Redwood Bistro
711 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Ive passed by this place many many times driving along El Camino but since parking didnt seem easy I never went, plus our family always preferred eating in downtown Redwood City but WHAT a mistake weve been making!!! If you want authentic Sichuan and northern Chinese fare, this is THE BEST place in Redwood City. My husband was skeptical at first when I told him I wanted to try this place tonight, he thought we were going to have another night of American Chinese food (nothing wrong with that), but he literally couldnt stop raving about how amazing everything tasted once we dug our chopsticks in. All the spicey dishes we ordered were the perfect level of numbing tingly goodness married with just the right amount of heat. The ma po tofu was divine! The moment I had the first bite I immediately thought to myself (YES, this is how its supposed to taste), the redwood bistro specialty noodles were also uniquely flavourful packed with spices and various groceries. Is this as good as some of the restaurants Ive been to in Sichuan? Probably not. But this is the best place Ive had in the Penninsula. We used to trek out to Oakland for our monthly kick of Sichuan food but all this time we only had to drive 10 minutes to this place. Im So so glad we finally came here tonight. We are definitely becoming weekly regulars.I wish I had photos to upload but eating everything happened so fast. I also wish I had some baijiu to go with it

Sushi Shin

This is the first time after the dinner. Both me and my guest are totally loss of word.We had ordered their takeout back when dine in wasnt allowed. It was decent so we figured we give dine in a try.My conclusion is that Michelin rater should stop rating Sushi in Bay Area. As this is second restaurant that really has no business being given a star.I will start with good first as there arent many good point.1. The rice itself has good texture and flavor (on some of the nigiri).2. The Santa Barbara uni was one of the best I have in a while.3. The dessert was good.Issues-1. Rice temperature control was bad. Its inconsistent through out. My buri rice was way too hot. This is a basic skill. Not acceptable.2. The clear soup- if you cant make a good dashi as base. Chances are mushroom soil taste will dominant. This is exactly what happened3. Hokkaido uni quality is what I would have expected from local Japanese fish market donburi. Its about as good as a $14 donburi at Hakodate fish market.4. Katsuo- one of the most bland I have tasted. Fish itself was not flavorful. The smoking was just weak and didnt enhance the fish. The scallion didnt provide the kick.5. shirako- the quality isnt great to begin with. Half grill it wont make it any better.6. Chawanmushi- I feel sorry for that lobster. The lobster itself was great. Flavor and sweet. However, it was slightly burnt and the egg portion was bland. Lack of good dashi base killed the egg part.7. Tuna courses- the quality of tuna isnt good to begin with. But poor preparation made it even worse. Tuna didnt have good tuna flavor. The chu-toro I had wasnt properly prepared hence it was quiet fishy (blood). Even though it was tiny spot- its completely not acceptable.Zuke- the main point of a good Zuke is to taste the tuna itself. But with tuna quality not good to begin with. By giving it such a thick cut compare to the rice. It made it much worse.O-toro- overly cooked. Full mouth of greaseThis was the first time on the drive home- we didnt even want to talk about what happened. If you are looking for authentic sushi that really focuses on balance. This isnt the place. Perhaps it caters to different clientele. As all of the dishes has no balance. I dont need thick fish to prove that this is $$$$ place. I need excellent balance between fish and rice. What I really didnt get- the heavy soy sauce is the same as yoshizumi. With off night from tuna, its really can be enhanced/saved by varying the soy sauce. This was demonstrated by previous sushi chef at Kenzo Napa. Its sad. Perhaps my expectation was too high after the original carry out. May be simply put- this place is focusing on providing value to the novice. While the rice basic and forming skill is there. Everything else was off.
Brochette Dumpling and Grill
917 Main St, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Brochette, and I must say that Jonathan and the entire culinary experience exceeded all expectations. From start to finish, our evening was nothing short of extraordinary. The menu at Brochette offers a diverse range of delectable options, and we decided to indulge in a variety of dishes. First up were the grilled skewers, and I must say, they were a revelation. The meats were perfectly seasoned and charred to perfection, leaving us craving for more with each bite. The skewers were a sensational start to our meal.Next, we ventured into the realm of steaks, and once again, Brochette did not disappoint. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, each bite melting in our mouths like butter. The quality of the meat and the precision in cooking were unparalleled, making it a steak lovers dream come true.To add a touch of diversity to our culinary adventure, we also ordered the dim sum. These delicate, flavorful parcels of goodness were a delightful surprise. The dumplings were masterfully crafted, bursting with flavor, and served with dipping sauces that complemented them perfectly. It was a symphony of tastes that left us enchanted. Now, lets talk about the service. Jonathan, our waiter, was an absolute gem. He went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of perfection. His knowledge of the menu, recommendations, and attention to detail were truly commendable. Its rare to find such dedicated and passionate staff who genuinely care about their guests satisfaction. The ambiance at Brochette was also exceptional, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere added an extra layer of charm to our dining experience. In conclusion, if youre looking for a dining experience that transcends the ordinary, Brochette and Jonathan are the perfect choices. Every aspect, from the tantalizing food options to the impeccable service, is nothing short of excellent. I cant wait to return to Brochette for another unforgettable culinary journey. Its a place where gastronomic dreams come true, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience
Green Leaf Bistro
604 Fifth Ave A, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Green Leaf Bistros food is amazing. Super flavorful, fresh, and no MSG! For someone who has food allergies, sensitivities, or is vegan, this is a dream come true as they have options for everything, and clearly label what is what. (Mine are milk, egg, and wheat) Even their chicken karaage is gluten free...I can have fried chicken again! :D I also have carb dietary restrictions, finally, a place to easily eat keto and paleo! They have large portions, and everything is customizable which I love. The online ordering was super easy. You choose your base (rice, greens etc,) protein, toppings (they have 11 total for the works), sides, and super yummy sauces.I ended up ordering half basil beef, half braised pork belly, roasted veggies, on a bed of spinach and arugula, with pickled carrots, mint, basil, roasted corn, cucumber, peanuts and shallots, and added avocado, sautéed mushrooms and Kimchee with their walnut vinaigrette sauce. What an explosion of flavor...Sooo good!I thought it was too huge but ended up eating practically the whole thing. I cant wait to try another combo, the options are endless!Apparently their tofu is made fresh from a San Jose mom and pops so they support other local businesses. Great philosophy, and so much heart. They also do catering which is a nice option for large families and reduces the need for the plastic trays, and lets people choose what they want as they go.My mouth is watering for the next delicious experience. I think Ill try their mamas sticky rice, when I asked about it, is like Chinese no mai fan. Yum!!! Asian fusion comfort food at its best :) cant wait to go back!
AhiSushi Hibachi
1784 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
So, I feel I should start my review by saying that my husband and I are addicted to sushi. We were engaged in a sushi restaurant, and have tried sushi on both coasts and in places where the only word on the menu in English was sushi. Weve tried em all, had glorious ups and defeating downs in our never-ending quest for bay area sushi supremacy. We moved into a home in Redwood City about three years ago and our quest for greatness continued. About three months ago a flat tire and series of what we now consider to be pre-destined events led us to walk through the doors of this fine establishment, we came, we dined and we havent considered another sushi joint since.Amazing fish, amazing sushi chef, and amazing service in a casual and welcoming environment. Have I said AMAZING enough yet? Trust me loyal yelper, Im repeating myself because my lexicon doesnt contain a word to accurately describe how awesome the food is here. Not convinced yet? Keep reading...The environment here is casual and relaxed. This is a great place to bring your significant other for a chill night out, or a few friends or family members for some great food and a good time. The service is attentive, prompt, and responsive to special dietary needs and requests. My sake vase is never empty, and I feel like part of the Ahi Sushi family every single time.To say that the chef is amazing (I totally just said it again) would be an understatement. Kevin has talent, not only when it comes to creating interesting and new flavor combinations, but also has some of the freshest and most flavorful fish I have ever had the privilege of gobbling up. From the sashimi to the nigiri and even the most complicated deep fried rolls, whatever your taste in sushi, Kevins attention to detail and top notch ingredients will blow your mind.Seriously, if youre a hardcore sushi fan, or a beginner get here now, and experience this place for yourself. Do it...now!
I Dumpling
2660 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Authentic chinese food, although the waiting was long and the service will be considered rude for some Western folks. Keep in mind thats how a typical local Chinese restaurant would serve you of youre in China and just be cool with their attitude. Some food options might be bizarre for non-Asian Americans that I‘d recommend to try include the pig ears, the beef tendon noodle soup, amd the five flavor spicy beef. Enjoy your visit :)
Crouching Tiger Restaurant & Bar
2640 &, 2644 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
There are a zillion Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area. This one might be our favorite based on a single dish: Xingjiang lamb (listed as cumin lamb in other restaurants). Somehow its just better here.We do like many of their other dishes as well, including their dry cooked string beans and cold noodles. But the lamb is the star. They have recently expanded so there are quite a few tables. Service is reasonably good in our experience though we have not been there when they are very busy. Parking in the area is all metered during the day.
US Chinese Food
2490 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Really good cheap Chinese food. This is your typical American chinese food restaurant. The decor is nothing special. But come here for the big portions, and inexpensive food. A lunch plate with rice or noodles and 2 entrees is about $7 as of 2018. Food is fresh and the variety is good. Parking lot in back.
Chef Chens
820 Veterans Blvd, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Quick and satisfying! I went for lunch here today. Some lunch specials are only $5. Since the prices were so reasonable, I decided to splurge and get the Combination Seafood Lunch Plate. $6.75 plus tax ($7.40 total) for shrimp, fish, scallops, etc. It was a generous serving of food which also comes with your choice of rice, appetizer, and soup (if you eat in the restaurant). Quality of the food was quite good, and not greasy at all. I think what was amazing was how quickly the food is prepared. You order, pay and within 3-5 minutes its ready. While I was eating, take out orders and other patrons had their food also in a few minutes. Seriously, even if you had a takeout order, theres no need to call ahead. Summary: If you need a quick lunch place that is very reasonably priced with good quality, come to Chef Chens. Ill definitely be back to try some of the other menu items. And yes, they take credit card too.
