Yoshi Japanese Restaurant

Best Japanese restaurant in Elk Grove. Service is slower but it is worth it. The hostess has an amazing memory and is always a joy to see. The food is top notch. I always get their chicken katsu curry but their other dishes are great too

Mikuni Elk Grove
8525 Bond Rd, Elk Grove, CA 95624, United States
A Sacramento area legend in sushi. Go for the ambiance, the excellently crafted rolls and the highest quality fish available around. Plenty of TVs in the bar area which is a great place to watch a game or grab a good brew and a small plate. The rest of the building is outfitted with great tables and booths for both tastes. Things can sometimes be loud in the bar area especially during a big game or if a large group is celebrating but its never been enough of an issue to detract from my experience. The decor inside is fantastic with a faux bamboo grove theme. Another thing worth noting is the typically well curated cocktail menu with a few standard options and some pleasant suprises as well. This is one of the few sushi places I will go to and order chefs choice sampler type menu items and NEVER go home disappointed. Everything from the shellfish to the tuna is all expertly prepared and presented beautifully. The tempura and gyoza not only fit the bill as great appetizers but have the small details to make them above expectations. If youre feeling adventurous try the puff daddy! As far as rolls go, follow your tastes or try the Japanese Mafia roll (a signature dish of Mikuni) Even the ramen, teriyaki and other non-sushi or non-fish dishes are fantastic and not just kids menu stuff. My go to main dish is always the Chefs Choice Sashimi platter and they are happy to modify it to your tastes and keep away from certain fish if you prefer. The staff has always been attentive and polite, answering all my dumb questions about sushi with a smile and offering great solutions for an indecisive mind. If you havent been yet, give it a try and suprise yourself with this great place.

Great sushi! And they take every precaution to make sure their staff and the customers are protected. Between mask requirements (yes, youll be told to leave of you dont have a mask) and tape markings for 6 ft distances as well as limitations of the number of people in the establishment...all best practices. The sushi is amazing and so fresh...the salmon poke is nice and spicy but not tongue burning (great because I like to taste my food). We order the Cali #2, Patriot, Lobster Bake, Hawaiian and Spider rolls. We try a new one each time and never disappointed. You have to try it if youre in the market for a safe sushi place that you can feel good that you wont get sick from the food or others that patron them. Great food, Great people, Great prices!

We came across this nice little restaurant on our way home on Christmas. The hostess was very kind and provided amazing service. I am Japanese (despite my name, I know) and grew up in Japan until I was 16, and this place is the best Japanese restaurant I have experienced since moving to California and I don’t say that lightly. Anytime I am craving Japanese food and don’t want to cook I come here. The menu is very simple yet elegant and the food is as well, reflecting Japanese cuisine nicely. The food is full of flavor without being overwhelming and the flavors are unique to this restaurant but still resemble authentic Japanese cuisine.

We came here to celebrate a birthday, and they definately gave us memorable night! The food was delicious, and the staff was super friendly, prices were good, but we will definately be going back for our waiter Aaron! He was awesome! This is our new favorite japanese restaurant. Thanks again for the great experience Aaron!!
Kobe Steak & Sushi

2nd time for us eating at this restaurant on 17 April 2021 @ 6pm Pacific Time. We waited for 30 minutes before being seated. We ordered immediately: Two alcoholic drinks, a Volcano Sushi Roll and two Filet Mignon (medium well) & Lobster dinner combo plates. There were 3 other people (same group) that were seated with us at the table/grill. They placed their order immediately as well.It took the staff over an hour to bring us all our drinks after we initially sat down. Then we waited another 30 minutes for one sushi roll. After an hour more of waiting, a waitress explained that there were only 3 cooks working that evening and we were offered free baskets of Edemame. After another 45 minutes of waiting, I asked to speak to the manager. Some young male employee who claimed to be the manager told me that they were short-handed on cooks for that evening. He said that there were other tables ahead of us.Finally, 20 minutes later a cook came to our table but noticed that the grill had not been turned on. The cook turned on the grill and left us with no other explanation. The same cook went to a different table and started cooking their food even though our table had been seated before that other table and we had been waiting a really long time. It took another 45 minutes for the grill to get hot and then another 30 minutes for a different cook to arrive to cook our food. The current cook claimed that he had 12 years experience cooking – yet, the food was overcooked, dry and chewy. Also, someone at our table was allergic to seafood and the cook almost forgot and put the shrimp on the grill while the other food was cooking. After waiting another 15 minutes; everyone was finally served their ordered food. Again, our steak and lobster were dry and overcooked. We could not finish eating the food. It felt like chewing through leather and stale bubblegum. When we all got ready to pay and leave, the so called manager apologized and offered to take 15% off our bills to compensate for the wait. Funny thing though, there was a “service charge” on our bills that added up exactly to the 15% amount that was supposed to be deducted from our meals. I questioned the young man who claimed to be the manager but he stated that he “wasn't” the manager and the actual manager was not in the restaurant. He also said that there was a sign on the restaurant door notifying customers of the service charge.I was appalled, irritated and perturbed at this nonsense we had to endure and I was totally upset that we were still charged the full amount of our meals and the offered discount was magically the service charge.I don't like waiting for my food (understaffed restaurant). I don't like incompetence (grill not turned on). I don't like overcooked food (chewy & tough). But I expressly don't like being lied to (not the manager and no discount).Perhaps it was the fact that 4 out of 5 of us at the table were African-American/Black and they expected us to be “dine & dashers” or that we were “too stupid” to add up our bills and notice that we got robbed. All of us complained and even a few other customers was questioning the same things we were questioning.I DO NOT RECOMMEND EATING AT THIS RESTAURANT EVER!Employee hiring & schedules is not the customer's problem. Overcooked food is the fault of the restaurant cooks. And someone “playing” manager and lying about a discount for the total experience inconvenience – is laughable in the sense of insulting our customer and culinary intellect!

It is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the U.S. with reasonable prices. In Seattle, I have to pay at least double to get quality Japanese food like this. Fish is fresh and the flavor is unique however not overpowering the fish. All the rolls are made fresh in front of the customers. The service is very good too. I will stop by every time when I come to Sacramento. If you are looking for a place with big portion mediocre food, this is not the one for you.

Wanted to try a new place for restaurant week in Elk Grove and celebrate an early Chinese New Year. So we ended up at a Japanese restaurant. ? Had their Tempura Mix; Volcano, Elk Grove, and Sakura rolls; 2 bento boxes and chicken teriyaki bowl. Enjoyed the tempura mix as that isnt as thick as in other places and the Elk Grove roll. Prices are up their, but reasonable given the state of the economy. Though we did not, I would recommend calling in for a reservation. We would come here again.
