Kihon
5662 2nd St, Long Beach, CA 90803, United States
My college-age son and I are glad we stopped here during a vacation. This Japanese restaurant is located on Naples Island in Long Beach, so we enjoyed a stroll before and after dinner. We experimented with dishes that were new to us: a Shrimp Tampura Roll and Salmon Nigiri. Delectable! We rounded it out with an appetizer of edamame and a glass of hot sake. We hope to return on our next visit to Long Beach.

Maru Maki

Affordably priced sushi that tastes good. The sushi chefs are actually Latino, not Japanese. So is it going to be as delicious as Octopus or Wakano up the street? Well, no. But the customer is also not going to pay Wakano or Octopus prices. I also like that this restaurant allows customers to phone in orders for pick up. This is especially useful on Friday and Saturday nights when this restaurant has a wait out the door (it is a physically small place). If you are into sports you can sit at the Sushi bar, have sake and enjoy the game.

Silverlake Ramen LBX
4101 McGowen St STE 150, Long Beach, CA 90808, United States
There is a wealth of options for places to eat at LBX. As such, it’s quite the gathering place for long beach locals and the surrounding area, always giving them a plethora of options to choose from for where to eat. It would be easy to get something from inside “the hangar” but doing so would rob you of the dishes offered by “Silverlake Ramen” just across the street. Silverlake is a small restaurant on an unassuming corner in the parking lot that serves Japanese food, with an emphasis on ramen. The keyword is emphasis, as while Silverlake Ramen does have Ramen in its name, their Chicken Karaage rice bowl is the dish that keeps me coming back. The dish is Japanese style fried chicken over rice, topped with a spicy aioli, and teriyaki sauce. With fried chicken common American’s know, the outside batter is crispy, and the meat underneath tends to be on the tougher side, allowing us to really rip into the meat with a satisfying crunch. Silverlake’s Karaage batter manages to have a satisfying crunch that ticks every box you didn’t know you had about batter, while leaving the chicken underneath perfectly tender. The chicken is flavorful enough on its own, but the aioli and teriyaki drizzled on top gives way to a complicated wonderful flavor that makes you wish you had more chicken in front of you. The bed of rice the chicken sits on top of can soak up any extra sauce the chicken may drip off, as well as make any bite of chicken feel that much more filling. There is also soy sauce available at every table, both for rice, but also for any sushi you may order. The service is great, I’ve always been served quickly with my food fresh and hot, and water attended to. The staff play in well to the environment of the establishment. Because of the location and the attitude of the staff, it feels more on the homier side. If the inside is a little hectic they do have patio seating, which is much calmer and gives a great view of the ice cream shop across the street with a line that goes out and around the corner making you feel like you’re missing out on something fantastic. The benefit of being in a location like LBX is that should the restaurant itself not be the kind of environment you want, you are perfectly able to take your food to go and walking to the hangar, which is always sure to have live music and a few different styles of outside seating. It’s quite the environment to enjoy and starkly different from a restaurant interior while only being 200 feet away. The big benefit Silverlake has is consistency. I’m a regular patron and no one visit has been worse than the rest. It’s been just as good as the first time, and I’m confident it will continue to be for me and for others.

Yoshinoya Willow & Atlantic
590 E Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90806, United States
Looking for a quick bite? Yoshinoya is a fast food style Japanese chain serving a plate of rice with with a choice of beef, chicken, fish and vegetables. Indoor dining is still closed but they do have take-out options/no outdoor dining available. The inside of the restaurant was clean with glass dividers to help protect customers and employees.I ordered a simple combination rice plate with both chicken and beef along with steamed vegetables. I noticed that my chicken portion was smaller than the vegetables/beef. I think someone is trying to tell me to eat more vegetables. Make sure to ask for pickled ginger, hot sauce and pepper flakes if you like to spice up the meal.

Jade Restaurant
6380-A E Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA 90803, United States
My friend and I went here to catch up and eat what I hoped to be great food.We walked into the restaurant and I noticed that there were barely any diners there, which I thought was good. We stood there for a few minutes, which I was surprised about. 3 employees came by to tell us that someone would come to assist us soon.A few minutes after we were seated, one employee gave us glasses of water without us asking for water, which I appreciated. My friend and I were able to talk a bit until a man started singing and playing guitar. He was very talented. Our waiter was very nice. He noticed my friend and I were deep in conversation throughout our meal and left us alone after checking on us once after we got our food, which was a plus in my book. He kept walking around the tables so we just had to wait until he got back to our table to get boxes and our check.Onto the food, I ordered orange chicken and white rice. My friend got shrimp fried rice. Luckily my friend enjoyed her food. That mustve been the most flavorless orange chicken Ive eaten. I found it funny that the plate for the chicken was huge and the bowl of rice was so small. I was a bit tempted to not ask for a box for my food but I wanted to see if my roommate would eat it. Otherwise, I plan to throw away my leftovers.I feel extremely disappointed because I wanted to at least try the breakfast foods they offered during another visit. But after this experience, I dont want to be let down again.

Poke & More
2292 E Carson St, Long Beach, CA 90807, United States
A Hawaiian mom and pop shop located in a plaza where the Ralph's and La Fitness are at! located in Carson St, serving very local dishes from the islands while adding a few from the Philippines to showcase both sides of their heritage! What we got:First we had the inari poke- these little bean curd pockets of deep fried tofu, rice, topped with spicy mayo and garnished with roe and scallions is a dynamite of all flavors and is honestly my new favorite thing! We also got tofu poke but with crab meat because we love seafood, but of course for all our vegetarian/vegan friends you can ask to customize your poke to your preference!Next the tuna sisig in a sizzling plate is a homage to Filipino cuisine, and as a Filipino myself I loved this dish so much! They also proudly serve Huli Huli chicken which is Hawaiian chicken barbecue with that pineapple, ginger and soy sauce marinade. Perfectly sweet and refreshing, I think everyone needs to get this!Lastly we got the crispy spam musubi cos it won't be a Hawaiian feast without spam!Service is also fast and everyone is so welcoming and accommodating!

Bamboo Teri House
3391 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807, United States
Very disappointed with service and treatment received . I walked into this restaurant thi afternoon. There were two younger personnel standing behind the counter /cashier. I said hi to both of them the first time, but both refused to speak. Therefore, i said hi a second time. both looked at me and still refused to speak. I'm not sure why this form of rudeness had happened that caused an unwelcome feeling. Prior to date I‘ve witnessed the female attendant on another occasion refusing to speak. No harm on my behalf was ever meant to greet them and was just attempting to be cordial or friendly. The food was decent. In no manner do I appreciate rudeness, bad customer service.
