I never take the time to write reviews, but this was so bad and disappointing I had to warn others. We've been coming here for years every time we visit family in LA, about twice a year. I didn't think to read reviews before coming but I should have because apparently under new ownership they don't even try to serve decent food!First, bathrooms filthy. Second the sushi was inconsistent, tiny, and so sloppily made I thought maybe the sushi chef was out and they had a waiter making the rolls. My daughter always gets the 911 roll. This time it came as small as my husbands avocado rolls with almost no avocado on top, but same price as ever. My spicy tuna avocado roll had almost inedible spicy tuna inside, and apparently they couldn't fig Red out how to make it bc the waiter came back and asked if I just wanted the avocado on top (I mean, spicy tuna avocado roll is available in every sushi place and even grocery store so I kind of thought they'd know how to put the avocado in there) then when it arrived, it had seriously a SLIVER of avocado on top of sloppily made rolls, not even enough to taste, and each sliver at sort of odd angles not even attempted to make look nice. My husbands avocado rolls had almost no avocado- also slivers- the rice was incredibly salty and they didn't bother to roll it all the way up so the prices were falling apart.It was seriously like they made no effort whatsoever, but charged the same prices. Oh, and the lava cake dessert- which we get every time- now had a spoonful of ice cream on top instead of a scoop.We just spent the whole time feeling ripped off and annoyed and will have to find a new “favorite” sushi place for our visits here.

This is a top-notch sushi restaurant - sushi is incredibly fresh and the flavors are perfectly balanced. We had the Avalanche roll and it was sublime. The menu is extensive with a wide variety of sushi rolls, sashimi and other Japanese delicacies. The service is wonderful with attentive and friendly staff who are ready to answer any questions you have or help you make the perfect selection! If you are a fan of sushi - you must check out this incredible restaurant!
Tavern Tomoko & Ladyface Brewery

There is much confusion about this business - - it has a significant part of the menu insured from Asian cuisine and the rest seems more conventional and this restaurant-brewery seems ambivalent whether it truly wants to keep its Ladyface name or if it wants a more Japanese moniker. Our food tasted really good, portions were a little bit less than comparable. Note to chef: super-tall sandwiches may look spectator when they 1st arrive at the table, but are impractical to dismantle/consume. The Beer/ale roster is Fantastic and it is impressive that this business brews its own. We had excellent service today and we are grateful that Ladyface has a comfortable, shaded patio for outdoor dining.

Let me start with the fact that normally I would give this place a 5 star across the board. We live super close to this restaurant and have been coming here regularly for lunch and dinner since they opened their doors. The food has been incredible! The best vegan sushi I've ever had, that we've ever had. But tonight we are really disappointed. We ordered all our favorites and nothing seemed right. We love their mushroom miso soup and always comment on how delicious it is especially because it's not over salty. Tonight salty as heck. The cucumber salad was not at all fresh and super over soaked in the sauce and soggy. Normally delish. We absolutely love their portobello tempura and get so excited every time we come here to get it. It was over cooked, dry and just inedible. They have a chef special called poke dip that we've loved since it was put on specials. We normally order one and share but because it's so good and never enough we ordered 2 tonight and again disappointed. Not fresh, especially the avocado and over sauced. Same story with the dynamite sushi. Over sauced and every piece fell apart. We brought up our concerns to the wait staff but they didn't seem interested or concerned. They just kept saying there would take things off the bill. I tried to explain to them that we love love love this place and have came back so many times and that it wasn't really about the money or taking it off the bill as much as we wanted this new vegan restaurant to stay amazing and in business as we've watched other local vegan restaurants rise and fall. I also explain to them that we had initially planned on bringing another couple with us who is trying to go vegan right now and how we are so grateful they couldn't make it because it would not of been the experience we've been bragging about to them. The2 staff members who were waiting on us tonight wouldn't even make eye contact worry us when bringing up our concerns. Typically the staff is very sweet even though they are kind of slow. Seems to me they're understaffed but usually always very nice. Tonight they just seemed disengaged and uncaring. Not one “I'm sorry about the food or experience” at all. So just in case the owners or managers review these reviews I wanted to say we 99% of the time absolutely love this restaurant! Staff and food are really really great! I am writing this review on the drive home from the restaurant which is a Friday night January 21, 2022. Dinner time. The two waiters working, you guys should know who they are and maybe you could talk to them and the chefs about handling the customer service a little bit better and the food. Every table was taken so I know that they were busy but we've been there on busy days before and everything was fabulous. And maybe it was a new chef but if so they shouldn't have been scheduled until they fully have the recipes down and especially not on a busy Friday night. Hope you guys can continue being the wonderful place that we love to go enjoy our vegan sushi and that this experience was just a one time fail. We do suggest everybody tries it like we said 99% of the time is amazing. ????Just wanted to add an update. So after the review I wrote the owner reached out to me and was nothing but kind and considerate! I have gone back with my husband and friends many times since that experience I wrote about and everything has been 100% top-notch! The food is amazing the staff is talented and kind and we love eating at Ma-Kin sushi!! This place is a delicious MUST try ????❤️Update October 2023 -Ma-kin Sushi, the chef's, the staff and the owner are all AMAZING!! The above post was about one night and one night only!! We've been Coming back religiously and every time is just really great!! The food is so mind blowing amazing for vegans and non vegans alike.
