carson City NV they have big signs advertising the wok fried shrimp and food trays are always full. might be a better choice to visit a real restaurant where you can get real food for almost the same price. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE.revisited this Panda location end of July 2022 and the story is the same. small portions, out of half of the food items. half of their trays are empty. Carson City location still rocks. South Lake Tahoe franchise restaurants are a continuous JOKE

The Getaway Cafe
3140 US-50, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
Great Breakfast in the Tahoe area. Service is fantastic, the food is the best I had in the Tahoe area. Portions are larger than normal.Arrival approximately 9am on a Sunday. This is coronavirus time so masks were required. Everyone was following the rules including staff. Plenty of people sitting in the outdoor seating area spaced a good distance apart.Upon arrival we were greeted outdoors by a bubbly employee at a podium who asked for party size and name. After giving us an estimated wait time we were seated indoors. The service here is fantastic all the waitresses were happy, friendly. I was not a local but the moment I stepped inside I felt welcomed. We were informed of the specials and more importantly mimosas and ordered a couple.Mimosas were great, coffee was even better. The only knock I could give was the waitresses did not introduce themselves by name so I could give them props here, but either way all of the ladies on the wait staff were attentive and checked on each table whenever they could.Food was as great as the service. Chilaquiles were phenomenal the red sauce was a little hot but flavorful, the eggs went perfectly with the tortillas, the beans full of flavor and the sour cream and avocado helped cool down the spice.Eggs benedict the hollandaise was delicious eggs cooked perfectly was a solid dish. Will definitely be coming back whenever im in the South Tahoe area. That Coconut French Toast was calling my name.

Flaky, buttery, and simply divine, it's no wonder it's a star on their menu. The care and craftsmanship that went into creating this simple delight were evident with each scrumptious bite. For a healthier option, I opted for the Oatmeal and Granola. The oats were cooked to perfection and combined with crunchy granola, creating a comforting and nourishing morning treat. The balance between textures and the sweetness from the granola made it a hearty choice. The Breakfast Quesadillas with Tofu were a revelation for anyone seeking a vegan delight. The tofu provided a satisfyingly hearty protein, perfectly complemented by the array of vegetables and spices. Fluffy eggs enveloped a medley of fillings, and the accompanying hash browns were crisp and golden – a quintessential breakfast comfort dish.To complete my meal, I indulged in a Mocha that was nothing short of divine. Base Camp Pizza Co.
1001 Heavenly Village Way #25a, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
To start, the pizza is absolutely amazing! Some of the best pizza anywhere. But I can only give it 3 (and a half) stars because there was a massively disappointing issue with the service. The first night we went there at 6 PM, and there was a 2 hour wait. We had small children and it was very cold outside. We were told that if we came back the next night by 5 PM there would be almost no wait. So, the following night, we arrived at 5 PM. We were told that there was a 1:15 wait. Slightly disappointed, but still better than the previous night. So we decided to wait it out. We walked around, grabbed a hot cocoa somewhere, and went back after an hour and 15 minutes. When we checked our name, they told us we still had another hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half longer! I checked with the rest of my group to be sure there was no confusion on my part, and there wasnt. This was absolutely unacceptable! It was 20° outside and we had small children. There was a very loud band playing literally directly behind the host stand, and my voice was hoarse, which made it extremely difficult to communicate, so I had to sort of yell. About a minute later, a manager walked up, and told me to stop yelling at her employees. How else was I supposed to communicate? Anyhow, several minutes later they seated us. From that point forward it was wonderful - great food and good service. But be careful making plans to go here if youre on a schedule, or have small kids. And to the staff, please reconsider having that band playing directly behind the host stand.

Ygen Cuisine
1132 Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, United States
I understand that they are understaffed. for example: saw three servers that were bussing, hosting, and their expected job as a server.i think the main problem with this restaurant is the layout. i have never seen a kitchen so far away from the sushi corner. why are they separated? i saw the chefs using walki-talkis to communicate with each other. if they were in the same spot, they wouldnt need a communication device. because of this, there is a lack of tables and an extremely long wait line.we waited for 1.5 hours and waited an extra ten minutes to be seated, only to be seated at the bar for three people. the waiter who seated us didnt even give us the menu, and we waited an extra extra ten minutes to get attention.food wise, i would say slightly below average. the roll was good, the tempura was good, and the nigiri was good. the reason why i bring it down though is because1. there was no udon in a JAPANESE themed restaurant2. the miso soup had mushrooms. i have been to a lot of Japanese restaurants and never have they had mushrooms in their miso soup.3. the sauces that came with the tempura plate was extremely weird. the tempura sauce was thick for some reason and it came with sweet and sour sauce. NEVER EVER had that happen before.im sure that other people had their reasons for giving this place a five star, but i cannot agree. i am truly appalled at the lack of authenticity or even the ATTEMPT to resemble the culture. would not dine again.
